The Lake View Bungalow Yala is built on a one acre site bordering the Yodha Wewa Tank. It is approx. 30 minutes drive to the Yala National Park entrance. Sri Lanka's reknowned Yala Wild Life National Park attracts thousands of international and local enthusiasts each year. The Park provides unique opportunities for visitors to enjoy watching leopard, bear and elephants in their natural habitat. Other attractions include- crocodile, deer, sambar, wild bore, wild buffalo and peacock and may varieties of birds including migratory birds such as flamingos. Four wheel drive tours take you into the park every morning and afternoon.
This Bungalow is in a village only five minutes off the main road after turning into the Sithulpawwa road. It is also close proximity to the historic town of Kataragama which is 20 minutes away and other religious sites such as Sithulpawwa and Kirinda temples and the four stupas in Tissamaharama are also in the vicinity.
The Bundala Bird Sanctuary is 20 - 30 minutes from the bungalow.
There are two covered areas (porch and garage) for the guests to park their vehicles. More vehicles can be parked in the garden.

The house was lovely, spacious and beautifully maintained. The staff, especially Chandana, were very friendly and had a lot of advice and knowledge about the area, and were always willing to help out or make the food we wanted.
Being on the edge of the lake, there were wonderful views and lots of birds and other wildlife, and the sunsets were amazing!
All in all, it was a great place to stay, and we'd definitely go there again! -

We will all our life remember this wounderful place. We were there on the 1st January 2013: it was really peaceful and marvellous. Chandala prepared us a barbecue near the litte swimmingpool, and then Summa (the guide of Ceylon Heritage tours) did fireworks, we drunk "arrack" and Chandala prepared the traditionnal Sri Lanka's way going through the new year (I'm sorry, my mothertongue is french). On the morning, Chandala and his team cooked for us the best "Spring Hoppers" i ate in Sri Lanka; please, just ask them to cook this meal for you: you will ever remind it !!! Thank you, Chandala, for your kindness and your professionnalism! It was just wounderful!!!

This ex Governor's bungalow was a wonderful surprise. It looked better than the pictures online. It was very spacious, clean with high ceilings.
The view from the back of the lake was spectacular. We woke up to watching water buffaloes in the lake, ducks in the garden, monitor lizards in the back yard & a deliciously cooked breakfast.
our caretaker Chandana was very hospitable & did a great job looking to our needs. We had a 101 lesson in making string hoppers which prompted the group to purchase the utensils to make them.
We highly recommend this place to anyone looking for few nights in Yala.

We had a great stay at Lake View from 26th to 30th October. Our 3 young children spent hours playing in the pool and the lovely garden. It is a great location to explore Yala, Bundala, the rock temple at Situlpahuwa and Kataragama. Chandana took good care of us and served us delicious breakfasts. The veranda and garden has a beautiful view of the Lake and is a great place to spot birds.
It would be great to have the option to order additional meals through Chandana during a stay at Lake View - rather than to have to decide on all the catering options in advance of arriving - I'm sure Chandana's dinner's would have been excellent!

The Tissa town from where we purchase all the provisions for the meals is quite far from the bungalow. It takes about 20 minutes one way to get to town by a three wheeler vehicle. If we are to go to town each day, it will cost us quite a bit and we will have to charge more for the meals, as now we hardly keep a profit on the food and also do not charge any taxes like in a hotel.
If you had asked me for extra meals when you were occupying the bungalow, I would have definitely obliged you as you stayed for 5 nights. You could have also given us the provisions and we would have cooked the other meals for you. Please don't hesitate to ask what you want next time. We are willing to make our guests happy.

We travelled through 10 cities in Sri Lanka and I can honestly say that Lake View Bungalow in Yala was the best. We were amazed at how well it is being maintained, its cleanliness, and the modern amneties. The pool was very welcoming at the end of the day and it has a great view of the Lake. The bungalow keeper, Chandana is very organized and takes pride in what he does. The deserts he make our fabulous. Ranjith, the cook is excellent too. The food was just delicious and out of this world. Chaminda (the young boy)hope I got his name right, maintains the gardens very well. He is a very hard working boy. We also met Piyadasa the watcher. All in all, Lake View Bungalow can be rated as the best of the best.
Thanks for sharing this place with us. Our son and his wife were most impressed.

My second visit to the LVB was a blast! It really does have such a beautiful setting near the lake and the place seems brand new in its modernity and luxury! When I'm staying somewhere new, I often worry about cleanliness, but the rooms and the bathrooms here were super-clean and offering cable TV, A/C, hot water and a swimming pool, there was not much more to ask for in terms of conveniences. The staff were so friendly and obliging and the food was excellent too. I highly recommend this wonderful place.

We were 11 in the party. We had a great time at the bungalow. It was certainly home away from home for us. The service of the caretaker from the time we arrived was just fantastic. He had our meals ready when we arrived late from Colombo. He even got us packed BF made for us when we went to Kataragama early in the morning. I loved the view from the back veranda, the seen of setting sun in Yodawawe was just what I was looking for my photos!! Rooms are just fabulous, the interior deco of the whole bungalow is very tastefully done. we enjoyed our morning walks on the Yodawawe bund kids all enjoyed the pool and Viky ( British national)enjoyed sun bathing by the pool side. We always had Sri Lankan food and one night was a barbecue which was a welcome change, especially for the kids. We will certainly go back again.

It was a very nice stay @ lake view bungalow with my two cousins who came down from Canada. They were really happy about the appearance, Clean and neatness of the bungalow and also about the hospitality of the staff. Bungalow owner Mrs. Nilanthi is a very nice person and she is always taking care of her guest. Still I can remember during my stay she called me several times to check whether things are all right. Food prepared by care taker is really delicious and we will never forget that taste.
Overall Lake view bungalow is a fantastic place to spend a holiday in Thissamaharama.

Our stay in Lake View Bungalow was one of the best places we ever been during our visit to Sri Lanka in January 2011. The place was well presented with spectacular views and immaculately maintained. We felt very homely every minute of our stay and were so--- comfortable and relaxed with our kids. The service provided by the caretaker Chandana, Chef and the boys was fantastic. As we are vegetarians they had no fuss making us the fabulous meals during our stay. Thanks to the crew at Lake View Bungalow, we enjoyed our trip to down south immensely. We can recommend this place to anyone without any hesitation and will definitely be back there on our next visit to Sri Lanka.

This was one of the excellent bungalows that I have ever visited and I will definitely recommend anyone who needs to go to Yala. The service was the best. The caretaker, "Chandana" and Cook and everyone Helped , did an absolutely great Job. Very friendly staff , won customer satisfaction. The next visit to Yala would definitely be this bungalow and we definitely would recommend this place to anyone. Thumbs up and Keep it up !~!~!

I went on invitation by my sister & her husband, fully expecting to check in to a typical safari bungalow in Yala. However, I was surprised to find it a beautiful home in the centre of a well laid out garden.
We were greeted by happy staff who helped us to get organized & settled. My first impression as I stepped in to the bungalow was... light, breeze & space.
Well designed with four bed-rooms & attached toilets with all amenities, I had the pleasure of using the room over-looking the back garden where the waters of the Yodha Wewa was lapping at her boundary.
With mesh framed windows which I kept open, I would fall asleep to the sounds of comforting nocturnal nature. I did not see the need to use the air conditioning. The fans circulated the cool breeze which brushed past the tank waters & the rustling foliage in the garden.
Each day, we did a morning & evening safari to the Yala game park about half an hour away in a safari vehicle made for just that. We would return to the bungalow for a nice hot shower & food made just perfect. Christmas day was very special with a BBQ set up near the small swimming pool. We feasted on festive fare which included lobster & ended the night with the lighted Christmas pudding.
To conclude, I must mention my favourite place in the bungalow. It is the long open Verandah with lounging chairs, over looking the back yard & the Yodha Wewa where I could listen to & watch bird life, spread open the newspaper, get through a few headings & then, find myself in dreamland.
It was truly a home away from home.

We stayed at Lake View Bungalow for a few days during our stay in Colombo as we wanted to visit Yala.
The Bungalow is stunning and the views of the resevoir at the back of the bungalow are breath taking!
Every room is spacious and exceptionally clean.
The decor is fresh but relaxing at the same time.
The staff are friendly and the cook made the most amazing food!
It was such a joy to return to the bungalow after a day at Yala as the bungalow is so comfortable and clean.
The rooms have air condiitoning/fans so our sleep was restful and comfortable.
It was lovely to wake up in the mornings and hear the birds.
The gardens are very well kept and very spacious.
I loved every single minute of my stay at Yala and I can not wait to go back there again.

On arrival we were warmly greeted and shown to our rooms. The rooms were both spacious and luxurious. Plenty of space to store luggage and clothes in each room. All rooms have en-suite facilities including air-conditioning.
The main area of the bungalow is open and inviting with areas to have a casual chat and a drink. Also a large dining table to have sit down meals.
The cook is truly fantastic and we always looked forward to meal times. He is both skilled in Eastern & Western cusines. I would highly recommend the local dishes he prepared.
The houseboy is exceptional and skilled in multiple languages. He is friendly and always inquiring about our welfare.
We throughly enjoyed our stay and have already recommemded Lake View Bungalow Yala to many our friends in the UK.

Lake view bungalow is situated on the banks of the Yoda Wewa. You wake up to the sound of birds and walk to the long verandah to enjoy your morning coffee while gazing at the tank. Bird life abounds. Apart from the egrets and lapwings you also get a pair of Imperial green pigeons visiting daily. The service was excellent. Chandana the house boy particularly showed attention to detail and along with the chef organized a great barbecue for us. The staff are attentive to all your needs and try to cater to your requests as best as they can.The bungalow is made for your comfort. All the rooms are well appointed and spacious. However it is the verandah stretching along the rear of the bungalow that makes you feel most relaxed. The bungalow is well situated and within half an hour you can make it to the entrance of the Yala National Park. It is within easy distance of Tissamaharama, Kataragama and Kirinda. You can also visit the Bundala bird sanctuary if you set out early. I would recommend that you consult the owner about hiring a jeep and driver. What I liked most about the bungalow is that it produces an atmosphere conducive to doing some your work with minimum disturbance. I managed to write articles, plan projects etc in between safari's. Altogether a truly relaxing getaway.

We went on holiday in august last year with my family.
Lovely view of the lake from the back of the bungalow which
which also has a large lawn where you can sit under a tree
and watch birds.
The rooms were spotlessly clean a home away from home and the cook had only to be told what you wanted and he put out a fantastic tasty meal. The houseboy too was very attentive and obliging.
After a tiering day of going on safari to the yala park it was really nice to relax in the small pool and sip a drink.

The Lake View Bungalow Yala has all the modern facilities built to international standards - hot showers, air conditioned rooms, large open plan living spaces and a magnificent view from the back verandah, looking into a large Lake known as the Yodha Wewa. Bird life abounds. You even have your own Chef, gardner and house cleaner on site. There is an onsite back-up generator in case of that rare power outage.
If you are going out to see wild life at Yala, leaving at the crack of dawn, you will look forward to returning to some luxury in a super comfortable home, with lunch ready on the table and then savour the thought of having an afternoon siesta to recover.
If you are just looking for a weekend away in rural Sri Lanka, relax in the Bungalow, then take a walk in the morning along the shores of the Lake and enjoy the ambience of the location and fit in a swim in the lap pool in the afternoon to cool off. Overall, its a great place to go to.

The owner, Nilanthi, is a wonderful person. We had a good chat at her home.
As for Lake View Bungalow, it is a fantastic place hidden away on a lake. It's a new bungalow, clean, and well maintained. It is a quiet place with a large front and rear ground. Staff are well mannered, kind, friendly and will assist you with whatever you need.
Chandana, the house boy is extremely helpful and well organised. Chaminda, the cook, cooks the most tasteful dishes which is just mouth watering. Ask him to prepare what you like in advance, but don't have to worry, the house boy will inquire by you before every meal.
You will definately love this place. Happy Holidays.
