Old Tiverton Four Corners Schoolhouse No. 1 is located within Historic Tiverton Four Corners. Let your imagination wander back to the mid 1800’s as you pass through the proper boys or girls door into this fully remodeled structure. Ring the working vintage twenty-four inch, cast-iron school bell to gather your friends and family for an old-fashioned meal prepared with local produce and cooked in our gourmet kitchen equipped with the latest fixtures for your convenience. Marvel at our collection of period décor and historic schoolhouse memorabilia as you relax in the spacious living room equipped with comfortable seating, a 46" HDLCD TV, a... working wood-burning stone fireplace, and central air conditioning / heating. Wide-plank pine flooring finished with an old fashioned and environmentally friendly Tung oil with citrus helps maintain the historic charm.

Tiverton Four Corners Schoolhouse No. 1 was built in 1800 by the Manchester Family, one of the original founding families of Tiverton. The Town realized the need for public education in the mid 1800’s, which at that time was typically provided for in private homes. In 1854 the Manchesters sold the property to the town for one hundred dollars with the right to buy it back when and if the town disposed of it. The Town of Tiverton used the Schoolhouse until 1925, a period in time when the advent of motorized bus transportation afforded consolidations to regional schools. Schoolhouse No. 1 was closed in 1925 when Nonquit School was opened and subsequently sold at auction in 1928 for one-hundred eighty dollars to Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Rego. The Regos converted it into a single family home where their family lived up until 2004. We recently had the pleasure to meet a granddaughter of the Regos who said the original belfry blew over in a storm. Much to our surprise, the original bell is alive and well in Maine.

The Schoolhouse has two bedrooms and one bathroom equipped with a Whirlpool tub. The master bedroom has a king size bed fitted with a luxurious ten inch foam mattress covered with Egyptian linens. A wall-mounted LED TV complete with cable access will help insure a relaxing finish to your day. The second bedroom is outfitted twin bunk-beds and an LCD TV to accommodate friends or family. WI-FI is provided free of charge for those of you who like to stay in touch while you are on vacation. A high-efficiency laundry system is available if you plan on an extended stay.

When you’re done exploring inside, take a walk around the five-acre grounds where you will find meandering streams, vegetable and herb gardens, plenty of chickens, a couple of goats, and a path through the woods. If your timing is right, you can help us gather a couple of eggs for breakfast, harvest some fresh herbs to complement your evening meal or perhaps pick some fresh vegetables for a garden salad. After you are done strolling the grounds, amble a short five minute walk north to visit the heart of Historic Tiverton Four Corners, a quaint three-hundred year old cross-roads village. There you will find unique shops, restaurants, Gray’s Ice Cream shop, an Arts Center, Art Galleries, and many other establishments.   Spent a great weekend at the Schoolhouse! It's very charming and has every modern convenience while still staying true to its schoolhouse roots. Loved walking around the farm! Tiverton is a lovely town with fun shops to visit! Excellent vineyard to visit nearby too!

  The Schoolhouse is a great place to stay. You are getting a whole house complete with a well stocked kitchen for cooking meals, washer and dryer, plenty of Tv's throughout and beautiful restored decor that is reminiscent of earlier times. Much attention has been paid to detail here!
  
  Booking was super easy as was check-in and out and the owners are great at communicating efficiently.
  
  The condition of the Schoolhouse is perfect. All appliances and fixtures are brand new and the grounds are very well maintained. The kitchen/living area are very spacious and could easily accommodate a larger group of people if you wanted to plan a special group meal during your stay.
  
  The location is extremely convenient to the shops at Four Corners including Gray's Ice Cream, The Provender, Milk & Honey Bazaar, as well as retail shops and antiques. Coastal Roasters is only a few minutes drive for morning coffee. The property is also only about 15 minutes from a grocery store which would be helpful for food shopping for a longer stay. And you could be in Newport within 35-40 minutes.
  
  Two gripes we had were
  1. So many lightswitches! Some seemed not to go to anything and it took several minutes each time to find the right one.
  2. Extremely sensitive fire alarms. We set them off 3 times and the first 2 times were just from pre-heating the oven!
  
  Bonus: They stock the freezer with great quality meat and seafood for you to purchase at will. And they leave you complimentary farm fresh eggs for breakfast in the morning.
  
  Overall, we had a truly wonderful experience at the Schoolhouse and we have already told many friends about it.

  A Perfect New England Weekend!

  My traveling companion handled most of the rental arrangements, but everything seemed to go very smoothly. The home was beautiful. It was a perfect home for a weekend away as the open format lent very well to entertaining. We loved cooking and drinking wine in the kitchen! Tiverton was a picturesque seaside New England town. We enjoyed walking to the farm and the little shops nearby. Even better was the nearby winery, providing a great afternoon of wine tasting. It was fun to be staying in a historic schoolhouse, and to know the family had a part in decorating the home. The 'Welcome message' they left on the blackboard was a lovely touch and all the antique schoolhouse decorations were perfect.

  Comfortable and complete accommodations in a beautiful New England town. Within walking distance of the town center where you can find a few restaurants, antique stores, farmers markets, and boutique shops. We visited the winery 3 miles away and had a fabulous afternoon wine tasting. This is a perfect location for a relaxing girls weekend or romantic getaway!

  We just got back from a girls' weekend at Schoolhouse No. 1 and our stay could not have been better! The rental was well-located, within walking distance of cute shops and restaurants. The house was very clean and well-maintained.
  
  My favorite part was the gorgeous kitchen! It was outfitted with chef-quality appliances and was perfect for cooking a nice meal and enjoying the company of good friends.
  
  I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a weekend.

  Stayed at the schoolhouse for a 'girls weekend'. The house was spotless and very modernized (brand new appliances) - while maintaining it's historic charm. Everything felt very clean - the bedding - the bathroom - the kitchen. The village of Tiverton Four Corners is very charming - but will only occupy you for a day - so plan for other activities.

  "Quintessential New England"

  The school house combines historic charm with all of the modern amenities. The house has all new stainless steel appliances and washer and dryer. Located within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The beach is about a mile away and the town of Little Compton is just down the road. The owners are very accommodating and have really thought of everything to make your stay very comfortable including farm fresh eggs from their working farm next door. I was here for three weeks and hope to return in the future.

  Adam and Kristin have paid special attention to detail in this totally renovated Schoolhouse. From the comfort of the memory foam bed, to the luxurious bathroom, to the upscale living area and kitchen, you will feel right at home. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay which was made extra special with fresh eggs, milk, and flowers. Next time you're in the Farmcoast area I would highly recommend staying at the Four Corners Schoolhouse, though I tend to think the availability will be limited in the very near future. Thank you for hosting me adam and Kristin! I look forward to visiting again sometime!
