      An amazing place to stay.

Left on 10/24/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Red door cottage is a brilliant place to stay. The layout of the cottage suited our family of 4 with 2 teenagers, providing their own space to view their Dvd's/videos on the downstairs/bedroom TV from the large selection provided. The upstairs open plan lounge and dining room was spacious and had a fantastic TV and surround sound system. The kitchen had all the equipment you could possibly need with lots of extras left by the owners. The bedrooms were large and very comfortable with lots of fans available to cool us down. The house also has air conditioning. We had asked for bedding and towels to be provided and there were more than enough towels, including beach towels for our stay. A large basket of extra toiletry items you may have forgotten to bring with you was a lovely touch. The upstairs deck gave beautiful views of the lake and some amazing sunsets. The garden is huge, secluded from neighbours on either side by trees. We enjoyed the 2 kayaks in the safe, shallow waters of the lake, although it's a 2 person job to carry them across the boulders and rocks to get to the waters edge. The downstairs patio area is a lovely place to sit, shaded by the deck above. The shed contains a large variety of games to play and 3 bikes too. The fire pit at the bottom of the garden was well used by us and firewood was provided by the owners.
The cottage is about a 20 minute drive from the lovely town of Tobermory, which is a good place to dine with lots of restaurants and cafes and shops. The boat trip to nearby Flowerpot Island is highly recommended. The beautiful Singing Sands beach is 8 minutes away and the interpretive night hike around the beach, forest and boardwalk was great fun! Tobermory is a dark skies community with restrictions on the use of street lights, making the area amazing on a clear night because the sky becomes alive with thousands of stars, shooting stars, moving satellites and you can see the milky way. It's a fantastic place to stay!

      What a great vacation...

Left on 08/30/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We just spent a week at the Cottage with the Red Door and are really glad we did. We were looking for something different this year and decided to try Tobermory. In the past we went to Southampton or Sauble and spent to whole time on the beach.

The cottage was beautiful and the owners made sure we were comfortable and made sure we would have everything we needed. The satellite TV and Wi-Fi kept our kids, both big and small, occupied. They even left a bottle of wine as a welcome gift.

When I stepped out onto the deck overlooking Lake Huron, I could instantly feel my blood pressure dropping.

The cottage was within a short distance to town, parks and the Singing Sands Beach. We did a lot of hiking at the Cypress Bay park. It had amazing vistas at every turn. We even stopped to have a swim at the Grotto. Be prepared to purchase a day pass for the park, which was about $13 per car load.

One day was spent going on a boat to Flowerpot Island. Again, the picture opportunities were around every turn. I got some of the best pictures I have ever taken.

To celebrate my birthday we did a dinner cruise to Manitoulin Island on the Chi Cheemaun Ferry. The food was good and a good time was had by all.

Sining Sands Beach has free parking and is a very large beach perfect for sand toys and beach sports. The water was warm. For those of you with young kids, it is a very shallow beach. I walked over 2 hundred yards out into the water before the water level was above my knees.

Thanks again to the owners of the Cottage with the Red Door. My one week vacation felt like I had been away from work for two.

      Fantastic vacation!

Left on 10/28/2011 for a stay in July 2011

We had a wonderful week at Red Door cottage. Everything went smoothly from booking to arrival at Red Door. The cottage was exactly as represented and the hosts were wonderful - even left us a little gift to enjoy while we were there. The cottage was very clean and well appointed with lots of little extras from toiletries to kitchen staples. The sunsets were amazing from the deck or the waterfront. Singing sands beach is a short drive away and is very shallow for a long way out - great for little ones. There were games and books, Dvds etc for rainy days...but we had a week of fantastic weather too! Thanks to our hosts for all the little special touches! Loved the cottage guest book for the children and your thoughtful replies. Would definitely visit again.

      Wonderful Relaxation

Left on 10/27/2011 for a stay in July 2011

The Red Door Cottage was a perfect stay for our family. The owners went out of their way to provide games, magazines, bikes, boats, etc. for our vacation to be active, but relaxing. The water view was better than the pictures and the cottage was clean and well stocked with everything we would need. A wonderful stay at a wonderful place!

      A wonderful experience

Left on 09/10/2011 for a stay in June 2011

We had a great time at the Red Door and hope to stay there again sometime. The cottage really feels more like a home than a traditional cottage. It is outfitted beautifully with everything we needed and more. There are new furnishings and barbecue, lots of extras like a kayak, bikes, video game for the kids; great creature comforts all around. This is a wonderful location on a quiet road overlooking the water. We saw lots of nice birds and wildlife here, and the night view is amazing - plenty of stars and no city lights at all. Tobermory is a great place for a vacation and the Red Door hosts really did exceptionally well at providing a great vacation place.

      Relaxing

Left on 08/06/2010 for a stay in July 2010

This cottage was very welcoming. The owner supplied many extras to make our stay lovely. We enjoyed the privacy, the harbor view, and the close proximity to Singing Sands National park/beach. My only tip would be to make sure you turn off inside lights when not in a room at night as the lights attract flying insects from the many surrounding trees!
