Cottage Profile This spectacular timber-frame cottage is located on a large private lot on the shores of Hay Bay. It overlooks Devil's Straits between Georgian Bay and Lake Huron. The centrepiece of this cottage is the magnificent floor-to-ceiling open fireplace, hand-crafted using the unique stone of the area. This fireplace is surrounded by a 32-foot vaulted ceiling and supported by large squared timber post-and-beam construction. The large floor-to-ceiling windows and natural pine flooring only add to a bright, spectacular and natural living environment. The main living area is organized around an open concept design containing the living... room, dining room and kitchen. The living room is tastefully furnished with collectibles and antiques. Furnishings include a large, comfortable leather couch, a uniquely carved Indonesian day bed as well as the window seating that surrounds the massive Rumford fireplace. Adjacent to the seating area is a built-in pine desk with telephone and full satellite wireless Internet connection. A superb audio system, complete with an iPod docking station, in addition to the CD player is available for your listening pleasure. The dining room contains a square Australian jarrah wood captain's table with highback chairs that seat eight. Next to the dining area is a beautifully-appointed kitchen with all the amenities of home. This kitchen includes plenty of cupboard and counter space with modern appliances (fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher). The kitchen is very well equipped catering to all of your culinary needs and contains a breakfast bar with three high-back chairs. Sliding glass doors lead from the dining area onto a large wrap-around deck with teak patio table and chairs as well as lounge chairs. This is an excellent spot to enjoy the incredible water views and sunsets. Step down to the lower deck with a new 7 person spa/ hot tub - perfect for soaking after a long day kayaking the bay or hiking the Bruce Trail! No matter where you sit, you are surrounded by the sights and soothing sounds of lapping water from the bay. The remaining rooms on the ground floor are: a modern three-piece bathroom with shower, full laundry facilities and a beautiful, bright bedroom with a queen-sized bed. An open staircase leads from the lower level to the second storey of the cottage. At the top of the stairs is a cozy sitting / sleeping area with armchair and double bed. This is also where the satellite HDTV with DVD and VCR are located. On the second floor, there is an amazing 20-by-30 foot open loft master suite, which contains a luxurious Jacuzzi tub, shower, sitting area and four-post teak king-sized bed, as well as a private deck with an exquisite view of the lake. The master bedroom also contains a separate washroom and walk-in closet. The second upstairs bedroom has two pine twin beds and a large closet filled with games - perfect for children. A 600 foot driveway winds down from the main road to the cottage. The cottage is located on a private five acre forest consisting of mature cedar, birch, spruce and tamarack trees. There is a large grassy area at the rear of the cottage where the kids can play. The cottage rates a 'five out of five' on our privacy rating. A short trail leads from the cottage down to 500 feet of natural undisturbed shoreline, which is bordered by a nature reserve and contains many small bays and inlets. This is a great area to explore by water. A canoe, two kayaks and snorkelling equipment are provided with the cottage rental. The area is also renowned for excellent fishing. Swimming opportunities exist left down the shoreline about 150 ft. or right to the end of the point. Due to lower water levels on Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, you may wish to explore more ideal swimming opportunities accessible from this cottage - swimming can be enjoyed in the deeper waters off the numerous islands in Hay Bay (easily accessible by kayak or canoe). While enjoying this deep water swimming you can enjoy snorkelling! The shoreline in this area consists of flat rock with some stones. Swim shoes are recommended. The cottage is located at the end of a paved road a short bike ride away (4 km) from Tobermory. Take advantage of the four mountain bikes included in your rental at the cottage. You could even bike to the beach at the base of Hay Bay and enjoying more swimming opportunites there. In the village of Tobermory, you can stroll through the shopping area, visit the library, restaurants and beautiful natural harbour, or take a scenic boat cruise to view shipwrecks, lighthouses and visit Flowerpot Island. Dinner cruises aboard the Chi-Cheemaun are also very popular. For hikers, naturalists and scuba divers, the area is a dream come true. This is truly a magnificent cottage!

  The cottage was total luxury. It felt as if someone handed us their house keys for a week by giving us access to the amazing stereo, bicycles, kayaks, etc. Everything in the cottage is super high quality like the dishes, the comforters, the pillows...
  
  We enjoyed making fires at the fire pit, the hot tub, walking on the rocks with the kids.
  
  The bottle of wine was a good pick too! Our friends from Paris enjoyed it too.

  A Magical Vacation Destination

  We totally loved this vacation destination and would love to return at another time. It is so peaceful and private! We enjoyed using the canoe and kayaks provided, and the master bedroom suite was so restful! The service provided by the rental agency was also wonderful! The whole experience was so relaxing and magical for us. The only thing that would make this vacation experience perfect would be if the cleaning of this fabulous home could be included in the rental price.

  Tobermory 2010

  The cottage was beautiful, the kind of place you would like as a home, very well equipped with all the amenities to enjoy a quiet holiday. The privacy is rated 5 star, and it really is, yet you are close enough to town that you can bike there for a little adventure. The swimming is not ideal, but there are beaches that are close. The waterfront offers up a vista of sunsets and is setup well to burn away the night with a campfire. The canoeing and kayaking through the bay is fantastic, you are sheltered from the big water and there are many islands to explore. The deck off the master bedroom became our observatory on the clear nights, the area is secluded enough to make for excellent star gazing. The proximity to Tobemory and the ferry makes the trip from Northern Ontario very easy. These trips to The Bruce are an annual trip for our familly, the stay at Elenriel puts 2010 at the top of the list for enjoyable holidays.

  Very secluded (which is both good and bad... especially as the electricity can go out at night in that area);
  Great lakeside location;
  Very quiet and relaxing;

  Beautiful property on a secluded site

  This is a beautiful home, very tastefully decorated and comfortable to stay in. It is located on a shallow bay which is rocky, but fun to explore and pleasant for swimming -- but water shoes are a must. The beach is covered in fascinating rocks -- tricky for older people or the very young to navigate, but fun to explore.
  It has excellent privacy. its close to Tobermorey, which as lots to see and do.
  My family really enjoyed it and we would be happy to return.
