      Very disappointed!

Left on 08/21/2012 for a stay in August 2012

These accomodations were not as we had been led to believe.
The kitchen has serious ant problems as well as the roaches!
We bought ant traps and left them. The baby was black and covered in pet fur from crawling on the floors- they need a good cleaning! One screen in the kitchen was broken, and one window in the sunroom was broken and taped up with the loose shards of glass still in the window! A serious hazard for the children, and should have been fixed or at least the glass removed. We blocked off the area so the baby could not get near it.
The barbeque is terrible and should be thrown away. The TV had no usable sound quality, very static and childen could not hears their programs at all. We ended up going home to bring a DVD player and TV for the rain days. There is only one full bathroom not 2, and the bedrooms are tiny and all on one floor, not 2 floors as we had been led to believe.
One of the bedrooms has 2 single/cot sized beds not twin beds as listed, and not comfortable for a full sized adult.
The furniture is all patio type and not comfortable for sitting for any length of time, and no couch in the living room, only a very uncomfortable old futon. Not great for a two week stay!! This cottage is seriously overpriced and needs some TLC!

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with some feed back in regards to your stay, I am sorry you did not enjoy your holiday.
On the cottage profile we do state that the cottage is a one storey raised Viceroy cottage, that it has 4 bedrooms (furnished with a queen bed, 4 singles, and a set of bunk beds), that there are 2 bathrooms; one 4 piece and one 2 piece, and we also have several pictures of the interior of the cottage that shows the furniture provided. With this said I’m not sure how we could have misled with the information provided. The one thing I have done after discussing this with the owner, is list that 2 of the singles are the same length as a single but only 30 inches across and have 4“ plus a topper foam mattresses.
There are 4 regular twin mattresses for 4 adults if the top bunk is utilized.
I am sorry you encountered problems with one of the two TV’s at the cottage, and I do wish you had contacted either the emergency contact or our office to make us aware of the issue as we would have been happy to try and rectify the problem for you. The owner has since replaced one of the TVs and is looking into the BBQ.
With regard to the window, it was damaged earlier during the first or second rental week prior to your stay and the people hired to respond to notification of a problem did what they could to mend and secure the broken window until it could be repaired properly as a new window had to be ordered. The window was replaced August 25 once the new one was available. With regard to the screen in the kitchen, the owner’s had the screen replaced and did not know it was torn again. This probably could have been replaced again if Rent Cottage or the Emergency Contact had been informed.
The Ikea futon/couch was purchased last spring.
Insects are always present in cottage country and one of the popular native insects to this area is the Pennsylvania Wood Roach which is often mistaken for a Cockroach. These insects are more of a nuisance and pose no health risks. They feed primarily on decaying organic matter which is why they are found in this area and can usually be seen outside under stumps, bark, etc. but can make their way into homes by hitching a ride on firewood, clothing, and towels and usually die within a couple of days as there is no food for them inside. This owner has a spray done for them every spring but the effects of this can start to wear off towards the end of August. This year was also particularly bad for ants in all areas and in speaking to a pest control company they also said they were experiencing the same thing but with ants its difficult as they will appear out of nowhere one day, be there for maybe 2-4 days and once the hatching is through they are gone. We usually ask owners to have some spare traps around for renters to use should this happen.

Again, thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback of your stay, I have passed all your comments along to the owner and should you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your comments. The insects you have mentioned are called Pennsylvainia Wood Roaches that are native to the area. They pose no health risks and are more of a nuisance. Their diet consists of decaying wood and they can be found under and in wood on the forest floor, but they will sometimes make their way into the cottage by hitching a ride on firewood, clothing, towels, etc.

We enjoyed The Cottage because it was clean and had wonderful spaces. The family room and dining are were open and had great views of the bay/lake. The kitchen was clean and had a large central island for preparation and holding our fresh bought goods. In addition the appliances and cutlery were all of great quality.

Beautiful, very clean cottage with tons of light. We really enjoyed the combined living room/dining room with the large window view of the lake on rainy days. The kitchen was well equipped. We loved using the canoe to paddle to Singing Sands and along the shoreline.

All round great place to stay.
