ChicagoA lovely week in the Italian countryside
Left on 12/13/2012 for a stay in June 2012
It was a great week in Italy at Villa Fondo Le Teglie. From the time Susan greeted us until we left, we felt at home and couldn't of asked for a better place to stay.
The villa is well located with trips to Todi, Orvieto, Assisi, Cortona, Deruta, Siena and Montepulciano all within reach. It was really welcoming to return home for wine and apps around the pool while one couple prepared a feast that we shared al fresco. We were 4 couples who enjoy cooking and eating and the cooking facilities both inside and out met our every need.
The bedrooms and baths were very comfortable. We also always look for Internet access and laundry facilities when we rent a property and we were not disappointed. We've probably rented villas or apartments 10 or 12 times and found Fondo Le Teglie to be our favorite.
Ask Susan for recommendations. She has great local contacts and suggestions for markets and things to see. -

GeorgiaAmazing destination and cherished memories.
Left on 12/11/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We stayed at Susan's wonderful "slice of paradise" for the third time during our olive harvest adventure this year. Having been raised in the U.S. and now having lived in Italy for almost 10 years, her knowledge of what us tourists are looking for in accommodations combined with her vast knowledge of many hidden gems in the more rural areas, make the Fondo Le Teglie experience unsurpassed!
The beautiful and luxurious villa is so warm and inviting and the swimming pool and vegetable garden along with the outdoor wood grill and oven put this place over the top! We wouldn't think of going to Italy without including a stay here during our trip.
Having the opportunity, with Susan's help, to visit the small rural stores, the local "watering hole", and fabulous restaurants only the locals know about, make our visits to Italy so much more rewarding. Of course the Villa is a destination in itself and we often enjoy spending the day there and maybe ending it with dinner cooked on the wood grill and eaten on the beautiful patio, while enjoying the wonderful Umbrian countryside views. Some nights, we enlist the culinary talents of Deena, an accomplished local chef, who is also entertaining to watch while she prepares those wonderful Italian dishes.
The only reason we give "excellent" ratings to this property is because there is no higher rating from which to choose! -

Cloverdale, CaliforniaFondo Le Teglie - Heaven in Umbria
Left on 09/25/2012 for a stay in September 2012
Fondo Le Teglie is truly nestled deep in the Umbrian countryside. It is owned and operated by Susan E., a real Georgia Peach who has lived in Europe for the past 10 years. She has transformed a decrepit 7th Century farm house and stable into a very well appointed villa that sleeps up to 11 people. Surrounded by farm land but only 20 picturesque minutes from Todi, a regional capital in Umbria, the Fondo is a bit of paradise inside of paradise. The pool, the gardens, the villa are all just plan wonderful! Susan can arrange in villa cooking classes, a cook for one or several nights (to die for) or adventures in the surrounding towns, castles and wineries (Montefalco, Deruda, Perugia, Florence, Siena and Orvietto are easy day trips). The picture album of the villa's transformation is a tribute to Susan's courage and vision. Truly amazing.

Left on 05/07/2012 for a stay in April 2012
The villa was beautiful, everything plus more than we expected. The owner Susan was the best. She was so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. She recommended and scheduled vespa tour, wine tasting tour, and driver. All of her recommendations were spot on. Our cook Deena was amazing, her meals were the best we had in the area. I have been an expat for 10 yrs living in London and have traveled a lot. This is an ideal destination for seasoned travellers, and would be a great easy experience for a first time European holiday. If you are looking for a villa experience in Italy this is perfect!

The villa is very charming with all the modern conveniences needed.
The location provides lots of opportunities for day trips or just relaxing
and doing very little.
You can stay in to cook in the fabulous kitchen or eat in one of the many great
restaurants.
It's one of my favorite vacation spots and I will definitely return as well
as tell all my friends and family about this gem. -

Left on 09/21/2011 for a stay in July 2011
During the month of July our family of six (children aged 13,11,9,6) traveled through Italy, Croatia and Montenagro. We were thrilled with our week at "Villa Fondo le Taglie" as it was beautifully appointed, very clean, has a fabulous swimming pool and allowed us to take in many of the surrounding villages. It is a perfect situation... mom and dad get to guide the sight seeing with the promise of many yummy gelato scoops and the pool in the afternoon! We can highly recommend the villa and Umbria! We hope to go again!

San Diego, CARefined Relaxation
Left on 07/05/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We stayed at the villa between stops in Rome and Florence. We found the villa to be a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Susan made us feel instantly at home, cooking us a wonderful dinner on the grill and guiding us on how to enjoy the Umbrian countryside. The experiences she provided gave us a glimpse into the real Italian life - cooking pizza in a 400 year-old brick oven with Deena, buying fresh eggs and sausages from a farm, and eating an amazing meal in picturesque Civita set atop a breathtaking hill. Susan's combination of facilities and services gives you a vacation that cannot be matched. The villa is an architectural beauty, while the relaxed atmosphere gave everyone in our family a chance to enjoy Umbria as they desired. My teenage daughters, typically hypnotized by technology, were fully submersed in the experience. The quality family time is something we will cherish for a lifetime. Don't miss this unique opportunity to come together as a family and build unforgettable memories.

Mt. Pleasant, SCGreat taste of Umbtia
Left on 06/07/2011 for a stay in May 2011
The villa was the perfect setting for another visit to Umbria. The scenery from every window was a feast for the eyes. Deena'a food, good wine, and Susan's help and advice regarding side excursions made our week one none of us will ever forget. We had previously made several short trips to Umbria plus one earlier trip renting another villa near Todi; the earlier villa was exceptional, but Susan's was better. We would highly recommend Fondo Le Teglie.

Decatur, GaFantastic Umbrian Villa Experience
Left on 01/01/2010 for a stay in July 2007
The ambiance of the villa is spacious, yet cozy. It's beautiful and totally comfortable. The setting in Umbria is absolutely stunning and the location is perfect for outings to Todi, Deruta, Assisi, Orvieto, and other charming Umbrian towns and villages. We also thoroughly enjoyed relaxing at the villa, particularly in and around the pool, and taking walks in the area.
We highly recommend taking advantages of the services by locals that Susan, the villa owner can arrange. The hightlight for us was having a delightgul local woman, Deena, entertain us and delight our tastebuds with her authentic preparation of fried sage leaves and squash blossoms, pasta, grilled meats and vegetables, and incredible homemade pizza in the outdoor wood-burning pizza oven. We also enjoyed a tour of pottery making/painting in Deruta, a winery tour and tasting, and a guided hike in the Umbrian countryside.
I so love this villa and the entire experience that I will be going back there for the third time in July, 2010 - this time with eleven of my college friends to celebrate a "significant" birthday.

Stone Mountain, GeorgiaThe most wonderful trip I have ever taken...I want to go back!
Left on 12/31/2009 for a stay in April 2008
Going to Italy as a retirement trip was a dream come true. Seven friends joined me on this adventure and from the moment the car picked us up at the airport until he took us back to Rome it was perfect (not easy to please that many women ranging in ages from 47 to 68!)
When we arrived at the villa we found Susan, the owner, preparing our dinner for us. This gave us time to unpack and get acquained with her and our surroundings (she lives next door which is convenient if you have questions!)
Susan had sent us a shopping list so she had our favorite foods and beverages in the refrigerator and cabinets. This enabled us to prepare meals when we wanted. One night Susan's cook came to prepare dinner and give us cooking lessons.
We also went to the "castle on the corner" for one of the best meals we had ever had. The fresh game on spits in the large fireplace gave us a clue what to expect and it just got better. We loved eating rose pedal jelly on fresh Italian bread - incredible! We ate so much of it the owner sent us each a jar as a gift to take home!
The villa is so big and designed so nicely that we found eight women able to accomodate each other with no problem. The appliances are modern but the decor charming and "old world!" There is plenty of room for privacy if wanted. In the evenings we read, played games, and listened to music. We were too busy to watch t.v. However, if the weather were warmer we would have loved a dip in the pool overlooking the countryside! Did I tell you the view is spectacular?!!!!
We found the location was perfect for day trips. We could either drive (one of our group was the driver) or take the train (which is really fun.) We went to Assisi, Daruta, Orvieto, Todi and other towns I can't even remember the names of. We went shopping, church exploring and eating, eating, eating. We took the train to Florence for an overnight.
What I liked least? Hmmm, the fact that it we were there only one week!

Fort Smith, ArkansasA Beautiful Piece of Paradise!
Left on 12/03/2009 for a stay in August 2008
We have had the good fortune to stay at Villa Fondo Le Teglie several times.
The most recent being August, 2008. Susan, the owner, does an incredible
job ensuring your comfort during your stay. She is an excellent resource
for special events and activities to make your time in Italy even more
special. In August we participated in an Italian cooking class at the villa.
Susan arranged the entire event for us. She has also helped set up tours,
arranged for cooks to come in to prepare meals for us, and offers a wealth
of information about things to do in the area. If your vacation plans are for
more rest and relaxation than touring, the villa offers a wonderful pool and
patio with breath taking views. Enjoying a wonderful Italian wine and some
awesome cheese while taking in the view and contemplating life, was a
daily activity for us. We also took a refreshing dip in the pool every
afternoon after a long day of touring. The villa is very kid friendly; our two
boys always enjoy our stay there. Nearby Todi is a beautiful walled city. We
enjoyed roaming its shops and cafes. The villa is also close to many other
quaint Italian cities, each with their own charming personality. Susan
helped us find a wonderful local rental car company, and even helped us
find a perfect hotel in Rome where we stayed before heading to the villa.
Italy is a magical country and Villa Fondo Le Teglie is the perfect venue to
explore all of the richness of the Italian countryside. -

Toronto, CanadaA great 'find' in the Umbrian countryside!
Left on 11/30/2009 for a stay in August 2009
We chose the Sismano/Todi area so we could make easy day trips but also wanted to spend time relaxing at the villa and the pool. Our day trips included Assisi, Deruta, Orvieto/Bagnoregio, Montefalco, Bevagna and Todi. What we experienced in one week was magical.
Susan Evans (the owner) gave us a warm welcome on arrival. Upon confirmation of our booking, Susan had mailed an extensive package including maps, activities and complete details about the villa, offering to assist us with planning, which we definitely took advantage of. Fondo Le Teglie is more than just a beautiful villa; Susan helped us with everything, including our itinerary for the week. Her knowledge of the region and her local contacts gave us an experience we couldn’t have found otherwise.
Both the villa and the service surpassed our expectations. This 400 year old stone farm house has been meticulously restored and maintained. The kitchen is a dream, the bathrooms 5-star, deluxe linens, bathrobes, the list goes on. Every detail was covered; Susan even provided an Italian cell phone to use during our stay! This is an exceptional property that we all highly recommend; we are currently planning our return for 2010.
There were 8 of us, we’ve rented self-catering villas in Italy and France in the past so we were prepared for a few surprises; we certainly had many surprises at Fondo Le Teglie, one pleasant surprise after another.

Carmel, CaliforniaFantastic week in Umbria
Left on 11/16/2009 for a stay in July 2009
Spent a week at Villa Fondo Le Teglie in Umbria. Susan Evans greeted us on arrival and made sure we were well situated for our stay. The Villa is a gorgeous and very well appointed restored Umbrian farm house. There is a large modern kitchen well designed for large dinners or just making a small snack; comfortable living areas and terraces for relaxing; four good size bedrooms and three bathrooms upstairs. We really liked the sandstone floors and showers! Great views across the countryside from the windows and terraces.
Susan is very knowledgable on the surrounding area and was very helpful to suggest some interesting and fun things for us to do, when we weren't relaxing by the pool or walking around nearby Todi. We toured Carsulae, the ruins of Roman town nearby, rented scooters (Vespas) for a day and rode as a group around Lake Trasimeno stopping for lunch on the lakeside (what a blast!), and shopped for hand-painted cermics at Deruta.
We will certainly return to "Fondo" again next year. Thank you Susan for one of the best vacations we've ever had in Italy.
