My wife and I spent 6 nights in Tokyo, and found Retro Tokyo perfect for us. With only a short walk to the asakusa and Ginza lines, and on a direct route from Narita airport, transport is no problem. If travelling to Nikko, the Tobu line takes off from asakusa. The apartment is small, well-appointed, even with a portable wi-fi that can be borrowed. We felt well-supported on our first trip to Japan, with a mobile phone left in the apartment to contact Miyuki should you have any problems. The information provided on getting to the apartment was excellent. And last but by no means least, the Tom Tom Bakery across the street is fantastic, and the convenience store, well, convenient.

Approximately 15min walking distance to Tokyo SkyTree, opp a 24Hr Convenience Store. Kitchen supplies are complete, they've got everything you need. Even though its not so spacious, it is pleasantly adequate and clean. If you are sleeping on the sofa bed, beware that the sun may greet you in the morning as the curtain is translucent~
Information of Japan and attractions are neatly found in a folder.
Its strategic location is a big plus! A mobile phone is provided to inform her of your safe arrival and just in case you needed help~~
As we had a late departure, we requested for late check-out and at the time she arrived to clean up, she greeted us warmly. To add on, as we had heavy big luggages, she have kindly checked out for us the easiest route and timings to the airport!
Definitely will book again in future!!! 333 -

I just wanted to say "ditto" on previous reviews. We have two young-ish children who were able to sleep together on the futon-like couch. We felt very warm and cozy in our space. Everything we needed was provided. The apartment manager was so helpful when the wifi failed. She immediately got it fixed. The location is so perfect for getting around Tokyo. We loved asakusa and ate and shopped around there a lot. If you have older children, the one pullout might not work. Thanks again!

Our experience at Retro Tokyo was perfect. The family wanted to see the real Japan & got it staying at the Retro. It is perfectly located for sightseeing, amenities & subways. There were 100s of restaurants within a short walk, and a vending machine down stairs with hot chocolates in a can, that the kids emptied. Food stores and small supermarkets were close making it easy if you wanted to eat in. If you like a bakery there was one across the road, it make breakfast easy. Everything has been thought of, make sure you read the information folders in the desk as there was a lot of information that made it easy to plan the next day. I would thoroughly recommend this to couples or families..

Left on 11/23/2012 for a stay in November 2012
This is a perfect place to stay while visiting Tokyo. It is located in a wonderful part of the city.
A few mins walk to the metro and surrounded by great restaurants and bars.
Myself and my husband stayed there for 12 nights and it was a calm little oasis after a day visiting the highlights of Tokyo.
I suffer from a bad back and am always concerned when sleeping in a new bed, no worries here, the bed was perfect and we slept like babies.
As for the neighbours, quiet as mice, never heard them!
Cafe de Crie is right across the road for cheap breakfasts. Convenience store also across the road and open 24/7. -

Everything has been thought of & it makes for a perfect stay. Even the neighbours were friendly! I would thoroughly recommend this to couples or families & would stay again when we come. Thanks Yukiko for making it so easy!

This place is so well equipped - they have thought of everything! Even a phone to call the local manager (who is also great!!)

My husband and I stayed here x5 nights with our two girls aged 7 and 1 and the apt was perfect!
Was a wonderful base to get out and about to see some of the sites. The sky tree and amazing shops below are a must see as well as the big shrine/temple/markets located close to to the station.
There was a great little supermarket directly over the road for supplies and the apt had everything there to cook in (which we did do a few nights) but it is surrounded in yummy places to dine.
The Dvd's were a great touch and much appreciated for the nights we spent in.
Very handy to the railway station and the directions to the apt were great. We found it very easily with the detailed map given.
Thanks for a wonderful stay and the sweets on arrival were yummy! We would highly recommend to others. -

We loved this apartment, particularly its location. The apartment is a great little place, you don't need much in Tokyo there's too much to do in the city. It's comfortable enough, a double bed and fold out sofa for 2 kids. We are a family of 4 (girls 14 and 11) so it was fine for us. Asakusa is a lovely part of Tokyo, out of central city area but Sensoji Temple and the markets, sky tree, and the river cruise are so close. Handy to asakusa train station and even a super market (the best we found in Japan). Yes, there is street noise, but this is Tokyo! Highly recommend!

The apartment is in a great location (you wake-up looking at the asahi flame). While small by us standards, it accommodated my family of four without any problems. Communication from the owners was excellent. I would highly recommend this rental.

This apartment was perfect for our family of four during our stay in Tokyo. The apartment was clean and comfortable and had all the facilities we needed- the children loved the heated toilet seat and the washing machine was particularly useful. Asakusa was an ideal base for our trip and very handy for the underground. Would definitely recommend this apartment.

This apartment was just what we expected from the photos shown in the listing. It was cozy, clean and had all the amenities we needed to live in Tokyo for two weeks. Very comfortable for 2 people. The location was very convenient to the subway system with a quick transfer to a major JR train station. The neighborhood was wonderful with a convenience store and bakery just across the street, numerous restaurants and the new SkyTree al within walking distance. The property manager was easily available by phone. We really enjoyed exploring the long walkways along the river, shopping in asakusa, and eating Okonomiyaki at Sometaru. We will definitely recommend this property to other couples.

Left on 05/08/2012 for a stay in April 2012
My husband and I stayed at Retro Tokyo for a week in april 2012 and it was an absolute joy and a pleasure to spend the week here. The apartment is very centrally located and is about 5 minute walk to the nearest rail line (very convenient). The apartment is also across the road from a well stocked supermarket (there are also Family Marts and 7-11's around the corner) and there are also a couple of really nice restaurants over the road.
Just a few minutes walk and we were at Senso-ji . . . my favourite place! The walk by the Sumida river was lovely - especially with all the Cherry Blossoms - thanks to Miyuki for the tip.
Dealing with Ben and Yukiko was a joy. They were both incredibly helpful - especially when I had a bit of a panic just before we left - thanks for your patience with me guys!! Directions to the apartment were perfect and we found it straight away. There were also loads of leaflets and information in the apartment which were also helpful.
The apartment itself is very comfy, very welcoming and had everything we needed. The kitchen was great to use when we bought takeaway from the store over the road. The washer was also very handy and the shower room was lush! The free wifi was also very useful.
The apartment helped make our holiday - and when we return (and we will), we will definitely be staying at the Retro Tokyo.
Thank you Ben, Yukiko and Miyuki for an incredible week - we loved your apartment and hope to be back very soon (I miss our view of the asahi 'Bean') -

Retro Tokyo was a welcome sight after navigating our way from Narita airport - bit of a culture shock too! Lots of people as we arrived in the begining of Golden week. We found the apartment to be very well supplied, with some supplies available to use. There is a convenience store across the road for top up purchases and a good bakery too.
The neighborhood is great for exploring on foot, the subways are easy to get around on and it is only a short walk over the bridge to get to them. The new Matsuya store has a fantastic food hall- perfect for foodies to explore. We did most of our food shopping there.
We really enjoyed staying in the apartment, it really is a home away from home and I was sad to leave. It is a perfect base to explore from. Miyuki checked we had arrived ok and we were only a phone call away if there was a problem. The wifi worked great as did all the other appliances.
We highly recommend staying here if it is your first visit to Japan, we found it to be just out of the rush and bustle of Tokyo.

We stayed in this apartment for 5 nights. It was very clean, secure and well set-up. Bakery and convenience store across the road and just 2 mins walk from trains. We were very well looked after and enjoyed our stay here. The only negative is there is quite a bit of street noise especially from the garbage removal vans which seem to run most mornings.

Left on 01/02/2012 for a stay in December 2011
The apartment is a short walk to the river, the subway, lots of restaurants, the Tokyo Cruises dock and the old temple. It's also across the street from a convenience store and excellent bakery, which made breakfasts easier. We appreciated having a clothes washer, which allowed us to pack less clothing.
Directions to the apartment were excellent, and it was clean and in good shape.
The heating was from a space heater; in winter, some guests might find the apartment a bit chilly, but we didn't mind because we were out sightseeing most of the time and, in any case, tend to keep our own home in NJ at around 65 degrees all winter. -

Fantastic alternative to hotel stays if you are interested in experiencing everyday Tokyo. The location is convenient to metro lines and sights. The flat is small but comfortable and thoughtfully appointed and cared for. Housekeeping was superb and welcoming. We were a family of four and enjoyed staying there for four days. The nearby areas are lately getting known as up-and-coming arts districts with galleries and shops popping up.

Our family rented Retro Tokyo for 8 nights while in Tokyo for a holiday. The location was great! Close to the asakusa Station, across from the asahi Beer Hall and several great restaurants and sites in asakusa. Reservation and check-in was easy and the instructions we received were very thorough. The apartment proper was great. Plenty of space for a family of four (for Japan) and very well appointed. There was all the cookware you'd typicall need, Tv/DVD , wi-fi connection (super helpful), etc. The washer and dryer were a big highlight as it meant we could bring fewer close and do a load of laundry. Everything was very nice, tidy and clean when we arrived. Ben and Yuki were extremely organized and helpful through the reservation process and helping us find the place at check in. Would highly recommend Retro Tokyo for anyone who'd like to try and alternative to a hotel or who is looking for a place where you can cook a few meals at home and have some extra space to relax. Thanks Ben and Yuki, if we come back we're definitely staying here again. -- Family from Seattle, USa

Compact but comfortable apartment suitable for up to 2 people (2 single beds which we pushed together). Very close to convenience store and some great restaurants, and walking distance to major sites. Free wireless internet access and use of bicycles was a bonus. Only negative is that it's located acrosss the road from the fire station which can be a bit noisy day and night, but I would still stay there again.
