Description from the manager
On a tranquil rural lane, deep in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, this charming traditional cottage was originally the local blacksmith’s and has been sympathetically modernised to a high standard, while retaining the original character and atmosphere. Enjoying open views south over the surrounding countryside, there is a large enclosed garden with seating, barbecue and a small pond. A substantial outhouse provides secure storage for sports equipment etc and has a full size tennis table. Due to the pond and steep stair, care is required with small children and the upstairs rooms are unsuitable for guests with limited mobility...Read more

BlaydonA fantastic week.
Left on 11/03/2012 for a stay in October 2012
The service was excellent, especially as we had booked in the wrong dates and they still were able to accommodate us. The cottage was very sweet and homely with comfy beds, endless hot water from a back burner, a record player and great booksand games. The location was peaceful and relaxing with lots of lovely walks in the hills nearby. The neighbours were really friendly, there was loads of fuel and best of all the chippy comes to tomintoul on Tuesdays. Old or less mobile people could find the house a problem with a lack of proper dining chairs( stools) and steep staircase and a few extra plastic bowls for cooking wouldn't come amiss. The hills are quite gentle in this immediate area, child friendly rather than extreme, but we thought it was fantastic.

BlairgowrieGreat location, the house was a let down
Left on 09/02/2012 for a stay in July 2012
House is in a great loctaion but is poorly equiped and was not particularly clean. Much of the limited storage in the house was taken up by the owners belongings.
The kitchen was poorly equiped with some very old cutlerly and the grill was filthy when we arrived.
There were not four proper dining chairs or space for four to sit in the living room and the TV reception was very poor.
So all in all we were very disappointed having stayed in a far superior similarly priced property the week previously.Response from Mackay's Agency - 01/10/2013

We appreciate all the comments received following our first year of letting our cottage in the countryside. Where possible we have hopefully addressed these points, whilst retaining the charm and character of the property. We hope that others will come and enjoy this lovely part of the world. LondonCosy cottage away from it all
Left on 06/27/2012 for a stay in June 2012
Really enjoyed our short stay when I stayed with my
family.The cottage is well equipped.
The kids enjoyed the full size tennis table in the out house.
Its fairly remote which makes it lovely and quiet.
Tomintoul shops are 10 mins by car.
Lovely views over buttercup fields.
Cosy and warm, lots of wall heaters ( and a coal fire we didnt need ).
Kitchen and bathroom decor is a little tired which might
bother someone more fussy than us. Lights in the outhouse
needed batteries which made it a bit dark.
