Description from the manager

Unforgettable blue ocean views with a lovely sunset each evening are yours at this impressive property. A road winds up into the breezy, green hills of Tortola's south coast to this stunning villa and to one of the island's most magnificent seascapes.

Toa Toa is built as five pavilions arranged around the dramatic pool set in a sunny deck. Three pavilions border the pool deck: the central great room offers a convenient wet bar, all media, and two plush sofas for lounging; eclectic teak pieces and a variety of accessories gathered from world travels accent this living area.

On one end of the pool deck is the alfresco dining area in...Read more

The Views are incredible, Great Teenage Vacation Home

Left on 07/20/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We were planning our 25th anniversary trip to Hawaii this summer, but couldn’t get our arms around the planning needed to travel 4 time zones and see the sights. A last minute offer to stay with friends at the Toa Toa House in Tortola left us feeling that we made the right decision, saved time, saved money and connected with some adventures that would have cost triple what we paid in the British Virgin Islands. Please read the pros and cons carefully, as this beautiful villa is not for small children or for anyone who cannot climb 4-6 stories of stairs daily.

I will sort out the pros and cons from my perspective:

day sailing pro: The South african Day Sailing crew out of Soopers Hole called voyage yachts (WWW.Voyageyachts.com) is outstanding and well worth the $60-75 pp cost...we went to the Baths and the 4 Indians on two separate trips and I will post photos...this part of our trip beat anything we could have done in the Keys or in Hawaii or anywhere else...thoroughly peaceful, comfortable and enjoyable on new boats...I would consider sailing for a week with these folks.

Pros: Tortola is closer to FL by 8 or more hours, and flights at $500 pp are half of what it would cost us to fly to Hawaii. Staying with friends who know the island helped, and we found that the island was in much better condition than when we visited it 25 years ago on our honeymooon. 4 of the Rooms had air-conditioning (which was needed most evenings and not needed in the mornings when the cool breezes are flow. We would return again to this location or to other local resorts rated highly at Tripadvisor. The views are outstanding

access cons: Flying in around 4:15 to St. Thomas seemingly saved our family $1000 by flying direct to Beef Island, Tortola until we discovered that the taxi and ferry to get from St. Thomas to Tortola was over $650!!! Most people see there is a ferry for $50 pp round trip however most tourists don’t realize that the last ferry is around 4:15 and they are stuck in St. John for a night or must pay the extensive taxi fee...after taking a 10 minute taxi ride, the 7 of us were suprised to be charged $135 plus $500 for the boat ride. If you are planning a trip to Tortola, fly directly there...you won’t save money by flying into St. Thomas.

Vila cons: If you are handicapped in any way or if you have small children, this villa is not for you. The villa is 500 feet in the air and accessible only by 4 wheel drive vehicles that can climb very very very steep hills. Then you must climb between 20-47 steep stairs to get to the various villas that are connected only by stairs. If you do not want to climb stairs, do not rent this unit. Architecturally, this villa does not meet code for railings that could keep a child from falling off the cliff, so if you have a child who go over the edge, this villa is not for you. Additionally, one of the master guest villas is not air conditioned and can be very warm at night...so only 3 guest rooms have a/C.

I hope that you find this review helpful and would recommend if this is your first trip to Tortola that you stay in one of the top trip advisor villas first, and check out any houses you might wish to rent in person, so that you know you made the right decision. Remember that driving in the islands is tricky on the left side and on steep hills that would not be permissable in the us. Best wishes and I hope I have covered items that you might not have thought of.

Our Stay at Toa Toa House

Left on 07/08/2010 for a stay in May 2010

This villa has a a great pool deck area. It is a very private setting, high above the west end. It is well maintained and even has a pool table room. The outdoor dining area is great. The views are unbeatable but the access road is not for the timid.
