Another great visit to a beautiful house in a unique location

Left on 05/17/2013 for a stay in May 2013

With warm memories of our stay here last year, we returned to the gite in Mervilla. The comfort and seeming remoteness of the location belie the fact that within a five minute drive is a thriving town with all the shops you could want and an excellent restaurant with wonderful, food and service. This time, we made new discoveries. We learned that it is only a five minute drive to an excellent supermarket and a couple of big box stores and a relatively short drive to a shopping mall with a Carrefour hypermarket,a couple of hair salons, clothing and other stores at different price points. Also nearby is an Imax Cinema/movie theater.
While it is only an 8-10 minute drive to a Toulouse subway station, we also learned that we could drive into Toulouse in about 15 minutes and find inexpensive parking. Toulouse is a charming city with wonderful little streets to explore and much to discover. There is a space museum nearby and much to see and explore on foot. An hour away is albi with a Toulouse Lautrec museum housed in a beautiful chateau.

The gite is a peaceful oasis to return to after a day in the city. When the weather permits, the mountain views are spectacular. This time we hiked around the gite for an hour or two at a time. On a rainy day, in Castanet is a large sports center with every kind of exercise and class as well as a pool.

As for the gite, it is easy to feel at home with the very well equipped modern kitchen and spacious living dining areas. This time, unlike the first time, we rented linens and had large thick bath sheets and towels and quality bed sheets with a very comfortable and fluffy duvet. The master bed is comfortable for a rental.

The owners who live next door are discrete and are available whenever needed for advice or help. Liliane who takes immaculate care of the rental property speaks good English.
In summary, this is a quiet, seemingly isolated gite with everything you could want just minutes away.

      Wonderful gite, very well equipped

Left on 04/14/2013 for a stay in February 2013

My family stayed in Loubet's Gite for 8 nights. We were visiting my daughter while she was doing a school exchange in a nearby village. The Gite has been beautifully restored and is very well equipped, including laundry facilities which we appreciated. We stayed during the winter and the Gite was well heated. Loubet was very helpful and accomodating of our requirements. The location is very quiet and has lovely views to the Pyreness. I would not hesitate to recommend this property for a family. We look forward to returning again in the future.

Wonderful house in a lovely place

Left on 11/10/2012 for a stay in October 2012

We arranged to stay here for a week whilst visiting family in the area. It is inly a few minutes by car from supermarkets and the local town where you can pick up all your essentials (along with some lovely chocolates).

20 easy minutes by car into Toulouse itself and close to major routes to get to all major local attractions.

A lovely base, the area is secluded so you can let the kids wander, the gites is south facing so gets the best of the sunshine (20 degrees C in October!) and you can see the pyrenees in the distance.

The gites itself is fantastic. Really well done out in the last year or so with every amenity you require. The quality fo finish is very high with climate control and electric blinds and other modern technology.

The owners live close by and could not do enough to ensure the comfort of our stay. They were also very flexible given we had an early set off on our final day.

Would recommend to anyone who wants a lovely piece of the french countryside whilst being close to the joys that Toulouse adn the surrounding area has to offer.

Finally, would recommend a trip to Carcassonne with kids. It's a great place to have a wander around and a bite to eat. It is aimed at tourists but so what, its great fun!

      Idyllic setting and amazing hosts

Left on 11/02/2012 for a stay in October 2012

Stayed here for a week with my best friend for a girl's week, and we were never at a loss of things to do. The location was central enough to visit not only Toulouse, but the Pyrenees, Auch, Albi, Rochamadour and a few memorable jewels of villages that we found by accident. We walked paths that lead from the front door and are part of the Compostela network. The hosts were gracious and helpful and the accommodations were immaculate, roomy and fully furnished. The straight-on view of those mesmerizing Pyrenees was a calendar shot. The little 13th-century church next door plays an enchanting melody at evening. I would go back, and have no qualms about suggesting this location and these hosts to anyone.

A spacious gem of a house with a large yard in an idyllic settin

Left on 05/19/2012 for a stay in May 2012

A gem located in an idyllic setting with sweeping views over wheat fields to the snow capped Pyrenees mountains miles away! An extremely restful, very tastefully renovated barn with modern furnishings juxtaposed with original beams, cathedral ceilings, a spiral staircase and a centuries old wall with stones intermingled with bricks with stunning effect.

The gite has two floors and is very airy and spacious with a well equipped, beautiful modern kitchen, two comfortable bedrooms with views and a very spacious bathroom with two sinks and a large shower.

The living, dining, kitchen area opens out onto a large terrace with a large teak table with chairs and a full size barbecue. We ate most of our meals on the terrace admiring the gorgeous view.

The delightful hosts are Liliane and Denis Loubet. Liliane, an extremely warm and gracious couple. Denis is an intellectual wheat and rapeseed farmer and very interesting to talk to if you are lucky enough to catch him when he is not in the fields.

Liliane who manages the gites full time and is a talented interior designer as is evidenced by the gite, her home and the second private gite on the other side of the property which we saw. The gite is stocked with all kinds of adult and children's books in French and some in English. The books included the history of the region and pastels as well as novels, etc.

The living area includes a flat screen tv which allowed us to watch the spirited French Presidential debates.

The gite is located in a village of about 250 inhabitants and is a stone's throw from the village town hall and a 13th century church.
Within a couple of minutes' walk are miles of great, marked hiking and biking(if you like hilly terrain) trails that wind through the beautiful countryside.

A short 5-8 minute drive away is the town of Castanet Tolosans with a couple of great wine shops where you can buy wine in bottle or from cask, two smaller but well stocked supermarkets, cafes, at least three excellent artisanal bakeries, banks and any other shops you would want on a daily basis. There is a great large supermarket in town and others a short drive away. In Castanet there is also a large health club with pool which I hope to visit during our next, longer stay.

Once a week,on Tuesdays, there is a good sized open air market with all kinds of produce including organic produce vendors, meats, cheeses and even clothes and other goods.

Within five minutes from the center of Castanet is the Canal du Midi, a canal that runs between the atlantic and the Mediterranean with walking paths on both sides also good for biking on flatter terrain than next to the gite. You can walk or bike for as long as you want for miles.

Given the beautiful setting of the gite, it is a bit surprising that within a ten minute drive is a subway station with parking to take you into the center of Toulouse with beautiful parks
and squares and much to see and do.

Liliane told us about a chocolate shop in Castanet run by one of the top 40 chocolate makers in France and an excellent restaurant on the level of some of the best restaurants in New York but at a more reasonable cost with a fixed price menu at 30 Euros a person. With excellent wine and service, a three course meal came to about $110 for two. Of course, there are good cheaper offerings in the area as well.

We are already planning to return next year for a longer stay.

      Wonderful gite, panoramic view

Left on 02/06/2012 for a stay in December 2011

Le "Souleilha" is a newly reconstructed two bedreoom, two bath home with a super modern kitchen, with superb heating and great insulation, that was originally a barn constructed of brick and stone maybe 200 years ago. Thus, it has the outer appearance of a Gite but the inner comforts of a modern home. The Gite is sited on a plateau overlooking farms below, the Pyrenees in the distance to the South and next door to a very old church.

The reconstructed Gite was just completed in august 2011 and everything was done with great attention to detail and good taste, featuring simple, clean lines. For those who have experienced old french homes with rudimentary toilets, and creaky heating and hot water systems, the Souleilha was a delight.

Workin with Liliane Loubet was a pleasure as she answered all of our emailed questions very rapidly, and helped us to make the deposit and final payment in dollars, converted to Euros, as easy as possible, given that international payments systems do not work easily for travelers. She also included in the rental a cell phone as well as more adequate bed linens, bath towels, and kitchen towels. The kitchen features a large refrigerator and freezer, micro-wave, new stove top and large oven, a dishwasher and every conceivable pot and pan plus china and silver ware. We were so well equipped that we hosted 14 family members for dinner.

The Loubets, our hosts, were charming and gracious and very informative while at the same time very respectul of our privacy. They can guide you to whatever you may want or need and they have provided ample materials in a bookcase in the Gite about dining, hiking, visiting wineries etc..for your ready reference.

We have family and friends in the Toulouse area and we will return to Le Souleilha to enjoy its comforts, convenience (only 12 km from Toulouse) and beautiful views, as well as the Loubets in the future.

      French countryside living

Left on 01/25/2012 for a stay in January 2012

Liliane and her family were welcoming hosts for our stay in the newer of the two gites. It is spotlessly clean and has a well-equipped kitchen and spacious bathroom. A washing machine is also available. The mezzanine level has two bedrooms and desk for internet connection (wired). We slept five comfortably. There is a DVD and flat screen TV as well as outdoor entertaining area.
The gite is on Liliane and Denis' farm and the outlook across the green fields to the Pyrenees is superb. There is plenty of access for a car and a local free shuttle can be arranged to take you to and from Ramonville where it is a 15 minute metro trip to central Toulouse.
The location is very quiet, but accessible to all services both local and in Toulouse.
Thank you Liliane, and we hope to see you again some time!

The most comfortable and well appointed gite that we have rented

Left on 11/29/2011 for a stay in September 2011

The reception is first class and the gite is extemely well appointed. The salon/kichen is large and airy with air conditioning. The kitchen area is very well equipped but does not encroach on the sitting area.
The bedrooms are spacious and tastefully furnished. The bathroom is very modern and the additional downstairs loo is very useful. The views of the Pyrenees from the terrace are spectacular. The gite is in a very quiet location in the country about 20 minutes from Toulouse and 5 minutes from amenities. The best thing for us is the tranquility and the trouble free accommodation.

Serenity and panomaric views in Southwestern France

Left on 10/11/2011 for a stay in September 2011

Country life in the serenity of the Lauragais rolling hills - yet, just few minutes from downtown Toulouse. A perfect combination of modern amenities and genuine country charm: beautiful Southwestern architecture and decor, natural light from bay windows on both floors, large fully equipped kitchen, laundry room and ample storage space, WiFi access, magnificent views of the Pyrenees mountains, and perfect patio for outdoor summer living. One of the most comfortable bed we've slept in and largest bathroom we've encountered through our 30 years of travel/lodging in France. The owners are charming but discreet. We loved our stay in this spacious and comfortable gite, its proximity to hiking trails and charming church, and the seasonal changes of the region landscape.

View of the countryside and Pyrenees from Souleilha. September on the Mervilla's trails.
