Welcome to Barukamba, the cozy and colorful hideaway nest of famous Jamaican dub poet Muta Baruka and fashion designer Jackie 'Amba' Cohen.

Barukamba, situated in laid-back Billy's Bay (Treasure Beach - St. Elizabeth), has a unique vibe and architecture. Completely made out of wood, it is built on a rock facing the ocean. The front terrace opens up on one of the most beautiful ocean views in Treasure Beach, while the beach is only 250 meters away.

If you are looking for a real Jamaican living experience, then Barukamba is the perfect spot. We consider our visitors not as tourists, but as our guests. Our friendly st...aff will make your stay as pleasant as possible, without interfering with your privacy.

Our hostess Gaby will assist you with transport to the house, and will welcome you at your arrival. As a long time resident of Billy's Bay and neighbor of the Barukamba house, she will tell you everything about the area: where to shop, eat and drink, how to get to the different beaches, where to find the best spots to mingle with the locals, and much more.

Our Jamaican housekeeper Catherine, living at the bottom of the stairs leading to the Barukamba house, can shop and cook for you (the ingredients have to be paid for, the cooking is free). Guests preferring to do their own cooking can do so in the kitchen of the house.

The Barukamba house consists of:

- 1 master bedroom (36 m2) with a large and comfortable double bed, offering a gorgeous view on the ocean

- 1 mezzanine (9 m2) with a double mattress, the ideal bedroom and playground for kids

- a spacious living room (33 m2) with a colorful ethnic look and feel

- a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, blender, ...) (12 m2), annex bar counter serving as dining table

- a funky bathroom (9 m2), its azure tiles and colored window pane creating an underwater feeling

- a back terrace (28 m2) and private garden (120 m2) with two swings, a sink for doing the laundry, and an outdoor grill for the best of barbecues

- a large front terrace (25 m2) with a 180° view on the ocean during the day, and an amazing view on the stars and the milky way at night

The Barukamba house is the ideal place for relaxing, spending time at the beach, reading or writing a book, enjoying some lovely food, discovering the country side, and integrating yourself into the local community of farmers and fisher men. Far away from the hustle and bustle of some of Jamaica's better known but overdeveloped tourist destinations like Negril or Montego Bay, it is located in one of the few spots on the island that are still left unspoiled.

For those guests wanting more action, we offer hiking tours, bike tours, boat tours, and other excursions. In general we assist our guests with any kind of trip they would like to make, be it a visit to a well known tourist attraction (Appleton rum factory, Pelican Bar, YS falls, the Maroons' Accompong town, ...), or the discovery of a local beauty spot (hike across the reef to Lover's Leap, exploration of the Bluff, ...).

Whichever type of holidays our guests have in mind, we always try to exceed their expectations. And by keeping our rental fee down we offer one of the best price-quality relations in the area.

Our rates are:

high season (December - April) = 80 US$/night for 1 or 2 persons + 25 US$/night for each extra person

low season (May - November) = 60 US$/night for 1 or 2 persons + 25 US$/night for each extra person

Minimum stay is 2 nights. Maximum number of guests is 4.

Prices include accommodation, cleaning, and cooking (done on order by your housekeeper). Tipping the housekeeper is appreciated.

  Perfect stay in Treasure Beach!

  Barukamba is in a word unbelievable. We stayed at this lovely home for 4 days... wish it could have been longer. I already miss everything about it--from the stunning ocean view to the spacious, airy rooms, the plant-filled backyard (complete with swings and a hammock!)--and I can't say enough about our kind, welcoming neighbors.
  
  Hans is a super generous host, and helped us feel right at home and navigate Treasure Beach, not only giving us tips on where to get good ackee & saltfish, but also providing us with an unexpected ride to a nearby town on the last day of our stay. The lovely Sarah, a neighbor and friend of Hans', cooked two of the most delicious meals we had during our entire stay in Jamaica.
  
  Things you should know: Treasure Beach is super safe, laid-back and less touristy than many other parts of Jamaica. If you're thinking you want to unplug, relax and take it slow, you're on the right track. The beaches are gorgeous -- Barukamba is a 5-minute walk to Billy's Bay... which is a lot like having your own private beach -- great for wading, swimming, snorkeling and collecting sea shells. Two other beaches, Calabash Bay and Frenchman's Bay, are a bit further down the road -- we walked to both. And finally, three restaurants definitely worth checking out for meals -- Smurfs for breakfast/brunch, The Likkle Cook Shop for lunch and Strikie's for dinner (order the banana flambe' for dessert. It's served with appleton Rum!).
  
  If and when I return to Treasure Beach, there is nowhere else I want to stay -- Barukamba is perfection!

  This place are so healthy for body and soul. If you need rest, than is Barukamba the first choice, cause you can feel the vibes of peace there. The staff are friendly, lovely and helpfull. A special thanks goes to Sarah and Cathrin. I enjoyed my time there very well, because it was amazing and I will come back soon as possible.
