      Natural Jamaica...

Left on 03/24/2013 for a stay in March 2013

We visited two years ago with our family...and came back! The natural beauty of Treasure Beach is breathtaking. As I said in my last review, "No all inclusives for us!" Thank you again Lyric for a week of relaxation.

      Twelve perfect days

Left on 03/16/2013 for a stay in March 2013

If you like a generic all inclusive experience with air conditioning, manicured beaches, fierce competition for a deck chair and cueing for a buffet then this is definitely not for you.

If you want peace and beauty, authenticity, tender care, great food and real value for your travel dollar - a dollar which actually supports a local economy - then by all means, come to Treasure Beach and the Lyric Villa. Jamaicans themselves will tell you that this is the real Jamaica.

The owner and staff of the Lyric are very experienced and generous hosts. The house itself is absolutely delightful. When we walked in through the charming courtyard and saw the view across the stone patio and pool and out to the fishing village on Calabash Bay and ocean beyond, our shoulders dropped. The living area has a sixties vibe and a good library and wifi. Bedrooms are spacious and pretty with mosquito nets and ceiling fans. The house and stone patio are small but graciously proportioned.

Main activities: Eat. Sleep. Swim. Read. The meals were the main event. Our son spent hours in the pool and we all swam
daily on the beach and particularly enjoyed snorkelling around the coral reefs. We were a five minute walk from Jake's where a person can enjoy a yoga class or massage, a meal or a Thursday night movie if the mood strikes. Other excursions farther afield are available but we didn't feel a need to go anywhere. We were there.
We enjoyed twelve perfect days and returned home rested and happy.

There were no surprise costs, shopping and transportation was arranged for us. There were certainly no disappointments... other than having to leave.

Thank you for your review. We don't advertise to have air conditioning so it shouldn't come as a surprise that there is none. The stone floors are considered by all to be an incredibly charming part of the house. They are over 200 hundred years old and we have no intention of changing them out for modern surfaces. Floors don't breed sandflies, they are a sometimes unpleasant part of tropical living. We are very sorry that Lyric didn't live up to your expectations, but even given our very positive reviews in the past, we realize that we can't please everyone all of the time.

Thank you for you complimentary thoughts about our staff, we are very luck to have them.

      Many thanks.

      Idyllic view and house!

Left on 01/27/2013 for a stay in January 2013

Stayed here with 3 other women...work friends. All loved the comfort of 4 bedrooms, the wonderful cook Polly and helper Treece, every meal was superb! Especially appreciated the conversations with locals, our drivers, and house staff. Recommend boat trip up Black River, YS Falls, strolling the village. Treasure Beach is a long way from the busy tourist areas, but we felt like we saw real Jamaica. No glitches at all in arrangements and mostly due to Rebecca's excellent standards for our comfort! It costs us twice as much to eat at home than at Lyric with cooks! Now, how to get rid of the Pina Colada habit?!

      Great place!

Left on 12/20/2012 for a stay in December 2012

So many places I've stayed at in Jamaica have been busy and noisy. If that's what you're after, don't go to Treasure Beach. The village is small and friendly. The views are specatular. The house was clean and staff are hands down some of the sweetest people I've met. The food was great, the beach was great and the pool was great.
It's a place to go if you want to chill out, read a book, walk the beach and relax. I would suggest anyone go there.
We've already booked again for next year!

I'm reluctant to post about Lyric because this is a one-of-a-kind find. The drive from Montego Bay may not be for everyone, but Lyric is a little paradise. The staff cook two hearty, delicious, fresh meals a day (with desserts to remember!) and are happy to help you get acquainted with the area. The house is clean, spacious and in a very private location. The tranquility of the sound of the ocean is one of my favorite memories. We were here for our honeymoon and would happily go back in an instant.

      Lyric made our honeymoon amazing

Left on 08/31/2012 for a stay in June 2012

What a great time we had. it's been almost 3 months since we were there and we're still longing to get back. We had plans to go on bike rides, and go snorkeling, and hiking, but Lyric is such a comfortable home that we ended up staying in and lounging by the pool, watching the fishing boats in Calabash Bay...which was a welcome change from our normal 90 mile and hour lives. The drives around the island with annabelle were great...the views of the mountains and the little towns along the way and her stories are the best. Polly, Theresa, and Lance, made sure we were comfortable, fat and happy. The meals Polly cooked up were some of the best we'd ever had...chicken, fish, curried goat. If you're looking to get away and feel pampered a little bit don't hesitate, this is the place.

      Lovely Jamaica

Left on 02/16/2012 for a stay in November 2011

We stayed at Lyric last November and had an amazing time. The moment we entered the villa we knew we had made the right choice. Looking at the Caribbean Sea from the living room was simply divine, we were immediately relaxed. Let the vacation begin! Hearing the waves splashing against the shore at night was our lullaby. Polly and Trecia were so amazing, they got everything that we needed, organized our tours. Nothing was a problem.

If you stay here, you should really take a trip to YS Falls, it was just beautiful. The falls are amazing and the vegetation is so lush, it's like you've been transported back in time. The trees are massive at least 6 stories high, just awesome.

While there isn't a beach directly in front of the villa, there is one just off to the left, approximately a five minute walk. The property is just lovely, lots of trees, hammocks and the view is nothing short of spectacular.

If you're looking for nightlife, this is not the place for you, this place is rural, serene and relaxing. This is what I really enjoyed about this trip. It was authentic Jamaica, not a mass produced resort, but a true picture of what Jamaica really is. We will definitely be back!

We had a fabulous time at the Lyric. We enjoyed the pool, the beach, day trip with Silvan, our esteemed driver. Polly and Therese were top notch in the kitchen. Our location was perfect for a stroll to get beers, snacks, an evening cocktail at Jakes, dinner at Jack Sprats, or just hanging out at our wonderful temporary home.

Great staff that serves up delicious local food. The house has ocean and beach views, but is not right on a swimmable beach. There is a decent swimming spot within walking distance just beyond the neighboring fishing beach which boasts two local drinking and card/domino spots. The house itself is designed well and has wonderful stonework throughout, with private bedrooms and a nice sunning area near the central swimming pool. All in all a very quiet, private, beautiful spot worth every penny.

What a wonderful time we had at Lyric! We were all interested to see the South Coast of Jamaica and were very happy we chose this property. Annabelle, Polly, Treecia and Stancil were excellent hosts and made the ride from/to the airport and our stay comfortable. The house is in a nice location overlooking the sea, with an easy route down to the water. We also had an opportunity to meet some real nice folks down by the sea who shared their freshly caught and cooked fish with us; all of the people we encountered in Treasure Beach were very friendly!

Lyric Villa...a gem in Treasure beach

Left on 02/07/2011 for a stay in February 2011

We are innkeepers and were in need of a major getaway!
We were greeted by Polly and Treecia and soon after Mr. Graham and owner annabelle...what a delight each and every one of these people are. The charm of this village and the beauty of our villa was overwhelming and exactly what we were looking for. No all-inclusives for us! Our family of four was happy and at home in Treasure Beach. My only complaint...the 8lbs I put on from the wonderful cooking! Lyric Villa is a must for families and/or families traveling together.

we are in love with lyric villa!

Left on 02/01/2011 for a stay in November 2011

We had the pleasure of a second visit to Lyric this past November into December and once again, it was exactly what we needed for relaxing family time. Polly and Treecia are so wonderful... they are beautiful and smart and loving, always there for us, but manage to make us feel that the house is really ours while we are there. Polly is an amazing chef, my boys (ages 20 and 7) love her cooking and so do I... we prefer Jamaican cuisine and every meal Pollly has prepared for us has been delicious. The house is always kept very clean, it is simple and comfortable. As for the location in Treasure Beach, it cannot be beat... the sound of the waves crashing against the beach is the ultimate in stress relief... the pool is lovely, just the right size and being seaside, it's like a dream Caribbean vacation. There is a lovely little shop for necessities right at the bottom of the driveway, and Jake's and Jack Sprat's are a quick walk down the quiet road for when you feel the need to get out and about for a bit. Treasure Beach is old style, authentic, beautiful, quiet, unspoiled, amazing Jamaica, and Lyric Villa is perfectlly located at Calabash Bay... we plan to come back again and again and are so grateful to the Todds for making their perfect beach house available to us.

      story book perfect! Litterally!!

Left on 07/22/2010 for a stay in December 2009

the house itself is an open air design that makes you feel like you are in one of those on the water bungalow's in tahiti or something. the town is incredibly welcoming it's like they took all the best parts of Jamaica and planted them in treasure beach while taking all of the negative stuff you hear about and sent it packing to kingston or montego bay. even in treasure beach it is drasticly under priced compared to other houses. the beach is very swim friendly as it is protected by a reef it is also quite private considering it is public we almost never saw any other people unlike many parts of the country we were never harassed by vendors the staff keeps them away and you never get bothered. the staff is great the care taker (mr. Graham) loves to tell stories about the good 'ol days and pass on his wisdoom for future generations. the lady of the house (mrs. Polly) is simply amazing she is a magnificent chef and wonderful guide cooks the best authentic food every morning and every night she is very willing and able to please any visitor that stays at this house. we were a little weary about having a full time staff we thought it would be uncomfortable but quite the contrary they are a very efficient staff and take care of everything for you but we found ourselves hanging out with them almost like they were on vacation with us. this is in my opinion the only place to stay and we will certainly return again and again. if there are any downsides it would have been the lack of air conditioning but by day two I realized there is no need for a/C at night the air moves and you will certainly be pulling for blankets so I guess there were no downsides or negatives about the house. Oh and the pool is amazing the children loved it our kids were 2 and 4 and the house, staff, town, and grounds were all perfectly suited for travel with children

Nicely appointed with lots of room to spread out so even with lots of people there, you never feel cramped. Safe for kids and lots of room to run around plus a great beach to walk on. 2 minute walk to Jake's Hotel for drinks or dinner should you feel like another stroll. The housekeeping is impeccable too, with a cornucopia of food every day which is lovingly prepared and oh so delicious. Incredible sunsets, cooler evenings and fall asleep to the sound of waves... perfection.
