Calabash Bay Villa: Perfect for Families & Events!

Family owned and operated Calabash Bay is the home away from home for the Henzell family which includes their two kids, five and three years old respectively. Nothing lights up their eyes then knowing they will be spending time at Calabash Bay and nothing makes their parents happier than knowing they will get to kick back and relax because of the support of the villa's amazing staff in this genuinely warm and welcoming family home.

Built on more than two acres of land, Calabash Bay is actually comprised of two units: one four-bedroom villa and a two-bedroom cottage which can be rented together or separately. The lily pond (home to many... nocturnal frogs) at the entrance of the main house welcomes guests to the spacious living room, a dining room and a sitting area. The airy master bedroom boasts a king-sized, four-poster bamboo bed, and bay-like windows that allow guests a private view of the ocean without having to get out of bed - there is space in this room for an additional cot if necessary. The master bath has a Jacuzzi (which the kids love to bath in!), a walk in "rainer" shower and double sinks. A queen-sized poster bed also made of bamboo graces the second bedroom, which has ocean views as well. This second bedroom has an outdoor walk-in shower and bathtub decorated by Sally Henzell with a colourful mosaic of iridescent purple, pink and yellow tiles, shells, cut stone and bottles set in concrete. Ample closets in both have plenty of space for tiny bikinis, sarongs, T-shirts and flip-flops.

The third bedroom also has a queen-sized bed and mosaic tile shower while the fourth bedroom has two single beds (perfect for the kids), its own tv unit, a large walk-in shower with bathtub option. All have air conditioning and ceiling fans. Outside, a large verandah houses the outdoor living room which with its bamboo day bed begs for lazy afternoons of relaxation while across the freshwater pool the thatched-roof gazebo allows dining with a view of the gorgeous bay. The villa has high chairs and portable cribs (with sheets and mosquito nets) available for use as well as a number of board games and cards. There is also wireless throughout, satellite television, a dvd player (you can borrow dvds from Jakes) and an Ipod docking station.

The second house, Calabash Cottage, has its own kitchenette, air conditioning, fans and a delightful outdoor deck perched off the house into a lignum vitae tree which shelters its own outdoor shower. There is one queen bedroom and one bedroom with two twin beds, both share a bath.

Nestled on a low bluff overlooking the semi private Calabash Bay, the villa is a great home base for beach days: swimming, snorkelling or body surfing, building sand castles or sunbathing on the golden sands. It's also the perfect launch pad for long sunset walks along the many linked coves that make up Treasure Beach as well as boat trips --as the boats can pull right up to shore and take you on any sea based excursion including fishing. Tours can also be arranged with the front desk of Jakes for land excursions to the YS Falls and Appleton Estate Rum Factory. There is also the Treasure Beach Sporks Park a ten minute walk away which has a basketball court, tennis court and children's playground. Visiting kids are always welcomed to join in on Saturday's soccer sessions -- inquire at the front desk for times!

Calabash Bay comes complete with a staff of three: Damian (who lives on property and acts as barbeque star, bartender and general "jack of all trades"), Madge (who will keep you well fed through out your stay) and Beryl (housekeeper and excellent babysitter!) who together will help create memories to last a lifetime. Sample menus are presented to guest upon arrival and there with the help of Madge and Damian grocery lists are created and executed without your moving a muscle! But if you'd like to.... trips can be organized to the local Black River Market and also to see the fisherman bringing in their catch. So sit back, relax and enjoy!

Located just a ten-minute walk from Jake's, guests of Calabash Bay can saunter over and enjoy a sunset drinks at Dougie's or partake of any of its two restaurants - Jakes Country Kitchen and Jack Sprat Seafood and Pizza (which will deliver!). Villa guests also have access to Jakes DVD collection, board games and full service spa - The Driftwood Spa at Jakes. In fact, anything at Jakes can be used, borrowed or charged to their bill, including all your excursions.

With its large lawns and garden areas, Calabash Bay has also become the venue of choice in Treasure Beach to many weddings -- from 50 -150 -- and several birthday parties as well. Our villa, Calabash Bay is family owned and operated, and set on two and half acres of land, in central Treasure Beach, overlooking Calabash Bay itself. Watch pelicans and frigates dance as fishermen bring in their daily catch while swinging in your hammock. Have an adventure on a Black River Safari or take a zip line through the rainforest at YS (water) Falls. Drink a Red Stripe at sunset at the world famous Pelican Bar on the sea or walk over to Dougies at Jakes for his famous rum punch and learn the local lore. Eat the best pizza this side of Italy at Jack Sprat or get messy chowing down a jerked crab at Little Ochie. Have a massage at the Driftwood Spa or steam your troubles away with mystic healer Shirley.   Last year I taught a small yoga retreat in Treasure Beach and we stayed at Calabash Bay Villa. What a gorgeous, relaxing place this is. Between the kind staff, lovely interiors, and the opulence of being on the beach along with having the pool - I can't say enough about this lovely spot. I was crushed not to make it back this year but am already planning on 2014!
