Additional Location Information
Few locations in the United States can compare to the beauty and diversity of Mt. Desert Island (MDI), home to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Acadia Sunset Oceanfront Cottages, including Blue Heron Tide, are detached homes along the oceanfront, facing out to sea on the west side of MDI. MDI itself is easily accessible by bridge – no ferry crossing is required to access this part of Acadia. Green shaded areas on the map are the National Park. You enjoy easy access to the Park and all of its amenities from this location, without having to sleep in the bustle and noise of Bar Harbor itself. Enjoy spectacular sunsets out over the ocean every evening from the luxury and privacy of your own screened-in porch and cozy cottage.

Magnificient Cottage with great water views that never end!
Our recent stay at the Blue Heron Cottage was wonderful. My husband and two college daughters stayed there. The cottage could easily accommodate another family or generations within families. We had every thing we needed. The kitchen was well appointed. The beds were just like home. The views of the water never ended. I only wish our stay was longer, and that we weren't sightseeing so much. Blue Heron was a real haven when the day was over. Close to Southwest Harbor and acadia. I would go again in a heartbeat~Blue Heron is a real find!
Home away from home
Our daughter and her fiancé decided to have their wedding up in Southwest Harbor, me on his grandmother's ocean view property. This was a 5 hour away location and we needed a place to stay for the week to set everything up and be our home away from home!! Finding and staying at the blue heron was a God send!! The house had everything we needed. There was lots of room on the big day for all the girls to get make up, hair and dressed! Plenty of bathrooms and large living, dining area. We can thank the thoughtful inclusion of an iron for all the groomsman including the Groom for having well pressed shirts.. This is a Beautiful clean house with breathtaking views!! I cannot thank Peter and Joy enough for accommodating our needs and letting us share their home to make it a home away from home for our daughter's wedding!! Thanks again!!
Paradise on the quiet side
Our family has rented from the Cutrones on Mount Desert Island for three years, and we have been so pleased with Blue Heron Tide as our destination. The large and spacious house is perfect for a large family, several couples, or families with kids. The setting on Duck Cove on the "quiet side" of MDI is gorgeous, with a rolling green lawn framed by the rocky coastline of Duck Cove. Watching the tide roll in and out, capped off by beautiful acadia sunsets, makes for a truly remarkable experience. We have found all amenities in the cottage perfect for a few days or week-long stay. Everything is always clean and neat upon arrival, all furniture and rugs in very good condition. The kitchen layout is spacious and the large family dining room is great for hours of togetherness and eating! The kids love the downstairs ping pong table and a place to "hang out" away from the adults. All of this combined with the excellent communication and helpfulness of the Cutrones guarantees that we will be back!

We've rented a great many vacation homes over the decades. It was the consensus of my family that this was the best. Great location. Very comfortable, well-equipped & furnished house.

Calming cove with beautiful sunsets
Thank you for allowing us to stay and enjoy your beautiful home. We were pleasantly surprised with the house layout and large amount of space. No matter the weather, we enjoyed the views of Duck Cove. The low tides allowed us to search for sea glass. We loved that we could just put our kayaks in right outside the door. After long days exploring the trails of acadia Park we looked forward to relaxing at your home.We have been renting on MDI for over 12 yrs and this home is certainly one of the best we have rented due to our family size and the availability of water access. Our family had no complaints and we highly recommend Blue Heron Tide as your home away from home while visiting acadia National Park and all of MDI!

Thank you very much for sharing your experience. We're so happy you were able to enjoy the water and the shore, and that the house was well suited to your family. Great!

glorious property and wonderful stay in Maine
Thank you Joy and Peter for making our stay perfect! The property is just amazing and the house perfect for families. On the "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island but still with easy access to acadia and Bar Harbor. Plenty of space for the kids and adults to split off and not be on top of each other, a bathroom linked to every bedroom, a fully stocked kitchen- perfect for our two families (3 adults and 5 kids aged 10-13). The views from the house are stunning. We plan to return next summer!!!
Gerat Place to Stay
This cottage is on the quiet side of MDI. It is a great place to stay. Far enough away from all the hustle and bustle to give you quiet peaceful evenings, yet close enough to enjoy all the island has to give. The cottage had plenty of room for our party of six. All the conviences of home. I would gladly reccommend this cottage to anyone considering a trip to acadia. Absolutely awesome!
Response from Joy & Peter Cutrone - 07/18/2012
Thanks Cliff! That's exactly our hope - convenient to everything, yet a bit of peaceful sanctuary from any hustle and bustle. We hope to welcome you back next time your plans bring you to Acadia!
A relaxing stay at a beautiful Maine cottage.
Blue Heron Tide is the perfect rental cottage for those who like a clean, comfortable home on the "quiet side" of the island. The views are beautiful and the many windows afford you every opportunity to enjoy them. True to it's name,we watched blue herons, along with other shore birds, everyday. It was the perfect home base from which to explore Mt.Desert Island. The owners provide many games and books, plus information about the activities available on the island. They are wonderful to deal with and we are looking forward to returning to Blue Heron Tide cottage.
Response from Joy & Peter Cutrone - 04/04/2012
Thank you, Wendy. We look forward to welcoming you back as well. We very much enjoy it when our guests enjoy the property as much as we do. So glad the herons visited, too!
Perfect vacation rental for a family or group
I have rented this house three times, three different years. Twice in October and once in august. It is a wonderful house with pelenty of indoor and outdoor space. The kitchen/dining/living area is perfect for having a group get together to prepare a meal. The front porch with great views a perfect place for your morning coffee. The location will enable you to take advantage of all of the wonderful acadia activities (hiking, swimming, biking, kayaking, going out to restaraunts) and you do not need to deal with Bar Harbor. It is all available form the quites side of the island.
Beautiful location, comfortable home
Blue Heron Tide is ideally situated on a quiet cove on the "quiet side" of Mt. Desert Island. The view from every room in the house is spectacular. Furnishings are comfortable and cozy, everything you need is provided. The privacy, setting, and comfort of this house provide a true "home away from home" experience. The owners are prompt, efficient, and very friendly.

One of the best vacations
Joy and Peter were extremely heplful and flexible in accomodating our needs - we have changed our minds on number of days we wanted to stay and they were fine with that.
They send us very detailed directions to the house and instructions on how to get in, amenities, etc.
The house has an amazing location and veiws are breathtaking.
It was very important to all of us that house was squeaky clean with well equipped kitchen
So lovely and comfortable!
The cottage has beautiful views and is very comfortable and inviting. Everything is easy and smooth; very quiet and relaxing. It is far from the crowds of Bar Harbor; there are, however, nice restaurants and shops on the "quiet side" of the island. If you want night life, stay in Bar Harbor; if you want a relaxing and quiet vacation "away from it all," this is the place! There are nice hikes nearby as well.
