Description from the owner
Casa Mauri is a three bedroom traditional Catalan farmhouse ( plus two 2 bedroom apartments all of which can be linked together, larger groups please contact the owner). With a picturesque shared walled courtyard at its centre it has private access to both properties. The apartments are situated in the rustic village of Santa Engracia above the town of Tremp.
The Rough Guide to the Pyrenees describes Santa Engracia as ‘surely the most spectacularly set village in Catalunya’. Casa Mauri is impressively situated on a rocky outcrop 1000m above the town of Tremp, providing magnificent views of mountains and lakes and has been renovated...Read more

Additional Location Information
Santa Engracia is situated in the Low Pyrenees above the town of Tremp and the two lakes Terradets and St Antoni. At 1000m it is surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery and there is swimming and watersports in the nearby lakes. Other sports are available nearby which include white water rafting, quad biking, riding, climbing, hang gliding, mountain biking as well as bird watching and all the varied wildlife to see. The house overlooks the Terradets gorge where there is some of the best sport climbing in the world. Staying in Santa Engracia at a higher altitude enables visitors to be above the mist that frequently covers the valley bottoms in winter.
There are walks from the village to the surrounding hills with fabulous views towrds the High Pyrenees. The national park is approximately one hour and 20 mins drive away in the High Pyrenees. There is skiing here in the winter months also.
Parking is available in the village, access to the house being a paved road of about 300m at a slight incline. Luggage can be transported to the house by quad bike.
The nearest airports are Barcelona and Reus with an excellent road system to Tremp. From the exit off the main road there is a 15 minute drive up a tarmaced road to Santa Engracia village. Car hire is essential. The owner lives on site if any advise is required whilst staying here.

The price for the Penthouse is the same as for the cottage.

We stayed 2 weeks in November, and had perfect weather for walking and biking. Sunny, not too hot, dry! Lovely walks straight from the door, saw crossbills nearby. The house was comfortable and had everything we needed. Jane was helpful and friendly.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in the Penthouse apartment. Not only did the accommodation exceed our expectations in terms of facilities but the stunning views afforded by the spectacular position made it all the more memorable.
The apartment was exceptionally well appointed and very comfortable - the terrace overlooking the Teradetts valley is a great spot to catch the early morning sun.
We will certainly return and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to friends.

We stayed at the farmhouse in January, only for 3 nights because it was booked. The location is spectacular and the farmhouse is amazing and beautiful and comfortable. Can't be the views either. We came for climbing and were not disappointed. We love this place so much we are going back tomorrow, this time for a week. And we hope to go back again in March/April (if it's not booked). If you're looking for a great place to stay you will love it here.

Jane's property is is in a truely stunning location, on top of a rock with great views of the Pyrenees. In the morning you will think you are in the clouds - you are in the sunshine while the nearby town of Temp and valleys are covered in mist beneath you.
Its great for bird watchers with vultures and eagles flying past your window.
The property was clean and tidy and Jane very helpful. -

Left on 09/24/2012 for a stay in March 2012
This is a stunning place to stay in a great location. Perfect for people who like the outdoors especially walkers and climbers. Situated in the quiet little village of Santa Engracia high up on the hill side, it is ideal for people who want a little peace and to get away from it all.
We had a lovely stay while we were there and Jane, the owner, was very welcoming. She came to meet us when we arrived in the village to show us to our cottage which made it very easy. It was very clean and tidy with everything you could ask for in a self catering villa. I'm sure I'll be visiting this area of Spain again staying at this location everytime I do. -

NottinghamFantastic Holiday
Left on 09/19/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We booked our stay at quite short notice after finding this place on the internet and Jane was really accommodating. I mentioned that we would like to do some cycling and Jane had got in touch with a local bike shop to arrange bike hire for us before we arrived. Jane offered lots of advice on walks in the area and even got us a discount on white water rafting.
4 of us stayed in the farmhouse (2 couples) but it could have easily accommodated more. The farmhouse is well equipped with modern furniture and appliances but still maintains it's rustic charm. Our favorite part was our private patio area where we had bbq's in the evening whilst watching the sun set. Also the local wine is tasty and unbelievably cheap!
Santa Engracia really has to be seen to be believed. The whole town is perched on a rock outcrop looking out to the Pyrenees mountains. The drive to the village is 10k from the main road and has quite a few hairpin bends but afer a few trips we were driving up and down like the locals :) The town of Tremp is about 20 minutes drive away and has a few nice places to eat/drink as well as a large supermarket.
We really liked the walks around the town, and the national park is well worth a visit. However, our favourite day was white water rafting with a local company.
Would love to come back to try some climbing!

Left on 09/13/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We stayed in Casa Muria for a week at end of august. Just perfect holiday spot for us. Weather was just about right to explore the region on few walks, with breath taking scenery and wild life. To cool down, the 2 lakes only 10 minutes drive to take a dip and soak up the sun. Great restaurants around with local Catalan food to try.
Jane is great hostess, she met us at the village and showed us to the cottage, which is beautifully renovated with all modern facilities but kept the original charm of locally built look retained. The photos doesn't give it justice. The view from the cottage is a joy. The peacefulness of the village is perfect for a relaxing evening. We had a great week. Thank you Jane. -

Left on 08/15/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We are a family of five (children aged 11,9 and 7) and had a wonderful week staying in Casa Mauri Farmhouse. Jane was a welcoming and friendly host - always on hand for advice and recommendations. We would certainly recommend it to those who enjoy the great outdoors.
The accommodation was stylish, comfortable and clean and the balcony with its stunning views was a real highlight. We enjoyed barbecues in the courtyard and played cards overlooking the mountains, with vultures swooping past. The table football/pool table was a hit with the children.
The area is beautiful with stunning scenery. We enjoyed several walks from the door and swam and hired pedalos on the nearby lake. A trip up to the national park and family white water rafting at Sort were particularly memorable. It felt a bit like a Lake District holiday, but much hotter and considerably less crowded. The weather was ideal - hot (high twenties) but with a slight breeze.
It was our first holiday in Spain, and we found everyone friendly and welcoming and the food was excellent. We had a few days before our stay in Casa Mauri in Barcelona which was also great fun. The combination of city sightseeing followed by rural retreat can be highly recommended.

It was perfect walking weather during our stay and we thoroughly enjoyed the variety of treks on offer from the farmhouse. Beautiful spot and lots to do. The farmhouse is well equipped and having a wood burning stove is a definite plus. The host is kind and welcoming. She has a quad bike to help with transportation of luggage as there is no access by car to the house.

Left on 08/03/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Staying at Casa Mauri was very special. We spent hours on the balcony enjoying the spectacular views of the mountains and the old church next door. And on some evenings we were lucky enough to see one of the eagles that nest in the nearby cliffs. The house is in a village perched more than 1000 metres above sea level and with an authentic feel of old Catalonia. There are many interesting walks from the village itself but it is also easy to visit the national park of aigüestortes and the wonderful romanesque churches in the Vall de Boi. The cottage itself is in character with the village, and we immediately felt at home, not least because of Jane's warm welcome and enthusiasm. We hope that we will be able to make a return visit because our two weeks were by no means enough to exhaust the charm and interest of the place.

Jane was a perfect chatelaine.
The house was immaculate, comfortable and comes with stunning views.
There was plenty of space (we were there as a party of 6), and the beds were very comfortable. The photos do not do the house justice.
With the remoteness comes peace and tranquility - perfect chill out place, should you choose not to explore some of the fantastic local walks, or the lake etc. It was very warm, but it was to be expected and we adjusted our days to suit.
We left in a quandry - when will we be able to return to Casa Mauri. -

Excellent services, never too much bother for Jane to resolve any queries. Jane was always only too willing to assist in giving information on local attractions, restaurants etc.
Very spaciuos, comfortable beds, authantically Old Spain. Everything was there that was needed and more.
Wonderfully located in a small village high on a rock. With local resident Spanish. Great views. Tremp, the local town, not too far away (20 minutes). Good supermarket and shopping facilities. A great area for walking and absorbing the local history.
We liked best the peaceful location and chilling out on the veranda

A few of us have stayed here twice over the past couple of years and without exception are all quite honestly in love with the place.
The location is stunning and the farmhouse is perfect for groups of active people to base themselves. Communal living is easy with plenty of space indoors and outdoors, and every bedroom is clean and modern. There are a range of properties, all linked to the courtyard so almost any size group can be accomodated, from two to twelve or more.
We all spend our days climbing on the many world class crags that are within easy reach, but the area contains fantastic walking and touring too. Rest days are usually spent lounging on one of the balconies - what a tough life!
Definitely a special place that is made perfect by the warm welcome from the owner. -
