As the summer of 2012 was coming to a close my Wife and I decided to take our two daughters (9 & 13) up to the acadia region of Maine for a weeks vacation. I found John & Teresa's "Day Cottage" on Tripadvisor and was immediately interested from the photos and positive reviews. Upon our arrival we couldn't have been more impressed with the condition of the cottage and the beautiful views of the water and surrounding woods. The cottage itself was immaculate with everything (and I mean everything) you could imagine for enjoying your stay. The "thought out" way in which all aspects of the cottage were arranged showed the love and care that John and Teresa have for this home.
The cottage is about 20 minutes outside of acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Our days were spent kayaking & swimming in the mornings(water was plenty warm enough), exploring acadia during the day, lobster diners, drinks by the fireplace and finally falling to sleep on the day beds on the screened in porch listening to the birds and the waves. We were fortunate to catch a great week of warm weather which really allowed us to take full advantage of the area.
The entire experience was a "home run", our kids are already asking about when we can go back. As you can tell we had a blast and I can't see how anyone could go wrong with staying at this home and in this part of the country. -

My friends and I stayed in the Day Cottage in early fall and took advantage of the varied amenities including a pre-laid fire and the outdoor living area on the wrap-around porch. It was a peaceful getaway, with comfortable beds and a full kitchen with 6 kinds of vinegar (that really impressed). The lawn was immaculate as was the interior of the cottage, a spacious well-appointed home-away-from-home.

Wonderful place to stay close to MDI and all that acadia Park has to offer. The screened in porch was a fantastic reprieve after a busy day venturing about. My girls scoured the beach every evening for new and exciting sea life. We used the kayaks daily and one day had a pair or porpoises playing around us. Teresa does an excellent job of catering to the needs of each individual family. The day cottage was exceptionally clean and well taken care of. Sleeping accommodations for up to 10 people, however there is only one bathroom. Our family had a wonderful week at the Day Cottage.

The "Day Cottage” was a perfect place for our family to stay. The Lynch Family did a nice job preparing the house specifically for our needs. Upon our arrival, our young and active boys, ages 3 & 5, spotted an excavator and dump truck. They managed to play with them all week in a small stone sitting area outside the kitchen window, which was perfect while I was prepping dinner. Most days we woke up, ate a simple breakfast and left for an exciting day on MDI. Then we would come home around dinner time and relax. In the evening, the boys would settle down with a movie, which were provided and age appropriate, then head to bed. Our sleeping accommodations couldn't have been better. The boys slept on the screened in porch listening to the waves, which allowed them to drift off quickly. My husband and I sleep in a wonderful king size bed on the first floor with a window that gave us a perfect view of our children. I was grateful that there was a washing machine and dryer after our daily excursions. The house had everything that we needed, from spices to Band-Aids! We travel every year to a National Park. It is our hopes that we can find something like this every where we travel. Thank you for a lovely and perfect week!

My husband, daughter and I had a great vacation at Day Cottage. The beach front was a delightful place for long walks and rock climbing. Everyday we walked, looked for interesting stones and observed the many things that washed up from the ocean. The screened-in porch was unbelievably pleasant and comfortable. Many hours were spent on the porch, including candle-lite dinners, afternoon tea, reading and just relaxing with conversation. The house was very comfortable and clean with laundry facilities (thank heaven because my daughter kept exploring into the water with her clothes on). The kitchen was well supplied. Given that we eat lots of fresh veggies and fruit, we bought at the cheese at the goat farm, vegetables at farmers market and the rest at the grocery store and heallth food store just 15 minutes away. We ate very well that week. Acadia National park is easy to get to and had great hiking, with Bar Harbor's interesting shops and restaurants. The owners were wonderful supplying every thing from kayaks to a croquet game and outdoor grill. There is only one bathroom which did not bother us and was easily offset by the many positives of the Day Cottage.

This is a wonderful very clean, comfortable, well equipped cottage. We stayed here with our 2 college age kids and enjoyed every minute of it. We spent much time on the back porch and adirondack chairs wearing our fleeces. We enjoyed the kayaks and seal watching. Very convenient to acadia National Park, although it is hard to leave the property. Easy access to markets and dining.
Would definitely love to stay here again. -

We had a delightful week at the Day Cottage. Our GPS had no problem finding it - an easy drive and excellent roads. Only 10 minutes from Ellsworth (groceries, gas, etc.) and 20 minutes to Bar Harbor and acadia NP. My husband had never been to Maine before, and he fell in love with the adorable cottage, tranquil surroundings...and it was his first time kayaking and he loved it! Our teen daughter slept on the porch every night and loved shell hunting - one day a 10" jellyfish washed up! The tide comes in and out twice a day - fascinating!
There's a constant, gentle breeze that blows through the cottage. We left all doors and windows open day and night. In my opinion, breathing fresh Maine air restores the soul and clears the mind.
The photos online do not do this cottage justice. It is more spacious, adorable, and updated than it looks! The Lynch family did an exemplary job of decorating and providing everything a guest might want or need. We fantasized about getting a small summer house in Maine...but it's just easier to stay at the Day Cottage. When we return in the future, we wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else!

We just spent our honeymoon at the Day cottage. And I can honestly say that we fell in love with the place as soon as laid eyes on it. We went in mid May hoping to do all that we could in acadia and the surrounding areas. Unfortunate for us, it rained every single day. But in our favor was this wonderful cottage. We got great use from the fireplace as it can get quite cool up there this time of year. The place has an incredible charm. My wife and I are already trying to plan a new trip where we can bring a few more family members with us. If you get the chance, definatly stay at the day cottage. I know we will be back.

The Day cottage is welcoming, clean, convenient, and roomy. The living areas are spacious, the kitchen fully equipped, and the furniture and beds are very comfortable. We enjoyed relaxing in the screened in porch, walking out to the water, and watching the sunrises and sunsets from the yard. Although there is only one bathroom, it is on the main floor which makes it convenient. The unfinished basement has a large window that opens up so we could easily access the kayaks right out of the basement and carry them out to the water. Returning the kayaks to the basement was also very easy to do.
The cottage was recenlty renovated, and the owners' attention to detail it is very evident. The cottage is well-maintained and beautifully appointed. It is also close to other scenic areas in Maine. We enjoyed a visit acadia National Park, and a boat ride around the coastline.
The Day cottage is the only place we will consider renting when we visit Maine again. The owners are friendly and kind, and they worked hard to prepare the cottage so our stay was relaxing and enjoyable. -

Get up early before anyone else & walk down to the water. See the sunrise & watch the birds - they fly just inches off the surface. Peaceful tranquility abounds. We met out of town family at the Day cottage for a week's vacation & wish it could have been longer. The cottage is just lovely and has everything you could want or need. Don't miss the the Scoodic Peninsula (we had a picnic on the rocks with smoked salmon & a split of champagne!) What a treat! The trolly tour in and around Bar Harbor was so much fun & the mountain views are spectacular. We'll be back!

We like to travel and go to different places each summer, but in the Day Cottage, we found the perfect place for us. The fact that we are returning for the 3rd consecutive summer speaks volumes about the cottage and its location (and owners!). The cottage is beautiful and cozy and it offers a tranquil setting to truly relax, but you can also have a lot of fun without even leaving the cottage. Most mornings we kayak before breakfast and swim when the tide is in (cold, but not too cold). We have two boys who could skip rocks for hours and jump off this wonderful rock with the tide is in. For them, it is more fun than a sandy beach! There is a nice grassy area and we bring our baseballs and mitts. We lived in the screened in porch - we ate every meal there except when it rained, read and watched the sunset from there. The cottage is so beautiful and comfortable and has everything you could need. The Lynch's have done a spectacular job restoring and updating this gem. The view from the master bedroom is amazing; it really is from everywhere. We love to bike and hike and there are wonderful trails in acadia National Park - an easy and pretty drive. The only problem? One week is not long enough. We look forward to our time again at the Day Cottage this summer!
