I am writing this review in full honesty and disclosure of our trip. We rented 4 homes for our family reunion (30 people). The site is a great location to get away, as it about 7 miles (20min) to the main road towards town, through some very mountainous roads. Our home was lovely, and the service from our rental agent was superb. Plenty of things to do there, if you like the great outdoors, boats, kyaks, waterfall nearby, tire swing (if you look for it :-)...).
The bar and restaurant are wonderful with pretty good food at reasonable prices for being a higher end resort. I'm not much of a golf player either, but the 9-Hole golf coarse is awesome with fantastic views and challenging holes.
Now for the three occurrences for my sub-par review. The first night there a few members of our house went out to Wal-Mart to grab some groceries for the week. On the way back, my mother had forgotten the paper with the gate code on it. It was about 9pm just after dark, and on the wall by the little security house is a phone that says "For after hour emergency gate access please call this number." So we did. I proceeded to talk to a woman on the phone who asked me my name, address where we were staying, and the name of our Realtor (after some time). Of coarse we could only remember the first name of our Realtor. She continues to tell me that it isn't enough information to let me into the property, and that I could possibly be a security risk... then placed me on hold. After standing there for about 4-5min on hold, another car came into the gate and politely asked us if we needed in, which we of coarse said yes and gave our gracious thanks.
One afternoon my wife and I were eating lunch by the pool deck with my grandparents, it was a packed lunch as we were renting one of the pontoon boats that afternoon, and were eating just before. When a man walked up and introduced himself as "The general manager." No name, just that. And proceeded to tell us that we were not allowed to eat our own lunch by the pool area, only the lunch food purchased from the restaurant because, and I quote "We can see the money we make during lunch time go way down." But we could continue to eat it outside the pool area (10ft away) or anywhere else near the club house. No please or thank you, just an "I'm sorry, there is a sign posted on the way out of the door downstairs." One sign printed on a 4x8 sheet of paper that you could only see if you went through the clubhouse to get to the pool.
And last but not least the roads... If you are from FL like we are, or somewhere flat, these are not your average roads, they are very up and down, and quick around the corner, non marked mountain roads with no shoulder just mountain face on one side, cliff on the other. There is a fork in the road after a small wooden bridge that takes you right to the Golf Club, or left to the Lake Club. We were coming from the gold club to the lake club the day before leaving when an on-coming car was going to meet us, so I moved over more to the right to give them all of the road they needed when wham, I ran over something. I got out to inspect a drain, built out of sharp rock that protrudes into the road about 5-6ft with no room to spare on the adjacent side of the road, and I had run right over it and popped both tires and damaged the wheels on the right side of the car. One tire had a golf-ball sized hole in it from the sharp corner of the rock.
Needless to say after many hours getting into town, ordering new tires, waiting for them to get there, going back to pick them up, hoping the wheels were not damaged enough to not hold air... the last day and a half was wasted on this. Not to mention the other repairs needed once the car was inspected back home. Long story short the general manager said it was an unfortunate incident, and gave me the number to their attorney.
If it were not for the three bad stories, it would have been a great overall trip. We enjoyed time with our family. I got to ride motorcycles with my father in the mountains for the first time since he got his bike last year. My grandfather had his 80th birthday while we were there, and we surprised him with his brother from in. I wish I could say I looked forward to going back, but I do not wish to return.Response from The Rowes Condo - 03/14/2013

I am pleased you loved the accommodations and our customer service from a Rental Company Standpoint. It is unfortunate that you experienced poor customer service from Bear Lake Reserve as that is not a normal occurrence. Unfortunately this review reflects poorly on our company when we have no control over what happens on site. I have made Bear Lake Aware of the issue and i hope that you would consider returning to our rental!
Thank you -

Bear Lake is a beatiful mountain getaway with lots to do (or not). In our short stay, we played golf on their very cool course, took a pontoon boat to see a waterfall, hiked, and hung out by the lakeside pool. The view of the lake from the condo was just terrific, and the mountain setting was really pretty. The condo itself was beautiful, roomy, and had upscale finishes. You won't believe the stone mantle.I hope to go back for a longer stay soon!
