Sea Smiles is a four bedroom, two and one half bathroom home located in the East Beach portion of beautiful Oak Island, NC. The property features two queens, two doubles, one set of bunk beds with a single over a double, and one queen sofa bed. East Beach, which runs just over three miles from Southeast 58th Street west to Middleton Avenue is a popular stretch of Oak Island sand. Sea Smiles is a nice house with a good interior layout. Nice front deck and great screened-in porch with a dinner table. Nice view of the marsh. There are a few problems, however. The carpets are absolutely filthy. If I were the owner I'd be ashamed to have guests walk on them. The light switches are impossible to figure out and should be marked. There's a bedroom in the basement (first floor) that can only be reached by going outside; there's no bathroom on the basement level so anyone sleeping in that room has to go outside, up the exterior stairs, and into the second floor to use a bathroom. Not convenient in the middle of the night. The house has no electric can opener and only four forks. Biggest disappointment is the access to Davis Creek. We rented this house because we're canoe enthusiasts. We were told by Oak Island accommodations that we could put our 16' canoe in here, but only at high tide. Truth is that even at high tide a 16' canoe is too large; the canal is too narrow to turn around in. I don't think you should represent this house as marsh accessible via canoe. It's really not. We have to drive to other locations to use our canoe. Very disappointing. We would not rent this house again. --Bill Dantini
