The Casita that we rented was everything that we had hoped for - it was cozy, clean, beautifully decorated and furnished, and private. Located on the edge of Tucson Mountain Park and the Saguaro National Park West - on undeveloped desert. Although there are neighboring homes - this place gives you a sense that you are in the middle of the saguaros alone. Birds and a few critters are frequent visitors to the feeders -
Lyle and Karen have a very special place - we appreciated the solitude and the beauty of the adobe casita on 5 acres of desert forest. -

Casa Luna is a magic retreat in the desert where you feel that the huge cactus moved aside just enough to make room for the house. Indoors the adobe walls, the skylights and the abundant sliding doors blend the outdoors with the interior in a beautiful mix. We had a week of daily hiking in the nearby parks followed by the bliss of the hot tub as the sun set over the western mountains. Everything was clean and well furnished - absolutely no complaints. I highly recommend this for those who prefer a huge natural horizon to anything man made.

We stayed with a 7 and 5 year old in the 2 bedroom Casa Loma Roja. Everybody had a great time. The house is well equipped and spacious, the outside is stunning and private and the hot tub is great. Lots of great hikes around but not so many dining opportunities, especially in the evening, so be prepared to stay in and cook.
The business end of it was a pleasure. -

We came for sunshine. Loved having open desert (and new birds to see) just outside of the back door. The hot tub made it possible to stay in the sun when the temp. was in the 50's. It was nice to find everything we needed (excluding food) for our stay. The interior of the house was a little cooler than we would have liked, considering that we were hoping to take a break from wearing sweaters--however, we might have been asking too much for that time of year.

Our stay at Casita Bonita was everything we expected from the online description, and was very enjoyable. The hot tub, which is shared with guests in the adjacent Casa, is a real highlight, where one can bask in the warm water surrounded by Saguaro cacti and sage brush, with a very clear desert starry sky above. The Casita itself is comfortable and pleasing. West Saguaro National Park, with excellent hiking, and the arizona Sonora Desert Museum, are a few minutes away. We hope to return here in the future.

AdobeDesertRentals -- A restful and energizing recovery retreat (superb accommodations) in the midst of the Sonora Desert.
Adr homes and casitas are well constructed, spotlessly clean, true adobe structures designed to enable you to enjoy your natural surroundings from any room. The desert sunsets are not to be missed. They seem to last forever.
AdobeDesertRentals are located 2 miles from the Sonora Desert Museum and the Saguaro National Park -- both great places to visit.
Downtown Tucson is an easy 30 minute drive to the east where there are many fine restaurants, museums and galleries and no rush hour traffic. The Santa Catalina Mountains are an easy hour away. Karen and Lyle are gracious, accommodating and knowledgeable hosts. We are eager to return.

accurately described, clean, well maintained, very helpful owners, highly recommendable. this is an ecologically sound, comfortable 2 bedroom house in a pristine, private, saguaro-filled desert, with coyotes, bobcats, fox, quail, woodpeckers literally at your doorstep, within the saguaro national park, and less than 5 minutes from the amazing arizona sonora desert museum, and world class desert mountain hiking and biking. the perfect way to get away from it all.

the adobe was just right for my desert experience. next to the national park and a short drive into town made it ideal to enjoy all the desert has to offer and get supplies without the long drive.the location is also in my opinion, a photographer's delight. i'd stay there again in heartbeat.

What do I love most about Karen Hymer Thompson's four properties in the Sonoran desert? First, the fact that they are in the desert. You can drink in the silence and the wildlife morning until night. We have been coming here alone, and with friends, for the past ten years. We have stayed in all 4 units (1 bedroom and 2 bedrooms). We have bird watched, star gazed, rested, relaxed, and enjoyed views from each one of the private desert patios. And no, we have never been bothered by guests in the other unit. You share no walls and there are so many outside patios and views that you rarely even know anyone else is there. We love the fireplace in the winter. We love soaking in the outdoor hot tub all seasons under the stars and among the saguaro. Watching the glorious sunsets from the hot tub is a special pleasure.
The casas/casitas are located just a few miles from the Saguaro National Park West. Great hiking! Great Visitor Center! And just a few miles more from world famous Desert Museum, a must see in Tucson. They have an excellent gourmet restaurant at the Desert Museum. And If you want to get into Tucson and the University area, it's just a short drive over Gates Pass.
After all of the development in Tucson in the past 20 years , it is so nice to know that a place exists where you can still see (and be a part of) the desert as it once was, with a diversity of plants and animals now found only in parks (and here!). We love it and we wouldn't stay anywhere else when coming to Tucson! This is the pristine Sonoran desert of your dreams. Book early for the best choice of dates.
Oh and I want to say how much I also enjoy having a washing machine and dryer! Great for long stays! -

We've stayed at adobe Desert Rentals properties every year over the last 10 years. It has been an absolutely wonderful experience that has enriched our lives. The location is splendid-- it makes you feel as if you are in the middle of a park, with the desert all around you, birds singing, and tiny animals scampering about. The accommodations are extremely comfortable with a lovely sense of southwestern design. It has always been clean, and if we have ever had a problem, our hosts have been quick to take care of it. The washer-dryer is a definite plus, and the kitchen well-equipped. A great place to relax, watch the sunset, and a short drive into downtown Tucson over some spectacularly scenic roads. It's the best!

A great location near the Desert Museum with beautiful desert scenery and sunsets. We stayed here in 2008 and 2009 and loved the place, including the birds, the chipmunks and an occasional visiting coyote.
