Additional Location Information
Nestled inside a Saguaro studded canyon strewn with giant boulders, the "Moonrise Casita" is the perfect peaceful retreat possessing a commanding view of Tucson.  With just under 4 acres to roam, the romance of the location will enchant couples.  There is a strong sense of history to the canyon enclosing the casita. Moonrise was built on a long since forgotten mining road leading to 2 abandoned gold mines hidden in the surrounding canyon conjuring images of the old west.  You can easily imagine Apache scouts atop the stone towers guarding the entrance to their stronghold. Moonrise overlooks the San Xavier Mission, the "White Dove of the Desert", completed in 1792 and widely regarded as Tucson's most sacred place. Â
Convenient access to shopping at the .5 mile or more long Spectrum Shopping Center (10min) with grocery shopping even closer make this quiet escape a best kept secret.  Skip the zoo and curl up with a good book in the window seat if you can tear your eyes away from the dramatic scenery and the varied wildlife passing by.  You'll understand why this adobe casita came to be called "Moonrise" while wildlife viewing at twilight when the javelina families troop home past the window to their beds high up on a hill above the casita as the moon rises between the canyon walls.  In the morning upon waking from a deep slumber you can gaze up from bed at the hawk's nest in a craggy cliff face perhaps catching a glimpse of the Hawks caring for their young. If you're extremely lucky you might just see the most elusive of all, the tiny ringtail cat. Get a photo of a ringtail cat on site and receive a refund of 1 night on a reservation of 1wk or more.
The world renowned Sonoran Desert Museum features 300 animal species in their natural habitats, a natural history museum, and botanical garden just 25 scenic minutes away.
Travel back in time at the Old Tucson Movie Studios to experience what life was like in the 'Old West'. Just a 25 minute drive and 100 years ago from the Moonrise Casita.
For the sports enthusiasts there is golf at 3 nearby courses: Star Pass (15 min), El Rio (20min), and Silverbell (25min). There is a trap and skeet range 18 minutes away.
There are 3 casinos as close as 12 minutes away such as the massive Casino Del Sol and the Desert Diamond casinos.
Hiking, Mtn biking, and rock climbing are all available on or very near to Moonrise. Skiing and sledding during the winter season are available on Mt Lemmon at 9000 + feet in elevation and 51 miles away. Horse back riding and hot air ballooning are also readily available nearby.
Or catch a movie at the new Harkins movie theatre 12 minutes away.

43323Relaxing and scenic get-away
Left on 05/17/2012 for a stay in April 2012
My Wife and I spent an extended weekend here with our 10mo old son. We wanted to relax, do some hiking and see some of the city. This casita was the perfect base camp for all of that.
Easy directions were provided to us. The property is located near the city, but far enough away in a sparsely developed area that you could almost believe you were alone in the desert. The gravel access road is probably best traveled in a high-clearance vehicle.
We found a welcome note on our arrival and were delighted with the clean rooms and ample supplies. The casita has a very comfortable layout with a central kitchen-dining-living area where the windows look out onto the patio. The kitchen was outfit with enough basic supplies for us to make our own meals and the patio gave us space to enjoy the scenery after our little guy went to bed.
It's located very near the Saguaro National Park West and Tuscon Mountain Park , where we went on a few great hikes. The owners kindly provided a small library , including a great guide to hiking in Tuscon. Because this house is located on the west side of the city it does take quite a while to drive to the east side- at least a half hour if I recall correctly. However it does have easy highway access for day trips to the surrounding area.
The only problem we encountered was that the owners were waiting for some repairs to the cold-water supply for the kitchen and fridge. They provided us with chilled bottled water which more than made up for it. Because everything else was so well cared for I imagine the issue is fixed already.
Overall this was a great place to stay and we'd recommend it unequivocally! -

El PasoA Taste of Shangri-la
Left on 03/30/2012 for a stay in January 2012
Nestled amongst the saguaro laden mountains, this Casita is massive in charm! It has it all...breathtaking 360 degree views, clear night skies with city lights twinkling in the distance and all the authentic southwest charm one could ever ask for in it's rustic plaster walls, brick floors, rough hewn posts, niches, kiva fireplace, plank ceilings, and adobe walls. There's even a domed ceiling at the entryway!
If you're a nature lover, you'll see plenty of it here with trails for hiking right outside your door. We even saw a family of javelinas go through the carport! You'll feel isolated and yet not alone as your neighbors are just around the corner and all the shopping amenities you'll need are just minutes away.
Pictures do not fully convey this little diamond's immense appeal but once experienced, you'll definitely put it on your list of favorite places and come back again and again. -

The backdrop for the Casita is amazing. We loved the open space and the chance to roam our own little piece of paradise. There is so much character that pictures do little justice, you really just have to visit and see for yourself. The Casita itself is very homey and inviting and has all the amenities you would expect. On top of that, the owners provided the small touches that make you want to come back again and again.
Star gazing is fantastic. We saw many animals and birds. The casita is very quiet and private and we spent 3 of our ten days simply staying at the casita, enjoying the views. We would often spend the afternoon basking in the sun on the patio.
Hiking up the canyon affords even more fantastic views and we have included a few of our photos from this vantage point.
With a variety of shopping, Saguaro National Park, Sonoran Desert Museum and Old Tucson Studios and other attractions a short car ride away, why would you stay anywhere else? We will definitely be back. -

The pictures hardly capture the jaw dropping beauty of the surroundings. My wife and I needed a quiet place to leave our worries behind for a little while and this was the perfect getaway to rest and regenerate before returning to the demands of the world. The place is clean and tastefully designed for a charming atmosphere. One of the many things we love most about Tucson is the warm weather and the crystal clear blue skies even in December/January. Ideal place for nature lovers. Moonrise feels like its miles from anywhere yet we felt perfectly safe with everything we needed like shopping, restaurants, groceries, or attractions like the Desert Museum and Old Tucson close by. We look forward to returning to see the changes the seasons bring.
