We decided an a spur of the moment to go to Tulum for New Year's Eve and lucked into a cancellation at Villa Dolce Vita. This was my first time to Tulum, but my girlfriend had been there a few times before.
The accommodations were perfect. The location and pool were cozy, and the hosts were friendly and hospitable. Breakfasts were filling, but not too rich to keep you from going to adventure.
We loved the shaded hammocks on the beach and received a massage in the sand from the owners' masseuse. I recommend getting a massage from her as well (Lucia).
It was a perfect romantic getaway.

35805The worst hotel ever
Left on 12/30/2011 for a stay in December 2011
That was the most terrible experience ever! First of all, we smelt mold when we came to the room. Okay, but when I came to the bathroom there were hairs on the surface of toilet. That was awful! What kind of place is that? By the way, it's just a "bed and breakfast hotel", but they charge you like a big hotel per night. Walls and ceiling there have rough surface, and dust was just hanging over. Awful! We also noticed sand on our sheets (it supposed to be changed!). Switches were dirty as well. Overall condition of this place was terrible. At the end, the owner told to us that people come there for experiencing nature, but not for "a king size bed." Well, we expected to relax and get rest, and we pictured a nice place to stay. Definitely, hotel Dolce Vita is not a place where you can feel that you are on vacation. Our vacation was pretty much ruined. We paid a full amount for two weeks at Dolce Vita and there is no need to say that our deposit wasn't returned. Do not believe to those beautiful pictures that they advertise. It is far from reality.

We are sorry that apparently there's been quite a misunderstanding here that we cannot let go by without some degree of explanation.
When one is in the business of running a B&B long enough, one will encounter people that right from the get-go you know its not going to go well. So some clarification is needed for perspective.
This couple arrived, in spite of our advising them when check-in was, about 3 hours early. So not only was the room not finished, we had an electrician in the room repairing a faulty ceiling fan. In spite of this, we did our best to accommodate them earlier than normal check-in our caretaker working around the electrician. Unfortunately, the guests went into the room before we did our final check. When they brought up about sand in the bed (very unlikely since we do our own laundry and iron all the sheets just before making the bed) it is possible that with the electrician working on the ceiling fan, some cement debris fell from the ceiling onto the bed spread. Yes, the electrician also left a print on a light switch. As for other issues, we offered to have the room gone over entirely once again. If one smelled anything in the room, it was the disinfectant cleaner we use that usually has a chance to air out before guests check in. It was while the room was being re-done, the husband apologized to us, saying this had been a misunderstanding and that our place was not what they anticipated and that they really wanted more of a larger, honeymoon-type suite. Then the wife writes this.
All one needs do is read all our other reviews for a far more accurate perspective. In fact, most of our guests comment upon arrival that it is even nicer here than it appears in our photos. -

Baltimore, MDPure Relaxation!
Left on 11/28/2011 for a stay in May 2011
We have never had a more relaxing vacation! This destination is awesome. The B&B;, the pool, the Palapa, the beach are all spectacular. We rented a car (recommended) for excursions, and used it only for driving to dinner each night and seeing the ruins at Coba and Tulum on one day trip. The rest of our time was spent at the B&B; in blissful relaxation.
The room was fine, the bath fine too. A larger fridge and a microwave would be a bonus, but we made do. Breakfasts were excellent. Chris & Connie were great hosts and very helpful and friendly with places to eat, things to see.
The pool was awesome. The beach with shaded hammocks and sun lounges was excellent! The palapa allows eating, reading, resting and fabulous views and constant relaxing breezes. We never wanted to leave.
Visit the nearby Mayan ruins (Coba and Tulum). Ask Connie for the beach in Tulum to visit while out on the town... the finest sand beach we've ever encountered! With palm trees and food service at tables and on beach mattresses as well. Plan on dinners out each night (none within walking distance), but all fun and tasty.
Everyone in Tulum was happy we were there, and we had a great time. You will too! -

Connie and Chris run part of the their home as a B&B.; Situated along a beach road with security. Rooms separate from the main house, next to the pool and beach with bathrooms en suite and own fridge. Excellent breakfasts of fresh fruit, coffee and something cooked (usually eggs) and pastries. Location excellent to visit Mayan sites at Tulum and Coba, Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve and more touristy places only 50 km away. Soloman Bay is a lovely, secluded bay with 20-30 houses and a few small hotels, protected by a reef. Sea kayaks provided and just short trip to snorkel on the reef. Good beginner snorkelling for our teenager. Shade, hammocks and sun loungers on the beach. Bit weedy in water by the beach, but once past that the water was clear.

Fantastic stay at a beautiful property with hosts who are always helpful but never obtrusive. Informative website and fast email replies on any questions, so it's hard to understand why people choose not to take time to make sure the place will meet their expectations before they book.

Connie & Chris, the inn keepers, were very hospitable and helpful in assisting us with locating a good dive operator for scuba diving in the cenotes. Our room was steps from the beach. We enjoyed lounging in the hammocks on the beach. Breakfast was quite good.
Walk up the beach and check out Jashita Hotel for a drink and/or dinner in a lovely atmosphere. Our favorite restaurant for lunch is Zamas and Casa Banana for dinner. Order the aracharra steak - the best I've ever had! -

We (my wife and I) stayed at the Villa Dolce Vita March 9th for 5 nights. Our arrival was by taxi at 8:00 pm after dark. The owner Connie met us, had our luggage taken upstairs to the guest house, pointed out that the nearest eating place was 1 km away - but wouldn't recommend it. His idea was to walk 2 km back down the bumpy unmade road in the dark. There was no offer of a hot drink and the room had no facilities to make one. Not the welcome we had expected or received in other B&B;'s. Note we are experienced travellers and stay in a variety of accommodations worldwide. I summarise the accommodation as follows:
Plus:
Refrigerator in room.
Drinking water provided.
Comfy double bed.
Sound of sea to sleep to.
Direct access to beach.
Hammock on beach nice touch.
Negatives:
Told what time breakfast was. (No flexibility)
No TV.
Access to property down long , often pot holed, bumpy road. Not to be recommended if you have a neck or back problem.
Take own wine glasses, still waiting for ours after asking twice.
Absolute need car.
No tea or coffee making facilities.
The beach was not easy access for swimming and not in our opion good for snorkelling.
Also exercise caution if booking as other B&B; couple were Nudists, around the beach and pool. -

Our experience at Dolce Vita was second to none. Not only was the property, location, and service as great as promised, it exceeded our expectations. We were celebrating a special anniversary with close friends and it could not have been more special. The breakfasts were delicious and varied, every morning. The rooms were cleaned spotlessly. The beach was only steps away and the pictures that you see online do not do this place justice. The bar for our getaway trips has been raised to a new high. It will be very hard to be this place, no matter where we may go, in the world. Thanks Connie & Chris!

Frisco, ColoradoVilla Dolce Vita is "One of a kind"!
Left on 10/05/2010 for a stay in September 2010
My husband and I recently stayed a week at Villa Dolce Vita. If you want to get away from it all and just relax, but still be close to restaurants and lots of site seeing this is the place to be (you do need a car). The daily breakfast got our day started out right, lounging reading on the beach and then kayaking and snorkeling was our perfect day. Soliman Bay is unique because the only people on this beach are the ones who are renting there. No extra boat/kayak rental or snorkeling tours. You can't find this on any other beach. Lots of privacy. The refrigerator in the room is a plus for snacks and beer. Our hosts Connie and Chris were so helpful to recommend restaurants, beaches, etc., so much better than a regular hotel if you want to get the "local experience." If you want a laid back, relaxing, no TV kind of vacation this is the place to stay. We loved it.

My husband and I just returned from our three plus week tour of Mexico. I have to say that our stay at Villa Dolce Vita was a highlight of our trip. The villa setting is beautiful right there on the Caribbean beach with all the tropical gardens throughout the property. We loved it that the beach was only about four or five steps from our room! Everything is perfectly cared for from our guest room, to the pool and grounds, and their beach.
Chris and Connie are great hosts, preparing the most delicious breakfasts, anticipating our every need to make our stay very comfortable and offering helpful advice about what to do in the area.
If you are planning to visit the Tulum area, don't miss staying at Dolce Vita! There is so much to see and do in the area and the villa is the perfect place to stay.

Olathe, KansasOutstanding Stay at Villa Dolce Vita
Left on 05/16/2010 for a stay in April 2010
Our stay at Villa Dolce Vita was exceptional. We spent 8 days lounging on the beach, snorkeling / kayaking on Soliman Bay and seeing the sights of the Tulum area. Our goal was to sit back and relax for this vacation. We wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the major hotels of Cancun. Villa Dolce Vita provided that relaxed atmosphere and made for a very enjoyable stay.
VDV is tucked in the back of somewhat secluded Soliman Bay. We stayed in the top room that provided an excellent view o f the bay, and overlooking the private pool. The location is perfect because it is very quiet and secluded but within an easy, short drive to the town of Tulum for groceries, restaurants and shopping. The room was spotlessly cleaned daily and everything was in perfect working order. There were no surprises.

This our 5th year staying at Villa Dolce Vita which speaks for itself of the fantastic service, the great owners, Chris & Connie, the cleanliness of our room, grounds, beach, etc thanks to Gaspar the groundskeeper. There are only two rooms so it is an opportunity to get to know the other guests while staying there which we have thoroughly enjoyed. We look forward to visiting Villa Dolce Vita every year, we are already booked for next year and they have several other returning guests that we have had the pleasure to meet.
Our breakfasts are impeccable, Chris works very hard every year to come up with new & tasty delights. If your stay is 7 - 10 days you will not have a repeat. They are served under the palapa just outside your room with the sounds of beautiful birds chirping and the ocean waves coming up on the beach. Coffee is available by 6:00 am if you are a early riser which is the best time because the sunrises are to die for. Early morning walks along the beach are very peaceful.
The rooms are spacious and a few steps from the beach, the ground floor room, you open the patio door and walk out to the beach, what more could you ask for. Each room has a safe in it for your valuables, which you set your own combination to, not like other places where the owners have the combination also. The owners stock the fridge with some water, pop & beer before your arrival. There is a fresh water cooler right in your room for you.
One thing we really enjoy is when Gaspar will prepare a true Mexican meal for you, sometimes he will ask if you are interested, he will take requests but he needs advance notice.
This beach/bay area is peaceful because there aren't any large hotels on it, the businesses/homes are privately owned.
Tulum and the ruins are about a 10 minute drive, yes you need to rent a vehicle but it is absolutely worth it. Great restaurants/food, shopping, etc. Chris and Connie have given great advise on the best places to eat and to see.
