Boston, MADelightful!
Left on 05/12/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Casa Tranquillo was absolutely delightful! The house had all the amenities we needed for our children (5 and 10), including beach toys, boogie boards, etc. Craig was incredibly helpful and always available, and the caretaker did a wonderful job of maintaining the house. The beach is amazing, the water is so warm, and while the surf was a bit rough while we were there, there was no undertow and the kids had a great time. We felt very safe walking back from the many nearby restaurants in the evenings. The nearby ruins and cenotes were great to visit, and we had an amazing day at Xel-Ha. We hope to come back soon! Best family vacation we've had! Thanks Mike and Craig!

This is a real gem. Craig, the owner, makes you feel so welcome you almost feel like you're just borrowing an old friend's beach house. He's always accessible on the phone, and a pleasure to deal with. We were a group of 5 - 3 adults and 2 small kids - and we had more than enough room. All the bedrooms are spacious - the upstairs ones are massive. It's perfect for a big family (or 2 smaller ones), but would also work for a few couples to share as well. Kitchen is basic, but worked just fine for us for a few meals. Propane BBQ is also a plus. The place feels very secure - you can lock it up tight and there is an alarm system... But you will feel very safe in this area anyway. The location is great - midway down the main Tulum beach. There's a mostly unused property to the north, and La Luna to the south - a small hotel - so you have plenty of space on the beach to yourself. Tulum town is a quick drive away and worth visiting, especially for meals. The house is right on the beach, so there's normal wear-and-tear from the salt air but the place is very well cared for. I'd go back in a heartbeat, I had high hopes after reading all the other reviews and it more than lived up to our expectations.

Vancouver IslandXmas at casa Tranquillo for family of 7
Left on 01/01/2013 for a stay in December 2012
We stayed at Casa Tranquillo for Christmas this year(2012) and had a fabulous time. What we appreciated most was the location and the large property which provided lots of private space. At Christmas with the beach being fairly busy this was huge bonus. The different sitting/lounging areas were great, the roof deck for morning yoga and sunrises as well as happy hour, the palapa with swings on the beach for breakfasts and lunches and the lounging chairs with lots of shade available for reading and relaxing. The outdoor shower made swimming at the beach very practical. Manuel looks after the beachfront well, cleaning away all seaweed and debris daily.
The three large bedrooms and two bathrooms worked out well for our group of 7, grandparents, parents and kids (three 15 year olds). We cooked dinner a few times over our ten day stay but chose to take advantage of the fun surrounding (but sometimes pricey) restaurants on most evenings. Craig was super helpful in giving tips for meals, places to go and some general knowledge of the area. We had been to Tulum twice before and allot of Craig's input was new and interesting for us.
It was great to have the use of the boogie boards which we used daily as well as the kayaks
Casa Tranquillo is truly a beachfront paradise, if you are looking to get away from the crowds, have a private space and spectacular beach then this is the place to go!
The listing, the appearance & amenities are all accurate as displayed on the website.
Thanks so much Craig & Mike, we hope to be back some day!!

We traveled by car from Cancun to the Belize border. One of our longer stays was in Tulum at Casa Tranquillo. It is everything described and more. The sand is truly like powdered sugar and a cool breeze wafts in from the ocean to make hot days quite pleasant. The sea is a bit robust, but once in, we played happily in the kayak. We saw baby turtles hatching and a female lay her eggs right by the lounge! Highlights of the stay there included long sunset walks on the beach, a cenote in a cavern, a hike into the monkey reserve (Don't touch the trees; some have toxic sap!), Coba ruins, Tulum Ruins (avoid cruise times here as too packed), and just hanging out at the villa. The owners are gracious, helpful, and have many good tips for the area. You'd need a car for exploration but If you just want to hang out at the villa and do Tulum Mayan Ruins, a taxi will do! We would return in a second if we could! Next year, certainly!

Privately nestled in the sand and palms, the house is spacious, comfortable, and fully stocked for a much needed family get away. The common areas are perfect for spending time together in a peaceful tropical paradise.

My family, including two teens, and some family friends shared the house for the Thanksgiving holiday. The location couldn't be more perfect, right on the ocean, with snow white sand. We could hear the crashing waves and feel the sea breeze every night. Mike and Craig are wonderful, answering all our questions and providing every amenity needed, including coconuts that were peeled and ready to drink! We tried out the kayaks and body boards in the waves. Sat under palm trees and caught up on our reading. Watched the sunset from the rooftop deck in the evening. Made use of the kitchen for breakfast, lunch, appetizers, drinks -- with dinner at terrific restaurants located right on the beach within walking distance, I don't think I wore shoes the entire week! The wifi is weak, just enough for a quick email check, which can be a good thing if you really want to get away from it all. And if you can drag yourself away from Casa Tranquillo, there's plenty to do nearby: Tulum ruins, a walk through town, boat snorkeling trips, biosphere. A lovely lovely holiday. We'd definitely come back.

My wife and I traveled with our son and our daughter and her husband and baby. This was a perfect house for our needs. Three bedrooms, each with a king bed and a view of the ocean. They provided a crib and high chair for the baby.
It is right on the beach, yet very quiet and peaceful. All of the beach toys are right at the house. Surf boards, skim boards, boogie boards, kayaks, beach toys, plus lot of games inside.
Several good restaurants within walking distance on the beach. Our favorite was to take the short drive to town and pick up grilled chickens with rice and beans and salsa at Pollo Bronco and bring it back to the house. Made sure we had lots of leftovers and then made tacos and quesedillas the next day.
My wife and I would take a short walk down the beach every day to Maya Tulum Resort where she would take a Yoga class for a small fee, and I would either read on the beach or get a massage.
Mike and Craig were always available for help or advice but were not intrusive.
As many have pointed out, the best part is the location. Right on the beach with easy access to everything, yet very peaceful. -

You can't beat this house for a perfect beachfront vacation. My wife, myself, and our four children (age 11,10,7,7) stayed at this spacious home, equipped with everything you need. This is one of only a few private homes on all the beach in Tulum, set amidst chic cabana-style hotels. How many 'top 10' lists of beaches are on the internet? Too many to count. With the beautiful powdery sand, lovely onshore wind and warm water, the kids and us all had a blast. No falling over other tourists looking for a spot to sit, Casa Tranquillo has tonnes of oceanfront. This beach really belongs on any top 10 list, for real.
Walk to your own house to make a drink or have lunch, or, saunter a few yards down the beach and pick another restaurant. We enjoyed going to La Luna restaurant when we wanted to spoil ourselves. They would provide us a whole pot of coffee, margaritas, or whatever we wanted, and scoot back over to our beachfront to enjoy in the privacy of our setting.
Much more reasonable prices on meals out in town as well. Book a massage at a beach hotel, go for a 5k run first thing on the beach. Best of all worlds, if you want it. Enjoy the sunrises and sunsets from the roof. Plenty of power to get you through the day from the solar panels, and clean drinking water delivered regularly. Manuel was great about raking the beach, and getting coconuts for kids, which he split and gave the kids. The kids spent hours on the beach with the boards supplied at the house, which Mike and Craig keep in good repair. The sand is frankly awesome for building castles etc.
Craig was never far during our trip. When we arrived at the house, he met us there and gave us a cell phone we could use to call him anytime we had a question. We didn't abuse this, but when we did call, he answered. Great tips on choice of local restaurants, where to get gas, how far to various locations etc. By the end of the week, we wondered where all the time went!

Great house, excellent location. We loved the place. It's very family friendly. James was great. He gave us all the help we needed. The gardener was very nice. He cut open coconuts for the kids each day. The beach was amazing. The surf was just right in april. Easy enough for my six year old to swim, but also fun on the boogie boards. The house comes with boogie boards and a surf board. The description of the property is very accurate. Lots of room. We had 6 adults and 2 kids and it didn't feel crowded at all. The beds were comfortable, and the kitchen is well stocked. We can't wait to go back.

We brought our four children ages 13, 10, 6, and 4 and they all had a wonderful time. The house was very accommodating with everything we needed. There is so much to see and do in Tulum!- we will definitely go back to the same house and finish what we missed! We would absolutely recommend this house to anyone! It's fun to hear the ocean waves and to walk out the front to a beautiful beach / ocean view. The beach is not crowded like Cancun . Plenty of crab/ turtle hunting and the kids loved body surfing every day. My husband enjoyed reading his book under the palapa! Craig and Mike are easy to get in contact with to help or give advice. Very nice guys they went over and beyond what a hotel clerk would do. It's a beautiful place to visit - a "real" Mexican place without the tourist hype. A great education for our children along with a beautiful place to vacation! We were able to take them to the ruins of Chichen Itza, Coba, and Tulum during our stay. It took about 3 hours to get to Chichen Itza by car with Coba on the way.

We had a fantastic week. The guy who met us explained everything about the house, things to do in the area, and where to find the things we needed. The house was clean and very comfortable. The sights and sounds were marvellous, and the blue water and white sand were right out the back door.

I've stayed several times at Casa Tranquillo, and each time find myself anxious to come back soon. The location is perfect - I mean right on the beach!! Mike and Craig have done an excellent job in creating the perfect vacation spot for singles or couples with children- the house is always clean, the location is central - once you arrive you never have to put your shoes on again! Walks on the beach to fabulous restaurants (and spas) or you can cook in your own kitchen. Easy to rent a car(or bike) and tour all the local ruins or go to town for a shopping adventure and lunch or dinner. (Honest - you will be delighted with the food). The owners provide a cell phone in case you have any needs or questions and even a fruit bowl and beverages to get your vacation off to a great start. I think this is the perfect spot for any age - the house has two king size bedrooms upstairs and one down, and lots of areas for children to sleep and play. I'm a realtor in Texas and I would highly recommend this location for your vacation getaway- I'm looking forward to returning asap. Oh - and they have someone that comes and cleans "your" beach on a regular basis - you do not have to do a thing!! I found it great for finishing that book I have been carrying around and always wanted to read but this time under palm tree with a ocean breeze(and Margarita).
