      Peaceful slice of Heaven!

Left on 02/08/2013 for a stay in January 2013

We loved our stay at Villa Gummerson! Our group of 6 (3 couples) just got back a week ago and are trying to figure out when we might be able to return. The beach was great - right outside the door, and the pool provided a nice change to get out of the wind or sun or just to have a change of scenery.
We had Rosa and Honorio cook Mayan BBQ chicken for us with flan for dessert. Yum!!
Our transportation from and back he sun from dawn till dusk , very private but also very handy for local amenieties :-
The supermarket , 2 minutes drive had everything you could want , fresh fish , butchers all of a very high quality and reasonably priced .
The local restaurant Dave recomends( and rightly so ) which ito the airport was taken care of by Marcia before we ever left home. The days we wanted to go away from the villa (one day to akumal to swim with the sea turtles, and one day to go to Puerto aventuras to have key lime pie at Cafe Ole and walk around and shop. We also had a great meal at Latitude 20 for lunch that day) we asked Honorio to arrange it a day in advance. He might not have even needed that much time to get the transportation arranged, but we planned ahead !
On our way to the villa, we had our driver stop for beer at the 7-11 on the way to Playa Del Carmen where we stopped for groceries at Soriana grocery store. We stocked up on beer, liquor, and snacks for the week. We also grilled burgers and made fajitas while there using the bbq grill.
Other meals we ate at Casa Cenote right next door. (*Blue Sky is closed now. It was mentioned in other reviews, but we couldn't eat there )
All in all, the week was relaxing and wonderful. We highly recommend Villa Gummerson to one and all!!

      A Week in Paradise

Left on 02/02/2013 for a stay in January 2013

Wonderful, modern, spacious villa, 25 feet from the water. Safe, secure and quiet location that is excelent for families with small children. First class on site peroperty manager/cook and daily maid service. The Casa Cenote Restaurant was next door with great food and drinks. The actual cenote across the street was an added bonus and was a great swimming diversion from the waters of Tankah Bay and the house pool. The option to have meals prepared by the staff was wonderful with a full written menu from which to choose. The on site snorkle and sea kayak equipment were put to good use. The owner in Illinois was wonderful to deal with and was very responsive to all email questions and inquiries.

Exceeded our expectations, and our expectations were high!

Left on 08/07/2012 for a stay in July 2012

As the other reviewers have said, the house is exactly as pictured on the website. It is kept immaculately clean, and the grounds are tended to beautifully. The bedrooms and bathrooms are large and the living areas and kitchen work very well. The staff of the property are so friendly and accommodating, every need is taken care of immediately without delay.

We spent our days switching between snorkeling directly out front and swimming in the pool in back. There is plenty to do within a short drive, most notably swimming with the sea turtles in akumal and the white sandy beaches of Tulum. Chitzen Itza is an easy day trip (we set off at around 8 and easily beat the crowds, super easy safe drive). We ate most of our dinners in Tulum Pueblo and were very impressed with what we found in both local and touristy fare.

We hope to be back and would certainly recommend the house to anyone.

      Absolutely Perfect

Left on 03/03/2012 for a stay in February 2012

We spent a week in February 2012 at Villa Gummerson. The internet pictures do not do justice to the Villa as they can't give you the feel of your stay on Tankah Bay. The Villa was beautifully decorated and spotless as pictured, but add the sound of waves lapping on the shore and the feel of the breeze - and then you have Villa Gummerson.
We loved the location as we were close to everything, but had quiet beach or pool time if we chose. I was concerned about being isolated or having a hard time getting around as we did not have a rental vehicle (nothing you can rent that can transport a group of 8). We would let Honorio, the caretaker, know where and when we wanted to go and he would make all arrangements for us.
Honorio and Silvia took wonderful care of us - always available to help us with arrangements or provide information. They prepared 2 meals for us that were delicious. Tim and Marcia, the owners, were very generous sharing their experience and advice on the area.
Everyone in our group of 8 had an amazing vacation, hated to leave and can't wait to come back to Villa Gummerson.

      A Great Vacation in Paradise

Left on 06/21/2011 for a stay in February 2009

We stayed at Villa Gummerson for 2 weeks in February or 2009. Some family was only there a week so at most we were 8 people. This home is so roomy and comfortable. We initially thought having the pool in the back would be a dissappointement but we had several very windy days and the pool was a beautiful sheltered oasis. We use the services of the caretakers Sylvia and Honorio a few times and had wonderful Mayan meals prepared by them. They are there when you needed them and the rest of the time you hardly noticed them but the place is always clean! We really enjoyed our time together at your beautiful Villa, thank you for sharing it.

      Perfection!

Left on 05/25/2011 for a stay in March 2009

We went over spring break with our family of 5 and another family of 4. There was plenty of room for all of us and the property is just gorgeous! It was very comfortable with all the things you could need. The beach was beautiful and so was the pool. We spent many days just hanging out there. There is a cenote just across the street that was great fun too. Also a restaurant right next door that had wonderful food. They shut down early so there was never a problem with noise. Take the drive into Tulum for shopping and a stop at the bakery! Worth the trip. Can't say enough positive things about Villa Gummerson! I hope we get to return there someday!

Better than we could have ever imanged

Left on 04/07/2011 for a stay in March 2011

My family (myself, my husband, our three children (ages 15, 9, and 5) and my mom) have been planning this trip for almost one year. Everything was perfect - from dealing with Marcia and Tim with all of the details beforehand right through to the trip itself. Everything was wonderful. I cannot say enough good things about the owners - wonderful people and Honoria and Sylivia (who take care of the villa) were all very professional, helpful and made our trip amazing. The villa itself is fantastic - more beautiful than any of the photos. And the scenery is breathtaking. The kids had a fantastic time collecting sea shells, swimming in the sea and the pool, snorkeling in the Cenote (which is right across the road) - they did everything they wanted to do. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable vaction to say the least. My Mother had never been anywhere before this and was quite nervous about how safe it would be, the water, etc, etc. She had a great time and is talking about her trip back next year. My only recommendations would be to bring water shoes (as the shore is full of washed up coral) and bring your own mask and snorkel - you can rent them from the cenote for about $2.00 for the day but they are old and in rough shape. Other than that book in for more than one week - you won't be sorry.

      Relaxing and Beautiful!

Left on 03/31/2011 for a stay in February 2011

This was a our second year staying at Villa Gummerson. We love staying at the house because it is just our group of friends. It is exactly what we want, a place to relax. The pool is on one side of the house and the ocean is on the other! We stop at Walmart on the way to stock up on groceries for the week. We also have easy access to taxis to go anywhere we want. There are 3 restaurants within walking distance. We like that the area has security and we love the dogs Flora and Ziggy (which also help with security). We have always felt safe and secure, and not worried about anything. Honorio and Sylvia are absolutely wonderful people and amazing cooks! The best place to eat an incredibly fabulous dinner is right at the house! Thank you for sharing Villa Gummerson with us!

A perfect, relaxing, wonderful vacation with our kids.

Left on 03/29/2011 for a stay in June 2009

We have stayed at Villa Gummerson at least 4 times over the last 6 or 7 years. The owners, Tim and Marcia, are lovely people who obviously care so much for Mexico and their home there. Honorio and Sylvia, the caretakers, are always there for anything you would ever need. Sylvia is an excellent cook and it is a true treat to have her make you a lobster dinner! We have stayed there with family and with friends and the house is appropriate for either vacation. The location on the Mayan Riviera is unparalleled. The beach is literally steps from the back door! We love the snorkeling right out in back of the house and have seen sea turtles, spotted eagle rays, sting rays and of course, an amazing array of colorful fish. Right next door is small palapa style restaurant, Casa Cenote, where you can have the best bloody mary's and breakfast tacos you could ever imagine. The small town of akumal is right up the road and has many excellent restaurants and lots to do. Tulum is also only a 10 minute drive away with beautiful beaches, great cuisine, grocery stores, and great boutique shopping. I've left the best part for last, which is the house itself. It is just beautiful!! It has touches of Mexican art all over the house, is perfectly comfortable, and makes you feel like you have your own Mexican property. I can't say enough about it. Make your reservation and stay here for the most relaxing, fun vacation you will every have. We've already booked our next one for this summer!!

Our family has stayed at the beautiful Villa Gummerson 2 times in the past 3 years. The villa is absolutely gorgeous and has everything to offer its guests.
Each room is comfortable and includes its own bath, ceiling fan and seperate temperature control. The views are stunning and no expense is spared on decoration and comfort. The on site caretakers are available at all times for whatever need you may have and are also available to prepare traditional meals for you with advance notice. The location is perfect for site seeing and day trips to Chichen Itza, Tulum, Valladolid, Ek Balaam and many other Mayan archeological sites. There are ruins and underground cenotes all over the peninsula, in fact; there is a cenote within walking distance of the villa. Casa Cenote, an american owned restaurant is also nearby for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Tankah bay, where the villa is located, is calm and relaxing. Snorkeling here is fantastic! The vast underground cave system of the Yucatan reaches right in front of the villa and you will see a blue circle of water where the cenote empties into the sea...here you can observe a plethera of tropical fish while snorkeling.
The villa has all the necessities of home and more. For those who aren't fans of sand, you can bask in the sun at the villas pool and sip frozen cocktails in the comfort of home. The town of Tulum is only a 10 minute drive where you will find craft stores, restaurants, a grocery store, bakery and many other shops. Tulum is a wonderful place to visit and observe the small town life of the local Mayan people.
Villa Gummerson is your home away from home...the luxurious amenities await you and your friends & family. You will never want to return home once you experience the wonder of the Yucatan and the hospitality and beauty of Villa Gummerson.

Our family loves Villa Gummerson. The house is beautiful - beautifully decorated, beautifully maintained and a wonderful location. There is always a calm breeze so it is never too hot to relax outside and enjoy the view, the ocean and the pool. The small restaurant next door is a great place to sit outside and enjoy margaritas and chips or a full meal. The staff is very helpful and keeps the home immaculate. We have enjoyed Villa Gummerson for two vacations and are hoping we can go back again with our family. It is an ideal place to totally relax but it is close to places of interest so there is always something to see and do if the spirit moves you. We have traveled to many places with our family and rented homes but we all consider Villa Gummerson to be the best by far!

      Riviera Maya and Villa Gummerson...Fabulous!

Left on 03/21/2011 for a stay in June 2007

Having grown weary of resort vacations, I wanted something different so booked a week at Villa Gummerson for my family and I. The drive from Cancun to the house was an easy one. The Cancun/Tulum corridor is well traveled so we always felt safe. When we arrived at Villa Gummerson, we immediately knew that our expectations had been exceded. The home is stunning. We had arranged for the caretakers to stock the house with a few essentials for our evening arrival and were happy we did. The next morning we were greated by a gorgeous sunrise and began exploring. Having a couple of restaurants within walking distance (not to mention a cantina right next door) was so cool. My kids all love the water and the snorkeling right in front of the house was great. Although we did many excursions such as Xel-ha and dinners at akumal, we found our most memorable times were spent at the Villa. Relaxing, luxurious, low key and convenient is how I'd best describe our time there. The ammenities such as the pool and kayaks were so nice. Having the caretakers right on the property was great as we also arranged to have them prepare some authentic meals. The town of Tulum is nice...grocery stores, markets and restaurants were all good. The kids enjoyed haggling for trinkets in the markets and was a good way to introduce them to using foreign currency (roughly 10:1 exchange is pretty easy). All that said, we'll return to the Riviera Maya and have every intention of going back to "our house", Villa Gummerson, at Soliman bay.

      Perfe'cto.

Left on 03/21/2011 for a stay in November 2010

Villa Gummerson is perfectly situated between akumal and Tulum with merely a 20 minute drive in either direction to get to everything that you would like to do and see including good restaurants, fun adventures, and nightlife. However, the Villa itself is so well-maintained and perfectly laid out that there are many times that there is no reason to leave -- with the pool on one side of the house and Tankah Bay on the other, it is great for just hanging around the house; perhaps snorkeling at the Casa Cenote or sunbathing on the beach. With a caretaker and a cook right on site (her dinners are fantastic), there is, really, nothing to worry about. Honorio ( the caretaker) knows the area well, has great suggestions, and can even take care of small medical emergencies, if needed.

The house itself is gorgeous. Very well built with huge bedrooms and master bathrooms. And, the area of Tankah is very easy to walk around in; and, having the Casa Cenote Restaurant right next door is extremely convenient -- good food during the day (especially the Sunday brunch); a quiet drink in the evening. And, yet, the area is relatively quiet at night. The Gummersons have "planted" their house in the perfect location in the perfect area of the Mayan Rivera.
