We stayed at Turangi Trout Lodge for 7 nights. The property is ideally situated for trout fishing and as a base for day trips . As my husband fished, my 2 children and I explored Taupo , trout museum , thermal pools etc . The location is peaceful and every evening we enjoyed our river walk . The house is beautifully decorated and well equipped . The layout with bedrooms downstairs and living upstairs suited our young family perfectly. Owner kindly left a bottle of wine to welcome us . Booking was hassle free and all communication was prompt . We loved our week at the lodge and will definately visit again .

The property is located right on the Tongariro river with access to some of the best fishing pools only 2 min utes walk away.
The lodge is very well laid out and with all the mod cons, which were very much appreciated after a hard day out fishing. The Lodge is beautifully decorated and easily accomodated the three of us.
The owner had the heating put on for our arrival and a bottle of wine ready to go, great communication and exceptional service. -

This property is ideal for trout fishing activites. The Tongariro River can be viewed from the deck and the fishing was excellent. The river walkway can be accessed from the front of the property and it is a 10min walk to the village with a supermarket and two good coffee shops. There are a range of restaurants nearby if you wish to eat out. The house was well presented with excellent linen and clean and tidy. We will definitely visit again.

AucklandA warm, comfortable and tastefully furnished fishing lodge.
Left on 12/11/2011 for a stay in December 2011
This tastefullly furnished fishing lodge is located in a perfect location - on the river bank of the Tongariro River and in a beautiful tree lined street with local shop nearby.
The lodge is perfectly set up for 4 persons with two large double bedrooms and two bathrooms., plus spa bath. Perfectly equipped for dining -in and enjoying the tranquility of the river. Every amenity is of the highest standard, perhaps the addition of a dishwasher would add to the ambience. Would highly recommend this accommondation both in summer and winter for tourists / couples wanting to access the Turangi, National Park area.

The service is excellent. Booking was hassle-free and the host/owner was easily contactable. We arrived after midnight and found our way around easily - ``just like coming home feeling ``
The home is luxuriously comfortable for a relaxing stay and has the feel of being on holiday in a tastefully decorated african Safari lodge with all the necessary mod-cons for easy living. ( I am South african/Kiwi, so loved it )
The location is perfect, close to the river for trout-fishing but still private, with great views of the neighbouring hills from the upstairs lounge.
We loved the fact that the house is set all the way up a private drive - so no noise from the street, allowing for a nice sleep-in every morning.
Don't know what it's like staying there in winter, but noticed there was no fire-place, - however plenty of heaters and heat-pump should work well for winter.
Happy holidaying !

This property was slightly above our budget but it was money well spent. Beautifully built with a very defined interior style. There was wi-fi internet and a phone (helpful for ringing toll-free numbers to organize our outings). Kitchen was a good size. Might benefit from a fish steamer?
The property backs onto the river and a riverside walk. Fly fishermen can usually be seen dotted along the length of the river and the garden is pretty and well maintained. There is a balcony with barbeque to sit out and enjoy the sun, although we didn't use the barbeque. Turangi is a very small place but ideally located if you're interested in fly fishing, white water rafting. Julie was easily accessible by phone, and took the initiative to ask about what activities we were considering. She recommended a fly fishing guide who gave us an awesome experience fly fishing in a locale less than 10 minutes away. -

Left on 07/24/2011 for a stay in July 2011
Stayed at Turangi Trout Lodge for 4 nights. Right on the Major Jones pool. You can see the trout being landed from kitchen window. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms one with a large spa bath. No ensuite. One bathroom up and one down. Living is upstairs.
Spotlessly clean and warm although no open fire, heating all electric. Have stayed in quite a few places in Turangi but this is definitely the best both location wise and value.
Will be back -

Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USAA Great Self-Catering Fishing Lodge
Left on 05/16/2011 for a stay in April 2011
We have stayed at the Turangi Trout Lodge multiple times. In the summer, fall, and winter it is a terrific place to stay. The Lodge sits right on the Tongariro River by one of the best known pools, the Major Jones. The fishing on the Tongariro is wonderful. There are huge browns and a good amount of rainbows as well.
The Lodge is very well appointed. It has two comfortable bedrooms and two full baths. In addition to a modern kitchen, the Lodge has satellite TV as well. The barbecue grill on the deck is another plus. You can walk to town easily from the location.
In addition to the Tongariro, there are several other rivers near by with great fishing. And, you can always fish Lake Taupo or the Big "O", a shallow water lake with huge fish.
I currently do not ski, but there are ski fields nearby too as well as hunting areas.
This self-catering lodge is such a wonderful place to stay, that we have flown from the east coast fo the U.S. to visit for a number of years. -

New PlymouthGorgeous Lodge - Beautiful Setting
Left on 05/15/2011 for a stay in February 2011
We chose Turangi Trout Lodge as a place to meet up with our friends and relax for a few days. Being self-catered and set on the banks of the Tongariro River it was very private and relaxing. The lodge is decorated in african style and has a real cozy feel. We went to the supermarket which is just a few minutes away, and stocked up on food and wine and relaxed in the open plan lounge area. In the morning we cooked a full breakfast on the bbq and sat on the deck in the sun. We went for a walk along the track next to the river and observed a few fly fishermen. Would be keen to get lessons next time we stay. Its in a secluded spot but also approx 35 mins to Taupo for a day adventure. The owner is very friendly - would recommend Turangi Trout Lodge to anyone.
