Constructed of native wood from a nearby hillside and furnished with furniture built from native woods by a local artisan, Casa Montana is nestled in the mountain rain forest near Turrialba, Costa Rica. You will experience the serene, pure, mountain tropical environment studded with jewels of nature: colorful birds, forest frogs, fragrant flowers, native orchids, and myriads of unique, tropical plants. The gentle mountain breeze and the soft rainfall will quiet and soothe your soul. A mere twenty-five steps from the front door you will enter the private Orchid House which contains a collection of orchids. Be sure to relax on the hammock on... the front porch where you can see the nerby volcano's plume reaching into the sky above. You will find opportunities for relaxation, hiking, bird-watching, nature walks, white-water rafting, or sightseeing to nearby attractions. You are sure to experience sweet memories that will calm your heart and inspire your soul.

You are in the premier bird-watching territory of Costa Rica with over 450 bird species in the area. You will be able to observe many of these right on the grounds of Casa Montana and the surrounding paths. The day is full of an orchestra of sounds from the mournful call of Little Tinamous to the croak of Keel-billed Toucans in the high tree-tops. If you are lucky, you may see the Snow-capped Hummingbird in the blue verbena hedge close to the Casa Montana.

Birding is available within walking distance at the adjacent hotel, Rancho Naturalista, or by short excursion to excellent locations, such as Tapanti Natl Park, Irazu volcano, and more distant locations such as Savagre, or Caribbean locations. A great farmer’s market occurs in downtown Turrialba on Friday and Saturday mornings, with local and imported fruit, vegetables, famous Turrialba cheese, and other foodstuffs. The vegetables grown on nearby Volcan Turrialba mountainside are fresh and delicious. Be sure to try some famous Turrialba cheese which has a fresh dairy flavor. The town square is an interesting spot to relax below massive ancient trees covered with orchids and bromeliads.

Additional Location Information

Casa Montana is located just outside of Barrio Tuis, a small village with a small restaurant, grocery store, and bus stop.

La Suiza is a larger village about three more miles down the road towards Turrialba. La Suiza has a bank, an internet cafe, several grocery stores, a meat market, and a vegetable, fruit market. Also a nice hardware store, El Colono.

Turrialba, bustling with activity, is the largest town close by. It is about ten miles northwest. You can find a wide variety of basics in Turrialba. A bicycle shop, retaurants, motels/hotels, barber shop, banks, supermarket, tourist shops that cater to tours to most Costa Rican locations.

  A wonderful stay in this secluded mountain cabin! Clean and comfortable, quiet. Landscaping impeccably maintained. Birds singing in the forest. Truly a paradise that I enjoyed immensely!
