TorontoAmazing view
Left on 09/20/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We (2 couples) stayed at Oceanview retreat in aug for 3 nights and the only regrets we had was not staying there for more nights! Everything about this cottage was almost perfect: spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated (you could tell it was owned by an artist!), and the view was simply amazing. And we found everything we needed and more! when we arrived there was some fresh home-made cookies and cinnamon buns on the kitchen counter, and the kitchen and pantry was fully equipped with all we needed to cook our meal. They even had a blender and an espresso maker!

We arrived at Twillingate on a cold and windy June day to be happily surprised to find such a charming cottage to stay in. The view from the cottage was awe inspiring with a 360 view of the ocean and surrounding area. With a welcoming fresh loaf of bread and squares and a cosy space to relax in, it was a great spot to take in the view and kick back.It has a nice side deck from which to watch the ever changing seas and look for wild life helped by a telescope from which to admire the night skies. It was a great place to visit even in the worst spring they'd had in years and I hope to return to enjoy it in nice weather. I'd highly recommend it to any travellor

Left on 11/21/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We were a group of 2 couples, and can honestly say this was the best stay of any in our month long trip in June/July 2011. The accommodation was second to none, the view was spectacular, and your hospitality was excellent! The town of Twillingate is very charming with lots of good food and interesting places to visit - all within a few minutes drive!
We all agreed that if we return to Newfoundland that we will definitely make the Ocean View Retreat our first priority!
Thank you for your wonderful hospitality!

The home had every amenity you could imagine. Top of the line kitchen and the most comfortable beds. So clean and inviting. You feel at home the minute you enter the premises. There are many places to eat and the people are very friendly. Even though the weather was cold and wet the scenery was magnificent and hiking was a great passtime. I can't wait to come back home again to The Ocean View Retreat in Twillingate. It is food for the soul.

This was our first time staying at the Ocean View Retreat but it will not be our last! As soon as we arrived at the property, we relaxed. The cottage is private and the location can not be beat.
The personal touches do not go unnoticed- local artifacts catch your interest and hand knit slippers are waiting to keep your toes toasty.
Although the property has all the modern conveniences, including Wifi, we found ourselves sitting quietly enjoying the view.
We recommend this property to anyone looking for a vacation rental. We will be planning a longer stay next time! -

No surprises here. The Ocean View Retreat was at least as good as the raving reviews we'd read about the place and looked just like the pictures on the website depicted. Its a great place to stay either as a couple or as a family. The next time we venture to Twillingate we'll definitely be checking into the Ocean View Retreat.

I visited The Ocean View Retreat in Twillingate in 2010 with my husband and a friend who came over from Wales. We absolutely loved the house and the area, including the many walks in the area. Fogo Island is a must see. We have rented the house for two weeks in 2011, I am counting the weeks.

This two bedroom cottage in the heart of Twillingate was nicely laid out with an outstanding view. Housed with all the amenities, the house was our base camp to travel throughout the area exploring Nfld. The check-in was seamless and site very relaxing and quiet. Overall we would definitely visit again the next time we are in Nfld.

What a gorgeous location!! It is situated on a superbly elevated location to overview village and bay, quiet, remote and still close to restaurants and shopping, spacious and perfectly equiped. We would definitely not know what else there should be to spend a unforgetable stay in the north of Newfoundland. We spent hours with the binoculars on the terrace or in front of the windows in the living room. Well, maybe iceberg, because when we were there, none were around!!
Thank you for making the Ocean View retreat avaibable to "public". -

Arrived after a 4.5 hr drive from St. John's... to a magnificent view!! Nestled high on a hill overlooking the bay, wow can't get any better than this!!!
Check in superb!!! The house, words cannot fully describe! Tastefully decorated, and fully stocked, you couldn't have asked for any more. Comfortable beds, plenty of room for four adults to relax and sight see. Mike and Cindy have outdone themselves and obviously have the traveller in mind. Loved our stay so much we are returning in 2011 -

We went to Newfoundland for the first time this year with our two kids (11 and 14) and were in Twillingate the second half of our stay. Had I known how wonderful it was going to be - I would have stayed longer. The accomodations were gerat, clean and we couldnt find anything that Mike and Cindy hadnt thought about and would need. The views, the people - all we did was explore the small village of Twillingate. We also spent alot of time with 'Skipper Jim' who took us fishing for Cod (and believe me - we caught alot) or just out for a few hours on the water sight seeing. Amazing - will be going back as soon as possible.

Came here for my 50th birthday present after picking up a card in a hotel in St. John's. What a wonderful gift. Temendous location and the accommodation was better than we could have hoped. The only gripe we had was the difficulty in finding a reasonable food store. All in all a totally enjoyable holiday and would recommend to anyone looking for somewhere remote and peaceful.

The cottage was beautifully appointed and very clean. Not only that, it came supplied with binoculars and a telescope to admire the great views. A very thoughtful touch. Everythinng about the Ocean View retreat was first class and we highly recommend it. It is an excellent base of operations in the area as the hikes are interesting, and the evening entertainment is fun.
Alas no icebergs in the bay this time, but it didn't stop us from watching constantly, libation at hand.

TorontoMost amazing vacation home ever!
Left on 05/03/2010 for a stay in July 2008
My husband and I searched the internet for weeks, looking for the perfect getaway. It wasnt until we saw a commercial about Newfoundland that we knew where we wanted to go! "It was as far from Disney as you can get", as they said, and they werent kidding!! We wanted to see icebergs, whales, old fishing villages, history!!! We got it all, and much much more. We truly got one of the greatest vacations ever. The Ocean View retreat in Twillingate was our number one choice, we actually stayed in Newfoundland for almost 3 weeks, with one week in Twillingate and the others at a couple of other vacation cottages, one in Bonavista and one in Gros Morne. Twillingate was truly above and beyond all the others...it was private, cozy, beautifully positioned, well priced, and very clean. We especially loved the little touches...so many to list. My only real complaint about the entire week was that the BBQ ran out of propane right in the middle of grilling steaks one night...Cindy and Michael had someone bring up a new tank within the hour, AND they brought over some great ribeyes for the inconvenienve.
The icebergs in the area were starting to fade but were still incredible, the boat tours were so amazing and professional. The evening times at touton house with the split peas was also a great memory.
We cant wait to come back.
It is a vacation we still talk about today... -

Everything about our stay in Twillingate was delightful, and it all began with our accomodations. The house is perched above the town and very private. The morning light floods in and the deck is a perfect place to have your morning tea and coffee. The house had absolutely everything we needed - cozy bedrooms, comfortable chairs, an efficient and well appointed kitchen. We found ourselves very much at home, not only with the house but also in Twillingate and surrounding area.

My wife and I stayed at The Ocean View Retreat several years in a row. We find the cottage very well appointed, very high quality furnishing a finishes. The road leading to the cottage is a little rough in spots, but the placement of the cottage over the ocean is well worth it!!! Such a private location, great hiking around, we actually saw several whales right from the deck...a little too late for the icebergs unfortunately, but we plan on returning soon to catch them before they melt. All in all one of the greatest places to stay in the world!! Michael and Cindy were fantastic to us as well, very informative.

My husband and I have actually stayed at Ocean View for three summers in a row and I must say that Cindy & Michael have set the bar very high, so much so that each time I stay elsewhere I am always comparing them to Ocean View. Every amenity is provided for and then some. The cottage sits high on a ridge overlooking the town, harbour and ocean, fantastic views from the large deck. I have witnessed icebergs in July and even a caplin run..There are a few quaint restaurants in the area that serve delicious Newfoundland traditional fare and many small communities in the area that are great for exploring on day trips.

Conception Bay South, NewfoundlandTruly magical
Left on 03/04/2010 for a stay in May 2009
We stayed at the Oceanview Retreat during May, during iceberg season, so it
was quite spectacular. A massive iceberg moved slowly around the bay during
our time there, and the pack ice drifted in and out with the tides. The views,
from one of the highest pieces of land in Twillingate, were breathtaking. And
the cottage! It's to die for... Clean and spacious, with quality furnishings and
appliances. I especially liked the antique curios that were scattered about -
truly an elegant touch. On top of that, there was a DVD player and a stash of
DVDs, local books, plus games and activities for the kids. The large picture
windows offer a panoramic view of the bay, and the wrap-around deck must
be amazing on a warm summer's evening. We will definitely be back, but we
want to stay longer this time. Three nights is just a tease! -

I had a chance to stay at this retreat/house over the Canada Day holiday and it was number one! My wife and two youg children stays for three nights and the place has it all from puzzles, movies to video games to keep them busy if you need to stay indoors! But it is the outdoors that makes this place you feel you are in another world!! The Panoramic views are one of kind! Your back yard is truly seclusion with a beautiful walking trail and ocean view surrounding you. I would go up every night with a glass of wine and my 4 year old daughter to watch the sun set these memories will be with me forever! My wife and I enjoyed the fully equipped house including a BBQ and lobster boil pot which made it feel like a home away from home! We loved it I cannot say enough about it!! We hope to make this an annual retreat!! Just to close the owners Mike and Cindy a big thank you for sharing this gem with visitors to Twillingate and for looking for the little details to make someone’s stay that much more….cheers

Toronto, ONRelaxing - Great Views
Left on 02/22/2010 for a stay in June 2009
As a native Newfoundlander it was a pleasure to stay at The Ocean View Retreat. We stayed there for three nights, and the local area was great, with lots to do for the 'tourist'. The Retreat was very clean, and bright. Everything was just as advertised, and everything that one could ever need. We did have a slight leak in the ceiling one evening, but what can one expect with the fierce winds blowing in from the ocean, and this is nothing new to Newfoundlanders who are used to dealing with living in the middle of the North Atlantic. My only concern is that we didn't get enough time to spend just relaxing as we had to travel around the island for family functions. We will definately return to the Retreat !! My thanks goes to Michael and Cindy, although we didn't see them, did ensure that everything was going well, and made us feel right at home.

Thanks for your review! In fact the storm that you experienced did a lot of damage to our cottage....we had to have the roof replaced, our barbeque replaced, deck repaired, bathroom work, trim work....it must have been quite the storm!!! We look forward to seeing you back in the future.
