Complimentary parking for 3 cars. 1 block to A-J's Dockside Restaurant, 6 blocks to 12th Street beach (walk is all along the marsh to Butler Avenue). Great location for bike riding! Oysters clacking in the marsh will lull you to sleep each night.

The Doodlebug is charmingly decorated and very clean. We loved the nice hardwood floors! The best part was the big screened in porch where we had coffee each morning with a cool breeze coming off the marsh. The sunsets were lovely over the water. This was a nice private cottage which we really liked. We really enjoyed our stay and the only suggestion is new mattresses for the king bed and sofa bed. The queen bed was very comfortable.

We couldn't be happier with our stay at Doodlebug. The place was immaculate. The location just off the marsh was wonderful. The screened in porch was just what we love. Looking out at the marsh in the early morning and late evening at sunset was spectacular.Listening to the birds singing. It couldn't get any better. The place is close to everything. It's in walking distance to aj's Restaurant and the beach is a short walk away. It's just a great place to stay and relax. The Mermaid Management people do a great job in keeping this property in wonderful shape. We'll be back soon.

Doodlebug Cottage was everyting that we expected and more. The location across from Horse Pen Creek was by far the best spot. Very quiet and relaxing. The sunsets were beautiful. Listening to the oysters clacking at low tide was a real treat. We rode our bikes many places on the island and felt very safe and comfortable. I can't wait to come to Tybee again and stay at Doodlebug Cottage again. I would recommend Mermaid Cottages to anyone. Thank you for a vacation that we will never forget.

We loved everything about Doodlebug from taking our coffee across the road to the marsh chairs every morning to sitting talking on the screened porch until bedtime every evening. The pleasant walk to aj's for dinner was convenient, the food delicious and the walk to the beach was pleasant and easy as well. Our favorite though, was sitting by the marsh watching the birds, tides and sunsets. We'll definitely be back!

"Check-in" to Doodlebug cottage was simple and easy, as soon as we stepped inside, we forgot the tiredness of the long drive and felt right at home. We were very pleased to see the name tags for pets and a big jar of natural dog biscuits, our dog Grace was very happy too! We searched for a special get away, a road trip with our lovely dog, a quiet and relaxing vacation with pet-friendly accommodations, and we found it at Doodlebug! The cottage is clean and comfortable, we appreciate having some spice jars in the kitchen, detergent in the laundry room, plenty of towels and about everything we need for a nice stay. We love the covered parking for our car. The view of the marsh is very peaceful. We had many lovely walks around the island. Thank you Diane and everyone in the management team, we will definitely tell everyone about our wonderful experience with Mermaid Cottages in Tybee Island, we plan to return for a reunion within a year or so. There is good karma with Mermaid Cottages and the management, the people behind the scene who made everything possible for us to have such a great vacation, we are very grateful - thank you!

Doodlebug is a perfect place to relax. Away from noise and with a great view, it was peaceful and quiet. The screened porch was delightful; the only thing missing was a swing! A nice fenced back yard for our dogs too. Our only real complaint is that the king sized bed had definite dips in the mattress; it's obviously old and needs replacing. The featherbed on top did help though. However, we will be staying at Doodlebug again!

This is my second time staying in a Mermaid Cottage on Tybee. Both homes were wonderful to be in. The Doodlebug has recently had some improvements - My brother and sister-in-law have stayed here before and were very pleased when they saw the facelift. The home felt very comfortable and we had everything we could possibly need. It was a wonderful time. We will be back!!!

We had a lovely, peaceful visit to Tybee and Doodlebug! This cottage is very comfortable, with everything we needed, and in a serene marsh setting. The bed was very comfortable, as was the living room and screened porch seating--and the sunset was spectacular! The fenced back yard was very convenient for our aged dog, and the pretty and practical flooring meant very easy clean-up if he had a bit of an accident! Doodlebug is a bright and cheerful cottage that we will request the next time we decide to visit Tybee! Mermaids are wonderful folks to deal with and certainly make renting a vacation place easy!

Doodlebug was exactly as depicted! The air conditioner worked great (it was Hot- could have been an issue but wasn't); and everything was squeaky clean! Barb went above and beyond to make sure our stay was wonderful. Ours was a last minute trip and we weren't at all sure about staying in that area of the island; the marsh was soothing and serene in a way we never expected, and the beach is just a few minutes away! The screened front porch was our mainstay- watching the marsh with all the birds, the jumping fish (no, they weren't sharks and whales- they just sounded like it!!) and the glorious sunsets- just perfect! It was such a good experience that we're planning our next trip already and will definitely be staying in a Mermaid Cottage!

Nice place to stay. Walking distance to the ocean, and beautiful sunsets on the marsh across the street. The cottage was just the right size for the 4 of us, but seemed a little out dated, and the landscaping was unkept. Overall a good place to stay. lots of comforts of home, and bikes we would have enjoyed if we didn't have our young kids with us..

We have been to many different beach resorts from the Carribbean to Gulf Coast to atlantic Beaches but this stay at the Doodlebug in Tybee is now our favorite. Being on the Marsh was just delightful! And bringing our Westie was so convenient; he loved the backyard. Loved having the grill to cook on and all the kitchen supplies. We made 2 dinners, a lunch and 2 breakfasts there. We did laundry there twice. We used the bikes once, and used the DVD player almost every night. Everything worked great! We spent 2 days around Tybee and 2 days around Savannah--ate at some great restaurants (The CrabHouse,Uncle Bubba's,Fannie's, The Breakfast Club, and The Pirate House in Savannah). Our teen daughter said her favorite part of the vacation was the Doodlebug Cottage!

All in all, this was a good experience for us. The place was nice and comfortable, yet the furniture very outdated and old. The dock was unusable, and it would have been nice to have a door on the one bathroom!!! This was a good value in a beautiful place!

We all had a great time, it was such a comfort being able to take our pugs on vacation with us. Sitting on the front porch in the morning with our coffee and the evening watching the sunset was positively addicting. The cottage was set up so well with everything we could possibly need or want. We loved having bikes available, it was fun riding all around the island. Diane and the other folks from Mermaid were so accommodating and friendly. Don't miss dining @ Sundae Cafe and shopping @ Seaside Sisters. Loved the whole experience and will be back.

We loved everything about our visit to DoodleBug Cottage and Tybee Island, it was a true escape from the real world.
We loved the cottage location, screened porch and the sunset views were incredible.
We loved having the grill and visited the seafood store for lots of wonderful seafood!
Ann from Mermaid Cottages, even brought over a map detailing the location of the other cottage locations so we could view other locations for our return visits. We felt like we were visiting with an old friend!
We will definitely be back, are already looking forward to next year!

The weather was quite nice for August. Typical afternoon clouds and showers were the perfect excuse to rest on the porch and read. Early morning walks, mid morning beach sitting on the back river and afternoon naps/reading were the perfect end to summer.
The home is great for 2 couples, chairs on the bluff make afternoon sunsets better than perfect, bikes provided to transport you all over the island make sight seeing fun. The beds are very comfortable and the kitchen is stocked with everything you need. The back yard is a nice place with chairs and a new gas grill. The Tybee Market, just a few blocks away, has some of the best beef (great filets and hamburger meat)I have ever tasted. Local shrimp too.
Can't wait to go back - Fall would be nice. -

My husband and I are Tybee Island vets.We lived there 20 years ago for two glorious years, but moved back home (to Pittsburgh, PA) because we missed our families. What a mistake! We have never stopped thinking about Tybee, and have vacationed there practically every summer since we left. We have stayed at many different condos/cottages over the years and Doodlebug is by far the very BEST! The view of the marsh from the huge screened-in front porch is exceptional - from morning coffee to late night cocktails. The fenced in backyard was perfect for our two dogs - we just let them right out the back door. The king-sized bed in the master bedroom was AWESOME! It's like my husband had his own zip code while we were sleeping - it was like having my own bed! The cottage is beautifully furnished and has all of the amenities one could ever need or want. A mere block to A.J.'s Dockside and the back river pier. Easy biking to 16th Street and all of the action, yet laid back and private. I can't say enough about Doodlebug and Mermaid Cottages. Superb accomodations by true Tybee-ites who really "get" the whole Tybee experience and want all who visit there to "get" it, too! We will definitely recommend Doodlebug to friends and family and be back next summer for sure!

I was fortunate to stay two separate times at Doodlebug this summer. Once
with my kids, and another time with my best friend (we had visitors come and
go - we called it Mom Camp!)
The best view on Tybee hands down! The bluff for sunsets or lazy reading or
listening to the clacking oysters! The porch was our living area for all times of
day and night! Beautiful backyard with a grill - use the adirondacks to hang
with the grillmaster for sure. We biked EVERYWHERE, and I mean EVERYWHERE!
I look forward to returning to Doodlebug Cottage! -

Attitude"....and I made it up so it's as unique as Tybee and Doodlebug!!!
I was able to introduce Tybee to my sister and a friend Lise both from South
Jersey.The quiet location with beautiful sunsets couldn't be beat.Being so close
to Savannah added to the trip since my son was graduating from SCAD and he
gave us a guided tour of Savannah and all it has to offer!!
The jewel of the Georgia coast is going to be an annual trip for me!!Next
time I'll stay for 2 weeks!!!

My family is stationed at Ft Riley ks and my husband is deploying for his second tour to Iraq. While surfing the internet I came accross this quaint little cottage that just seemed to speak to me? I lost my mom in March and somehow I think she was planning this tripLOL.
From the minuite I spoke to Diane I felt like this was going to be awesome. They kept in constant contact with us. Upon arrival on the island we were speachless and for two teenage girls that says it all. Fortunatly for us we got a flat right before getting to the cottage? If we hadn't we would not have gotten the wounderfull pleasure of having Ms Cindy come to our rescue. She made sure that we knew where places were to help and even gave us a quick tour. She showed where the scooters were that we could rent and where the local hot spots for Mylie Cyrus were of course the girls went nuts!!!
As soon as she pulled into the driveway my heart just sang it was the most adorable place I have ever seen!! Once inside we felt like we had just got home? The house is just beyond perfect. The screened porch is wounderfull and when you walk into this living area that just screams WOW!
The bedrooms are great each has its own bathroom one even has a huge tub. The girls even loved the little tv/vcr in thier room.
The washer and dryer was great.The backyard was beautifull and the grill master loved the grill and couldn't wait to cook fresh seafood!! When the girls found the internet hookup wow they were trully shocked.
I think that my husband and I enjoyed being able to sit out on the marsh late at night and listen to the oysters. It was so peacefull and early morning coffee was just spectacular!! Breakfast on the porch WOW is all we can say.
The only complaint we had was the beds were so comfy you wanted to stay in them!!!We rented scooters and the beach was spectacular! Everything about your island is amazing and this will be our family getaway forever! Thank you for the memories you created for us!! -

Dealing with Mermaind Cottages Vacation Rentals seemed effortless. Web site was very helpful and accurate in description of the cottage. Correspondence with Diane for reservation via email was timely and informative. Doodlebug cottage had all the amenities, and then some, for an enjoyable no-hassle stay. It was very comfortable and cozy and the large, screened-in porch was great for morning breakfast and evening sunsets. The quiet residential location offered fantastic views of the marsh and proximity to beaches and restaurants. We will definitely book Doodlebug Cottage on our next visit to Tybee Island.

We had a fabulous stay at the Doodlebug in April with two other couples that we have known for many, many years. Since we all live over 350 miles from each other, we don't get to see each other often. It was great. The Doodlebug was everything it was advertised to be with a well supplied kitchen, a wonderful front porch over-looking the marsh on a quiet street. The bird-watching and the sunsets were awesome! We loved the local art in the cottage and outside the yard was filled with beautiful azaleas in full blossom. Cooking was fun with 3 great cooks but we also enjoyed AJ's and Sting Ray's which was just a walk away. Riding bikes, walking the beach, visiting Tybee Lighthouse, Fort Pulaski and a 3-hour kayak trip with Sea Kayak Georgia were the highlights of the trip. We would definately go back again. Tybee is a wonderful place and Mermaid Cottages was great to deal with in every way!! Thanks so much

We stayed at Doodlebug Cottage for a girls' getaway weekend, and we couldn't have asked for a better stay! The cottage is adorable, and we had everything we could have wanted. The view across the marsh was delightful to wake up to, drinking coffee on the screened porch, to watching the sun set over the reeds and water. We are definitely coming back to Tybee and Mermaid Cottages! Thank you so much for your hospitality and advice on where to stay.

Doodlebug Cottage has one of the best locations on Tybee. It sits on
a lot across from the marsh on a quiet street- so relaxing and so
beautiful. The reason we chose Doodlebug was for the sunsets which
did not disappoint us. Doodlebug claims to sleep 6 which would be
difficult since both of the bathrooms are only accessible through the
bedrooms. And the pull out sofa bed would discourage anyone
wanting a comfortable night's sleep. With that being said, it is the
perfect spot for two couples.

Two of my best girlfriends and I rented the Doodle Bug cottage for a three night stay. The cottage definitely lived up to our expectations. It was very neat and clean and in a great location. The only thing we had to bring was food. Everything else was furnished. I highly recommend this cottage and also booking through Mermaid Cottages. Diane Kaufman made sure everything went smoothly. My friends and I plan to return in the future with our families.

I have visited Tybee Island several times. We saw Doodlebug Cottage and were enticed by the sunset discriptions and the marsh views while being so close to the beach and pier. The cottage is more than charming and has all one
needs to settle in. I have been going to St.
Simons for 50 years, but it has become a very
upscale golfclub island. Tybee is a place like the vacations I took as a young girl. I cannot recommend it more highly for those looking to slow down and travel back in time. Bring everybody from grandma to the babies. You will surely love it. -

The Doddlebug is the 2nd Mermaid Cottage we have rented in the past couple months...Diane was a great help and very accomodating. Both cottages were a dream, clean, well furnished, very special places to be, I fell in love with the Doddlebug and the marsh side of the Island. Incredible sunsets, very serene.
We would highly recommend and would love to return.. -

This was an annual "girl trip" to attend the Southern Lady Celebration (sponsored by Southern Lady Magazine) which was held in Savannah Oct 10-12. We were so thrilled that the event was in Savannah and made arrangements to srrive several days early to learn about and enjoy the charm of this historic city. A dear friend lives in Savannah and recommended Mermaid Cottages for our stay prior to the event. We rented Doddlebug Cottage and found it to be very charming. We loved Doodlebug, Tybee Island and Savannah. (definitely recommend a tour of historic Savannah) Wish we could have stayed a full week.
Our event will return to Savannah for 2009 and we will be coming in ahead of time to stay at one of the cottages. Maybe even bring the guys this next time (maybe!!). Thanks so much to Diane and all cottage owners for participating with Mermaid Cottages. We did drive by several of the other cottages and love the concept of the true "beach home away from home". -

This is an adorable rental with very nice decor and conveniences.
The screen porch affords an awesome sunset view of the marsh;
the photos advertising "Doodlebug" cottage do not lie.
Diane Kaufman and the staff at Mermaid Cottages go the extra
mile in the initial bookings, quickly responding to
communiques, and providing information about Tybee and
environs.
Despite my husband having a very bad cold, we had a
thoroughly enjoyable stay and are making this our annual
"beach fix" destination.
On the negative side...it rained our last day; even the Mermaid
Cottage staff couldn't remedy this. The porch was a great place
to sit and read. -

We spent a week in the Doodle Bug cottage and thoroughly
enjoyed the amenities of this cottage. Especially enjoyable
was the screened in front porch and the fenced back yard. I
loved sitting out on the porch in the late afternoons reading
and napping! The back yard was nice to have for our dog to
play.
The kitchen is well stocked; we cooked every meal at the
cottage and found all of the utensils, pans, etc that we
needed. This cottage has plenty of space as well, including
the charm of an older place.
This cottage is in a quiet area of Tybee Island - across from
the cottage is the back river and marsh and beautiful
sunsets. This is a very nice area in which to ride bikes and to
walk around. The IGA grocery store and AJ's Restaurant are
within walking distance.
We would recommend this rental for anyone who would like a
low key and relaxing getaway. -

This cottage was perfect. The best part was the front porch. It is completely screened in and it is the perfect spot to drink your coffee or tea in the early morning and even more perfect to watch the sun set every night over the marsh.
The cottage had everything we needed. A new grill in the back yard, plenty of towels, bikes for getting around the island, free intenet access, etc.etc.
The cottage is located in the center of Tybee Island which made it perfect access to everything on the island.
We highly recommend this cottage! -

Loved the porch and view of marsh. Wish we could have sat out on the dock that extends into the creek across the street from the house to fish and enjoy the breeze or to capture the beauty of the scenery in my art-work.
Carpet was a little old , but not a problem. Coffee maker didn't work well. Layout was nice.
Location to AJs and beaches was nice really nice.
The Typbee Information Book was missing some pages that would have been helpful.
Back yard and porch was perfect for our dogs as well.

Doodlebug was the best! Mermaid Cottages definitely knows how to make guests feel right @ home! We had everything we needed right there and, the beauty and peace of little things such as the song of the birds, the friendly neighbors and Tybee in its natural state/magnificence were truly refreshing and breathtaking. We can't wait to go back:)

Very nice and comfortable house with a great front porch!
I'm sure watching the sunset from the porch in cooler weather is fantastic!
Aj's Restaurant is within in walking distance on the marsh was great for lunch!
Very quiet and only about 6 blocks from the beach!
There were a lot of pine needles with sap in the back yard, but after the lawn man cleaned it up, you could appreciate the large back yard, too.

We had a great time at Tybee. Mermaid made it so easy by giving us the combination to the lock box so we just drove up and went in. They were also great to deal with. The cottage was clean and really liked the fact there was a washer and dryer to do towels from the beach. We grilled out while there and was plesantly suprised there was a new grill. The beach was close and there was beach gear their that we could use so had no rental cost. The front porch was big with celling fans and looked out to the marsh. Was on the backend of the island so there was no noise very quit.
Would have liked to see something other than carpet in the living room, and two bedrooms. It looked old and dirty anything new would be better (vinyl, tile, new carpet). We would have no problems coming back to stay there or others run by Mermaid Cottages. -

Our vacation in the Doodlebug Cottage on Tybee Island was awesome. We've been to lots of beaches for vacation and this one was the best. Very laid back & relaxing. The cottage provided everything we needed and more. The bikes were so nice to ride around the island,we hardly got back in our car. Our dog "Keesha" loved her morning & evening walks around the neighborhood. The people there are so friendly,felt right at home.The restaurants there were all very good,loved AJ's just up the road. The sunsets were beautiful as was the oceanfront views.All of the waterfront beaches were nice,enjoyed sitting in the swings on the beach. Everything was clean & "Green",good job! Hope to return soon.

This is a delightful place to stay. Very spacious, clean, and with a wonderful screened porch and a view of the estuary. Within walking distance to great restaurants, but is on a very quiet street. Doodlebug Cottage surpassed our expectations. Highly recommended.

We loved our stay at Doodlebug cottage. It is cheerfully decorated, has plenty of space and the best part is the big front screened porch.
The location is great. Overlooking the marsh, it feels off the beaten path, but is only a few blocks from the main drag and the beach. We enjoyed bike rides all over the island on the beach bikes that come with the rental. We rode to breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evening. The kitchen is well-stocked with cooking utensils if you are so inclined. This is my second stay at a Mermaid Cottage. I hope to try them all! -
