Would of been nice to have had a sitting room down stairs. Otherwise it was fine. The children really enjoyed the pool. Would use again

We stayed at Sand Dollar in October of 2013 and had a fantastic time. Family from Ia, MO, TX and Ga came together for five days with ages ranging from 5 to 65. The house was beautiful! We spent most of our time on the upstairs porch that had more than enough room for everyone. The beach was a very short walk and the heated pool and hot tub kept the younger kids entertained. We also enjoyed the huge dining table where everyone could sit together for meals. This house made our family reunion one of the best we have ever had!!!

We had a great time! The house was large and beds were very comfortable! The only complaint I have is that the light in the swimming pool was out. I called 3 times, but never did get repaired. I know we were at the mercy of the pool company, but for $7,000 a week, we should have been able to swim any time we wanted! Other than that, everything was great!

Good but could have been better

Good location and plenty of room for our4adults and 7 children. Pool is smaller than it looks in the picture. There were som household items missing eg. A kettle, a dustpan brush, the vacuum cleaner didn't work. We would have been happy to keep up with a bit of the cleaning had these items been available. Also some kitchen utensils missing - would have been nice to know ahead of time so we could have brought things with us or the kitchen should be stocked better. We ended up buying a kettle to make tea. However, we still had a good time - the heat for the pool was awesome (we paid extra for this) and essential as it would have been too cold to swim otherwise. The kids had a great time in the pool and hot tub. It was also great to be close to the pier, ice cream, shopping etc. and nice that the IGa is just across the street. We drove into Savannah (loved it!), went to the lighthouse and the forts. All in all we had a good vacation! Read more
It's great to hear that your families had plenty of room to spread out and that you enjoyed the location of the property. We wish we had heard you were missing those items from the home while you were here as we would have been happy to send someone right over with anything you needed to better enjoy your stay, it's why we're here. We are glad the kids enjoyed the heated pool and that you found the pier and other attractions close by. We do hope you will hope to come back to Tybee and stay with us again.
Perfect location/beautiful home/one major glitch
Left on 08/23/2012 for a stay in July 2012 | Amy
The home was in the perfect location (easy walk for ice cream or for groceries) and was well appointed. Outside and inside seating was ample. Easy walk to the beach and the kids loved the pool/hot tub (although it is a miniature size). The laundry room has an outside access and was musty smelling, but acceptable. The only glitch was that there was a large rat that we met face to face on Thursday night of our stay. There were indications of a unwanted visitor upon our arrival (dry wall dust on countertops)and daily thereafter, but we wrote it off to palmetto bugs, which are to be expected in the South. Yes, we had some of the palmetto bugs, but we also had a large rat. The rental company sent someone out with a trap that night, but the rodent ate the bait and set off the trap, but was not caught. We found him in the upstairs living room and the downstairs closet. The rental company did not apologize or offer a discount on a future rental and the rat was not caught during our stay. We had 7 children in the house with us, so the fear the he might bite one of them was clearly conveyed. We had the impression that he had been there for a while, so beware. After the removal of the rodent I wouldn't hesitate to recommend renting this home. Read more
Ratatouille may have been somewhat cute in the movie, but no one wants to encounter any rodents in their own home, much less while on vacation. Unfortunately our semi-tropical climate is host to all sorts of pests and from time to time these unwelcomed visitors find their way in homes either by chewing through wood or sheetrock and even by someone innocently leaving the doors open to catch a nice ocean breeze. Our staff and the home owner reacted as soon your family reported a sighting and diligently worked to catch the creature with the assistance of a professional pest control company to assure the home is pest free. As you experienced, animals such as this are a bit elusive and typically hide from humans, thus making their immediate capture difficult. We do apologize that this rodent issue occurred during your stay and made you fearful. We are happy to hear that overall your family enjoyed your stay in Sand Dollar and we sincerely hope you will return again next year – this time with just the family you bring and without other uninvited guests!

Beautiful Home with Wonderful Oceanview
Left on 07/28/2011 for a stay in July 2011 | The Lanza Family
Our extended family stayed at this home the week of the 4th of July and had a wonderful time. We all enjoyed the large home. It was as it was described, very nice. Our entire family enjoyed the pool and spa area after spending time on the ocean. We were able to sit on the porch and have a wonderful view of the fireworks display. The kitchen was large and had plently of space to accomadate meal preparation for a large family. The bedrooms were very comfortable. The large porch with ceiling fans and oceanview was a favorite hangout for us. There was also a large hammock we enjoyed. The constant ocean breeze was wonderful. We enjoyed the beach access from the property and the parking was very spacious. It was larger than we had imagined it would be,easily accomadating 6 vehicles and 1 or 2 additional at the back of the home. A nice surprise was the bicycles that were available for our use. We used them on a daily basis. We certainly had a memorable time and would stay in this home again. The management company was very helpful and check-in and out was a breeze. Thanks again for a wonderful stay!

Sand Dollar Review
Left on 05/12/2009 for a stay in May 2009 | Brittanw
The home was exactly as described and was nicely decorated, clean, and close to the beach (although you cannot walk straight there without cutting through the neighbor's yard, which they don't allow). The upstairs porch was great - with a view of the ocean and a strong afternoon breeze. My main complaint is that the common spaces were not adequate for the number of people that the house can sleep. We were a group of 15 within a very large group (100+), so we saw many other rental houses during our time in Tybee. We found that most other houses (even those that slept half as many as our group) had much bigger indoor living areas. Also, the kitchen is very small for 15, which is problematic as everyone always ends up hanging out in the kitchen. Read more
We're sorry Sand Dollar's floor plan did not meet your group's expectations. The house is an older renovated one. Newer beach houses built on Tybee have open floor plan designs to accommodate the way people use them, especially on vacation when lots of family members get together. To compensate for the smaller living space the owners have created two lovely outdoor porches for families' enjoyment on both the ground level and the top floor. There's over a thousand feet of furnished porch area which most of our guests find more than adequate.
Great get away!

The only issue I found with this is a problem with the lower neighbor. He makes "you" his business and your business his. The home was great and to share with friends or family it is so relaxing. I would do it again, but watch the parking and know exactly where the 4 parking spots are located.
Beautiful Home with great views but access limited

The home is a beautiful refurbished home in a quiet neighborhood. Decor and spaciousness a real plus. There was plenty of room for extended family Spring Break. Access to the beach however is not good. Neighbor that lives in house between this home and the beach is very unfriendly and would not even allow you turn around in his driveway little lone access the beach. Due to this you had walk up an alley, out to the main drag and back down the next street to access the beach. Many other homes on the island are a much better choice due to this problem. The TVR rental personnel are very easy to wok with I highly recommend their services.
Tybee is a beautiful low key island with a true beach town feel! Read more
We apologize for the confusion about the beach access from Sand Dollar. Tybee Vacation Rentals attempts to inform guests upon check-in that there is no easement from Sand Dollar to the beach. We know it's tempting to access the beach directly behind Sand Dollar however, the beach front property you would cross over, is private. Accessibilty from the twelfth street crosswalk is easier because there are no dunes to negotiate, much better for parents with small children and strollers.
Wonderful for Large Family
Left on 11/28/2008 for a stay in June 2008 | Don
We had 14 people in the house - 6 adults, 2 teenagers, and 6 children. It was GREAT!! It fit the configuration of the three families perfectly - 2 girls in one bedroom, 4 boys in another with two bunkbeds, 2 teenagers in one bedroom, and 3 adult couples in 3 separate bedrooms. We liked the large dining room and that the living room was upstairs away from the kitchen so the children could watch movies while meals were prepared. The big porches with lovely breezes was just an added bonus that proved a nice place to read and relax so matter how hot the weather. We are returning for another visit in 2009.
