Perth, AustraliaDidn't want to leave !
Left on 04/13/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Was able to get a sneak peak of Villa Romantica last year and knew I had to bring the rest of the family back.
Unfortunately there was only 3 nites available but it was worth every nite !
The villa is extremely private surrounded by a large wall.
I loved the private pool , the private and quiet reading area overlooking the rice paddies , the day beds , the kitchen area , the large bathrooms , the free wifi and having breakfast cooked by the ever friendly Komang every morning !
The room rates are outstanding , plus there are some excellent eating choices within walking distance from local warungs in the area .
Villa Romantica is very clean and the perfect place to relax and recharge the batteries.
Ideally suited for 2 couples or a family with teenage children.
Booking is easy , Steve answered by emails within 24 hrs each time , no deposit needed and I can't wait to return...for much longer !!! -

Booking the villa was very easy through the website and very helpful when we had questions and made any changes.
Villa Romantica is a beautiful villa and very private. Such a tranquille setting. Komang comes to make you breakfast each morning and clean the rooms. He added to a wonderful experience, as he was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were really nicely decorated and at night you can see how the villa got its name - very romantic.
Although the villa is a little way out of Ubud it was quiet and taxi's into Ubud were easy to find and cheap. There were restaurants nearby so you didn't have to go into town and a supermarket a short way away - easy enough to walk to up the hill and back unless you have lots of shopping then I would recommend a taxi.
Only downside is there is not a lot of hot water for a nice long shower for 2 people but when its hot that isnt a problem. Also due to the humidity it is hard to get clothes dry so a tumble drier would be handy
We loved it and will definitely be going back

Perth AustraliaA peaceful oasis away from the crowds
Left on 04/02/2013 for a stay in October 2012
We stayed in Villa Romantica in October 2012. The villas were recommended to us as a quiet oasis up in charming Ubud away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds. Contacting the villas and making our booking was a seamless, simple process. We outlined what type of accomodation we were looking for and Steve recommended Villa Romantica as we were two couples travelling together. The location was ideal for us amidst the peaceful pretty paddy fields , a 10 min walk to Ubud town and good traditional and very cheap eating places nearby plus a spa which we enjoyed often. The amenities of the villa were of good quality, very comfortable, serviced every day and certainly met our expectations considering the very economical cost of our stay. If there was a criticism, we could hear mice or rats in the ceiling at night. Steve also arranged for our airport transfers which was great. We enjoyed our stay so much that I have booked again for another stay.

Perth, AustraliaPerfect peaceful villa to explore area around Ubud
Left on 01/23/2013 for a stay in December 2012
We stayed for 4 days in December. The villa is very comfortable and extremely well cared for by Komang, who came each morning to prepare breakfast and clean. We had been in Legian for a few days before Ubud, (on our first ever trip to Bali), and were delighted that we decided to see a part of the island away from the main tourist area, as it was so different and very much more relaxing.
The villa is down a small dirt track in Penestanan, which was a good walk into Ubud, (or an easy taxi ride). Sitting in the viewing area watching rice being harvested, and the locals going about their business made us feel that we were seeing something genuine of Bali.
Small shops very close, and we found some great places to eat locally. Booking was very easy through Steve Castley, who also arranged a car to take us to the airport. We would stay here again. -

This Villa is sooo amazing, for that restful holiday. Very private & only a short distance to main shopping. Great restaurants & bars within walking distance. Was lovely looking out to the rice fields & not amongst the hustle & bustle. Would highly recommend this Villa as it is very affordable & quite 5 star. The pool was amazing & lovely when lit up at night.

We stayed at the villa during our Summer vacation in Summer 2012. The villa is very well kept and the service by Komang was excellent. He prepared many wonderful breakfasts and helped us pick lunches from the Ubud area. Steve was very knowledgeable and helpful with arranging activities in the Ubud area. He helped set up a private painting lesson for our family at the villa with a local artist, Ms. Triani. We brought home many wonderful paintings. Don't miss the relaxing massages at Eve Spa. Our family will definitely stay there again when we return to Bali.

We had a great stay at Villa Romantica. First, Steve Castley is totally responsive and helpful to requests and assistance. We met Steve at his office and enjoyed a very nice visit as he shared his insight and experiences of Bali. The Villa is a wonderful, private get-away and it has all amenities so there is no reason to even leave the property! Romantic is the descriptive word with private, high walls surrounding the pool and day-bed area. At night the house and pool mood lights, waterfall, reflective pool and sounds of Balinese music in the air under a starry sky – ahhh – nothing better. The property has Wi-Fi, a DVD player, two TVs and stereo system for all your entertainment needs. The washing machine helps keep up the clean clothes. The house is maintained by Komang. He is friendly as he prepares daily breakfast and cleans the house and pool without being intrusive. Immediately outside the front door is a small shop to pick up a cold beer, the forgotten razor or snacks, and if the friendly owners do not have it in stock, they will get it for you the same day. That is rarely found service these days. The Villa is a short walk down a dirt path which puts the building in the middle of rice paddies which adds more to the ambience. We totally enjoyed the experience!

After spending nearly 2 weeks in the hustle and bustle of Legian, it was so nice to spend a couple of nights in Villa Romantica. The place is beautifully appointed, the pool fantastic and the surrounds magnificent.
The kids spent most of the time in the pool, and my husband and I loved the rice paddy viewing area for an afternoon drink.
It was a shame we only stayed 2 nights, next time will be booking for longer. -

This villa is really wondeful. The location is closed from Ubud and is very quiet in middle of rice fields. We were staying 4 days and our only inconvenience was the departure time. The villa is wonderful for 4 to 6 personns and the service from Komang is wonderfull. A nice place to discover Bali and if i go back to Bali, i'm sure i will rent this paradise place again. It's the best place for the best price i've found in Bali.

Left on 07/28/2012 for a stay in June 2012
My husband and I stayed here on our second trip to Bali. We travelled with our young children and nanny. We love Ubud with the only slight drawback being the difficulty finding a nice villa where you can enjoy the serenity of Ubud without an inconvenient commute in and out of town centre. This place solved everything.
The villa is beautifully built and laid out. We loved the daybeds in the media area, and the outdoor dining. The garden was great for the kids to run around safely within the villa privacy walls.
In terms of logistics the laundry facilities were very handy. The shops within minutes by foot meant we never had a moment without necessities. We also had some of our favorite meals of our three week stay at the local restaurants within walking distance. Also large Bintang supermarket within 1 km.
The only slight criticism I can give is that we would have preferred king size beds to queen size, and the rooms seem to have enough room for that. Personal preference maybe.
I researched a number of villas online. This was even better value for money than it appeared online. We loved it and we love Ubud, so we'll definitely be back! -

Left on 07/24/2012 for a stay in July 2012
This Villa was the highlight of our trip to Bali. It is walking distance from the centre of Ubud but in a quieter area which made our stay even more relaxing. The whole experience was stress free as they organised a driver to pick us up from our previous destination and then dropped us off at the end of our stay also for a very cheap price. The villa is very close to delicious restaurants and great day spas so we didn't really feel we needed to venture very far anyway! The Villa is in perfect condition, with extrememly comfortable and luxurious beds (including day beds), a perfectly manicured garden with pool and becuase of the high walls and quiet location- absolute privacy and the feeling of isolation. We were only a couple visitng but the place is big enough to cater for groups up to 6-8! With a modern kitchen and large dining table it would be great for dinner parties with friends. Our favourite part was the private rice paddy viewing terrace- the perfect place for a sunset beverage! Koumang was very helpful and made us delicious fresh breakfasts including eggs (any way you want), toast and fruit salad every morning when it suited us- he was great! We were very sad to leave this place and can not wait for our next visit! Highly recommended!

Four of us stayed at Villa Romantica for 2 weeks and we would definitely recommend this villa. The location in Penestanan is ideal for staying in the Ubud area, as the village is perched out of town amidst the rice fields. The walk to Ubud is about 20 minutes via paths and staircases and transport by taxi is very easy. The management company and support staff were truly outstanding. We definitely plan a return trip and would contact owner Steve Castley (www.privateubudvillas.com) for travel and accommodation arrangements.

We spent ten wonderful days at Villa Romantica and can only describe the experience as amazing. Everything about the villa was exceptional - the layout, furnishings, rice field views and gardens were perfect. The attention we were given by Komang was top class as he attended to our needs and maintained the villa throughout our stay.
The villa is perfectly located with restaurants, shops, specialty shops, Eve Spa and many other services within walking distance.
We plan a return trip and will certainly contact Steve Castley at www.privateubudvillas.com as he arranges the complete package from arrival to departure for all guests. We highly recommended the services provided.

I would certainly recommend the villa. It's in a nice are of Ubud.
Nyoman , who does the breakfast and housekeeping is a nice guy.
So, a very good place.
However two remarks.
1. The bedrooms are next to each other only separated by the bathroom. I would suggest to the owner to do something about the sound isolation.
2. Noisy dogs, especially at night. I'm sure this could have been just bad luck for us.

Beautiful villa set in the rice paddies of Ubud. A short walk from the centre of Ubud.
Villa has its own gorgeous pool and is set in its own private setting. I would recommend this villa to anyone looking for a relaxing break but with plenty of options for things to do in the area. In the vacinity (within 3 mins walk) you have plenty of food options such as Bayu's Kitchen, Alchemy Juice bar, scooter/car rental, Eve's Massages and a few shops. -

We live in Indonesia and vacation to Bali a lot. We have now stayed in the Villa Romantica twice, and we will probably return again. The overall stay is great and booking with Steve through Private Ubud Villas is always easy. The villa is set down a narrow concrete path, so if you need door to door service then try a villa closer to the main road. Otherwise, it's the perfect getaway.

This villa is so comfortable set in beautiful gardens with a gorgeous plunge pool with 2 large bedrooms complete with en-suites. The TV/media area catches cooling breezes and is just the right place to hang out and relax. It is in a lovely little village a short distance by taxi from Ubud. We couldn't have been more pleased with the location and the people we met. Well worth booking for peace and quiet.

DarwinLittle hidden jewel, which we have loved.
Left on 03/08/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We have just spent a week at Villa Romantica, and we really don’t want to go. It has been a delight staying there, and the current photos on line don’t do this place justice. Things that we loved are:
1. The Villa is a new house and so has everything you would expect, as well as the unusual such as the viewing platform overlooking the neighbouring rice paddy’s.
2. Komang, the Houseboy, is incredibly proud of his work and goes out of his way to ensure guests are looked after and the Villa is well maintained.
3. Just up the lane there are 2 spas. Our favourite was Eve Spa. I had a 4-hand massage and it was the best massage I ever have had – incredible.
4. The Round Bar is on the main road at the start of the lane leading to the Villa. It is new and they have used recycled products (plastic bottles etc.) in the design, which is very funky. The bar is chilled out and we enjoyed evening cocktails there.
5. In regards to food, you could spend a month here, eating out every day, and still not experience every restaurant. Our favourites in walking distances are Bayu’s Kitchen (wholesome, tasty, very reasonably priced and they deliver to the Villa) and Bridges (next to Blanco Museum, spectacular setting, wonderful fine dining).
6. There is a new laundry just up the lane. They immaculately washed and ironed our clothes cheaply and with a smile.
7. Wayan the juice lady is a delight. She has a roadside stall 5 minutes walk away. Every day she picks locally grown fruit and vegetables, which she juices on order and then delivers to the Villa. If you wanted to do a juice based detox, this place is for you. If you are like us – juice based cocktails every evening, Wayan will be a delight.
8. The Villa is enclosed within a walled garden (typical Balinese style), which is just so private. You can just shut the world away in your own little bit of paradise.
I would just have two recommendations for future travellers:
1. At the moment the lane leading to the Villa from the main road is uneven. People with significant mobility problems would struggle. This may well be improved in time when the new car park at the top of the lane is built. Visitors with mobility problems would need to check with the manager at time of booking to see if the lane has improved.
2. If visitors are coming straight from the airport to the Villa, rather than getting an airport taxi, arrange for the Villa to send a driver to the airport to collect you. The Villa’s driver will only charge Rp200, 000 (approx. $20 australian) which is on par/cheaper than airport taxis. The Villa driver knows exactly where to bring you. As the Villa is currently not signposted and is down an obscure lane, having a driver who knows exactly where to bring you, especially if you are arriving late at night, is invaluable.
We plan to be repeat customers. -

We have just returned from Villa Romantica after 9 days in Ubud and i couldn't recommend it more. The villa was stunning, everything was so beautiful and the pool was perfect. Komang our house boy was wonderful and everyone we dealt with was so friendly. This villa is so close to exceptional restaurants, Spa's (we went to Eve's Spa at least 4 times while we were there) and a short walk or taxi ride into the heart of Ubud. We're already planning our next trip!

We are a group of 4 friends who stayed in this wonderful villa last october for 7 nights, and we can just only said that it was fantastic.
Everything was really clean and new. Great breakfast and nice pool. The villa is only around 15 minutes walk of Ubud market, in a very quiet area with some restaurants and spa. A good one restaurant is Bayu´s kitchen, you can phone then and they will bring you your order very fast.
