Penestanan is a lovely rice field village, which is also the centre for 'Young Artists' in Bali, and many other handicrafts. It is a comfortable 1.5 km stroll from central Ubud (one steep hill), a one hour drive from the airport, several beaches and the volcano in central Ubud. The rice fields themselves are car-free, although there is motorbike access, it is serene and filled with natural beauty, and much flora, fauna and wild-life. It is close to all the activities, yet in a unique and tranquil setting. Higher and towards the foothills of the volcano, still tropical but not as hot as the beach areas. This is the cultural centre of Bali, and besides the local artists there are several art galleries and museums, plus every evening there are traditional dance performances, besides local temple ceremonies, where visitors are always welcome. There are countless wonderful restaurants for all budgets, great night-life, yoga studios and access to every healing modality imaginable.

We stayed here inFebruary, we were looking for a place to escape and relax. This villa was perfect. The owner was prompt in replying to our emails and Ketut was so helpful during our stay.
We hired a motorbike to go into Ubud but loved the cafes in the little village so much that we ended up spending most of our time eating there.
There were some leaflets for local businesses in the villa which we found very helpful too.
The only negatives would be that it is very hard to find in a taxi (definately recommend pickup by Ketut)and that it is not a very private villa (but this didn't bother us at all). -

What did I like best, many things, being in a quite place, with access to a private pool. The location was excellent, far enough away from the noisy crowds but not to far to travel in by scooter. The place was clean and large glass windows brought the outside in. The caretakers, were very friendly and efficient and helpful. I enjoyed having access to a stove to make coffee which was provided and a fridge to store fruit etc even though most of the time I ate out. It was a real treat to have access to the kitchen. I really liked the indoor/outdoor bathroom. The hammock was also a special feature.

We had a really nice time in this place. Sweetest people working there and they took really good care of us during our stay. Close to Ubud but still a silent and calm place.
