Dramatic Secluded Luxury Villa Minutes from Ubud

Built on a bend of a small river valley and situated at the end of the “Path to the Sacred Spring" this truly astonishing villa is without question one of the most beautiful and tasteful accommodations in Bali, featuring a majestic, remote, very private and peaceful setting; the finest in design, construction and materials; and luxurious amenities. Although it is designed as a one-bedroom home, it contains three full baths, each on a different level and two of which are partially outdoor; four king-sized (or larger!) beds; a two-story interior waterfall; a fully-equipped modern kitchen; and a high-definition, surround-sound video theater (a...vailable optionally at an additional charge; large-screen television with DVD player and surround sound is also available elsewhere in the house). Marble, granite, and natural stone are used throughout, and over 25,000. man-hours have gone into to the hand-carved stone accents and intricately carved wooden doorways. Examples of many of Bali’s finest artistic endeavors are displayed.

Outside, the landscaped grounds boast a two-level swimming pool, large adjacent lounge/play area (with badminton court), intricately carved Balinese temple, stone sculptures, fountains, tropical landscaping, and an uninterrupted view of the river valley. Surrounded by a high wall, a feature of traditional Balinese architecture, the house and grounds are completely private and blissfully peaceful, yet are open to the near-180 degree view below and across the river.

Despite having accommodated up to nine guests, we are limiting our occupancy beginning January 1, 2013 to four. We do NOT recommend Rumah Cahaya for children under five for safety reasons.

Persons of religious persuasions which restrict exposure of women are not encouraged to rent Rumah Cahaya, as while it is quite remote and private it is also very open to the outdoors and thus visible from an appreciable distance. Rumah Cahaya is located at the end of one of the village of Penestanan's access paths to the rice fields, on the bend of a small river valley. This unique and special location provides tranquility and peace not often found so near the lively activity of Ubud, Bali's art center and one of it's major population centers. The area containing Penestanan's villa offerings is surrounded by Bali's iconic rice fields, accessed by walking paths, and is thus far from the noise of traffic or commercial activity. There are several excellent family-run restaurants within easy walking distance, and Rumah Cahaya boasts its own, privately leased and built, walking 'causeway' through the fields for convenient access to them, and to both the local market and nearby transportation, by which central Ubud is only minutes away.
Whether your goal is a quiet day of relaxation at the villa by the pool's unique natural setting or participation in Ubud's many cultural offerings or excellent dining venues, Rumah Cahaya is the ideal location. It is also the perfect base for exploration of Bali's 'outlying' areas of attraction: Candidasa and Amed to the East; Lovina and Pemuteran and the great volcanoes of Batur and Agung to the North; and the beaches of Seminyak and Canggu and the temple of Tanalot to the West - all more easily accessible from Ubud's central location.

  This is a fabulous villa for a couple in search of privacy, quiet, an exotic setting, and pool. The location is a short walk away from restaurants, massage parlors and taxi stand which gets you to Ubud in minutes for about 2 dollars.
  The family that come every morning to prepare your breakfast which includes copious amounts of local fruit, often from the trees on the property couldn't be nicer.
  Bruce, the american owner is very easy to reach via Internet, was very helpful in answering any questions we had about the villa. This was particularly nice as there was no language barrier to overcome
  From ubud, it is very easy to be driven to many popular destinations and it was always fabulous to know we were returning to our own private oasis.
  I can't think of a better place to stay and I am fussy. Don't hesitate to book this villa. The biggest the surprise is the entrance. You are on the main road and the driver stops at a hidden walkway. Then you discover a different world, filled with running streams, lots of villas and paths meandering around rice paddies till you get to your own perfect spot. Can't wait to return

  Ever better than the pictures - Amazing!

  My wife and I booked Rumah Cahaya for 8 nights for a family holiday with our 3 children (7,5 & 4 years old respectively) in august 2012.
  
  We looked forward to arriving, having seen the beautiful pictures of the villa on the website. However on arrival we realised that this amazing residence was even better than the pictures! (a pleasant surprise for us seasoned and sometimes cynical travellers).
  
  The location is perfect - yes, it is a 5 minute walk and 5 minute taxi to central Ubud - but that is what makes it so great. You have your own peaceful retreat away from the busy main tourist drag, but close enough to pop into town a couple of times a day should you wish.
  
  The local supremarket stocks everything at local prices, and we never had to wait for a taxi for the $3 trip into town. Not that there turned out to be many of these - our children loved exploring the house, gardens and playing in either of the two pools.
  
  Walks around the local village of Penestanan offer up wonderful little restaurants at excellent prices - some even do home delivery to Rumah Cahaya.
  
  But the highlight for us grownups was waking up on the 3rd floor master bedroom watching the sun rise over rice fields. It really felt like our own piece of paradise for those 8 days.
  
  The staff were farm and friendly, the daily breakfasts were delicious and Bruce the owner was always contactable throughout the booking process, our stay and also after our return.
  
  I cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough, and we are already thinking about when we might be able to return.
