Description
Built on a bend of a small river valley this astonishing estate is without question one of the most beautiful and tasteful accommodations in Bali, featuring a majestic, remote, private peaceful setting; the finest in design, construction and materials; and luxurious amenities.
Designed as a one-bedroom home with separate, private guest quarters (available separately), the large main estate home contains two partially outdoor 'garden' full bathrooms; two king-sized beds and two others (a double and a single "rollaway"); interior two-level waterfall; fully-equipped modern kitchen; large-screen television with fiber optic cable, DVD player and surround sound.
Marble, granite, and natural stone are used throughout, and over 25,000. man-hours went into the hand-carved stone accents and intricately hand-carved wooden doorways and cabinetry. Examples of many of Bali's finest artistic endeavors are displayed.
Outside the main house, landscaped grounds boast a two-level swimming pool, large adjacent lounge/play area, intricately carved Balinese temple, stone sculptures, fountains, tropical landscaping, and an uninterrupted view of the river valley. Surrounded by a high wall, a feature of traditional Balinese architecture, the house and grounds are completely private and peaceful, but open to the near-180 degree view below and across the river. Despite the fact that it is within walking distance of Bali's "city for art and culture", Ubud, this property will allow you to feel as if you are alone in the natural world.
IN ADDITION, a 2-bedroom, 2-bath bungalow (the "annex"), with its own small pool, was added on the grounds within its own surrounding wall offering complete privacy, yet convenient access to the estate grounds.
Separately walled and accessible either by means of its own entry or a lockable gate in the high villa wall, it is located beyond the large pool, at the bend of the river, and nothing but its roof is visible from the main house and grounds (please see photos). The Annex has its own separate listing, but for large groups of up to 10, the two properties can be rented concurrently.
The main house is ideal for couples (Honeymooners welcome!) or small families with children who do not require separate private bedrooms (more than two adults will likely not find the privacy here that they may require) while the adjacent annex features two ensuite queen bedrooms.
Beginning January 1, 2018 we are limiting the estate house to six adults, or two adults and four children. The annex will sleep four in two queen bedrooms..
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMERS: For safety considerations, we do NOT recommend the main estate house for toddlers or very young children due to the danger of falls from heights.
The location of this property was chosen for is unusual tranquility, due partially to the fact that it is not near any roadways. Although a motorbike access ENDS at the villa, a short walk of 4 to 5 minutes is required to access the property from the nearest AUTOMOBILE parking area; however, guests are met by a porter who will transport their luggage/belongings, and our house manage who will guide you to the property and give you a brief explanation of its amenities..
The house and annex are NOT air-conditioned. We chose to construct in the traditional Balinese open-to-nature style and have had no complaints about the absence of air conditioning. As both accommodations are located high above the bend of a small river valley, cooling breezes are usually present, and the villa, with it's 25' ceiling in the bedroom and 12' ceiling on the living level - both cooled by a atrium that contains a two-level indoor waterfall and several ceiling fans - is rarely uncomfortable.
Persons of religious persuasions which restrict exposure of women to view are not encouraged to rent this property FOR ITS PRIVACY, as while it is quite remote and private its pool area is very open to the outdoors and thus visible, although ONLY from an appreciable distance.

Response from the owner Thanks to Andrew and Michelle and their crowd. It would appear that the only reason this review didn't join the rest of the "five star" ratings was the problem with the exchange rate between US Dollars and British Pounds. At the time they made their reservation It was shortly after the vote to withdraw from the EU, and I sympathized with them at the dramatic drop in value of the pound. To make that obstacle more pallatable I made the property available at the lowest rate I've ever offered. However, once the agreement was made, I received slightly less (US$25) than the agreed on amount in US Dollars due to the poor exchange rate. I subsequently subtracted that difference from the deposit, which is standard procedure.
