ABOUT UBUD, BALI
---------------------------
Ubud, Bali’s renowned historical, cultural, and spiritual centre, is nestled in the midst of a natural tropical environment, lush green forests and spectacular rice paddies vistas. Ubud offers those seeking escape from their daily busy life a perfect environment to retreat and energize one’s mind, body and soul.
Until not so long ago, Ubud, which has always been the cultural centre of Bali, was a simple small village with few facilities. It has since grown into a small town, yet the area retained its laid back and relaxing charm. Today, Ubud enjoys a cosmopolitan community, where culture and art play a major part. Ubud is the home of Bali’s most renowned and unique painters and sculptors and Bali’s most famous museums and art galleries.
A wide variety of epicurean delights from simple local dishes to fusion and fine dining restaurants, well-being retreats and spas, as well as excellent shopping is available to suit everyone’s palates and tastes.
Ubud has been voted the number 1 city in Asia to visit by Condé Nast and Concierge travel magazines for 2010.
Enjoy walks through lush rice fields, or breathtaking sunsets by the river. Visit nearby volcanoes, spend a day rafting on the Ayung River, or simply relax and recharge your energy. Indulge in local culture and watch the renowned traditional Balinese ceremonies and Kacak Kacak dances.
One of the best ways to learn about Balinese tradition and culture is by observing the locals in their daily life routine. In the Ubud area, one can visit villages and local temples that have thankfully remained relatively unaffected by modernisation over the years.

The NetherlandsA jewel in the tropics
Left on 04/17/2013 for a stay in February 2013
Rina's place was originally recommended to us by a friend, and this is our second stay at this beautiful place. We were here in February and have been travelling around asia since then and did not have the opportunity to write a review earlier.
We now came back to Bali for another visit and decided to come back for another relaxing stay at Rina's place before going back home to Holland.
The house is very cozy and comfortable, beautifully decorated with understated style and a very relaxing athmosphere. The service is excellent, the place is always very clean with lots of comlimentary things such as fresh fruits, coffee and tea, etc. The owner Rina is extremely hospitable and helpful lady. She showed us around Ubud and the surrounding area, recommended us interesting places to see and local activities, good restaurants, places to shop, always at the best prices. We enjoyed very much our two stays at Rina's place and would recommend it to anyone who want to spend time in Ubud. We will be back next year! -

I just returned from my 3 weeks’ vacation in Bali. I book booked the villa for my whole 3 weeks stay and must admit that I fell in loved with the place on the first sight. It truly felt like home through my entire stay in Bali and must admit I also felt quite sad when I had to leave.
The owner Rina is a very professional, helpful, friendly & lovely host. She literally made sure that I have everything I needed at all times. To name just a few: upon my arrival she provided me a cell phone with a local SIM to use while in Bali, which was of big help in order to contact driver, book the spa etc. Also, I decided to use (based on Rina’s recommendation) the driver Dewa whom I found also very punctual and friendly at all times. The drive to Ubud took usually 15min for $6 return trip which is just fair. Rina was always available either on the phone or in person whatever I may need a help or info (tips for the trips, restaurants, spa booking). She made a booking to Gili Travangan Island (Speed boat, Villa) for a way better cost then I would ever manage myself. In summary, she is just one perfect host!
The villa was cleaned on daily basis by a local lady. As I stayed for 3 weeks, I was able to decide about the convenient times for cleaning in the mornings which I found very convenient, especially when I felt to sleep in. The place is spotlessly clean, clean towels every day, fresh mineral water available in ground and upper floor at all times, equipped kitchen and sitting area in the lovely garden. About the garden...it is one magical place to eat, sleep, read a book or do nothing at all.
In summary, with no doubt I would recommend Rina’s place to all my friends. It felt heavenly and if I was to come back to Bali again I would with no hesitation book the same.
P.S.: The reality precedes the pictures. -

Staying at this villa was a pleasure and a privilege!
The house is gorgeous and exactly as it was described. The cleaning lady did a great job every day. Everything was clean, and restocked as necessary. We weren't without any of the necessities while we were at the house.
Great restaurants are always near by, whether you rent a motorcycle, a bicycle or even use Rina's driver. Our favorite places were only 10 minutes away by bike.
We were greeted by Rina when we arrived and were supplied with fruit the first day. Having her as a landlady was the best part of the trip. She made transitioning in to a new place quick and easy. Through her we found great places to eat, the best moneychangers and great activities! If we needed anything, she was always a phone call away.
We wanted to rent bicycles for our trip and Rina even had them ready for us when we arrived! Not to mention at a better rate than we could have gotten ourselves.
Whenever we needed to get somewhere that a bike wouldn't get us, Rina's driver was always quick to pick us up. He charged great rates (we had to use another driver when our phone died once and he tried to charge us twice as much to get home) and was always friendly. He helped carry our bags and got us through the airport chaos asap.
I would recommend this Villa for any person thinking about staying near Ubud in Bali. -

Our stay at Rina's place could not have been better. Rina is a beautiful person who went out of her way to make things as easy as possible for us by arranging a driver, helping us organise our trip, recommending places worth seeing, restaurants, galleries. Real local knowledge provided which was so helpful. She even had our clothes laundered! The place was immaculate (cleaned everyday), great showers with one actually outside, breakfast and fruit provided. Everything you could possibly need - a home from home. We didn't want to leave!

Was a lovely place to stay, and Rina the owner went out of her way to help us choose what to do, where to go and organised taxi's/drivers for us. Would have liked to stay longer to get to know the Ubud area better.

Left on 12/19/2012 for a stay in December 2012
We have stayed only 2 nights in Rina's Charming Home and are greatly in love with it. It is more a home to us than a vacation accommodation. We loved laying around in the daybed, on the wooden long bench and enjoy the quietness and peacefulness of the surrounding.
We were particularly touched by the thoughtfulness of Rina to provide us with local SIM card for easy communication. But due to the incompatibility of the card size on our phones, Rina immediately went to buy one and passed it to us on the same evening at the restaurant.
We were really enjoying and the trip has been relaxing as Rina has helped to planned the route and places to visit with Pak Dewa, the driver. No hassle at all.
Rina has taken care of us with personal touch, more than just an owner. she even accompanied us to the Sari Organic farm.

PerthPerfect host with the perfect villa
Left on 11/04/2012 for a stay in October 2012
First up, the villa is even better than in the photos, unfortunately we only had 5 nights here, but it was perfect for our needs. The place is beautifully finished, and has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. The beds are comfy, the outdoor area great for relaxing after a day sight seeing, the bathrooms are big, and we loved the semi-openness of the downstairs bathroom that let you have a shower at night and see the stars.
What really makes this place special though is the owner, Rina. She met us on our arrival, and made it clear that nothing was to much trouble. We had complementary fruit, drinks and snacks already in the house, plus things for breakfast so we didn't have to worry. With over 200 places to eat in Ubud alone, she gave us a recommendation each night which never failed, and if it was a small place, would make sure we had a table booked. Basically any help we needed she was there. If you like exploring yourself then it's no problem and you wont be bothered at all, but with only 5 days we wanted to make the most of it so enjoyed the local knowledge she brings.
Location wise, it is set just outside Ubud, which gives a feel of being in the heart of Bali and away from the tourism trail. It is possible to walk into Ubud, but it would probably be a good 30 min. Instead, Rina set us up with a driver who would pick us up from her place each night, and then drop us home when we called for $6 return which worked out perfectly for us.
All in all, a great place to stay and unwind, we're only sorry we didn't have time to make use of the masseuse that can come to the villa! -

This charming house was everything it promised to be.
We arrived at the house late at night and were greeted by Rina, our gracious and very professional host who gave us cold towels and drinks. She has a very good taste and talent, very attentive to all details - everything you need is just right there, so no need to worry about anything.
About the house, its beauty is extraordinary and because of its traditional architecture is open to the air, nature is all around you. There you can experience the silence of nature, away from tourism and city noise. However, the cultural center Ubud can be easily reached by a few minutes' walk or with a taxi.
The charming house, which was spotless, can easily accommodate a family of 5 or two couples. The 2 big double beds are very comfortable with gorgeous mosquito nets.
The broad beautifully laid out terrace has a day bed which is ideal for the afternoon nap and the lounge area is spacious with Balinese furnishings. The kitchen is well equipped with a gas cooker and a fridge. Fresh mineral water is provided in both the kitchen and the upstairs bedroom.
Housekeeping is done carefully by a friendly local lady.
The spa treatments and staff were so relaxing with very reasonable cost.
We were very sad to leave and will definitely return one day and would highly recommend this charming house.
Well done Rina!

We stayed for one week with two little children and liked the stay very much. Rina, the extremely friendly owner, took good care for us and made the stay a wonderful one.
The house has two double beds, one of them upstairs, with very good mosquito nets and everything was clean and tidy. The stairs to the upper floor are quite steep and might not be ideal for everyone. During the day when we were away the house was always cleaned and freshened up.
The day bed on the veranda also has a net and is great for relaxing.
Rina arranged fresh fruits on arrival and helped to organize whatever we needed. We felt very warm hospitality.
The location is away from the hustle of Ubud but it is a bit of a walk, partly along a busy street without sidewalks, into town. A car for getting around definitely makes things easier and we can recommend Ketut a calm and cautious driver with a well kept large car that Rina arranged.pResponse from Rina Jin - 09/13/2012

The Panhans family is a lovely family with two adorable little children. I was delighted to have them as guests for a week and look forward to welcoming them again.
I would like to respond to the comments made, for the benefit of those people who may not be fully familiar with Bali. In Bali, many houses are built with staircases which are slightly steeper and higher than those in other countries. The stairs height in my house is about 21cm, so perhaps it may not be ideal for some people, although I have not had any particular issues with this to-date. Nonetheless, I have taken careful note and appreciate the comment.
The location of the house is a bit away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud town centre, as my house caters for guests who normally wish to be in more tranquil setting, yet within a short driving distance. Ubud town centre is only about 5 to 6 minutes drive away.
The house in located in Sayan, between the Four Seasons Hotel and the Amandari Hotel, two of the most renowned resorts in the world, and the area is considered one of the best in the Ubud vicinity.
Regarding the comment made about the sidewalks, this is quite a common issue across the whole island of Bali. Only town centres, or heavily populated areas generally have some sort of sidewalks, while probably some 95% of Bali has no sidewalks at all. But Bali is still beautiful and charming despite all that.
Come and experience the charm of Bali.

Our family has just returned from a 3-week holiday in Bali and Rina's place was by far our favourite place. The minute we arrived we were able to relax into a wonderful experience of authentic Indonesian hospitality in a private and elegant environment. The little house is like the Bali home you dream of having, with an open air living area with daybed, an indoor lounge, and it is very spacious, allowing privacy for all family members. There were two comfortable doublebeds, and lovely outdoor baths and showers. Other features we liked were the choice of tv programmes and the massage table (the owner can organise an excellent therapist to come to the house).
The location off Sayan Road is perfect for visiting Ubud, in a peaceful lane, away from the hustle and bustle of central Ubud, but only a short stroll away from the artist vilage Penestanan. The owner is a wonderful woman who does all to make your stay comfortable and is a real source of knowledge. We will surely stay there whenever we come back to Ubud.
