Hati Suci: Ganesha House, rustic luxury
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia
Additional Location Information
Hati Suci and the surrounding rice fields themselves are in a unique and tranquil setting. Higher than Ubud towards the foothills of the volcano, it is tropical but not as hot as the beach areas. There are fewer mosquitoes but wildlife is abundant.
The village we are located in is traditional, and in it's own way, unique. There are views from the land towards Mount Agung and one of the major water temples of Tirta Empul is 4 kilometres away in Tampaksiring. There are local warungs (eating places) in the village and a large traditional market selling fruit, vegetables and livestock in nearby Pujung. We have a growing number of more western restaurants a short ride away, some of whom deliver, and small local shops selling daily essentials are close by.
We have easy access by motorbike or car (taxi services can be arranged) to Ubud, the cultural centre of Bali. The 20 minute drive is breathtaking, winding through the jungle, rice fields, river valleys and several traditional villages.
Ubud has hundreds of restaurants, spas, yoga schools and batik, art and cooking classes. It also has great shopping, a large vibrant daily market and several art galleries and a museum. Evenings offer Balinese dance performances, Fire ceremonies and Gamelan.
We are a one and a half hour drive from the airport, one hour from the nearest beaches and half an hour from Kintamani, which is on the edge of the volcano, Mount Batur.
Scooters are our preferred method of getting around. They are cheap, and beat the traffic in the larger towns. We have several motorbikes for rent at competitive prices of 50,000 Rupiah (approx. $5USD) per day or 500,000 (approx. $50USD) per month.
We also have a number of bicycles for use by the more energetic guests. Cycling through the winding local lanes can be a beautiful way to see the island and our surroundings.
We have a number of drivers who are available for hire by the day or by single trips. All are reliable, friendly, knowledgeable and reasonably priced.
Tours can be arranged through our manager if you wish.
We advise guests to bring with them International Driving Permits as the local Police often perform spot checks.

Additional notes from the owner
We've already said it but John and Barbara are the two resident cats (email: hidden) here, with whoever is hosting. They are friendly and efficient at keeping unwanted small animals out of the house and our staff will feed them. We are sorry but their residency is non negotiable. Thank you.
We welcome you and ask that you agree to these few requests before sharing our lovely property.
The rental includes our manager, there is a cleaner and gardener, and the houses have in them many of our personal belongings.
1. On arrival there is a 10% service/gratuity fee to be paid directly to the staff , and a $100 damage/bill deposit, held and released at the end of your stay if no damage or extra bills are incurred on your behalf
2. We suggest you bring a photocopy of your passport, it is required by law that all visitors be registered, and this will eliminate the need for your actual passport to be taken to the police station.
3. Please feel free to read our books, but please let them stay when you leave us!
4. If you want to use a local cell phone we require a 100,000 rupiah payment per phone (approx. $10USD), per stay, non refundable, plus the cost of minutes used. An accounting of this will be kept. Phones already have useful numbers listed for you.
5. There is unlimited Internet access included with the house. Please be patient, Bali is not a first world country and occasionally internet lapses for short periods.
6. This is a safe area, however we are not responsible for any valuables left in the house. There is a strong secure safe in each bedroom, please keep your travel documents, money, laptops and any other valuables in there.
7. Our staff are of course the most important consideration, and we ask that you treat them with kindness and respect. Their duties are specific and include: Cleaning the house. Maintaining the garden and pool. Shopping for household requirements
The staff will be available at the house for approximately 2 hours per day, in the morning, unless prior arrangements are made with them.
The staff have their own families and commitments to the temple and community. If it is not convenient that they clean during their usual hours, then they will come the following day
The staff are not paid or obligated to do anything beyond this, so kindly reimburse them financially for anything additional you ask them to do, and that they agree to, such as staying late, changing their hours, cooking meals, washing or mending your clothes, baby sitting, driving you anywhere on their motor-bikes, or running errands unrelated to the required shopping.
If you require laundry service, they can do this for you, or there is a local laundry with the same rates of charge and fast service. An information sheet with itemised prices is in the house.
You will be provided with one large towel per person per stay/week and one pool towel per person, if you require extras we will be happy to provide them for the posted laundry rates.
Please make any and all arrangements for additional services through our manager.
If you require any food shopping in advance of your arrival, please let us know; a detailed accounting will be provided for you, and you can pay for this at check-in.
Please note: one storage room is kept locked with the owners personal belongings. Access is not permitted to paying guests.
The staff have every Sunday off, however if you arrive or leave on a Sunday then we will of course make arrangements to fully accommodate you. Please be respectful if any of the staff, on occasion, need time off for ceremonies, these are a very important part of village life.
We have a couple of automatic scooters that can be rented for 50,000 (approximately $5USD) rupiah a day, 30,000 for any amount of time less than 4 hours, or 500,000 rupiah (approximately $50USD) a month.
If you would like any of the staff to take you around the local area on their motor-bike, the cost is 50,000 rupiah (Approximately $5USD) per hour (min 50,000 rupiah, (approximately $5USD)
Also if you require any personal errands run: the charge is 50,000 rupiah per hour, approximately $5USD (with a 1hr minimum).
We are in the middle of the working rice fields and, occasionally, usually for brief amounts of time, there can be issues with the electricity or internet. Please be patient and understanding when this happens, it is a small price to pay for being in such a magical spot.
Our water supply is stored rain water with emergency top up through piped spring water. Our manager and gardener will monitor supplies.
Toilet and bathroom waste is managed through an organic waste water system using worms. Please never use bleach or strong chemicals, although the system copes with normal shampoos and soaps.
Also, the area is teeming with birds and wildlife, occasionally these creatures might "trespass" ... they have no idea of what man-made boundaries mean. The staff cleans thoroughly daily, so be assured we move them on and there are no actual "residents". If you are squeamish about such things then you may want to find alternative accommodations in areas not adjacent to any actual rice fields.
Please let us know if you need airport pick-up; we have local drivers who charge exactly the going taxi rate for this service. Also we have plenty of referrals for other reliable drivers, car or motorbike rentals, and excellent reasonably priced massage therapists, manicurists etc. who can be scheduled at the property.
