What Past Guests Are Saying
We traveled to Damai house for the first week of april. We were very pleased with the kind and efficient service, surroundings, and the house itself.
When I was looking for a house, privacy was of importance to us. We wanted somewhere cozy, but not somewhere we would be bothered with staff or noise early in the morning. This was a great choice for that. We found Damai home-y, peaceful, and at the time we were there, very few people to share the property with :) The view and surrounding village atmosphere was much preferred over a sterile resort.
They were so helpful in lining up a motorbike and driver for us.
My only improvements to our experience would be warm water in the showers when needed (we found only one of us could get it early in the morning), but also realize, hey, we're in a tropical paradise!
Thanks Damai Barnaby, Putu, and Wayan and driver Piel at Bali T houses!
Response from Damai, T House Kaja - 04/21/2013
Thanks Alyson, glad you enjoyed your stay. There should be plentiful on-demand hot water from the heater so I'll check this with the house staff.
For advebtures travelers only...
I don´t know, why so many reviews make such a brighter picture than it is!?
It is an open house, where you have a lot of noice, lot of animals and lot of molde...and pay a lot of bugs.
Of course the view is nice, but for that you have to deal with the noice rice workers, who life next dore and wake you up at about 6 o clock chatting very loudly. The sleeping room is open, so no shut down of windows etc. For that of course, when it´s raining you get a lot of moiste inside the house, and everything-eaven your washed cloths smell after 3 days. of course the interioure of the house does to.
Quitenes, not possible. cause the pump for the pool is right next to your outside table and sitting space. so you can only enjoy the silence, if the worker shuts up the pump at about 10 o clock pm. than suddenly you feal the release in your ears.
Of course it looks nice, and the idea of that concept is greate. But for us$ 75,- a night I can get a real villa in ubud, where I can shut the windows ad night and enjoy silence.
Response from Damai, T House Kaja - 03/20/2013
Thanks, we're sorry Damai didn't suit you. As our other reviewers have said, they appreciate the open air feel of Damai and closeness to village life. Damai is perfect for people who like to go to sleep to the sounds of nature and be close to their surroundings and environment.
I loved my stay at Damai house. Peaceful, calm, space... I will come and stay again!! All the staff were welcoming, helpful and cooked us breakfast and dinner every night! It truly was a wonderful bali experience, and one I would recommend to anyone visiting the area.
Service, accommodation and the energy of the place was very special and captures your heart.
If you're looking to get away from the hustle & bustle of life for a couple of days, this is the place. The simplicity, serenity, beautiful view of rice paddy's made our time at Damai a most relaxing time.
We even hired a scooter to get around in & is definitely recommended if you want an experience. Just be patient and show respect to other drivers.Majority were scooter drivers.
Plenty of restaurants within a 5 min drive and the shops were plentiful for souvenirs on Monkey Forest Road.
The staff were most helpful & friendly and nothing was too much.

What a wonderful place!
We had the most wonderful, relaxing, indulgent, peaceful beautiful time at Damai in December 2010. We ordered in food from delightful Wayan almost every night, and the lovely staff prepared delicious breakfast for us every morning. Looking out over the rice fields watching the farmers (and geese) while reading or floating around in the pool was heavenly. Damai is about half an hour walk into the centre of Ubud, so if you want to be closer to town, this is not the place for you. We loved being in a village community however, and quite enjoyed the stroll into town every other day (although the friendly staff will also arrange to drive you and it's cheap and easy to get taxis back from Ubud when you want to return). The only issue was mosquitos at night when we were watching Dvds or reading down stairs - we had to rig up a mosquito net over the sofa. I know other guests have struggled with the wildlife (geckos etc) but we loved having such flat mates. I guess also that some people would struggle with the heat as there is no airconditioning. The ceiling fans in the upstairs rooms work perfectly but down stairs can get a bit close in warm humid weather. Again, we loved it though. Definitely hope to return to Damai one day.
Response from Damai, T House Kaja - 06/25/2011
Thanks for your review which captures what we love about Damai. We've replaced the fan downstairs which helps a lot with mosquitoes and warmer times of year. Hope to see you here again soon!
Loved everything about our stay and can't wait to get back.
We stayed at Damai House for 2 weeks and loved every minute of it. The location is tranquil and it is wonderful to sit and watch the local people go about their business in the rice field. The staff were super helpful and the local animals (ducks, dogs, cats, cows) were welcome. The pool was a great addition, our daughter loved it.
House by the ricefield
Positives: This house is well situated with a wonderful, peaceful rice field vista, it has a lovely (shared) pool and is looked after by a team of very helpful and pleasant staff.
Negatives: T House Kaja is a little bit isolated outside of town (too far to walk) and the house could do with a bit of updating, for example: some functional fans downstairs.
Response from Damai, T House Kaja - 06/25/2011
Thanks, we've replaced the fan downstairs as it was a bit temperamental. T House Kaja is out of town which is perfect if you're looking for peace and quiet and village life a short drive from Ubud.

A little slice of heaven
Our week long stay at Damai House was a profoundly relaxing experience. We read many a book while enjoying the most beautiful sunsets. It's only a 5 minute drive out of Ubud but feels like the middle of the countryside. It was fasinating to watch local life being carried out on the rice fields and the staff were warm and welcoming and always there to lend a hand. Having breakfast made for us was a rare luxury and a very nice addition to the holiday. The pool was perfect for cooling down on a hot afternoon and refreshing us in the morning. The house was set in luscious gardens full of heliconias and was a beautiful design which lent itself very well to the surrounding environment. I particularly enjoyed being able to shower while enjoying a view out across the rice fields! The only thing that could have been improved was some air conditioning in the bedroom as it was hard to sleep with 98% humidity but we loved hearing the chorus of crickets, geckos and frogs every night. All in all a wonderful slice of heaven which we'll definately return to in the future. Worth hiring a car and actually quite safe if you keep slow and alert! Highly recommended!
I stayed 2 nights here with my boyfriend and we both couldn't believe what a
beautiful place this was, I felt like a princess!
a nature symphony
Each morning I woke up to the bright sunny sun that cast beautiful shadows through the bamboo blinds.
The surrounding green calms the “morning rush” and relaxes the mind.
By 8am, the farmers will be working in the farm and the ducks will march across field just in front of the patio.
It’s an awesome experience to sit at out door dinning and let the hours pass.
The pool is of such close proximity that it almost like a private pool. Take a deep anytime, it’s less than 10 steps to the hse.
it’s beautiful to watch the sun set while soaking in the water.
When night falls, be prepared to conduct a symphony with various inserts humming in harmony.
For an urban dweller like me, it’s an enchanting experience @ damai house.
The hardware is well maintained and the pple @ t-hse are a lovely bunch!
I’ll certainly be back to Damai again!
Improvement? Well, if any, do add some clothes hangers and hanging space in the wardrobe
relaxing, peaceful stay in the picturesque Damai T Houses
Damai T House where beautiful, just like the picture! realy we had a wonderful time. a truley peaceful and relaxing stay.
Everyone was really friendly, the breakfast was fantastic, we loved being softly woken up by the local ducks waddling through the rice fields.
It was an experience that will stay with us for a long time to come, we hope to visit again soon.
Great Place Out of the way
I had a fantastic time at the T House, I highly recommend it for an out of the way, rice field experience,
The staff were friendly and helpful.
I will go back next year,
If you want a place to stay away from the Madness of Bali, this is the experience that I would recommend, only wish I had a longer holiday.
3 DAYS NOT ENOUGH
We are a family of four who enjoyed 4 lovely days in the Damai house T Houses, Kaja. Damai is the pick of the houses we saw and we were not want for anything. Peace and quiet plenty. Clean and comfortable. Would return again in a second!
First of all the warm welcome by the staff of the T-houses was very nice, then we saw the house, which was even more spacious and beautiful than the pictures. The view on the ricefields from the house and terrace were really enchanting, with the fireflies at night and the soft chanting from the nearby temple. We loved our stay, and special thanks to the staff who were very friendly and helpful with everything.
Beautifull House and settings
Just got back from Damai. The house is very pleasant, comfortable and set in a beautifull environement. Very nice and helpfull staff the perfect place to relax and enjoy all what Bali has to offer. Renting a motorcycle or a car might be a good idea, as we are not in the center of Ubud.
Would certainly book again if I have the chance to go back to Bali
Great place, couldn't recommend it highly enough
We stayed with our two small kids (2 and 5 years old) for six weeks at the T-
Houses. The one we liked best is the Damai house ... set right on the rice
fields, with a large patio and the pool only two steps away. The house was
clean and tidy and the staff was fantastic.
We couldn't recommend the place highly enough, feel free to contact me at
uwefassnacht at gmail dot com if you'd like to hear more.
a better destination than ubud
We stayed at the lovely Damai for 1 week, with our 3 small children (4-7 years).
Damai is perfectly located only 6 kns to Ubud in a little village called lotundah. The house sits on the doorstep of the rice paddiesuring the day we watched the locals tending them, and at night we counted the firefly's.
The staff are lovely, nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast is prepared privately in your house, the kids rating the pancakes the best ever. They can cook for lunch or dinner with some notice and payment.
Transport into Ubud is cheap and easy just book a time with the staff and they will organise it, or you can rent a small jeep for $10 a day to explore more.
Damai is perfectly located beside the pool, which meant the toilet was nearby for the kids etc.
While this is within a group of houses, it is extremely private, nothing flash but one of my favourite places to hang out, enjoy the culture of Bali, read books, swim and enjoy the great food of Ubud.
Enjoy, we will definitely be back.
