      Perfect for our purpose.

Left on 09/21/2012 for a stay in September 2012

I don't know how to keep this review short so sorry.
Stayed here with extended family to celebrate my 40th. I was very happy with the house and the staff, they were amazing and so very friendly.

The house is well priced for the amount of beds available and wow, they are the most comfortable beds ever! Everyone commented on how comfortable they were. Our guests ranged in age from 5 years old to 76 years old. The bedrooms are all upstairs so by the end of each day my 76 year old aunt was sending the younger ones upstairs to fetch her things but in all she coped quite well. Just be aware that anyone with mobility issues will have trouble in this house. Also one of my guests commented that she was glad she left her crawling baby home with her mother as she wouldn't be able to rest with the raised lounge area that has a 1m drop onto paving right next to the pool. I was comfortable with my 5 year old although I had to keep reminding him not to run over the bridge or around the pool.

There is a large relatively flat grass area which would be great for cricket or bocce but the other end of the pool has a narrow bit of land before it drops straight into a ravine, beautiful for most but not for small kids. Also the balustrade around the second floor of one house is wobbly so I warned the kids to be careful.

Now location. This is both good and bad. We loved taking early morning walks along the road through the local villages, greeting the locals and shopping at their small village shops. This is an experience you cannot get in the towns. Also there are rice paddies next door and we went in search of fireflies which we found! The kids were so excited and the security staff and villa manage came and caught one for the kids to hold, magical! The drive into Ubud was 30 minutes on most days as traffic was usually bad and the drive from the airport was 2 to 2.5 hours although I am told it can be done in 1 hour on a good day. The villa provides only 1 car for 1 return trip per day. This means 7 people only so budget for a second car if you have a full house. The second car is 300 000 ($30AUD) per trip which quickly adds up if you go out a few times a day! I found the transport costs to be far more than I had anticipated. For this reason we ate in the villa most nights.

Dinner at the villa was delicious and completely affordable. Our average cost per person was $6 AUD for dinner and there was always more than enough food for 10 adults and 3 kids (cost was only split between adults). The staff shopped at the market daily and cooked the dinner ready for whatever time we specified, could not have asked for better food or service! It was fresh and tasty and no one got sick. The staff use the filtered water to wash the salad which is provided for everyone to enjoy in two 19 liter water coolers.

My birthday night was amazing and we had a great party. On our request the villa manager hired a barman for us who came with all supplies and mixed cocktails for us all night. A massive banquet was prepared by the staff whom we invited to join us for dinner and I had 2 birthday cakes to enjoy, one after breakfast and one at the party. There is a small stereo which we plugged a laptop into to play music and it did the job nicely.

Now for the weather. Yes it is much cooler at the villa than in Kuta, Ubud, and even cooler than the local village a few hundred meters away. It captures the breezes perfectly but because of this be prepared with long and short pj's and also with a light jumper and maybe some light track pants for the mornings and evenings. The pool is pretty cold in the morning but better by mid afternoon. It never gets hot like the hotel pools in Kuta and is much bigger than it looks in the photos (you don't realise until you start swimming).

In house massage/ mani/ pedi was ok but not fantastic. Almost 3 times the cost of Ubud and not as good. Massage was pretty good but I asked for 60 minutes and they did 90 and charged accordingly. My manicure was terrible and I got a new one in Ubud the next day. Maybe they need to find another service provider.

In all it was perfect for a group like we had. We all had a great time and would stay there again for a similar celebration, maybe in a warmer month though. Oh and almost forgot, wifi was the best I have experienced in Bali although on one very cloudy day it was a bit slower.

I've never met people who were more sincerely happy and nice than the staff Villa atas awan. Experiencing Bali in the beautiful setting with the singing creatures in the nearby forest and the incredibly kind staff gave me hope for world peace -- no kidding! I felt such a sense of peace and well-being there that I literally cried when I left. I didn't want to go back home!

Service and hospitality was amazing. The view of the volcano and the rice fields was nice to wake up to. The chef that prepared Balinese meals made it hard for us to eat out elsewhere. Has all the amenities and a great place for friends or family.

      you gotta stay here

Left on 01/13/2011 for a stay in November 2010

seriously, look no further. this is the most beautiful house ever. the most lovely staff who found us everything from temples to late night dancing. Took us shopping, took us to the most remote dinners, advised us when we were over doing it, brought us tea when we were reading. everything. They even loaned us cell phones in an emergency! They remembered our favorite fruits and had them waiting on our plates.
The house itself you could just look at for a month. every room is terrific. every shower is terrific! We had a disco party on the first floor of one house one evening, while a kill joy guest in our group slept right through it in the other house (and didn't even complain about it because the layout was perfect for it!) we did yoga on the back patio everyday, had masseuses come to the house every morning that the staff found for us (some days we brought eight massage therapists to the house). And you just feel so smart and hip because there is not one tourist anyone near you. it was such a short distance to rafting (please do this it is awesome) and elephant park and great hiking around. It was a quick ride to the monkey forest, and the shopping and the four seasons for very american food! Watching the locals work the rice paddies from the windows and private patios of every bedroom that surround the house is awing. I have not one complaint, and be sure, I like to complain.

I was completely floored when I first saw the two magnificent houses.
Peaceful and secluded with the most beautiful surroundings I have ever seen.
Villa atas awan was wonderful and beyond my expectations.

I was welcomed by the lovely staff who provided excellent service during the whole stay.
The food, lovely, always fresh fruit and well made meals.
The rooms where beautiful, carefully decorated, simple and elegant.

I have to say it's the perfect place to get away, find tranquility and still get work done.(There was Wi Fi in the whole house! )

Highly recommend it and hope to visit it again soon!!

      a mountain jungle paradise.

Left on 11/27/2010 for a stay in May 2010

We arrived late at night, greeted by the warm and friendly staff. Torches flickered light on the stone path as we made our way past the impressive Balinese gated entrance and up to the villa compound.

The rooms were luxurious and stately with crisp white linen and dark java wood. The rooms were out-fitted with mossie-netting, TV, wi-fi and stereos. We sipped cold Bintang beer and listened to the hum of the jungle night air.

In the morning we woke to the glorious view of the mountains above the clouds - right from our bed, the smell of coffee brewing, and the buzzing of dragonflys going about their day. We soon went about our day, having fresh fruit and a Balinese rice dish made by one of the several cooks, for breakfast. Then a swim in the infinity pool, and some morning yoga.

Lots of activities in Ubud, and nearby smaller villages, and we stumbled upon a Hindu ceremony right down the road waking distance from the villa. But our favorite activity was just relaxing at the villa that was high in the mountain jungle. Loved it!

      The Trip of a lifetime

Left on 06/02/2010 for a stay in January 2010

My stay in Ubud was magnificent. I was greeted upon arrival and then whisked off to the most beautiful villas in Ubud. The staff were an absolute pleasure and always there to address any needs. In the morning you wake to the sounds of a symphony of animals. The views out your windows are magnificent -- in the distance you will see the mountains and the beauty of Ubud in front of you and to the right the rice fields. The villas are tucked away and about 15 minutes from Ubud Center but well worth the drive. The staff worked very hard and the food prepared by the staff was delicious. A driver was arranged whenever I needed and would stay will me all day and even help to negotiate prices at some of the stores. Ubud Center was great to go out at night but there was always a peace and tranquility when you returned to Villa atas awan. It is truly a place to loose yourself and become one with nature and rediscover your inner chi. So grab your yoga mat, a bunch of great books and be prepared to relax and rejunvenate. I highly recommend this Villa as it will be the trip of a lifetime.
