Additional Location Information
We are 4-5 km or 2.5 -3 miles south of Ubud center.
The village of Jukut Paku is a small village next to the village of Nyuh Kuning which borders the sacred monkey forest in Ubud. Many wood carvers offer their wares along the main road. Jukut Paku now has the newly opened Ubud market at its entrance, full of local crafts and goods. The market is only a few minute walk down our road, beyond the huge banyan tree and next to the village temple. We have plenty of parking at The Springs.

This place has a beautiful view. Alot of privacy ! My friends and i had an amazing time staying at the property. It was really relaxing. The pool was simply divine. We could have stayed at the pool the entire time and not want to go anywhere else! the only slight discomfort are the bugs but because its in the forest and right next to the river that is to be expected

Dear Guests, Thank you very much. We are glad you enjoyed the natural springs pool by the river and waterfalls - the most special place on the property - connected to an ancient network of healing springs in the area. We look forward to you all visiting The Springs again. We will make sure the natural bug repellant is there for you and future guests. Best Regards, FMK

The way to this villa is not known to many. My advice is to ask for a map or ask for the transport from the owner. When we were there last, there was no sign nor a door post to tell us that we have arrived.
Once we got there, the vista was spectacular and we were pleasantly surprised. We were warmly greeted by the manager, Stefan, and was shown around the property. It is wonderfully and beautifully designed. It is a romantic getaway and a family haunt all rolled into 1. The property is huge with loads of places to run and explore and private enough for those who wants to get away from it all. There is also a natural springs in the property less than a 5 minute stroll.
The place is so well kept, flowers and gardens everywhere. Big spaces for picnics , outdoor games if you want. Clean and well presented. The bedrooms are impeccably chic and well designed. More importantly, the beds are comfortable.
The bathrooms are fantastic. You feel as though you are right in the middle of the jungle. Its open air and you hear the jungle surround sounds ! Clean and beautifully designed bathrooms !
The villa is not far from Ubud , so it is minutes away by car, which is a bonus. Stefan the manager arranged everything and was really helpful ! We cannot thank him enough for his help and advice.
The staff is great ! Very discreet, polite and helpful ! They are so friendly but shy ! Wonderful ! Everything they do is with such care and love ! We do appreciate them .
The food is well done and fresh. Yummy and definitely a 5 star standard. We were well fed. The menu is healthy, fresh and delicious.
The internet however, was bad. We could only receive a weak signal and only at 1 place.
All in all, it was a wonderful stay ! We enjoyed the relaxing and beautiful atmosphere.Response from Dan V Kimball - 01/24/2013

Greetings, Thank you very much for your thoughtful review. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to have you visit again.
I am so sorry you had a problem with the internet. Internet is very important to us and our guests. That is not the norm! Normally technicians come right away if there is a problem. We found out that telephone lines were down and also that when our office was being moved to a different location, the staff mistakenly switched the internet boxes, which is why you got internet in one place. My husband is a computer programmer and has done all his work from there when he was there. Additionally we had 3 software programmers come all the way from North America to stay at our place to do their work! And they completed their software development. So sorry the problem wasn't taken care of right away for you.
Also sorry you had difficulties finding our place. We now provide maps for all those not using our transportation. Very best wishes! :-) FMK -

We had a wonderful stay at the Springs in July 2012. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and were more than willing to help us. We had a group of 8. The Springs was a stunningly beautiful and relaxing place to be. The menu was great - innovative, fresh, organic and healthy. Loved the fresh spring rolls and the fresh juices.
The rooms were very comfortable with their tropical feel and we loved the outdoor bathrooms with their garden landscapes and a few friendly frogs and snails. The view of the rice fields from the deck and the surrounding countryside was very relaxing. It was a very tranquil place to come home to after a long day of sight-seeing and Bali traffic. The breakfasts were delicious. Kadek organised our transportation when required and even helped me prepare for the wedding we attended. The service was great! Thank you. It was a short 10 minute drive to the centre of Ubud yet felt so remote. Wished we could have stayed longer.

We had a wonderful stay at the Springs. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and were more than willing to help us with our baby needs - car seats, cot, sterilising bottles etc. Our 2 other kids - aged 3 and 5 loved swimming in the pool and running around the place. For the adults, the Springs was a stunningly beautiful and relaxing place to be. The menu was great - innovative, fresh, organic and healthy.

Easing along the narrow driveway flanked by high hedges of luscious leaves close enough to hug the car, was by itself an experience to behold. Behind the thatch gate, my feet stepped out of the vehicle onto soft fluffy grass, my heart melted and I surrendered to the breathtaking panorama of paddy fields, willowy lallang, natural vegetation and a volcano in the distance. The vastness stretches from the Was River down below up to the open skies above. On a moon less night, all these disappear into deep darkness, dotted only by twinkling stars. Totally serene and surreal. In darkness or in daylight, nature’s energy nurtures and heals.
The dwelling built of mostly natural materials blends in beautifully with the surroundings. A cluster of 3 thatch roof huts serve as bedrooms with bathrooms attached and hot water running from the tap. The ample and comfy beds covered in sheets white and crisp. A separate hut serves as living room and library. All these on an open wooden deck shielded behind a row of haleconia.
Across the lawn, a joglo houses the kitchen where the staff prepares healthy and delicious meals aromatized with herbs from the eco garden. The menu is a treat for vegans and organic foodists. Although mostly raw, there are yummy cooked selections. We so enjoyed a dinner of charcoal grilled fish that we had to have it one more time before we left. We tasted almost everything on the breakfast menu. Every pick a delightful new experience to the palate, and beautifully decorated to tease the eyes. One day, the driver dropped us half way to Ubud. We walked through the neatly village of Nyiur Kuning, across the Sacred Monkey Forest and emerged in the center of Ubud Other days, we visited the Green School, a dinner and show, a visit to the spa. There are endless activities to indulge in, but the most impressive is simply taking in the goodness of The Springs. We spend most of our time on the deck, yoga, meditations, meals, internet access, reading or just breathing in the sweet scents of the Kesidang bush. Every day we walk down to the plunge pool that is carved into a volcanic rock and soak our selves in the natural spring water, gazing at the cool cascades in the river below. Each night the collective calls of cicadas lull us to sleep and we wake up to the chirps of birds at sunrise.
All in all, the ambience, the food and the staff added up to a 5 star experience in the vast expense of nature – a compelling experience never felt before in my previous visits to Bali. Seven days 6 nights at The Springs, we came home rested, healed and in love with nature.

at least here at The Springs that is true. Beautifully serviced home away from home where the staff are warm and friendly adding to the calm, green surroundings. Between the guest houses and the main home Is the community kitchen, beautiful in design and opening out onto a panoramic view with the river below. A wonderful setting to sit and enjoy one or all of the days meals. a pleasant walk down to the river with a spring pool to cleanse body and soul and later perhaps, a drive into ubud for some shopping or just to enjoy the local vibe.

Oegstgeest, The NetherlandsBeautiful place, but there are some downsides ...
Left on 08/21/2012 for a stay in July 2012
A beautiful place at first sight. And also at second and third. The property consists of three separate bedrooms on one big terrace, every bedroom having it's own bathroom / shower. The rooms with bathrooms are simple, but stylish and tranquil. There also is a separate library. From the terrace you've got a beautiful sight over the hills and surrounding sawahs. Ubud is about 15 minutes by car. They provide nice breakfasts on request. The spring pool is about 100 meters from the property.
We just loved Ubud, but it didn't work out between The Springs and us. And we don't know exactly why. It's the sum of things. In the first place: we booked for five nights, and after they received our payment, they informed us one of these nights the property was already hired by other guests, so we had to move to another place for that night. Second: you pay a lot of money to stay here, but what do you get in return? Three double beds with a roof above. And three bathrooms, without a roof, two out of three not working very properly. As the Wifi didn't. No kitchen or what so ever. Only some hot water for thee. And you pay additionally for everything you ask, top end prices. Breakfast, diner, drives. Why can you hire a driver in Ubud for half the price from the Springs? After four days you feel somewhat exploited. Third: everyone is friendly but also somewhat detached. Calculated politeness instead of sincere interest. Fourth: the place isn't very suited for young families and elderly people. The kids loved the spring pool, but it is out of sight and a few minutes walk, along steep edges, so you have to accompany them on every step they make. Elderly people can't get there. Fifth: the owner is a raw food enthusiast, so is the menu. Nothing wrong with that, but my wife was very sick one night after having their fresh spring rolls, probably not washed properly. Sixth: they don't help you in any way to find your way in Ubud. No tips, no suggestions, no excursions or help whatsoever. And seventh and last: we saw a lot of great places to stay in Ubud city. We think it's better to stay there for a few nights, than in a place a 15 minutes drive from where it all happens and why you are there! So our advice: look for a place, same price, in the city of Ubud.Response from Dan V Kimball - 09/15/2012

Greetings,
Oh my! We are so very sorry things did not work out for you. One of the characteristics of The Springs is that we are away from the hustle and bustle, and yet only a few minutes from town, but we do understand your preference to be in town. I was not here during your stay, but am very surprised if you were not helped. My husband did enjoy meeting you and he is a computer person who relies on the wifi here. I personally spent many hours to make arrangements with the owner of a very beautiful fully appointed villa near ours for you to stay there and paid him for your stay, for the one night booking error I made (the only such error in our history). We had made arrangements for everything to be taken care of for you for that, the European owner and staff were awaiting you, and you changed your plans at the last minute (to travel to north Bali). We provided a complimentary airport pick up for you. Actually the driver rates we offered you for town are the lowest available as we did not get any commission whatsoever and our drivers give us special low rates as we have been working with them for so long, so you may have thought the rates were high, plus we provide complimentary drives to town when our driver is available. Drivers in town charge higher than we. What didn't work properly in bathrooms? As for food prices we simply have to cover our costs to cater exclusively to one set of guests, and we use very specialized organic ingredients, etc. We have never had anyone get sick from our food in all the years here, but we are truly sorry for your wife's experience. As you did not eat here much, perhaps it was not from here? Our staff are so trained in hygiene.
I am sorry the pool was not near the villa, as you are the only guests on one hectare and the springs are natural. It is true that some elderly people will have difficulty with the trek to the pool, but several 70th birthdays have been celebrated here, and a 78 year old spent everyday swimming there during his month long stay. I am truly perplexed that you say "They don't help you in any way to find your way in Ubud." Truly perplexed. Our staff are great for providing excursions and do it all the time, plus we have a guest book full of activities, restaurant and spa descriptions, locations, brochures, excursions., etc. and my husband personally came to greet you, a very friendly guy. Again, very sorry and scratching my head a bit. For any inconvenience we would be happy to offer assistance in any way we can should you be in the area again. Please phone us to help arrange and excursion, we will gladly assist. Just mention my note.

We were spellbound right from when we entered the property. 3 independent rooms with attached sanctuaries (well.. calling them bathrooms is a sacrilege!), an independent sitting room, lovely deck, grounds and handsome views - more than what one could ask for. Until you decide to walk down to the river, that is. En route you will come across a comfy shed to enjoy the views or just your solitude, and another track takes you down to the carved swimming pool fed by natural springs - what a sight that was, with frangipani flowers carefully arranged around to enhance the experience! Further down you can go to the river where the waters were just knee deep at this time of the year. We had two boys aged 7 and 10 with us too, and they had a terrific time too - what with all this and more - trampoline, badminton court, etc. The welcome drinks, dinner and breakfast were all nicely presented were very fresh and tasty. The staff outdid themselves too - very efficient service. We also had our parents with us and all of us believe this was one of the finest stays we have had on this holiday. Thanks everybody at the Springs for such a lovely time, grateful for your impeccable hospitality.

255060dissapointing ending with our child being bitten by their dog
Left on 05/03/2012 for a stay in April 2012
We stayed at The Springs with two young children (aged 6 and 4) and quickly realised it was not at all child friendly. The 'villa' is actually 4 separate rooms that are not joined at all with doors too heavy for 4 and 6 year olds to open. There is no kitchen other than a bar fridge. The bathrooms are all outside which meant constantly inviting Mosquitos into the room any time you opened the door. Walking to the plunge pool along a cliff face petrified the kids which meant we never went swimming. The facilities are a walk across the garden which is a pain to do every time you need something. When we were there their enormous alsation dog was housed half way between the 'villa' and the facilities ferouciously barking and Jumping on his hind legs any time you went near him. He actually escaped one time and attacked our daughter ripping a hole in her shirt. The owners have said they have since moved the dog and that he was only playing, but I assure you he is very aggressive and would strongly recommend keeping kids well away from this property. After the attack they promised to refund us our money but only gave us 1/3 of it.
Response from Dan V Kimball - 06/03/2012
Owner
We were extremely sorry the dog frightened your daughter when he accidentally got through the gate. Happily there was not a scratch on her and he only nipped her shirt (not her) in play. We have remedied the situation 100% so he cannot frighten people with his bark, as he is no longer near where guests generally walk by. We removed the dog from the property right away after he got out so he would be gone during your stay.
Workers worked hard that day and the next to put up two new fenced in areas so the dog couldn't get through. My children play with him every day so we know his temperament which is not dangerous, and he keeps the property safe.
Since the dog was gone there was no reason to be afraid of him anymore, yet we still quickly refunded you generously the cost of a night's stay, 2 new shirts for your daughter, and all meals.
The kitchen is available for guest use. I am not sure I understand some of the comments, but we are always ready to accommodate our guests. The 4 pavilions opening on to a deck, outdoor jungle bathrooms, pool carved out of stone, are all described fully on the website. I presume you were not the one who made the reservation. Had we known you were unhappy with the natural springs pool (truly the most spectacular feature here) we would have provided you with complimentary pool vouchers for a pool close by. We go out of our way to please guests.
We do warn on this web site that children MUST be accompanied by adults by the pool along the river with waterfalls. I cannot tell you how many children of all ages have come here and so enjoyed everything here. Children have left us many comments in our guest book too.
We are truly sorry you were not able to enjoy your stay with us. -

Left on 01/15/2012 for a stay in December 2011
Our family of six adults thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Springs. We enjoyed having the vast private lawn to play bocci ball. The rooms were very comfortable with their tropical feel and the outdoor bathrooms were exotic with their garden landscapes. The view of the rice fields from the deck were mesmerizing and the attention of the staff, who were eager to attend to our every request, completed a lovely stay. It was a very tranquil place to come home to after a long day of sight seeing and Bali traffic. The breakfasts were delicious. Farah and Ibu Kadek were a delight to deal with and made sure all of our needs were met before and during our time at The Springs. I give five stars for service! We could have used a bit larger living room pavilion with maybe the option for a/c and a place for an indoor table and chairs to get out of the rain but still we managed to have a few meals atop the coffee table while listening to the rain outside. Wifi was a nice amenity to have. Ibu Kadek organized all of our drivers and transportation needs with just a phone call. The service was truly the best! Thank you. It was the perfect place to get that Bali feel. It was a short 10 minute drive to the center of Ubud yet felt so remote. Also, given the traffic situation in Bali these days it was closer to sights we may not have otherwise spent the time to go to from a Bali beach location. A perfect choice!

We enjoyed having your family visit and are glad your stay was a delight. The weather normally permits eating at the covered tables on the deck. The central large joglo is always available for guests' dining and is covered from the rain. Very sorry the staff did not offer that. I have notified them to make sure to do so. That is certainly a good alternative for 6 or more indoors. All 3 bedrooms have a/c in addition to ceiling fans and the sitting room has a ceiling fan and is usually air cooled by the breeze coming from the south. Thank you very much for your review. We stayed at this villa for 3 nights and paid more than the current advertised price given it was shorter than the requested time, I felt more like this was an expensive home stay. The pool is nice and given it is a spring it is understandably some way down the hill but by the time you get up from the pool you almost feel like another swim. Although it says you can walk to central Ubud it is some distance and we were glad we took advantage that the driver was avail to take us, he is not included in the stay but can drive you if available. They did try to accomodate our needs we just felt a little difficult in asking for anything as it was someone's residence you had to approach to ask. I am sure that this would suit some people just wasn't what we werre looking for.

Thank you very much for taking the time to evaluate your stay here. The one guest villa you stayed in is the only guest villa on a one hectare estate. The central building on the property houses the manager's office, Kitchen and laundry facility. When you were here we were filling in for the new manager who is now here (as we had a gap between managers), so perhaps it seemed like you were approaching a residence. We are so sorry this was not what you were looking for. Best Regards, FMK

Redlands, CaliforniaMagnificent ambience, views and accommodations!
Left on 08/21/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We stayed at the The Springs for five nights with our adult children and four-year-old grandson, a total of six people. The rooms, outdoor bathrooms and deck area are delightful. We loved sitting outside drinking our coffee and watching the sun rise. The plunge pool is refreshing and utterly spectacular. The total privacy of the property is a great plus. I would recommend this accommodation without hesitation but there are several caveats that guests should be aware of: The location is quite out of town and walking into Ubud through the Monkey Forest takes a good hour and a half or more, especially with a child in tow. We made this trek only once! If the owner's driver is on hand, he will graciously take you into town; otherwise you must call for a driver on your own. A driver is always needed to return from Ubud and many are unfamiliar with the location of The Springs. Carrying your map to show the driver is a must!
While the staff is friendly and helpful, you are pretty much on your own for all arrangements. This is definitely not a b and b. The owner did not come to greet us on arrival and only showed up a day later after we asked to meet her. Most of our dealings were with her daughter, who provided us with the majority of answers to our questions. We knew that a local cell phone was available for our use from reading other reviews but had to ask for it as it was not automatically offered. Food cooked by the staff is delicious but expensive and takes a long time to arrive at the patio even when you have specified a meal time. We were surprised with the arrival of a food tab halfway through our stay and a request for immediate payment in cash. As the bill for two breakfasts and one dinner for our party of six came to about $150, we decided not to order any more food in house. We were told we could order in from restaurants in Ubud but never tried that option. Overall, our stay at The Springs was a lovely experience, with the advantages outweighing the disadvantages. Our memories are happy ones!Response from Dan V Kimball - 04/13/2012

Greetings, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay. We are glad your overall stay was lovely, and thank you for expressing your views on "caveats." I hope my response provides some clarification.
- Regarding the distance of the walk from The Springs through the Monkey Forest to the base of Monkey Forest Road in Ubud, the distance is 3.6 km (2.2 miles). As we state on the website description, it normally takes us 30 minutes to walk that distance briskly, but perhaps a slow walk could take longer. We guess you did not take the short cut that we indicate on our map, but that you took the long route (not recommended for walking as it can add a half hour on to the trip!) that cars take, as one hour and a half or more doesn't seem likely. It would be a bit long for a 4 year old, though.
- Regarding arrangements, we are happy to help you make them. We now have a concierge to help everyone with all their excursions and activities. She is unbelievably helpful. And we provide a guest book with most imaginable activities available, including information on spas, restaurants, local attractions, bike tours, etc. We happily arrange these for guests.
- Regarding breakfast (or b and b), we state clearly on the website in several places and in all our correspondence that breakfast is not included in the price of accommodations.
- I am sorry if you were expecting me to be the one to greet you all. I do have a full time profession separate from this guest business and we are often not at the property at all or in the country. We have a well-trained staff to warmly greet guests and assist, as we did with your lovely group.
- Regarding the cell phone for guest use, it is now listed as a being available on the guest info sheet in each room.
- Regarding meals, we are glad you thought the food was delicious as the food is one of our specialties here. It would be a rarity if we were not absolutely punctual with time provided by guests. We do ask for advance notice so we can be punctual. We oversee that staff brings food on time, so I am surprised if your meal was delayed at all if you provided a time for it. If it was late we are sorry for the inconvenience.
- Regarding receiving the meal tab halfway through your stay, it is our policy to provide the meal invoice for payment every three days. This often makes it easier for people than having to pay a larger amount just before they are leaving.
- Regarding the cost of meals, I do not have your bill in front of me (as I am out of the country), but $150. for 3 meals for 6 people would average about $8. per meal (presumably including some beverages). We strive for the highest quality, with specialized and unique food not available anywhere else. We make most of everything from scratch, including the coconut palm sugar syrup made minutes before the pancakes are served, for example. We don't use bottled syrups. We make our own products (such as sun dried tomatoes and ginger ale), grow many of our own vegetables and herbs and usually do not use any bottled, canned or already prepared items, so we hope the value is actually higher that the cost to you.
In any case we appreciated having your visit, and remember the absolutely adorable and intelligent 4 year old and his joyful antics. We look forward to you visiting again. Best Regards, FMK -

The Springs at Ubud provides a unique and trully wonderful holiday experience. The owners, who live on site, are kind and obliging without being imposing, the perfect hosts. The staff are extremely friendly and maintain the accommodation and grounds in excellent order. I must admit to not knowing too much about the raw food concept previously, and am still not totally converted, but the food at the springs is absolutely delicious, beautifully presented and very affordable. It won't disappoint. Words can be written and photos taken about the rooms, the bathrooms and the pool, but they fall short of conveying the full experience of this place. The sounds of the birds, the farmer across the river tending his land, or the imposing presence of Ubung and Batar in the distance all add to the effect. Ubud is a 50,000rp ($5.00 aUD)ride away in a taxi, a small price to pay. Although Ubud has elements of Balis Beach madness, it also has lovely eateries and many gentle and kind people. Take a bike tour with one of the operators through the villages along the backstreets, and/or take one of the recommended walks in and around town to get a true feeling of Balinese life. The Springs at Ubud is in my opinion the ideal place to stay if going to this lovely area.

This is the most beautiful place on earth! I travelled here with two daughters and a friend with her daughter.
It was the perfect place to rest and unwind. Nothing but beautiful views peace and quiet. The natural spring pool was just a treat. The staff were exceptional and unobtrusive. The Villas were out of this world! Loved the lizard that shared my room, could only hear him, the showers were unreal and so spotless. I cannot speak highly enough of The Springs...it's simply heaven on earth. Thank you for allowing us to share in the beauty.Response from Dan V Kimball - 07/01/2011

We stayed at The Springs for 5 nights. We had long days out & about & it was a lovely place to come home to. At night you hear frogs & all sorts of wildlife plus Mendra playing the Music Bamboo up at the Joglo, truly magical. Waking up to that view and in those rooms everyday was magnificent. The staff are fantastic, helpful & happy to help if you need anything or something from the menu varied. We highly recommend the fruit smoothies/platters, scrambled eggs & pancakes which we had daily. Rooms are very comfortable, the beds in two of the rooms take a bit of getting used to if you have a pillow top at home. The bathrooms are incredible. If you need more fridge space just ask Farrah & she'll give you space up at the Joglo. We hired a motorbike for 3 days. Again just ask and they'll arrange it. The setting is so beautiful, it's just what I wanted, I was not disappointed. As expected the pool is unbelievable, the water is the purest on the property we were told. We had our 3 and 9 yr olds with us & always used caution going down to it; as Farrah and Dan mention the steps are not fenced or railed. It's a little hairy at first but you do get used to it & children should be supervised in pools so it wasnt a problem for us. The only challenge the pool presented was to our parents. They werent able to make it down the either of the sets of steps, these guys are in their 70's so it might not be great for everyone and as its away from the accommodation, we didnt use it at night. For us it was fine, we used it in the morning & were out all day. But if you're looking to laze about by a pool all day this wouldnt be for you. Farah & Dan's boys are lovely & our son had a ball with them. I felt our children were very safe at all times. Thank you to Dan and Farrah for their hospitality. As I said before if you need anyting just ask them. 3 of us were sick when we arrived & they even got some medicine for us. Like I said they will try to help with anyting.

Our family had a wonderful vacation while staying at The Springs Ubud. The location and view of the rice paddies and mountains cannot be beat. The plunge pool overlooking the waterfall was perfect on a hot day. The staff was attentive and kind, seeing to every need our family had. The food was delicious, both raw and cooked options, and the menu amazing. The beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed the style of the rooms and living spaces. The bathrooms were unbelievably beautiful, filled with beautiful plants. The hammock was a perfect resting place. It was so quiet. Even our young daughter commented on how quiet it was. A perfect place for meditation and contemplation, far away from hustle and bustle.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay in april 2011 at the Springs. The location was perfect for us - close enough to Ubud for popping in for dinner (and take out food!), but in a gorgeous, peaceful valley south of the hustle and bustle of the centre.
The accommodation was comfortable with attractive outdoor bathrooms, and all the comfort needed for us. We loved the unlimited hot/cold water, yet no plastic bottles in sight! Service from the lovely staff was kind, detailed, and attentive, yet provided enough privacy.
We ate out most of the time, but breakfasts were delicious and served on the deck. When we did order food in, it was wonderful homemade fare with fresh ingredients - and the kids loved the food too!
And I can't not mention the amazing spring water pool - a stunning location over the river Wos. One word to describe it - serene! Only downside was the kids were a little too young to enjoy it...
All in all a beautiful place - thank you to the Kimballs!Response from Dan V Kimball - 05/02/2011

This property has the "wow" factor. We spent 6 nights at The Springs and did not want to leave, even my 17 year old son enjoyed every minute.
Dan and Michele are wonderful peaceful people who have an amazing compliment of staff to assist the running of The Springs.
We all loved the Infinity Pool, I felt totally at one with nature. The accommodation is so nice, the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are amazing. The breakfasts were so yummy we did not go to any other place for breakfast, the pancakes were amazing and the fresh smoothies went down a treat with the teens.
On our last morning at the Springs, I asked each of my family to sum up their experience of Bali this time around (we have been four times) and they said the tranquil beautiful property and how we all had time to talk and read books. Saying all that, the "kids/teens" got out and about Bali by renting a scooter, they had so much fun.
If you want a back to nature experience but also want luxury accommodation, please give The Springs a go, you won't be dissapointed.
Thanks again Dan, Michele and familyResponse from Dan V Kimball - 04/07/2011

The Springs is exactly what we wanted, the location on the outskirts of the main town made this the highlight for us to get away from the crowds, although close enough to walk ( taxi) into the centre of Ubud. Kadek who overseas the Villa will organise anything you wish. We actually had a table booked at Mosaic and cancelled just to enjoy the organic home made food and enjoy the peace of the Springs. The scared pool was also very special, but children will need to be supervised at all times. Loved the bathrooms

I am just back from 4 magnificent days at Spings at Ubud. This is a fantastic place to stay with family. I went there with my family of four plus both my parents.
Springs at Ubud is wonderfully suited if you are wanting to avoid the chaos and noise of the bustling cities. Set just above a gorge you enjoy the peacefulness of the lush countryside from the deck. Indeed we did not feel like we needed to go anywhere, the setting was so breathtaking! we spent hours and hours just looking at the horizon, reading and enjoying our company.
The service by Ibu Kadek and her team was super friendly, all the ladies loved the children and baby sat them at the drop of the hat. Much to the enjoyment of the kids. Ibu Kadek took care of us for every need. Organising meals, transportation, everything.
And did i mention the food? really tasty, healthy and freshly made meals on the premise. One day, in the morning, i asked for a coconut based soup for dinner and later in the day i saw them chipping away at two freshly picked coconuts!
My parents were blown away, my kids had a blast and wife is super relaxed.

Everyone adored the children and even though we have enjoyed 4 adorable babies here in less than 4 weeks, yours is the youngest guest (at 2 months old) to visit The Springs! I must say we couldn't keep our eyes off of him! Our 18 year old daughter loved talking with your 4 year old about princesses, knights and princes of which your daughter has a repertoire of stories!
We enjoy serving all kinds of foods, but we are impressed that your family so easily ventured into the live food world. We have strived to perfect that cuisine here! It was a joy to serve you all.

We decided to stay here because of the positive Tripadvisor reviews and the affordability. We are very glad we did.
I stayed here with my fiance and her parents for two nights. We will definately come back for longer next time. The villa is close to Ubud center (10 minutes) overlooking one of the Ubud rivers. The infinity pool by the river is fantastic. I also ventured down the rocks and was able to swim in the river which had a nice sand bottom and small waterfall.
The rooms in the villa are very nice. The bathrooms are natural but luxurious. The wifi has a strong signal which was important for us. The staff were very welcoming have such a gentle nature which adds to the relaxing feel.
The breakfast that you pre-order the night before was delicious which you eat on the timber decking overlooking picturesque jungle and rice fields. The staff can cook you dinner although we opted for the infamous Mozaic restaurant one night and Mojo Burrito delivery the next. The villa has a book with all the food delivery options as well as the in house menu.
One night, around 8pm we decided we needed a massage. The staff were very quickly able to organise four exceptional masseuses from one of the Ubud Spas to come out to the villa within 30 minutes. We paid around aUD$60 in total for this amazing experience... what a bargain.
The owners are lovely and took the time to meet us at the end of our trip.

Left on 07/20/2010 for a stay in July 2010
The Springs is situated in the quiet village of Jukut Paku, a few kilometres south of Ubud. There are 3 small cottages built on a slight raised platform. The view south across the Wos river is of lovely green ricefields (with terraces down to the river) and coconut palms. In July, there is a constant refreshing cool breeze that sweeps north from across the ricefields.
The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the outdoor bathrooms beautiful. The staff are outstanding. They are attentive to all our needs (including making spa bookings, takeout orders, etc) but are yet unobstrusive.
The pool is a short walk downhill. Swimming in it is absolute bliss. The atmosphere is serence, and completely relaxing,
There is a small bridge, made up of a few bamboo poles tied together, spanning river Wos. It is possible to get across to the ricefields opposite the river. The climb up the terraces is moderately difficult, but once at the top, walking on the raised paths between the fields is easy. At the end of the fields is the village of Lod Tunduh. Not relishing a tiring trek back across the river, I found a willing villager to ferry me back to the Springs on a motorbike for a very small fee.
The Springs menu comprises healthy meals, mostly raw, with some cooked items. We enjoyed the chicken soto very much, The fruit juices are great as well. Having our delicious meals served in a wonderful setting is a priceless experience.
It has been a wonderful experience staying in Ubud Springs.

We will return to The Springs! It is truly a bit of paradise. The entire experience was perfect. The rooms are well situated for our family of four. particularly were divine, with hot coffee, croissants, fresh-squeezed juices,
and various items such as granola, omelettes and scrambles on offer (all
vegetarian.)
Overall, a wonderful stay.

SingaporeWhat a wonderful and great place
Left on 05/14/2010 for a stay in May 2010
Overall a peaceful place to really experience Bali. The grounds and scenery are beautiful, as is the pool along the river. We loved lounging on the deck and just relaxing enjoying the quiet. (other than birds, frogs, etc.).
The house staff was very helpful and always willing to answer any questions.
I would really recommend this property to anyone who is looking for an out-of-way special experience. It's still close to everything in Ubud, and yet it's like having your own house.
One Suggestion:
Would recommend adding a selection of cutlery and glasses available near the guest rooms so that you're not always bothering the kitchen team.Response from Dan V Kimball - 05/18/2010

Wow! What an amazing experience. This is truly a place where you can relax, heal and release all of your worries. Take a morning dip in the spring and you will feel refreshed, revitalized and alive. Don't forget your camera because the views are incredible. The food is scrumdidlyumptious, with the fresh papaya my favorite. The Kimball family are truly gentle spirits and the staff here are so friendly and nice. Definitely get Pak Guru to take you across the springs to see the rice fields and meet some local people. But beware, it is tough and slippery to trek in places (which for us made it even more fun).

Santa Barbara, CaliforniaA Magical Place
Left on 04/30/2010 for a stay in October 2009
The Springs is a truly magical place. The property is located in a
small village outside of Ubud, a lovely 30 minute walk or 10 minute
drive to town. It is a retreat in the true sense of the word. The
property is private with stunning views of the rice fields. Each of the
3 bungalows are authentic, beautifully decorated, with magnificent
attached outdoor bathrooms. They are connected by a large expanse of
decking with gorgeous landscaping. One unique feature is the natural
spring fed pool constructed out of a boulder just above the river. To
soak here is the closest I've come to "the perfect place" All around
you are rice fields, waterfalls and the sound of the river. Food is
available and I would recommend that you eat here often as the food is
fresh, organic and wonderfully creative.Even my husband, a meat and
potatoes guy, loved the food. Some of our best meals in Bali were eaten
here overlooking these amazing views. The local people who work on the
property are friendly and eager to make your stay comfortable and the
family that live in a separate home on the premises are perfect hosts.
They are from the United States and were happy to not only share
information about the interesting history and construction of this
property but included us in some wonderful family outings that gave us a
richer understanding of the culture of Bali. The other wonderful aspect
about our stay was a daily walk around the village. Although few people
spoke English, they were all eager to communicate with us. We witnessed
daily life: were invited into homes, took digital pictures which the
children loved, even played billiards at the open air and always busy
"pool hall' We loved our stay and would recommend it without
reservation.

Dear Ruth,
You have given us the kindest, most generous and detailed review we have received! We are glad we could share the beauty of this place with you both. You certainly came in the spirit of adventure and were met in kind with fun experiences! We are happy you could appreciate the exquisite natural springs dip and this whole place like we do! I am sure the villagers appreciate your openness to join with them in their daily activities. We look forward to meeting up with you again.

My family and I had one of our greatest holidays ever @ The Springs in Ubud.
We loved Bali, we loved Ubud and we loved the house and surroundings @ The
Springs in Ubud. The house is simple luxury in truly green surroundings, just
what we needed coming from Dubai. The view of the green green rice fields
and the river gorge can't be described - have to be experienced.
The house was kept very nice and clean through out our stay and the staff was
very friendly and beautiful people. Also the food we were served was delicious
and healthy.
The house is located a bit out of the centre of Ubud but in walking distance if
you do not have young kids - with the kids we hired a taxi.....which was also
very easy and convenient.
We highly recommend The Springs @ Ubud for people who wishes to
experience true nature in simple luxury on the beautiful island of Bali. We
would return to The Springs @ Ubud at first given occasion.Response from Dan V Kimball - 05/18/2010

The Kimball's guest houses outside of Ubud are a beautiful retreat. The design
of the buildings, decks, and gardens are wonderful and serene. We especially
enjoyed sitting out on the expansive decks overlooking the ravine. Breakfast
was served quietly each morning on the deck without ruffling the calm.
The only difficulty we had was figuring out how to get in and out of Ubud itself
as The Springs is not within walking distance of town so it is necessary to hire
drivers to get back and forth. While drivers are plentiful when coming from
town, it was sometimes hard to explain where The Springs is located. And to
go in the other direction, it was important to arrange for a driver to pick us up
at a set time as we did not travel with a cell phone.
Other than these logistics, the setting, buildings and grounds, and service
were lovely.Response from Dan V Kimball - 05/10/2010

Greetings,
Thank you very much for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay except for the transportation and communication challenges you experienced. So sorry you did experience these. We have taken action to remedy this.
We understand phones from other countries require high rates per phone call. We now have a mobile phone for guests who do not wish to purchase a local phone or do not have a good international calling system. They may use this and take it with them while they are at The Springs.
We have a printed map of our place in relation to Ubud. We had it when you were here and are sorry if you did not one! Multiple copies are now in an updated Guest information book full of information and brochures for our guests. That information includes the names and phone numbers of reliable drivers and locations for motorbike rentals. Many nice and helpful drivers know our place well.
Thank you again and hope to see you in Bali or California again!
