Left on 03/26/2013 for a stay in February 2013
The open air tree house experience is what makes this property unique. But it goes beyond that..from the smiling, ever obliging staff, to the delicious and inexpensive food, the attention to detail in the decor and the immaculate cleaning and upkeep. What's not to love about sipping cheap cocktails by the infinity pool overlooking the valley with some cool Cd's playing in the background and a massage for two with flower bath to follow? The owners have thought of everything with a detailed guest book of recommendations, to a Nescafe machine for breakfast coffee and a copious, delicious breakfast included. Don't hum and ha and compare..just book yourself in today! You'll love it.

The place is really great. The view is beautiful. The people and the service are excellent: always available, nice, friendly and discreet. Oh, yes: the food...! We had a really wonderful week. My daughters loved it. And its near the center of Ubud, which makes everything much easier.

Shamballa was the highlight of our holiday. It truely felt like home and it was difficult to leave. Illuh and Kadek made our stay even more memorable. They were such lovely hosts and made us so welcome. The villa was so comfortable that we rarely ventured out.

Left on 02/19/2013 for a stay in February 2013
This villa is simply stunning. Set in a great location just outside of Ubud looking out over a valley in the jungle. Believe me you start to relax from the moment you arrive.
The tastefully decorated lounge area with relaxing sofas was a great area to enjoy a cold glass of wine. The bedroom upstairs was huge with great views over the jungle. The bedroom faces towards the east so you awake each morning with sunrise on your bed. The infinity pool looking out over the valley was as good as it looked in the photos and during stressful times I picture myself back there resting on the edge. We could hardly drag ourselves away from the place and spent hardly any time in Ubud town.
We had dinner at the villa for the first night and were glad we did. It was served in a great setting out by the pool with lovely food and genuinely friendly service. It was a brilliant way to immerse ourselves in the overall experience of Shamballa.
The staff of Iluh and Kadek are truly incredible and looked after us with such warmth during our stay my wife almost had tears in her eyes when she left.
We have already contacted the owners regarding our next stay.
Tip: I can also strongly recommend the massage as it was possibly the best I have ever had. -

We are frequent visitors to Bali. However, staying at Villa Shamballa was a completely back to nature/relaxing experience. We enjoyed the breathtaking views to the valley, the infinity pool and the top service from the in house staff.
We will definitely come back.

My aunt and i stay in January for 11 nights in villa shamballa.
We had a wonderful time. The food was fantastic, it make no sense to go out and eat in a restaurant, Iluh cooks so fantastic we love it!
Villa shamballa is on a perfect area from where you can make trips in every direction.
It is wonderful to stay in a privet house, you have your totally privacy and can enjoy your time in Bali, but you have in this house still the comfort of a five star hotel!
The house is on a beautiful place with a perfect view! The rooms are very nice with a fantastic outside bath. We would love to come back once to villa shamballa with all the lovely peoples(and the lovely cat).
Thanks for all and we can every one advise villa shamballa who need some time to relax.

Left on 01/20/2013 for a stay in November 2012
My husband and I stayed at Villa Shamballa in early November 2012 for our honeymoon and were not disappointed. The Villa is truly beautiful and immaculate. The staff made us feel very welcome and the food was the best we have had on the whole trip - restaurant quality we believe (and we like our food/eating out), the margarita's where also very good. Wendy and atsu were extremely helpful and quick to respond on email. The villa is slightly outside of the main tourist hub but we personally liked this and Wayan the driver was always on had to take us where ever we wanted to go. What you may not be aware of from the photo's is that there is a road on the other side of the valley which can be a little noisy at certain times of the day due to the mopeds - but this didn't impact on our stay and waking up to the view was just stunning.
If you are after affordable luxury then this is the place to go - we felt very fortunate to be spending our honeymoon there. -

When I entered the villa I was speechless by the beauty of it and barely noticed that the friendly ladies who take care of the house asked for my name. You immediately feel as if you're part of a dream. The sunny pool, the comfortable sitting area, the great view and the outdoor bathroom are on its own more than you expect. The cherry on the cake is the spacious bedroom which takes up the entire width of the house and provides you with a beautiful view through the windowless space. This place just wants you to stay at home and enjoy it every minute whilst you can. It's not far from the centre of Ubud (when you take a taxi it's about 10 to 15 minutes- one day we walked and it took us an hour, better to take a car when it's hot). The dinners that Kadek and Iluh provided us with were of high quality and there is a big variety of dishes to choose from.
You will undoubtedly enjoy this stay!

We stayed 2 nights at Villa Shamballa at the end of our Bali holiday and it was a great way to end our holiday. First of all let me say the views cannot be beat and we both spent hours just staring out! Yes the road on the other side can be noisy at times and the first day i did find it quite noticeable but by the second day i was used to it and it receded into the background and was not a problem at all. The villa itself is fantastic with a good size pool (that as other people have noted only gets sun until about 1 but don't worry it's still warm enough to swim in after that!), a lovely downstairs area with comfy couches and a tv, dvd player and stereo. The upstairs bedroom area with the large bed and different sitting areas was a lovely retreat and we spent the afternoons up there playing cards, dozing or just staring at the view! My only problem with the layout is the main outdoor bathroom with the lovely outdoor shower and big bathtub backs onto the staff area at the back and feels quite exposed so we didn't really feel comfortable using it and pretty much stuck to using the small and darker inside bathroom upstairs. Ulun and Kadek were assisting us during our stay and are wonderful - unobtrusive yet there when we needed them - from lighting candles all around the villa at dusk (which was beautiful) and preparing the upstairs area for bedtime through to cocktail hour and the delicious food they prepared and teaching my some Indonesian and not laughing at my bad attempts to practise it they were a delight! As mentioned previously the food was definately a highlight - Uluh's cooking was beautiful and we ended up eating in the villa for every meal! We tried several entrees and mains and every one was delicious - i'd highly recommend spending your evening meals in the villa - particularly as the villa is a little way out of town and we found it not so convenient to go into town.
All in all this was a delightful place to stay and i would love to return. -

Sometimes, not often, you get to spend time in a place that stays with you long after you have left. Villa Shamballa is one such place.
I think of it every night as I am drifting to sleep.I recall the sounds of the nightbirds roosting in the trees by the pool and the geckoes clicking in the rafters. I pretend I will wake to the crowing of roosters and the soft blush of another dawn slinking through bamboo blinds.I tell myself that a wonderful breakfast will be ready for me at a time of my choosing - and it will be served by a gentle smiling woman.I promise myself yet another day where I will be unable to tear my eyes from the stunning vista - unless it is to close them and indulge in a deeply soothing massage by the pool.
I shall return. I tell myself that each day - and it is my last thought as I fall asleep.
Yes - the service is incomparable, the food is divine, the villa is immaculate and exquisitely furnished and the views are, quite simply, incredible. But there are lots of places with those characteristics in Ubud. What Villa Shamballa provides goes way beyond all of that. I have stayed in some stunning properties in Ubud including the Four Seasons, the Hanging Gardens, the Ibah, the Pita Maha, the alila, the Maya. However, it is Villa Shamballa that has truly resonated with me.
Yes, I shall return - again and again and again. -

this food in a very very good restaurant but not in a villa.
Only negatives are the noise road and only sun till 13:00 hrs. -

We had a wonderfull time at Villa Shamballa.
The Villa itself is a luxury hideaway in the nature with stunning views. We particularly liked sunrise / sunset time and morning swimming in the infinite pool.
The staff is exceptionally welcoming, friendly, helpfull and unobtrusive. We thank Kadek, Iluh and Gusti for their sweetness and know-how. We particularly appreciated Iluh's delicious cooking and smile. We even had a cooking lesson with Iluh, learning how to make the delicious curry and beef rendang. The food you'll experience at the Villa is one of the best you'll experience in Bali.
We also visited Tegalalang, Tirta Empuhl, Tampak Skirring, Jatiluhi, Uluwatu, Padang Padang ... with a dedicated nice and experienced driver. He can as well take you to Ubud (5mns away) for a handicraft shopping session.
We had yoga lessons and massages in Ubud as well as at the Villa.
I have to let you know, your dreams will soon come true !

Villa Shamballa absolutely blew us away from the first moment on our recent honeymoon. The villa itself is a little piece of heaven in one of the most spectacular and beautiful corners of the world however it was the friendliness of the staff and the care and attention they put into every tiny detail that made it truly special. If yu're looking for amazing luxury that's close to Ubud but secluded and quiet this is the place to go!

Villa Shamballa exceeded my expectations and I can only echo the other reviews here.
The villa is located just outside of Ubud – close enough to go into town if you want to, but far removed from the busyness of the centre of town. It is beautifully designed and furnished – the open bedroom is a unique feature. The staff were among the best we have experienced at any of the villas we have stayed in around Bali – unobtrusive but always there when you needed something. This is a perfect place to relax – we enjoyed the morning yoga class, great massages (without being overpriced as they are at some villas), and excellent food. Loved the little touches like cocktail hour and nespresso coffee.
As some reviewers have noted, there is some traffic noise from across the valley – mostly in the morning and evening peak hours - and the pool only has morning sun, but these are minor issues and will not stop us from making a return visit next trip to Bali! -

The place is simply amazing. Only a few minutes after arrival it already felt like home. Kadek, Iluh and Gusti pay a lot of attention to the details (for. e.g. fresh flower decorations all over the villa) and do everything to make the guests feel comfortable. The villa is in good condition, very clean and the pool just amazing. The food which is really superb is cooked with 100% fresh ingredients, bought on the local market.
Getting up in the morning for sunrise is truly a unique experience given the perfect view from the bedroom. Villa Shamballa is a spacious place but due to the nice decoration and setup still very cozy. If you stay for a couple of days there is absolutely no need to get out of the villa. It was really hard to leave this beautiful place. -

This was my first time in an open villa and would've stayed here much longer. The two story villa has lots of living space with a view over the gorge. Upon entering the villa we were greeted by the lovely staff and entered a paradise lined with plumeria flowers and a soft glowing pool. What a great first impression!
The meals prepared in the villa were the best we had while in Bali. I loved the green beans with coconut and also nasi goreng for breakfast. Fresh and delicious.
We felt treated like we were Balinese and were invited to join our hostess at the local temple. Loved the community.
The property is kept very clean inside and on the grounds. Loved the sounds of our little frog and geckos in the evening with our cocktail. Loved the smell of incense floating through the air. Loved the sight of early morning fog lingering in the gorge. Loved the freedom of the outdoor shower.
The Wi-Fi had a fast enough connection to Facetime to the States with little issue. Since it was vacation the electronics were really shut down other than to check in.
My only word of caution would be that the stairs are a little steep for maybe the elderly or small children. -

What a wonderful experience we had at Villa Shamballa. It is difficult to describe the ambiance of the villa - there is something very magical about it. My partner and i stayed at the heavenly Villa Shamballa in Ubud for a romantic 5 nights in July 2012 and it was indeed a magical experience. The views are simply breathtaking and the villa itself is stunning. It truly is as beautiful as viewed on the website!!
Upon entering the villa we were treated with kindness and love by the friendly natured staff. Tending to our every need, they were pleasant and planned all of our activities with ease. Almost acting like friendly ghosts - we barely came into contact with them whilst they would draw blinds, light candles, prepare meals, clean... the list goes on.
The sunset massage, followed by a luxurious frangipani bath was an absolute treat and morning yoga on the pooldeck is also a lovely way to welcome in the day. We also enjoyed our afternoon swim in the glorious pool and cocktails whilst lazing in the sun.
Ubud is a peaceful (quiet) place, but there's still plenty to see and do - We hired a scooter and cruised around the picturesque rice paddies. We walked through central Ubud. Lunch at Sari Organik was a wholesome and lovely experience. I also enjoyed a class at The Yoga Barn.
The food at the villa has been nothing but superb!! The corn fritters, grilled fish, nasi goreng, chicken curry and banana pancakes all a highlight for us.
Villa Shamballa's beauty is truly mind-blowing. It has a peacefully warm energy surrounding it and you will love every minute spent here. We will most certainly be back! -

We spent one week at Villa Shamballa in Payogan as part of our honeymoon. The villa is stunning - exactly as it looks in the pictures, but even more breathtaking when you see it in reality. We felt at home right away. The views from the villa are marvellous, and we spent hours just sitting in the lounge area or by the pool watching the greenery and playing with Mec, the house cat. What made our stay most memorable, however, were our hosts at the villa - two lovely Balinese ladies who looked after our every need and spoilt us with delicious home cooking! The villa is in a good location for exploring the local area; just a short taxi ride will take you into Ubud and plenty of local sites are easily accessed by car, and there are also numerous beautiful walking routes through rice paddy fields and opportunities for local bike tours in the area. We were excited about the villa's rural location; the only slightly negative point to mention would be the road that runs past on the hillside opposite the villa. While it is not a major road, it does get quite a lot of traffic, particularly in the mornings ("rush hour"?), so we initially found it hard to sleep as the bedroom has no external walls. The wildlife (crickets, frogs etc.) is also quite loud at night, so our airplane earplugs turned out to be real sleep savers!

Our stay at Villa Shamballa was absolutely incredible.
As we opened the front Balinese doors we stepped into our own private paradise laced with frangipani flowers and a view that couldn't get much better.
The staff are great and friendly, as is Mac the cat who can be seen playing in the gardens every so often. The food prepared by the staff is fantastic especially the shredded green beans with coconut. We ordered it 2 nights in a row. Breakfast is beautiful overlooking the rainforest which can also be done from the infinity pool. The tranquility is sometimes disrupted by the revs of a motorbike on a nearby road but they soon dissappear and your back to relaxing on the loungechairs by the pool with an icy cold drink.
The only unpleasant part of our stay was leaving the villa.
This is by far the most beautiful place which we have stayed.
Many thanks to the staff and owners.

We discovered Villa Shamballa through Trip advisor. We were not disappointed for a minute. Emailing Wendy and atsu was easy in our build up to the stay - all sorts of great advice was offered, including the organization of our first meal. We were met at Denpasar airport by their driver and driven the 1.25 hours to the villa. The driveway gives no indication of the paradise at the end of the road. Greeted by Iluh and Kedak, we were thrilled with what our eyes took in...sheer bliss! The villa is spacious, private and yet close enough to Ubud. A word about Iluh's cooking...wow! So good! We easily walked to the nearest restaurants like Fly Cafe and Fuzion. A short 10 minute car ride takes you to central Ubud. Iluh helped us with our restaurant bookings to wonderful establishments such as Melting Wok Warung, Putu's Wild Ginger and Minami...all sensational eateries. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and breakfast by the pool is blissful. I fear our only problem will be getting another booking...so popular is Villa Shamballa that getting an available time is a real trick. The one concern that we had was the road on the opposite side of the valley...but it's very soon forgotten. Fireflies on our last night lit up the pool area, reminding us that we need to return soon and so we will!!

We stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon and it was paradise during the day. We are from North america, and therefore aren't accustomed to 'visitors' such as frogs, geckos, a little mouse once it is dark. During the day we had an amazing time, and the food and the staff were great. Everything was extremely clean, although it got a bit warm at night. We were a little bit afraid of the animals, but the staff was kind to us, and perhaps we should have expected it for such a location in an exposed villa. We did a yoga class and had massages at the villa, which were both very enjoyable.

We had such an amazing time at Villa Shamballa, it was the most luxurious accommodation we have ever stayed at with the most attentive and friendly staff.
Our highlights include-
-Morning yoga & massage by the pool, well worth it!!
-The sensational food - easily the best food we had in Bali (Seminyak & Ubud) - every meal we had we wanted to order again and again! (wish we had have done the cooking class to take home the chef's secrets!!)
-Happy hour by the pool & taking in the stunning view
-The open plan layout of the villa and service from the amazing & attentive staff - nothing was too much trouble for them and we are so grateful for them making our stay so perfect!
We would recommend making the most of lazing around in the sun by the pool in the mornings as the sun disappears from outdoor area in the afternoon - just be back in time for happy hour. -

The home is really lovely, the downstairs bathroom is spectacular, the infinity pool is great for lolling in, the people were lovely, the massage and yoga master that were hired for us were professional and excellent. Having dinner prepared the evening we arrived was a necessity and quite good, breakfast as well. The location is far enough away from the bustle of Ubud so that it was very, very relaxing. We liked the atmosphere of quiet. However, it was startling at first to hear traffic noise from the road across the valley. In the long run it didn't affect our overall review which is very excellent.

We would highly recommend this villa. Wendy will arrange for you to be picked up and dropped off at the airport or wherever you are going next; you can have (and should!) massages at the villa; the food is amazing; and the staff are friendly and always available, but they are not in the least overbearing.

Well where do we start, from the moment we arrived at the villa we were greeted with leis by the beautiful girls Iluh and Kadek, who looked after us from here on end.
We booked Shamballa for 4 nights which I thought would be more than enough, but no we could of stayed at least another 4 days.
I spent my birthday here and we organised a dinner party for a few of our friends to come over for the evening and had the staff cook a meal for us by the pool with 7 of our friends. It was amazing Iluh and Kadek cooked us a magnificant meal, and all I can say we only ate once out because the food was so good. The staff came out and gave me a surprise Birthday cake too, and they all sung Happy Birthday to me which was such a lovely surprise.
Waking up every morning with my Husband and Daughter to hear the sound of the birds and frogs and the most amazing sun rise was just fantastic...to watch, you felt like you were in a jungle and the views were so spectacular!
We had a beautiful breakfast every morning and now the girls know how to make the best iced coffee's ever.
Anything you wanted at Shamballa was never a problem from the staff, always tried to do everthing to make you feel at home.

We stayed at Villa Shamballa for our honeymoon. While driving down the windy path to get to the Villa I must admit we felt a little worried about exactly where we were going and about staying in a Villa all on its own. We shouldn't have worried because when we arrived we were amazed at how beautiful it was and greeted by lovely staff who made us feel very safe. The views overlooking the pool and out of the bedroom are absolutely amazing. Everything in the Villa is very open and there are no real walls or doors as such, so you are constantly wowed at how beautiful of a setting the Villa is in. As you can see in the photo's the pool is just amazing. We loved spending the day swimming and finishing it off with afternoon tea on the deck chairs. Illuh and Kadek cook yummy meals and they are very reasonably priced with the most expensive dish only being $10. We spent most nights in having dinner under the stars and taking in the view. We felt so pampered having dinner cooked for us each night. There wasn't a meal we didn't like. Mac the owners cat is very friendly and cute and makes you laugh while licking you and trying to eat your clothes. My husband doesn't generally like cats but even he liked Mac. We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Shamballa and it was great to see a different part of Bali. Ubud is a beautiful place with so many beautiful sights to see. Wayan the driver was fantastic he took us trekking and sight seeing and spoke very good english. The only downfall was that the hot water didn't last much longer than a few minutes, the wifi signal wasn't very strong and if you are a light sleeper like me the sun wakes you up first thing in the morning. The kitchen is only for staff use which we weren't aware of before arrival which doesn't really matter as there is no need to cook anything yourself. It would be handy to have a fridge that you could use though. However there are so many wonderful things about the Villa that make up for any of the downfalls. The staff that work there are there for you and cater to your every need. We felt like royalty! It was a lovely first week to our honeymoon and an amazing way to spend our first week as husband and wife.

This is a short note to thank atsu and Wendy (owners of Villa Shamballa),for the opportunity of experiencing part of Bali through our stay at their glorious Villa.
My partner (Jenny) and I had the most enjoyable time of our two week holiday. The facility that they call home was too picturesque for words.
Actually pictures cannot fully tell the story or show the beauty of this spot on earth. To wake each morning and gaze out from the open deck of the sumptuous bedroom to the sounds of whistleing birds, rushing water and the mist rising from the river deep in the valley below, all while you watch the sunrise transform the sky to a pallet of glorious colour, and then when you think how much better can this get, you are served breakfast by the infinity pool. And this is your start to the day!!!
The location, villa layout, decor and comfort of the home provide a truly luxurious setting. You cannot help but want to take it all in, relax and enjoy.
The few nights we were able to stay were way, way not enough. The fact it took a crowbar to extract me from the front gates to get me to leave was testermony to that.
We have bragged about our stay to friends who frequent Bali so its a fair chance they will be getting in line to experience this bit of heaven on earth.
The staff, the ever smiling and helpful, Iluh and Kadec at the Villa were exceptional. The food was amazing (we have already tried to replicate the food we enjoyed via our cooking lesson) Note to self: some more pactice required.
And we still talk about 'Mac' the resident cat, and our new found froggy friends that appeared at night to 'chat'.
During our two weeks in Bali we stayed at four different locations in Seminyak and Ubud, this was without exception the best facility and experience of them all.

We stayed at Villa Shamballa for 5 days to celebrate my birthday, and it was quite possible the most relaxing, luxurious holiday we've ever had.
Despite being a short drive to the center of Ubud, the villa feels wonderfully secluded and private. The views are just incredible, as is the villa itself. But I think the most amazing asset is the staff, they were simply incredible. Illuh's cooking is to die for.
I'm a very hot sleeper, and before I left I was a little concerned at the lack of windows/air conditioning. But this turned out to be no problem at all. The ceiling fans, the breeze, and the orientation of the property all meant I slept like a baby.
If you're looking to get away from it all and relax, you couldn't choose a better place.

Our full week at the Villa Shamballa at Ubud could only be described as idyllic.
If you want to wake up in the morning in your open bedroom with the mists or tropical rain greeting you through the forest, a quick swim in your own private pool followed by a breakfast cooked by your own chef, then this is the place.
The staff attend to your every detail and are gentle and generous in their service. They will also organise a massage, a cooking class or a driver for you. Make sure you also eat dinner at the Villa sometimes.
The Villa is in the small village of Payogan, about an easy 2km walk (or 5000 rupiah in a cab) from Ubud. You get the village experience and the local folk are very friendly to you as you walk through. Have a Bintang on the walk home.
This is a different experience to being in a resort hotel. It is luxurious and charming and you are well looked after in every way. We would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful place to stay a while. -

My partner and I stayed for 2 nights and right from arriving we were treated like royalty but the lovely staff Iluh and Ketut who could not do enough to look after us. They were such stars, always there with friendly smiles and plenty of laughter when trying to improve my basic Balinese. The villa has everything you could possibly want (including the amazing pool) and is decorated with true Balinese style and comfort. Drinking and eating in is also very reasonably priced if you don't feel like going anywhere ...and the food is delicious. The time went much to quickly unfortunately but we will definitely be back in the future.

The moment we entered this beautiful villa we knew we were in for a very special time.
From the warmth of the staff to the sophistication of the décor and the delicious food on offering, it truly was a stay second to none.
The staff were very kind to organize daily massages, a yoga teacher and local musicians to add to what was already an amazing stay, all our needs were catered for and made easy by not having to leave the villa to enjoy these luxuries.
Our time at Villa Shamballa has been one of the best holiday experiences I've ever had and I'm a seasoned traveler so thank you to all for taking care of us in such a wonderful way. I hope to return many more times in the future. -

The staff are one of the most pleasant, gentle and amazingly hospitable people I've met. They catered for our every whims and needs from arrival to check out. The place feels magical and you instantly unwind from normal life. The bedroom is humbly elegant and the pool had a beautiful view looking out to nice greenery. The location is fantastic as it is close to town but far enough to feel like your exclusively in Ubud. Having in service massage by the pool and yoga at dawn was refreshing. You feel very spoilt and blessed to have such an experience. Try the pineapple pancakes for breakfast by the pool is a must!

I wanted a relaxing , peaceful holiday to celebrate my 40th birthday & Villa Shamballa was more than I had dreamed of.
The Villa is breath taking , the service is better than any 5 star hotel & the food is tastier than most of the food we ate in hotels.
Excellent value for money as the food & drinks are cheaper that local Cafes & Warungs.
Any activities you wish to undertake can be arranged & nothing to a hassle for the beautiful staff ( I wanted to bring them home with me)
What more can I say but we will be back & we are telling all our friends

The villa was wonderful with beautiful & helpful staff who made us feel very comfortable. The food was great and catered well for the eating habits of my kids as well as providing some tasty Indonesian food. The villa is about 15 minutes drive from Ubud but with taxis being very cheap I preferred to be away from the noise and the shops. The view, the pool, the food & the staff made for a very relaxing holiday.

As if the setting isnt enough, the staff are simply wonderful! They were so generous, helpful and committed to making sure our stay was perfect in every way. We ate our best meals in Bali at Villa Shamballa, and attempted to recreate the flavours in a personal cooking lesson!
We will definitly be going back if we can get in again, a place this great is bound to book out quickly! -

Brooklyn, NYVilla Shamballa: Truly a Paradise with Heart
Left on 04/04/2011 for a stay in March 2011
We love this place! The villa, itself, is truly beautiful beyond belief: breathtaking views, tasteful, artful decorations, outdoor/indoor living, attention to detail and just an overall feeling of high-end, elegant living without being stuffy. But, we must say what truly makes Villa Shamballa so unforgettable is the heart of the place, which is the staff. Iluh, Kadek and Edi took such great care of us with their easy smiles, friendly manner, openness to getting to know us and, also, the amazing cooking. They made our stay so special that we did not want to leave to go to our other villa in the north. They were also fantastic at arranging a driver for us, scooters, making reservations, ordering food. We had the massage of our lives poolside at the house thanks to a call Iluh made! Better than any spa!
We swam in the infinity pool every day, enjoyed the temple sounds through the mountains, the mist in the morning, the visits from the geckos, yoga and meditation on the deck, beautiful sunrises from our canopy bed, the smells from all the fragrant, unusual flowers (some of which were used for our floral bath), admired the bamboo while taking an outdoor shower, relished all the wonderful scents including the light incense lit daily for offerings, and delighted in the overall feeling of relaxation, renewal and well being at the villa.
It's about ten minutes into town by scooter (which we loved!), car or a nice, long walk through the breathtaking rice paddies. Be sure to visit the artist Wayan Rana known as the egg painter. We were treated like Kings at this lovely villa and will never forget our stay, which is why when we return to Bali, we will stay here again.

no words I could find to describle the experience, because it is just too good to be real! Wake up by the singing of birds accompanied by beautiful sunrise every morning. The warm smile and helpful tips from the staff make the place like your second home!
Oh, and believe it or not... you would find it hard to drag yourself out from the pool; anyone would just find yourself fall in love with the pool on moment of arrival.
Don't forget to indulge yourself with the best poolside message every day!

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Villa Shamballa and were completely overwhelmed by the quality of service. The Villa itself accommodates everything you could possibly want plus more.
The staff are so lovely you want to take them home with you! Illuh's cooking is amazing, my wife being a coeliac was absolutely no problem, Illuh catered for her gluten free needs. Kadek and Eddy are so attentive in every aspect we could not fault them. Wayan's tours are a must for seeing the surrounds!!!
The Villa infinity pool is a lovely place to watch the world go by day or night and the surrounds of the villa add to the already relaxed atmosphere. Each room in the villa accommodates well and is very spacious. The bed is possibly one of the best I have ever slept in and the top floor the most relaxing room of the villa.
Thank you once again to all the staff for making our honeymoon so very special; we simply cant thank you enough. -

My partner and I spent a week at Villa Shamballa, another week would have been great. It is really well set up in terms of room layout and amenities, the infinity pool perches on the edge of a steep valley with the Wos River roaring about 100 metres below. The staff are fantastic, from the pick up by Wayan at the airport, being spoilt with home cooked Kari ayam (Chicken Curry) and Nasi Goreng by Illuh the cook, who is also happy to teach you her secrets. Kadek and Eddy keep the house, garden and pool spotless without imposing themselves on you. They also made us feel like locals, taking us to the nearby temple on a festival dayy.
The Villa is tucked away near the village of Payogan about five mins drive from Ubud. We walked into Ubud a couple of times, there are some beautiful views and experiences along the way.
I'm hard pressed to think of any downsides. It's a very peaceful place 90% of the time, sometimes there is a bit of traffic on a road across the valley around knock off time when people head home from work. I think I noticed it because it is so quiet most of the time. Oh, the fire flies are cute.
Thanks Shamballa angels.
