We stayed in villa palm merah for 5 blissful nights. We were so happy to see just how private it was. We have two kids aged 9 & 7 and the pool was just fantastic. We were close to many cute restaurants and shops and it was an easy cheap cab ride into the thick of ubud at anytime. You could also walk if you wanted. Agus looked after us so well and we found everyone around very helpful with ideas of things to do and see. We definitely recommend a stay here extremely clean and a great location.

We have been travelling to Bali, especially Ubud and the mountain areas, for almost 30 years. As Ubud got busier, we gravitated to Penestanan, a little village knownn as the artist's village, off the main road, but approximately a 15 minute walk to Ubud. Penestanan now has several restaurants, spas and salons and is a short walk through the rice paddies to Bintang, the biggest and best supermarket in the area. You can leave your villa and be wandering through rice paddies in a few minutes.
Now to the villa! Steve and his team have done a superb job, as usual. Palm Merah is absolutely wonderful, as are all the villas Steve manages. The two bedrooms are air conditioned, the pool is large and inviting, the furniture, paintings and decorations are tasteful, the garden is beautifully landscaped, the outdoor garden room is ideal for reading, relaxing, doing crosswords, drinking a glass of wine or a Bintang, and the villa is equipped with books, games, a microwave oven and absolutely everything you could possibly need on a holiday. The boys come every morning and serve a delicious breakfast of fruit, toast and coffee, plus eggs if you want something a little more substantial. They also keep the villa immaculate and go out of their way to help you in any way they can. We love the location, as it is an easy walk up to the main road, but very quiet and peaceful. -

We spend 4 weeks in this wonderful villa. Perfect place with a lot of privacy. Augus, who came every morning to make breakfast and clean our room was great. So friendly and helpfull. Close to a local shop with alle the basic needs. Great walking path through ricefields to the big supermarket Bintang. A couple of restaurants in the neighbouthood. We loved Bayou Kitchen with great music on Sundays. They also do delivery to the villa. Thanks for your hospitality Steve, we loved our stay.

It is my second time that I stay in villas of the same owner. This one is even better: very confortable rooms, two beautiful living rooms, very nice pool, good kitchen with everything you need. A very nice guy comes to cook the breakfast and do the cleaning. He is very discret and does not bother at all. I will stay there again next times.

Gold Coast, AustraliaAnother wonderful holiday
Left on 01/06/2013 for a stay in November 2012
This year my annual vacation was once again taken in Ubud; what a surprise! I try and get there once a year.
The last two weeks of November was the only time I could get away, and I was prepared to experience the wet season once more. Wrong! Most days were hot and sunny, and humid as expected, with exciting electrical storms at night lighting up the sky and the heavy rain cooling down the air and refreshing the countryside.
Villa Palm Merah is a delightful two bedroom, two bathroom premises, with its own pool, tropical gardens and total privacy. The kitchen is well equipped and the lounge area is comfortable with a large flat screen TV as well as Wi-Fi connection.
Every morning our roomboy agus would arrive and prepare a beautiful breakfast of fresh tropical fruit salad, toast and tea and while we were eating, he'd make the bed, tidy the garden and attend to the pool. Nothing was too much trouble; we never had to lift a finger. He even went shopping at the local supermarket for us, getting extra supplies like cheese, biscuits and Bintang (the local beer).
Our daily routine settled into reading and catching up with emails in the morning, a few dips in the pool to cool off, then a visit to Eve Spa for a treatment, a light lunch and maybe a couple of cold beers at Bayu's Kitchen, an afternoon nap, then into town for some shopping, sightseeing and dinner.
Having an evening drink, skinny dipping in the pool, and then retiring to our air-conditioned bedroom topped off many beautiful days.
This villa would be very suitable for two couples, a family of four, or just a couple of friends, like us, who wanted privacy.
It's a two minute walk to the car park for transport, restaurants nearby to eat in, or take-away, and of course treatments at Eve Spa. The perfect holiday spot!

Perfect end to a 1 month honeymoon
Left on 10/14/2012 for a stay in September 2012
Me and my wife took a 1 month honeymoon in Thailand, Malaysia and Bali. We decided to spend the last week in Ubud for a relaxing week. The villa was by far the best part of our honeymoon and we will always fondly remember the time there.
The villa is 100% private and secluded, which was my number 1 priority in finding a villa. A lot of other villas I looked into didn't have the high walls and 100% privacy.
The location was perfect, the local neighbors were always nice to us. Several restaurants within a 5 minute walk of the villa, or u can rent a scooter from a shop a 2 minute walk from the villa.
We rented a scooter and used that to drive into ubud and to get around and it was perfect.
I really can't find a single flaw with the villa except for the Internet speed, which was barely usable, but I noticed a lot of places in Ubud didn't exactly have high speed Internet.
The service was perfect, the Houseboy augus, strikes the perfect balance of being available and respecting your privacy.
This place really is perfect -

Having stayed in andaround ubud for over almost 30 years, villa palm merah really surprised me. All the luxuries of a high quality resort In a location that affords the everyday view of Balinese life.
The villa is just like the photos, pool gorgeous and living and sleeping facilities supremely comfortable. Agus is a gem, banana pancakes or eggs done to your liking - the choice is hard. His pride and care of the villa really makes the place.
Enjoy bayus kitchen and eves spa up the road, walk through the lanes to rice paddys or the bin tang supermarket.
There's a reason this villa is heavily booked...wish it was just for me. Can't recommend ubud private villas and Steve's service enough. Hope I can find an available villa to return to soon!Response from PrivateUbudVillas - 11/17/2012

We discovered on this trip the enjoyment of eating locally as apposed to in town. The villa is in a perfect spot to choose from around a dozen warongs. It wasn't until the last night we went literally 10 paces to Bubu's and had a delicious dinner.
The service from all the staff at the villa helped make our trip to Ubud even more memorable. The villa was always extremely clean, the bedding very comfortable, air conditioned bedrooms, full kitchen if needed.
We would defiantly recommend staying here and didn't want to leave.

The service at Palm Merah was exmplary, the building itself is stunning and beautifully laid out. The location is quiet but not too far from shops and restaurants. The privacy allows for total relaxation. The pool is magnificent but would be an issue for families with toddlers.

The Villa was much larger than expected and very new. It has two large bedrooms with a bathroom each (shower only, but heaps of space), which was perfect for my friend and I.
You are about a 10min walk from central Ubud, which we liked. It very busy in the town centre and we found the villa was a little more secluded. There are small shops, restaurants, a spa and yoga at your fingertips and all so cheap.
In comparison to our accommodation in Seminyak, this was like a palance. Really impressed for the price and it even had aircon.
I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. -

Left on 06/26/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We (2 single gals) stayed for 4 nights in Villa Palm Merah in May this year. It is a beautiful villa, very clean & spacious, with one note, this is an open air style villa and as such ants have no problem wandering in, especially if you leave spills & food lying around, but this is no big drama and you would experience this no matter where you stay if you didn't clean up after yourself!!!). Agus, who cleaned & made our brekkie each day, was an absolute delight. A short walk up a lane way brings you to the Round Bar, run by a great bunch of guys & Eve Spa was just across the road from this. We had a great 4 hour pampering session there. Ubud is so much nicer than the coastal areas, lovely and quiet, no hassles. But still plenty of shopping, great restaurants & lively bars for a few drinks. My friend who was with me has already booked in her return trip for next year and I will certainly go back too!!!

We really loved staying at this villa, it was a very relaxing start to our trip. It is very well appointed, and we were well looked after by agus, the room boy, who came each morning to do us fresh fruit for breakfast. It's only a cheap, 5 min ride by car to Ubud, or about 30 mins if you want to walk. We had our young daughter with us, but if we were on our own we would hire scooters and zap in and out whenever we felt like it. All up a great place to wind down and get into holiday mode!

This villa was our first spot in Bali, and it was the best by far. A driver came to pick us up and brought us to the villa. The villa is so clean and has so many beautiful details. The open lay out of the house is awesome but bedrooms have doors and aC which is nice at night. This place was so affordable and offered a big bang for the buck. It actually has a great location as well and is in somewhat of a residential area where locals live. The place comes with a "house boy" who comes to make a nice simple breakfast of toast, fruit, and coffee. This place was absolutely perfect for us, I can't think of anything negative to contribute at all. We wished we had extended our stay in Ubud and at this lovely little villa.

The villa was fantastic value for money and we would highly recommend it to any one interested in a Bali holiday. The local Warung are cheap to eat at and they deliver to the villa as well.

BangkokValue for money accommodation
Left on 07/23/2011 for a stay in June 2011
- What we like most about Villa Palm Merah was the value for money. We get 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, private full kitchen and swimming pool at the price of a double room in normal hotel. However what we have to give up is hotel like service. There is no telephone in the unit to call your house boy if you need anything.
- Tropical breakfast has only fruits and tea or coffee so it's better to stock up the fridge with your own breakfast.
- The drains for shower in both bathroom are not really working. On the 2nd day that we stayed the drain in the small bathroom was clogged so water came out to the bedroom and all over the place.
- We believe the house boy just put chlorine in the pool before we get there so there were chlorine residual all over the pool floor makes it unswimmable. (He might have put a bit too much too because even the next day that we swam, the smell of the chlorine and the taste of the water was really strong)
- Location-wise it is quite close to the city, but bare in mind that if you're walking back from the town center or Ubud palace it is an uphill walk.
- Wi-fi internet always comes and goes make it impossible to use
To sum it up:
We love the price, the quietness of the area, the room, big bathroom, daybed, private pool, full kitchen
We don't really like shower drain, location of the house, tropical breakfast, internet -

Left on 06/24/2011 for a stay in May 2011
We enjoyed our stay at the villa. It was modern and fun staying somewhere so different from home. I loved all the Balinese touches of style around the house. Only thing that wasn't great for us was the layout. We have young children and I would have liked a connecting door between the bedrooms, since they lead straight outside. The property manager was extremely helpful and very quick and helpful to respond.

We enjoyed the stay in "our" cozy villa. It is a very new villa and is well maintained. It is a quite place although outside they were building new villas, we didn't hear a lot of noise. The location is not so easy to find and outside of Ubud. We enjoyed the fresh prepared fruits for breakfast every morning. If we come back to Ubud we definetely will stay there again. Gold CoastPeace, Privacy and Luxury in the rice fields!
Left on 03/11/2011 for a stay in February 2011
After being met at the airport by smiling, happy staff, my scenic trip to Ubud introduced me to the amazing country side of terraced rice paddys, quaint villages and people dressed in their finery in preparation for a ceremony. The staff carried my luggage to the villa and I was in for a huge surprise on entering through the carved wooden doors; spectacular gardens, sparkling swimming pool, lounge and kitchen with all the modern facilities and airconditioned bedrooms with their own ensuite. What luxury! After my room boy agus showed me where everything was, he quietly left, leaving me time to swim, read, snooze on the magnificent day bed then decide what I was going to have for dinner. Within 3 minutes walk of the villa I found a really good 'warung' (restaurant) called Bayu's Kitchen. I met the owner himself; Bayu is one of the chefs. The selection of food was impressive; barbeques, Indonesian, Thai and Sri Lankan. Over the period of my holiday, I tried just about everything and all was delicious. Of course being an aussie, I needed cold beer, and this was served just as we like it, plus with chilled glasses; what a bonus. Agus served me breakfast at the villa every day; tropical fruit salad, toast and tea, and while I enjoyed this, he magically made the bed and cleaned the villa. This must be what heaven really is like!

Set amongst beautiful rice paddies nearby, the villa is an inviting getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. The bedrooms and bathrooms are exquisite and quite expansive and the facilities are great (the Christchurch earthquake occurred during our stay, but we were able to keep up to date with the free wifi). The pool is always warm and inviting.
The villa is quite private and every morning we were treated to a smiling valet, who prepared our fruit based breakfast, then cleaned the rooms and made the beds. Following breakfast we would usually walk around the rice paddies. Very friendly people.
The villa is also in walking distance to a Spa centre, where we were pampered to traditional Balinese massages, and also close to very nice restaurants.
All in a great place to unwind.
