The most perfect holiday imaginable.
The photos on the website looked impressive but nothing could have prepared me for the comfort and beauty of Villa Vajra. The site is spectacular--lush gardens and vegetation, filled with orchids and tropical foliage, the villa itself spacious and so comfortable. Three of us stayed in the villa for five days; it could easily have accommodated six.
The staff was incredibly helpful, the food beautifully prepared and delicious. A car and driver were at our disposal, and when we invited a couple of friends staying elsewhere for dinner it went off without a hitch.
And finally, it's a pleasant walk or short drive to Ubud, culture capital of Bali
I heartily recommend Villa Vajra to anyone who wants a restful, idyllic, bordering on spiritual Haven.
Best of Bali: stunning luxury villa, gracious people, impeccable
Villa Vajra is the most magical, unique, beautiful place I stayed during my three weeks in Indonesia. I looked at lots of different villas and stayed at several other places before checking into Villa Vajra. Nothing compared. It is truly a unique and spectacular estate that affords privacy, tranquility, serenity and luxury.
From the moment my husband and I arrived, we found it hard to leave the villa. We loved the indoor-outdoor design of the estate; the outdoor living area and outdoor bathrooms were great. The grounds are stunning- the villa straddles the edge of the rice fields and the crest of a beautiful gorge above a river, with views of the other side of the valley. We loved wandering through the lovely gardens and enjoyed the yoga/meditation pavilion. The villa's location is close enough to Ubud to enjoy all it has to offer, and yet removed from the hustle and bustle (about a 10 minute drive or a beautiful, highly recommended walk).
The staff really made the experience memorable. Gusti, the manager, was friendly and attentive. He arranged in-house massage and yoga, and drove us to Ubud daily. The meals prepared by Ketut and Made, the chefs, were the best I had during my entire time in Bali. We're both foodies and really enjoyed crafting custom menus based on organic produce and fresh fish. The fish curry steamed in banana leaves was one of the tastiest things I've ever had. And Saba (wonderful!) made awesome mojitos.
The owners, Joel and Nirgrantha, are gracious hosts with a plethora of knowledge about the area and great recommendations. They live in another villa across the rice paddy with two very sweet Golden Retrievers. We are so glad to have gotten to know them a bit, and look forward to going back next time we're in Bali.

Exceded all expectations!
Villa Vajra was the most perfect vacation home.
The setting is breathtaking and the staff exceptional from the moment we arrived until we departed 5 days later.
We felt like we had become part of the family.
The villa has beautiful amenities and it is better than the pictures on the website.
The furnishings are lovely and the food terrific.
I would give it a 10+++
As a family of 6, with 3 generations from Mexico & UK, we stayed in Varja for 3 days from the 4th-7th February 2014.
Having seen photos on the internet we knew we had chosen an extremely beautiful place, however on arrival we were simply spellbound by everything, and were continually amazed with the everything Varja contained: The actual home & amenities, all the staff (such professional, helpful, angels who were never intrusive and always available to provide for us); the impecably clean rooms; a resourceful study, with a magical view of the gardens from the desk (should we have chosen to work or use it to its potential); the outdoor bathrooms a real, fresh taste of the Tropics; the gardens so inviting and so lush, with fantastic walks easily followed by all ages and interests; the meditation patio simply perfect (all of us - from the 60+ to the 6 year old all were inspired to meditate)!
The food was 5 star standard with generous portions and extremely fair prices. We chose to eat moreso at the house for we were so impressed with the range of menu, the magical settings of the tables (the napkins being origamied into different shapes each meal were such a lovely touch, which the children were very impressed with)!
The pool and jacuzzis (one in the master bedroom) were fabulous - the onlooking Buddahs around the living area were a classy, spritual touch. Transport was readily avaiable and activities in Ubud were well advised; communication bewteen us, staff & businesses was perfect, all requests (including dietry requests) were met.
It was ideal to be away from the hubbub of Ubud - minutes away yet tucked superbly away from any noise. Coming home after a busy day out was heaven- melting into paradise each moment at the house.
There is no "best" or "worst", as our whole experience was simply magical - thankyou to all who made our stay one of the most memorable and serene holiday we have ever experienced!
A piece of paradise
The service received went beyond all expectations - thank you so much to Gusti and Saba, for whom nothing was too much trouble and always received with genuine smiles ...friends rather than staff. The villa is breathtaking. Rice fields to the front, jungle to the rear separated by beautiful luxury accommodation and grounds. The villa is breathtaking...each bedroom feels different and the open air living room is so relaxing...yet strangely intimate too. Located some way from town meant peace and quiet, travel in and out of town easily organised by Gusti. I loved my stay there...my only regret is that i couldn't stay longer!

We have rented villas and stayed in many of the best resorts in Bali and throughout SE asia on many occasions over the past 15 years. Villa Vajra is one of the very best. It ought to be included in the Luxe Guide to Bali if it isn't in the current edition. The location, quality of the villa its surrounds, the food and especially the attentiveness of the staff are simply top notch. We are already recommending to our friends that they try to arrange to spend some time at Villa Vajra and we will definitely be back.
A Villa in Shangri-la that deserves a lengthy stay!!
From the moment we were picked up at the airport by the Villa Vajra staff till we left, we were treated like royalty. This villa is outstanding, perfect for experiencing the essence of Bali. We didn't want to leave!
Villa Vajra is a marvelous picture out of "Architectural Digest". You're not in some cookie cutter hotel. Situated in the middle of a rice paddy, we knew we were somewhere special from the moment we walked through the arched plant clad bamboo gate into this creatively built Balinese villa.. There are fabulous areas to relax in. We sampled alfresco dining at its best, served by two fabulous in-house chefs (no need to eat out when we could sample excellent Indonesian food or select from a menu food of our choice). There is a beautiful picturesque pool with cascading falls to relax by or swim in, magnificent landscaped gardens, a tranquil meditation area and the air conditioned bedrooms are nicely appointed with local art and fresh flowers. There's even an outdoor shower! We experienced what it's like to live in a Bali village area and yet we were only a ten minute drive to Ubud. Joel, the owner, even pointed out a trail where we could walk to town. We didn't rent a car as the villa provided a ride into nearby Ubud where we could experience ancient temples, gamelan dancing and shopping for handicrafts and batiks. We liked that free Wi-Fi and internet was provided. Guisti and his staff were just wonderful attending to our needs. Per our request, they arranged massages for our party of five for when we arrived after a 28 hr. plane trip and also booked a great bicycle trip and rafting expedition for us for which we were picked up directly at Villa Vajra...Unbelievable service!!!
This is definitely a 5 Star Villa for those who want luxury, serenity, culture and comforts at an affordable price.

Paradise on Earth
"Villa Vajra is truly a little bit of paradise here on Earth. Set in the middle of stunningly green rice paddies, it includes 3 buildings. There is a very large guest house that includes the kitchen and gorgeous quarters that go down step by step to an outdoor eating area and a wonderful blue tiled swimming pool. There is also a magnificent 40 foot high thatched roof structure that serves as another guest house, a dining room and a media room. Finally, there is the home of the owners. The large staff is extremely helpful without being in any way obtrusive. The food that the 2 cooks prepare is superb and ranges from delicious Indonesian specialties to pasta to sushi to Mediterrenean fare. In sum, I can't think of a more beautiful, relaxing and sumptuous place for vacationing."
We stayed at Villa Vajra for only 5 days with friends and family and then moved to another property close to the beach following the desires of the younger crowd. I should say that we should have stayed there for the rest of our vacation or, perhaps, the rest of our lives.
The location could not be better. Sebali is a tranquil village some 15 min away by car from Ubud. Joel indicated a shortcut path that we could use to walk back and forth to Ubud, beautiful and quiet, which we took several times. Just walking and seeing people working in their rice paddies was relaxing and spiritually invigorating.
The architecture of the house is fabulous. A mixture of Balinese and modern with all the modern conveniences. The open plan of the living and dining room let nature, with its fragance, sounds and greenery, complemented by the pool waterfall, penetrate and wrap you. A massage in the meditation bale everyday made a perfect addition to our therapy of body and soul. The house is tucked on the rim of the valley, separating the rice paddies from the perfectly designed gardens which merged imperceptibly with the natural vegetation going down into the ravine.
But this paradise would not be human without the staff and owners of matching excellence. Everything you can think of is already solved. From where to go, to what to eat or drink. I have no words to describe this standard of service, all of this coordinated by the villa manager Gusti. We opted for having dinner at the villa every night. Ketut and Madi, the cooks, prepared wonderful Balinese fare better than anything you can find in Ubud, with an unbeatable setting. The villa attendants Saba and Gwayan (?) did a wonderful job in maintaining us always pampered.
In summary, it is the best vacation house I have ever been. I am already planning my next asian journey and two weeks at Villa Vajra is on schedule. I will look no further.
We stayed here for a week in august, 2013 with a group of seven adults. We had a marvelous time. The setting is serene, quiet yet accessible. Joel and Nigrantha are gracious hosts, generous and communicative with their expertise of the area. We are so grateful for the opportunity to have experienced a slice of their nirvana. One of the best bits of our stay was our interaction with the incredible staff of the villa, starting with Gusti, the villa manager, and extending to all the cooking staff, especially Ketut. We recommend staying here, and if you do, do choose to dine in. The food is incredible, affordable and healthy. Perhaps the truest comment we can offer is this: we will be back.
You too can experience your own little slice of heaven!
Where do I start about Villa Vajra - it would have to be one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed in. The setting is nothing short of spectacular. You almost feel like you are in a large tree house in the open plan living area, the lush green gardens/forest is simply breathtaking. Whilst luxurious it is also extremely homely - a hard combination to capture, but Vajra have succeeded
From the very sweet owner Joel who swung by to say Hello and welcomed us and also popped in to say Goodbye, to the staff-who were such gorgeous, calm, kind and hospitable people. The food was particularly yummy in fact everything was just divine and we were very sad to leave. If ever I am in Ubud again, I will definitely stay at Villa Vajra and will be recommending to my family and friends.
Heaven! The best food & staff!!
A group of 6 of us stayed at this 3-4 bedroom villa in the beautiful Ubud, we only stayed 5 nights and wished we had stayed longer. Compared to the rest of stay in Bali, this was the best! Mainly due to the staff and the quality of the food prepared by Katut & Made (hope I spelt correctly!) This team of staff said they had worked there for 8 years, that's an indication of great team resulting in fabulous service. The location is beautiful & stunning, and we must give a bit shout out to the Champung Spa next door (again I hope I spelt correctly), 4 out of the 6 us of had treatments there and it was amazing to say the least. If you're staying in Ubud - Villa Vajra is a must stay! We'll be back :) Megan & Co (June 2013)
Heaven on Earth Exists!!!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Villa Vajra. Just get your bags packed and get there asap!!! The staff was excellent, friendly, and unobtrusive. They catered to our every need, made us feel like queens, and did anything and everything we needed to make our stay perfectly perfect. Joel is a most gracious host - he will offer terrific conversation and many wonderful suggestions. The staff coordinated trekking, and other adventures for us in Ubud via their local contacts. Hire the Balinese massage therapist to come to the Villa!!! Do yourself a favor and stay home for lunch and dinner at least once - the chef(s) at Villa Vajra prepared the best food we had in Bali. The Villa itself is absolutely stunning - the most beautifully designed place I've ever stayed. From the outdoor bathrooms, stunning gardens, meditation bale, refreshing pool, hot tub, media room. The Villa is built into the side of a river gorge - I woke up to gorgeous sunrises, dense tropical forests and biodiversity unlike I've ever experienced. There is a magic in the air - a richness and beauty that cannot be described in words. To top it all off, I feel like we made friends for life. I will most certainly be back, and give Villa Vajra my highest recommendation.
Wonderful setting, perfect service
Villa Vajra is a lovely compound nestled between a ricefield and a dramatic river valley. It's a good place to relax, swim, and enjoy excellent cuisine prepared by the large and well-trained staff. There is also a unique opportunity to feel the local culture, since the village temple is nearby. All the rooms are meticulously appointed and the staff always wear a smile. There are many options in Bali, but this 4-bedroom villa is one of the best.
Jewel in the middle of the forest
This was my family's first time in Bali and our stay at villa vajra definitely made us want to come back for a second, third , fourth...time. This is without question the best holiday accomodation i have ever stayed in. With its exquisite design, tranquil environment and superb service, villa vajra is the place to be for visitors who wants to rejuvenate and be pampered.
Vashon Island, WA
Astounding views, sounds, food, service ... and culture
Truly amazing hideaway in a part of Bali that will allowed me to immerse in the culture of rice farming, woodcarving, painting, dancing, meeting locals... and at the same time live in luxurious surroundings with truly amazing food, wonderful service, and healthy environment. The gardens are incredible, the staff communicative, and the worst part was I couldn't stay longer!
Spending the Holidays in a Garden of Eden
Villa Vajra is located in the quiet, peaceful surrounds of a local village. The villa captures the natural backdrop of the luscious, moist, green countryside and the uniquely designed gardens with something different around every corner as you meander down into the valley. Living spaces are creatively and practically planned, integrating the beauty of natural building materials and open air living.
We soon acquainted ourselves with the local wildlife; frogs, geckos, butterflies, dragonflies and local village noises, which created the serene ambience of the villa lifestyle. All of the service staff were exceptional in accommodating our needs, wants and desires! The timing of meals, menu design and our daily activity schedule was negotiated with staff to ensure our needs were being met. Each room was serviced twice a day, and we especially liked how the room attendants prepared our rooms ready for a comfortable nights sleep each night. Days were filled with swimming in the infinity pool (come rain or shine!), early morning walks along a picturesque ridge between two valleys, short walks exploring the beautifully created gardens in the villa's valley, reading and relaxing, Skype-ing, listening to our favourite CDs or watching Dvds from the villa's extensive collection and enjoying the still and quiet of paradise!
Experiencing the culture and traditions of the Balinese people was made easier by having access to a driver to make daily trips into Ubud. In addition to this, if we wanted to travel to explore other parts of the island, the assistive house manager Gusti made arrangements with other drivers to ensure we were provided with the best opportunities to experience all that Bali has to offer.
The owners, Joel and Nirgrantha were warm, welcoming and shared their local knowledge of village highlights to explore. We felt sad leaving the Villa Vajra community as the people touched our hearts & made our stay so memorable.
Second time surpasses expectations from first experience 4 years
This property is located in Sebali a short walk or drive from the heart of Ubud. Villa Vajra is a fresh water pearl within an oasis. It is perched on a ravine and encloses its own private waterfall which drops into an infinity pool. Our mornings started with a walk through the rice paddies to watch the sun come up over the lowlands of Bali. This was followed by a dip in the pool as the sun began to break through the canopy. As requested, we were delivered coffee at 0600 everyday by one of the many service staff. We frequently opted for an hour massage which could be done anywhere but we thought the pergola overlooking the gardens to be ideal. Our days were spent in the environs of Ubud with a longer jaunt to east Bali. The staff function at a 5 star plus rating. We felt every need catered to and beyond. During our 10 days we realized that our hardest decision was what to order for our meals. The two chefs are adept at both Indonesian and western fare. While we prefer asian, we loved the authentic bagels for breakfast and we did indulge in some wonderful pizza one night. Gusti, was the manager on our current stay. He lives locally and is filled with local knowledge - from where to shop, where the local celebrations are and where to rent a vehicle. He was ever present and always willing to draw a map of how to get somewhere. He runs a wonderful organization. We really can't think of a negative experience we had. The service has truly advanced since my last visit. This may be due to the fact that the owners live across the rice paddies from Vajra. While we did not see them daily, they often greeted us on our way in or out of the property. They were genuinely interested in our comfort and how we were enjoying Bali. Aside from the service, the other major change since my last visit are the gardens. The owners appear to have a particular interest in creating another Eden in Bali. The gardens below the property allowed for peaceful meditation.
Sophistocated yet comfortable in paradise
Our group of 5 enjoyed 4 nights at Vajra. The accomodations were perfect. Modern, clean and comfortable with high end furniture and fixtures. The kitchen staff is unbelievable. We ate 10 meals and each one was fresh, inventive, perfectly seasoned and delicious! Make sure to ask for traditional Balinese and Thai dishes. The soups are amazing too. We were fortunate to share a cocktail with the owners who are lovely and so accomodating. Hope to be back soon!

Villa Vajra is the best in Ubud!
I researched several villa properties in Ubud to rent for my group of 5. All the people in my travel group are in the design industry and we intially selected this property because of how well designed it is. The photos of the villa are accurate but can't really convey how wonderful the space is and how it integrates with nature. The villa is tastefully designed for Westerners' sensibilities and well maintained. It has a pool, whirlpool and small, but fully equipped, fitness room. The staff is kind, gracious and helpful and the meals that the chef made were not only beautiful but so delicious! The staff arranged treks in the rice fields, massages and even a personal trainer for us. I have been to Ubud on three different occasions and have always stayed in a luxury boutique hotel, but no more. From now on, Villa Vajra will be my choice! In fact, we had such a great time that we are already planning our return.
Beautiful Bali at Vajra Villa
I love Vajra Villa. I've stayed here twice and would never leave if I had the choice. The staff are amazing - caring, considered, thoughtful and attention. The food cooked by the in-house chefs is awesome and the villa itself is amazing. Highly recommended!
Luxury, tranquility and beauty
To speak of the beauty of Villa Vajra is as much about the people who make is special as the location.
Outside of Ubud, the villa is a beautiful 40 minute walk through the rice paddies into town (or you simply ask for a lift in).
Back at the villa you have a sanctuary. Incredible food. Extraordinary locations for massages & treatments (although the masseurs first recommended weren't great). Ready smiles. Always willing to go the extra mile.
The rooms are large and spacious and beautifully appointed. The outdoor bathroom a wonder. The big things and the little things have all been thought of and attended to.
Highly recommend a stay at Villa Vajra.
Just blissful! The villa and the staff made our stay a fabulous
Great location, to feel out of the main ubud centre, but still easy access.
The villa has all you need for a completely relaxing and rejuvinating stay... And if they don't, they will get it for you!!
Food is delicious and the staff are just delightful.
What a get away!
What an escape from a city life. This beautiful, spacious villa of recent construction is luxurious and comfortable. It is situated next to a working rice field. The staff, food, drivers, etc are very efficient and used to dealing various foreign guests' needs. The setting overlooks a verdant landscape which is continually added to. The rooms were very comfortable, good a/c, etc. Food is selected based on the menu, shopped for each day, very fresh and healthy, etc. Drivers will take you as requested including all day sightseeing trips, beaches, etc. There are also plenty of opportunities to walk nearby including into Ubud.
Exotic, serene and private
Villa Vajra is a beautiful, quiet and luxurious gem hidden behind rice paddies and overlooking a lush ravine. Believe the pictures in the website - VV is actually more incredible than those photos.
Among my favorite memories:
- a strong outdoor shower a few steps from our bedroom
- a large, fast-filling tub to soak in.
- having a massage in the meditation pavilion, a quiet sanctuary
- Wifi almost everywhere (yes, yes. I know that's wrong in paradise)
- friendly, helpful and discrete staff (drivers, food, housekeeping)
The best natural and luxurious villa in bali, Ubud
It was a dreem and can't forget the wonderful time we spent there.
My wife and my self and for kids really enjoyed the great services offered by the staff ... it was a kind of 5 stars hotel servies.
the timing was great since the weather was charming especially with the nature view and atmosphere.
Beautiful, welcoming, pleasurable, relaxing and a gastronomic tr
I'm not sure I can accurately describe Villa Vajra in words, but here goes...
Lush beautiful foliage and the trickle of the water streaming toward the rice paddies, followed by a short boardwalk stroll to the villa welcome you on arrival. Step inside the walls of the villa and you are instantly whisked away to paradise. Three private bedrooms, each with their own bath, and a study (with a private outdoor bath)surround the open air living, dinning and pool area...complimented buy lush foliage, fish/lily/lotus pond, and waterfall. The views of the valley beyond are amazing.
I could go on much longer about how beautiful this place is, but the owners and staff are equally amazing. They will cater to your every need--without gouging you like some high end resort. Dinners, and even breakfast, are a gastronomical treat!
Back for more Vajra magic!!
Back for the second year, can not recommend more strongly other than to say "we had to come back" The staff are fantastic and remembered us like old friends , nothing was too much trouble,Gusti, Katuch, Made and Widi were great hosts and we all had a few laughs and felt very relaxed in their company.Great accomodation in a magnificent location.
Many happy memories and hope to see you all again soon
We had a wonderful stay. Thank you to Gusti and team for amazing meals and service. The villa is in such a peaceful setting with all the luxury of a 5 star resort. Make sure you ask about the electric hands healing treatment recommended to us - an out of this world experience! We'll be back.
the place where heaven and earth met
It was the best vacation for our family.
Villa Vajra is the place with full of art and Inspirations.
One of the beautiful experiences in our life.
Beautiful nature surrounded, perfect housing, wonderful food and service... sacred atmosphere. I could feel heaven very close.

Amazing Stay (Agaim!!!)
We had the pleasure of staying at Vajra for a 2nd time. This place is outstanding. It is so quiet and luxurious. The chef is great to work with. We did not eat out once while there. This is not something that we have found on a regular basis in Bali.
The staff were yet again so very friendly and accommodating. While at Vajara is it tough to even leave the villa. It is a short ride into Ubud, yet so far away from the traffic and craziness that can be in Ubud.
I would highly recommend this villa!!
Well we have now stayed at this villa two years in a row. The service is exceptional. The staff seems to know when to leave you alone and then when to be there when you have a question or need something. Setting of the villa is wonderful. You arrive by a very narrow driveway into the courtyard. Walls obscure your views and then there is just this wonderful feeling when you walk across the rice fields to the villa. While staying in the villa your views are of a valley and jungle. You really have to make an effort to see another house or villa. Food is really good. Don't be afraid to talk to the chefs and help plan the menu. Whether it is Indionesian, Thai, Indian or even Italian everything has been really good. We love that you can just arrange for lunch or dinner and there is a minimal fee to have everything prepared just right for you. They do all the grocery shopping.
It is always fun taking showers or baths in the open jungle (wall precludes anyone from seeing you). Sure there are some bugs once in awhile, but the experience is so peaceful. There are some pathways below the villa leading to gardens, a meditation area, work out gym (equipment is outdated, but you don't really go to Ubud to workout). Getting into town is by driver. Not close enough to put the dinner clothes on and walk to town, but getting there is very easy. Driver is always available and extremely flexible with the timing and your schedule. I would say it is a perfect place for 2-4 couples or 2 families with some children. Ours are 9 and 12 years old and they love every minute of being there.

Across the rice paddy, though athe gateway into paradise...
Arriving late at night to the villa with its exquisite facilities is a great and lasting memory. In the morning waking to breakfast beside the pool, with the gentle sounds of water cascading from the fishpond on the upper level further reinforced that we had arrived in paradise. Attentive staff eager to make whatever arrangements where needed from trips into Ubud to tours to whitewater rafting. We ate in most evenings, giving the chef free reign to concoct mouthwatering Balinese dishes that blew us away. Every night different, every night fantastic, every night more than we could eat. After a week it was hard to pack up and leave. Memories linger of a great week of rest and recuperation. Liked best, arriving and being there, liked least packing up and leaving!
Fabulous villa near Ubud
I stayed at Villa Vajra for one week, and simply loved it! Joel and Nirgrantha are warm, gracious hosts / proprietors; the location is terrific (secluded, yet close enough to hop into Ubud). Their chefs prepare delicious and gorgeous meals. In a word: fabulous.
I loved the elegance. Peaceful and beautiful. The attention to detail is wonderful.
A truly remarkable place to stay, with impeccable design, stunning surrounds and delightful staff and owners. No corners have been cut at this place -quite the opposite. Mealtime was a joy and we ate better here than in the restaurants. Daily coconut juice was an added surprise. Meditation room, ambient lighting, outdoor showers, you name it. We felt entirely pampered but in a healthy and non intrusive way. Already looking forward to coming back. Thanks for the hospitality !
Enjoyable stay at villa Vajra.
The pictures on the web show it like it is.
The staff are friendly and non intrusive but helpfully to the extreme.
Honest. We never locked away drinks, tobacco, phones, computers and cameras. Everything was always where you left it.
The chiefs make a tantalising range of dishes. Pick from the villa menu or browse the cookery books. We described a dish and some from the internet The chefs made them flawlessly.
Internet don't expect rocket speed, you are not in a business location. If you have to do a sudden trade option and need to fax or scan urgently see the owners who will go to extremes to make it happen. Playing internet games server speed isn't up to it. But browse the net from the Wi-Fi.
Appreciative of the night time security nice to see the occasional flash of torches on their night time patrols.
Beautiful location ideal for a relaxing holiday an special event. My to be son in law took the opportunity to propose, the staff decorated the pavilion for the occasion. Very romantic.
If you wish to meditate there is a beautiful venue to do so at the front villa or to sit in the shade in the pavilion below the villa.
While I thought I was meditating I am apparently obsessing but I have managed to get 6 months of forward planning done, now to commit to written form.
I never left the villa and if not for me wanting to do a share trade would not even have gone to the front to the office facilities. My wife, daughter and son in law availed themselves of the local spas and markets The driver like the rest of the staff looked after them and helped with translations durring shopping excursions.
Could book a suite at the Hilton but it would not be a patch on this venue and cost a lot more. The suites are easily comparable to the suites in the upper hotels but here you don't have to share the facilities with anyone it is there for your pleasure.
Happy to answer any email queries.
This is a wonderful villa. Much better than what the photos on the web site reveal. The staff is wonderful and the location superb. The villa is beautifully situated on the cusp of a scenic river gorge . There's lots of room to spread out and cool things for kids to explore. The only negative is the villa's proximity to a nearby temple. If you don't like temple noise, make sure to avoid this villa during prayer or ceremony days.
Wonderful villa in the middle of rice paddies in Ubud
When you open the gates to the villa, the view of the rice paddies and a temple in the distance takes your breath away. Once you enter the villa itself, you see the white flowers hanging over the archway connecting the upstairs bedrooms and the lower floor outdoor living area and bedroom as well as the lush green forest down the valley. There are three bedrooms which is ideal for a family and even another couple. Our children enjoyed the pool as well as the walks around Ubud amongst the rice paddies. The staff and owners are all friendly and helpful. Villa Vajra makes one feel relaxed, peaceful and great for recharging your batteries!

Paradise in paradise
We have been fortunate enough to have had many stays at Vajra, and each time the experience has been idyllic. The staff welcome us 'home' as family, and treat our children as if they were their own. The house is magnificent, the setting serene and peaceful, yet close enough to Ubud (a ten-minute drive)to enjoy the 'action'. There is also a magnificent rice paddy walk (downhill!) to central Ubud, which we always enjoy. We have stayed in many villas in Bali but, without question, always return to Vajra.
We've just returned from a two week trip to Bali, 10 of those days spent in Seminyak. Our arrival at the Villa Vajra was like a cool compress after the bustle and noise of the south. The staff - Gusti, "Chef", Ketut, Saba, Widi and those I neglect to mention are all fabulous and made us feel totally welcome and relaxed. I couldn't recommend the Villa highly enough and cannot wait to return. Many thanks.
Instant stress relief
The Vajra was truely a highlight of our Bali stay, visiting Bali many times now and staying at a variety of villas we have become a custom to the good quality and services supplied, however the Vajra is indeed another experience to be welcomed,if your looking for a touch of paradise this is it, a real stress release situated in tranquil rice fields, looking out over the wonderful natural vista of the passing river below.Very comfortable with all mod cons but still having a strong Bali feel. The walk through the local village in the morning and getting a glimpse of local life is truely wonderful. As for the staff, they were great nothing was too much trouble,Gusti,Saba,Ketut,Widi,Made all great people and great cooks,Ketut makes the best Nasi Goreng i have tasted!! all in house meals were excellent useing fresh local produce. We will be returning and would recommend as great unwind after the hustle and bustle of the commercial districts of Seminyak Legian etc

Fantastic villa, staff, and hosts
This is about as paradise-y as you can get. If you're considering a stay at the Villa Vajra, do it! We were two couples and had plenty of room, great bedrooms, and an amazing indoor-outdoor living space. The staff and cooks are fantastic and Joel and Nirgrantha will make you feel right at home and can help organize trips out from the Vajra. The best place we stayed in a month of traveling Southeast asia.
Excellent for peace/relaxation but also near fun activities.
Great spot for relaxation. Well located for both Ubud and surrounding area activities. Staff were exceptional and went way out of their way to help all the time. Food was amazing with a couple of very special standout meals by suggestion of the chef and by request. Read more

Many thanks for the kind review. We look forward to your return.

Perfection in Paradise
We expected Bali to dazzle our senses and Villa Vajra was extraordinary.
We arrived at the main entrance of the property to see a stunning Balinese home situated among lush rice paddies. Entering the main door flower petals were strewn along the walkway to the master suite.
We have never been in a house were every detail has been thought out to perfection with the aim of total comfort. Each bedroom is bedroom is beautiful, the house is splendid, open to the vista, sun, and soft air.
The staff is exceptional, friendly and gracious, their goal, well met, is to cater to one's every need and wish. We had many meals at the Villa, local in nature and all delicious.
It was hard to tear ourselves away from the pool, or from private massages given outside under a thatched roof surrounded by trees and flowers. it was the best vacation we have ever had.
We can't wait to return.
Fantastic peaceful sanctuary!
This is a wonderful and peaceful villa with generous accommodations. Very friendly and attentive staff. An excellent chef. Perfect for a quiet getaway.
Tranquil Oasis - we loved it!
This was our first trip to Bali and after a few active days on the beach we loved to walk over the rice fields to "our tranquil oasis", the kids were in the pool all day and we mediated in the pavilion looking over the lush green of the forest. I was a bit worried to have "staff" because we wanted to be alone, but we never felt like they were there and yet they were always there when we needed them. Unfortunately we had to cut our trip short, but we will be back!
Villa Vajra: Perfect in Every Way
Everything was perfect:
the luxurious villa - its architecture, furnishings, and art works;
the environment - a tropical jungle on one side with magnificent trees and flowers and peaceful rice fields on the other, a small village and village temple only a few steps away;
two chefs, exciting meals on demand and ready service;
a large staff, always gracious, helpful and capable;
The villa offers a peaceful retreat but is within easy reach of the town of Ubud with its temples, arts, shopping, and varied restaurants.
Dream location in the middle of the padi fields
A very secluded retreat as if in Paradise between the river valley and the padi fields. Stunning villa with very attentive staff, great cook. The rooms were very comfortable and it was hard to leave.
Only small grouse was the fact that the pool was not heated and we did find it cold. This being said, we use the pool a lot during our stay, so that should not stop you.
We are planning to go back for birthdays and anniversary celebrations and would have no qualm recommending this villa to anyone who intend to stay in Ubud.
The Best of Balinese Villa living!
This was our second stay at Villa Vajra. It was like returning to a very special home. Having had over 20 trips to Bali and having stayed at many of the best properties, we would rate Villa Vajra as providing us with the best Balinese luxury villa experience.
The villa is set in the local village of Sebali which gave us a view of real Balinese life. On our morning strolls we were always made to feel welcome by our Balinese "neighbors" with warm smiles and friendly greetings. It is also possible to walk to Ubud from Vajra, past small temples, art shops and the occasional "warung" where we would stop for a cold drink to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The road continues to the ancient bukit trail to Ubud which opens up sensational and dramatic views of the river valleys.
Villa Vajra is approached by a walk way right across beautiful rice sawas. As you enter the Villa itself, you are greeted by a standing Buddha in a stunning lotus flower pond, with a "floating walkway" to the Master Suite. We were continuously taken aback by the beauty of the setting. The Villa sits a top the Wos river gorge, and provides breath taking views of the verdant green jungle and the botanical gardens below.
The main dining/living area is open with a soaring roof of ulang - ulang grass, a Bose sound system, and is comfortably furnished. Refreshing cool breezes wash through this area and the pool is there for quick dip. There is a large deck we used for Yoga in the mornings again with a tranquil view of the river valley.
We were always surprised by the diversity and quality of the cuisine prepared with pride daily by the two on-site Chefs. We enjoyed the best of Balinese cuisine as well as amazing dishes from asia and Europe.
The staff are sensational, friendly, helpful and respectful of your needs and privacy. Villa Manager Gusti is exceptional. We have already booked for next year, and can't wait to return to our Balinese home away from home.
Tranquility, Location and Design perfection
From the welcome at the gates, the entrance feeling like hanging gardens of Eden, walk over the lovely rice field and then entering to the villa which was a design perfection was just anything one could have ever hoped for. We entered into a pond with lovely pools filled with beautiful fish, floating steps took us to lovely designed rooms, bedroom, relax area and then down the steps to the main dining/living/pool area which was just amazing. View over jungle scenery falling down to the river. The open dining/living room just exquisite. All the bedrooms and bathrooms from out of a book of Bali magic. We've been to Bali before and also then to Ubud, and this was the place in Ubud that we had hoped had everything we would have wished for in the beautiful Ubud scenery, and if for sure fulfilled all of our wishes. We had massage in the lovely massage parlor a few steps further down from the main dining/terrace area and all the way down to the river was like a garden of eden, and you could so enjoy your relaxing moment. Our son of 20 months loved spending time in the children's pool and we for sure loved spending time in the Buddah/waterfall grownup pool. And then we come to the personnel. Lovely, welcoming, warm, great with anything we wished for to be made in the kitchen. Arts and crafts was only a walk away if you wanted to indulge in that, which we did. What a beautiful place, what a lovely experience. We highly recommend it!!!
Villa Vjara was our last stop on our first trip to Bali. What an amazing way to end the trip. The Villa is stunning. We were so comfortable and taken care of, that we rarely left. Many of the Villas provide a cook. We found the food to be adequate at most of them. Vjara was a huge surprise. The chef made dishes that we picked. We had all of our meals at the Villa in the their beautiful setting.
Simply did not want to leave, and can't wait to come back.

Magical oasis in Ubud !
Holidaying with extended family ,including teenagers is not always easy. Vila vajra set in beautiful rice paddys and overlooking the jungle was exactly what we needed.. room for everyone . incredibly attentive staff, beautifully maintained villa and grounds set in the spiritual surrounds of Ubud. We would love to return !
Need More Stars
5 stars just isn't enough to rate Villa Vajra. Joel and Nirgrantha are consummate hosts and their staff went out of their way to help with absolutely anything they could. The Balinese are generally very kind and giving people, but Gusti and his staff, Madé, Ketut, Widi and Saba take the cake. Totally charming people, while remaining totally professional. The rooms were spotlessly cleaned every day, and the food was consistently delish.
We found the view over the valley to be breathtaking, whether it was bright and sunny or pouring rain. We wished we had brought the kids, because the pool and the opportunities for hiking are tremendous.

Hospitality was traditionally Balinese = wonderful. Service = impeccable. Meals were prepared on site and made to order, both western and Balinese fare is available and was incredible. The grounds are very relaxing. The on-site waterfall mixes with the sounds of the canyon to rock you into a state of tranquility. The rooms are all well appointed. It is a short walk to Ubud. I can not think of any small negative experience during my stay. I left at peace and relaxed.
sumptuous beauty and kindness
The hosts and staff at Villa Vajra are all wonderful people with big hearts. Their love of Bali and its culture is palpable. There is an attentiveness to detail regarding personal comfort, the design, art, food, and overall well being of the guests that surpasses expectations, even when considering a deluxe villa like this. The staff are each delightful individuals who sincerely wish to provide a top notch experience, and this is exactly what is delivered. Both of the chefs, Made and Ketut, went out of their way to offer beautifully presented and outstandingly delicious healthy food. They were easily able to accommodate my gluten and dairy free needs without sacrificing anything in the results. I long for those treats as I write about them!
The villa location is a short distance from Ubud, an inexpensive taxi ride, or beautiful walk. Joel arranged for us to have massages by a superb local practitioner, and Gusti, the villa manager was always available to facilitate our planning. Beautiful things happen to people in Bali, and having Villa Vajra as a base is a magnificent blessing to all that unfolds. This was a most memorable vacation!
A rest cure in a tropical villa
My Mother and I stay at Villa Vajra for 5 memorable nights and days.
The villa is very confidential, hidden between the rice fields and the Balinese Jungle and yet close enough to Ubud, that one can reach walking along a verdant magical trail where young Balinese like to flirt.
The level of service and the harmonious beauty of the Villa was much above what we had imagined.
Joel is a very dedicated host. The rooms are comfortable and elegantly designed.
The cooks were fantastic and taught us local recepies. We enjoyed massages in the patio of the rich garden facing the jungle.
A memorable time.
I cannot speak highly enough of our experience at villa Vajra. The location, decor, and layout were all stunning and memorable but most of all it was the staff and the owners who most impressed us. All were gracious, thoughtful, and kind. Anyone thinking about staying here should not hesitate. And don't be dissuaded by the fact that it is not in the very center of Ubud. It is a short drive or a lovely walk along a path through rice fields and along a scenic ridge into town. In fact, that walk left us with some of our most memorable impressions of Bali. Sometimes the photos on a web site overpromise and unnecessarily raise expectations but not in this case. The one exception, of course, is that the photos don't capture the spirit and generosity of those who work and live at Villa Vajra.

Bliss and Beauty in Tranquil , Lush Setting
Villa Vajra is a dream spot. The combo of dramatic jungle beauty and peaceful abode is perfect. The staff are lovely. They are there when you need them; their presence is non- intrusive and very helpful.
We were able to have a sacred retreat when we wanted, and if we wanted to see Ubud and surrounds all was close by.
The food was fresh and wonderful.
This place was blissfully quiet which was not always the case in Ubud area. The pool is crystal clean and simply gorgeous.
It is clear that alot of care goes into providing paradise for guests.
Resting in the cocoon of Bliss
From the moment I arrived in Bali, I was whisked around in a cocoon of bliss. I was able to relax and be taken care of for my every need and wish.
It was beatuiful to relax in solitude and to have a full staff that attended to my needs, from coffee early (very early) in the morning, to the lovely feasts, set out in the evening.
I also enjoyed the clean rooms, beutiful outdoor bathrooms and small private pool to lounge by. The facilities and their condition were really top notch. They ascetic was beautiful, all of which contributed to a very relaxing and blissful trip.
Villa Vajra is a treat and the managers are great and willing to make your stay extra meaningful and comfortable, at least they did for me.
