Villa Vajra is a lovely compound nestled between a ricefield and a dramatic river valley. It's a good place to relax, swim, and enjoy excellent cuisine prepared by the large and well-trained staff. There is also a unique opportunity to feel the local culture, since the village temple is nearby. All the rooms are meticulously appointed and the staff always wear a smile. There are many options in Bali, but this 4-bedroom villa is one of the best.

Truly amazing hideaway in a part of Bali that will allowed me to immerse in the culture of rice farming, woodcarving, painting, dancing, meeting locals... and at the same time live in luxurious surroundings with truly amazing food, wonderful service, and healthy environment. The gardens are incredible, the staff communicative, and the worst part was I couldn't stay longer!

Villa Vajra is located in the quiet, peaceful surrounds of a local village. The villa captures the natural backdrop of the luscious, moist, green countryside and the uniquely designed gardens with something different around every corner as you meander down into the valley. Living spaces are creatively and practically planned, integrating the beauty of natural building materials and open air living.
We soon acquainted ourselves with the local wildlife; frogs, geckos, butterflies, dragonflies and local village noises, which created the serene ambience of the villa lifestyle. All of the service staff were exceptional in accommodating our needs, wants and desires! The timing of meals, menu design and our daily activity schedule was negotiated with staff to ensure our needs were being met. Each room was serviced twice a day, and we especially liked how the room attendants prepared our rooms ready for a comfortable nights sleep each night. Days were filled with swimming in the infinity pool (come rain or shine!), early morning walks along a picturesque ridge between two valleys, short walks exploring the beautifully created gardens in the villa's valley, reading and relaxing, Skype-ing, listening to our favourite CDs or watching Dvds from the villa's extensive collection and enjoying the still and quiet of paradise!
Experiencing the culture and traditions of the Balinese people was made easier by having access to a driver to make daily trips into Ubud. In addition to this, if we wanted to travel to explore other parts of the island, the assistive house manager Gusti made arrangements with other drivers to ensure we were provided with the best opportunities to experience all that Bali has to offer.
The owners, Joel and Nirgrantha were warm, welcoming and shared their local knowledge of village highlights to explore. We felt sad leaving the Villa Vajra community as the people touched our hearts & made our stay so memorable.

From arriving at the Villa on a boardwalk through the rice fields, to an emotional farewell with promises to return, our stay was special in so many ways. The staff were so caring and discreet in their daily routines of taking care of our every need - whether it was arranging massages, chaufferred trips in and out of Ubud for the Writers Festival, arranging in house massages. Madi and Kucuk in the kitchen made it hard to go out for dinner - beautiful meals consumed in the cathedral stye pavillion - very pleasing architecture offers very comfortable accommodation. I just cannot wait to go back and visit "Our New Bali Family"

This property is located in Sebali a short walk or drive from the heart of Ubud. Villa Vajra is a fresh water pearl within an oasis. It is perched on a ravine and encloses its own private waterfall which drops into an infinity pool. Our mornings started with a walk through the rice paddies to watch the sun come up over the lowlands of Bali. This was followed by a dip in the pool as the sun began to break through the canopy. As requested, we were delivered coffee at 0600 everyday by one of the many service staff. We frequently opted for an hour massage which could be done anywhere but we thought the pergola overlooking the gardens to be ideal. Our days were spent in the environs of Ubud with a longer jaunt to east Bali. The staff function at a 5 star plus rating. We felt every need catered to and beyond. During our 10 days we realized that our hardest decision was what to order for our meals. The two chefs are adept at both Indonesian and western fare. While we prefer asian, we loved the authentic bagels for breakfast and we did indulge in some wonderful pizza one night. Gusti, was the manager on our current stay. He lives locally and is filled with local knowledge - from where to shop, where the local celebrations are and where to rent a vehicle. He was ever present and always willing to draw a map of how to get somewhere. He runs a wonderful organization. We really can't think of a negative experience we had. The service has truly advanced since my last visit. This may be due to the fact that the owners live across the rice paddies from Vajra. While we did not see them daily, they often greeted us on our way in or out of the property. They were genuinely interested in our comfort and how we were enjoying Bali. Aside from the service, the other major change since my last visit are the gardens. The owners appear to have a particular interest in creating another Eden in Bali. The gardens below the property allowed for peaceful meditation.

Our group of 5 enjoyed 4 nights at Vajra. The accomodations were perfect. Modern, clean and comfortable with high end furniture and fixtures. The kitchen staff is unbelievable. We ate 10 meals and each one was fresh, inventive, perfectly seasoned and delicious! Make sure to ask for traditional Balinese and Thai dishes. The soups are amazing too. We were fortunate to share a cocktail with the owners who are lovely and so accomodating. Hope to be back soon!

I researched several villa properties in Ubud to rent for my group of 5. All the people in my travel group are in the design industry and we intially selected this property because of how well designed it is. The photos of the villa are accurate but can't really convey how wonderful the space is and how it integrates with nature. The villa is tastefully designed for Westerners' sensibilities and well maintained. It has a pool, whirlpool and small, but fully equipped, fitness room. The staff is kind, gracious and helpful and the meals that the chef made were not only beautiful but so delicious! The staff arranged treks in the rice fields, massages and even a personal trainer for us. I have been to Ubud on three different occasions and have always stayed in a luxury boutique hotel, but no more. From now on, Villa Vajra will be my choice! In fact, we had such a great time that we are already planning our return.

To speak of the beauty of Villa Vajra is as much about the people who make is special as the location.
Outside of Ubud, the villa is a beautiful 40 minute walk through the rice paddies into town (or you simply ask for a lift in).
Back at the villa you have a sanctuary. Incredible food. Extraordinary locations for massages & treatments (although the masseurs first recommended weren't great). Ready smiles. Always willing to go the extra mile.
The rooms are large and spacious and beautifully appointed. The outdoor bathroom a wonder. The big things and the little things have all been thought of and attended to.
Highly recommend a stay at Villa Vajra. -

What an escape from a city life. This beautiful, spacious villa of recent construction is luxurious and comfortable. It is situated next to a working rice field. The staff, food, drivers, etc are very efficient and used to dealing various foreign guests' needs. The setting overlooks a verdant landscape which is continually added to. The rooms were very comfortable, good a/c, etc. Food is selected based on the menu, shopped for each day, very fresh and healthy, etc. Drivers will take you as requested including all day sightseeing trips, beaches, etc. There are also plenty of opportunities to walk nearby including into Ubud.

Villa Vajra is a beautiful, quiet and luxurious gem hidden behind rice paddies and overlooking a lush ravine. Believe the pictures in the website - VV is actually more incredible than those photos.
Among my favorite memories:
- a strong outdoor shower a few steps from our bedroom
- a large, fast-filling tub to soak in.
- having a massage in the meditation pavilion, a quiet sanctuary
- Wifi almost everywhere (yes, yes. I know that's wrong in paradise)
- friendly, helpful and discrete staff (drivers, food, housekeeping) -

I'm not sure I can accurately describe Villa Vajra in words, but here goes...
Lush beautiful foliage and the trickle of the water streaming toward the rice paddies, followed by a short boardwalk stroll to the villa welcome you on arrival. Step inside the walls of the villa and you are instantly whisked away to paradise. Three private bedrooms, each with their own bath, and a study (with a private outdoor bath)surround the open air living, dinning and pool area...complimented buy lush foliage, fish/lily/lotus pond, and waterfall. The views of the valley beyond are amazing.
I could go on much longer about how beautiful this place is, but the owners and staff are equally amazing. They will cater to your every need--without gouging you like some high end resort. Dinners, and even breakfast, are a gastronomical treat! -

I stayed in the Villa with 4 friends for a few days before we met up with our families in Legian. The Villa is beautiful and the staff make it even more wonderful. We felt totally at home and enjoyed relaxing, swimming and eating the fantastic food cooked each night by the chefs (we decided to not go into Ubud at night to eat as the food was great and it was lovely just chilling by the pool in the evening). I think it would be too quiet for my children (teenagers) but for couples/friends it is perfect. The gardens and rice paddies give a fantastic outlook. We met the owners and they were very warm and welcoming.

We had the pleasure of staying at Vajra for a 2nd time. This place is outstanding. It is so quiet and luxurious. The chef is great to work with. We did not eat out once while there. This is not something that we have found on a regular basis in Bali.
The staff were yet again so very friendly and accommodating. While at Vajara is it tough to even leave the villa. It is a short ride into Ubud, yet so far away from the traffic and craziness that can be in Ubud.
I would highly recommend this villa!! -

Well we have now stayed at this villa two years in a row. The service is exceptional. The staff seems to know when to leave you alone and then when to be there when you have a question or need something. Setting of the villa is wonderful. You arrive by a very narrow driveway into the courtyard. Walls obscure your views and then there is just this wonderful feeling when you walk across the rice fields to the villa. While staying in the villa your views are of a valley and jungle. You really have to make an effort to see another house or villa. Food is really good. Don't be afraid to talk to the chefs and help plan the menu. Whether it is Indionesian, Thai, Indian or even Italian everything has been really good. We love that you can just arrange for lunch or dinner and there is a minimal fee to have everything prepared just right for you. They do all the grocery shopping.
It is always fun taking showers or baths in the open jungle (wall precludes anyone from seeing you). Sure there are some bugs once in awhile, but the experience is so peaceful. There are some pathways below the villa leading to gardens, a meditation area, work out gym (equipment is outdated, but you don't really go to Ubud to workout). Getting into town is by driver. Not close enough to put the dinner clothes on and walk to town, but getting there is very easy. Driver is always available and extremely flexible with the timing and your schedule. I would say it is a perfect place for 2-4 couples or 2 families with some children. Ours are 9 and 12 years old and they love every minute of being there. -

Arriving late at night to the villa with its exquisite facilities is a great and lasting memory. In the morning waking to breakfast beside the pool, with the gentle sounds of water cascading from the fishpond on the upper level further reinforced that we had arrived in paradise. Attentive staff eager to make whatever arrangements where needed from trips into Ubud to tours to whitewater rafting. We ate in most evenings, giving the chef free reign to concoct mouthwatering Balinese dishes that blew us away. Every night different, every night fantastic, every night more than we could eat. After a week it was hard to pack up and leave. Memories linger of a great week of rest and recuperation. Liked best, arriving and being there, liked least packing up and leaving!

Enjoyable stay at villa Vajra.
The pictures on the web show it like it is.
The staff are friendly and non intrusive but helpfully to the extreme.
Honest. We never locked away drinks, tobacco, phones, computers and cameras. Everything was always where you left it.
The chiefs make a tantalising range of dishes. Pick from the villa menu or browse the cookery books. We described a dish and some from the internet The chefs made them flawlessly.
Internet don't expect rocket speed, you are not in a business location. If you have to do a sudden trade option and need to fax or scan urgently see the owners who will go to extremes to make it happen. Playing internet games server speed isn't up to it. But browse the net from the Wi-Fi.
Appreciative of the night time security nice to see the occasional flash of torches on their night time patrols.
Beautiful location ideal for a relaxing holiday an special event. My to be son in law took the opportunity to propose, the staff decorated the pavilion for the occasion. Very romantic.
If you wish to meditate there is a beautiful venue to do so at the front villa or to sit in the shade in the pavilion below the villa.
While I thought I was meditating I am apparently obsessing but I have managed to get 6 months of forward planning done, now to commit to written form.
I never left the villa and if not for me wanting to do a share trade would not even have gone to the front to the office facilities. My wife, daughter and son in law availed themselves of the local spas and markets The driver like the rest of the staff looked after them and helped with translations durring shopping excursions.
Could book a suite at the Hilton but it would not be a patch on this venue and cost a lot more. The suites are easily comparable to the suites in the upper hotels but here you don't have to share the facilities with anyone it is there for your pleasure.
Happy to answer any email queries.

This is a wonderful villa. Much better than what the photos on the web site reveal. The staff is wonderful and the location superb. The villa is beautifully situated on the cusp of a scenic river gorge . There's lots of room to spread out and cool things for kids to explore. The only negative is the villa's proximity to a nearby temple. If you don't like temple noise, make sure to avoid this villa during prayer or ceremony days.

When you open the gates to the villa, the view of the rice paddies and a temple in the distance takes your breath away. Once you enter the villa itself, you see the white flowers hanging over the archway connecting the upstairs bedrooms and the lower floor outdoor living area and bedroom as well as the lush green forest down the valley. There are three bedrooms which is ideal for a family and even another couple. Our children enjoyed the pool as well as the walks around Ubud amongst the rice paddies. We have been fortunate enough to have had many stays at Vajra, and each time the experience has been idyllic. The staff welcome us 'home' as family, and treat our children as if they were their own. The house is magnificent, the setting serene and peaceful, yet close enough to Ubud (a ten-minute drive)to enjoy the 'action'. There is also a magnificent rice paddy walk (downhill!) to central Ubud, which we always enjoy. We have stayed in many villas in Bali but, without question, always return to Vajra.

We expected Bali to dazzle our senses and Villa Vajra was extraordinary.
We arrived at the main entrance of the property to see a stunning Balinese home situated among lush rice paddies. Entering the main door flower petals were strewn along the walkway to the master suite.
We have never been in a house were every detail has been thought out to perfection with the aim of total comfort. Each bedroom is bedroom is beautiful, the house is splendid, open to the vista, sun, and soft air.
The staff is exceptional, friendly and gracious, their goal, well met, is to cater to one's every need and wish. We had many meals at the Villa, local in nature and all delicious.
It was hard to tear ourselves away from the pool, or from private massages given outside under a thatched roof surrounded by trees and flowers. it was the best vacation we have ever had.

SingaporeDream location in the middle of the padi fields
Left on 05/01/2011 for a stay in September 2010
A very secluded retreat as if in Paradise between the river valley and the padi fields. Stunning villa with very attentive staff, great cook. The rooms were very comfortable and it was hard to leave.
Only small grouse was the fact that the pool was not heated and we did find it cold. This being said, we use the pool a lot during our stay, so that should not stop you.
We are planning to go back for birthdays and anniversary celebrations and would have no qualm recommending this villa to anyone who intend to stay in Ubud.

MelbourneThe Best of Balinese Villa living!
Left on 05/01/2011 for a stay in April 2011
This was our second stay at Villa Vajra. It was like returning to a very special home. Having had over 20 trips to Bali and having stayed at many of the best properties, we would rate Villa Vajra as providing us with the best Balinese luxury villa experience.
The villa is set in the local village of Sebali which gave us a view of real Balinese life. On our morning strolls we were always made to feel welcome by our Balinese "neighbors" with warm smiles and friendly greetings. It is also possible to walk to Ubud from Vajra, past small temples, art shops and the occasional "warung" where we would stop for a cold drink to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The road continues to the ancient bukit trail to Ubud which opens up sensational and dramatic views of the river valleys.
Villa Vajra is approached by a walk way right across beautiful rice sawas. As you enter the Villa itself, you are greeted by a standing Buddha in a stunning lotus flower pond, with a "floating walkway" to the Master Suite. We were continuously taken aback by the beauty of the setting. The Villa sits a top the Wos river gorge, and provides breath taking views of the verdant green jungle and the botanical gardens below.
The main dining/living area is open with a soaring roof of ulang - ulang grass, a Bose sound system, and is comfortably furnished. Refreshing cool breezes wash through this area and the pool is there for quick dip. There is a large deck we used for Yoga in the mornings again with a tranquil view of the river valley.
We were always surprised by the diversity and quality of the cuisine prepared with pride daily by the two on-site Chefs. We enjoyed the best of Balinese cuisine as well as amazing dishes from asia and Europe.
The staff are sensational, friendly, helpful and respectful of your needs and privacy. Villa Manager Gusti is exceptional. We have already booked for next year, and can't wait to return to our Balinese home away from home. -

From the welcome at the gates, the entrance feeling like hanging gardens of Eden, walk over the lovely rice field and then entering to the villa which was a design perfection was just anything one could have ever hoped for. We entered into a pond with lovely pools filled with beautiful fish, floating steps took us to lovely designed rooms, bedroom, relax area and then down the steps to the main dining/living/pool area which was just amazing. View over jungle scenery falling down to the river. The open dining/living room just exquisite. All the bedrooms and bathrooms from out of a book of Bali magic. We've been to Bali before and also then to Ubud, and this was the place in Ubud that we had hoped had everything we would have wished for in the beautiful Ubud scenery, and if for sure fulfilled all of our wishes. We had massage in the lovely massage parlor a few steps further down from the main dining/terrace area and all the way down to the river was like a garden of eden, and you could so enjoy your relaxing moment. Our son of 20 months loved spending time in the children's pool and we for sure loved spending time in the Buddah/waterfall grownup pool. And then we come to the personnel. Lovely, welcoming, warm, great with anything we wished for to be made in the kitchen. Arts and crafts was only a walk away if you wanted to indulge in that, which we did. What a beautiful place, what a lovely experience. We highly recommend it!!!

Villa Vjara was our last stop on our first trip to Bali. What an amazing way to end the trip. The Villa is stunning. We were so comfortable and taken care of, that we rarely left. Many of the Villas provide a cook. We found the food to be adequate at most of them. Vjara was a huge surprise. The chef made dishes that we picked. We had all of our meals at the Villa in the their beautiful setting.
Simply did not want to leave, and can't wait to come back. -

5 stars just isn't enough to rate Villa Vajra. Joel and Nirgrantha are consummate hosts and their staff went out of their way to help with absolutely anything they could. The Balinese are generally very kind and giving people, but Gusti and his staff, Madé, Ketut, Widi and Saba take the cake. Totally charming people, while remaining totally professional. The rooms were spotlessly cleaned every day, and the food was consistently delish.
We found the view over the valley to be breathtaking, whether it was bright and sunny or pouring rain. We wished we had brought the kids, because the pool and the opportunities for hiking are tremendous.

Hospitality was traditionally Balinese = wonderful. Service = impeccable. Meals were prepared on site and made to order, both western and Balinese fare is available and was incredible. The grounds are very relaxing. The on-site waterfall mixes with the sounds of the canyon to rock you into a state of tranquility. The rooms are all well appointed. It is a short walk to Ubud. I can not think of any small negative experience during my stay. I left at peace and relaxed.

The hosts and staff at Villa Vajra are all wonderful people with big hearts. Their love of Bali and its culture is palpable. There is an attentiveness to detail regarding personal comfort, the design, art, food, and overall well being of the guests that surpasses expectations, even when considering a deluxe villa like this. The staff are each delightful individuals who sincerely wish to provide a top notch experience, and this is exactly what is delivered. Both of the chefs, Made and Ketut, went out of their way to offer beautifully presented and outstandingly delicious healthy food. They were easily able to accommodate my gluten and dairy free needs without sacrificing anything in the results. I long for those treats as I write about them!
The villa location is a short distance from Ubud, an inexpensive taxi ride, or beautiful walk. Joel arranged for us to have massages by a superb local practitioner, and Gusti, the villa manager was always available to facilitate our planning. Beautiful things happen to people in Bali, and having Villa Vajra as a base is a magnificent blessing to all that unfolds. This was a most memorable vacation!

Hello,
My Mother and I stay at Villa Vajra for 5 memorable nights and days.
The villa is very confidential, hidden between the rice fields and the Balinese Jungle and yet close enough to Ubud, that one can reach walking along a verdant magical trail where young Balinese like to flirt.
The level of service and the harmonious beauty of the Villa was much above what we had imagined.
Joel is a very dedicated host. The rooms are comfortable and elegantly designed.
The cooks were fantastic and taught us local recepies. We enjoyed massages in the patio of the rich garden facing the jungle.
A memorable time. -

I cannot speak highly enough of our experience at villa Vajra. The location, decor, and layout were all stunning and memorable but most of all it was the staff and the owners who most impressed us. All were gracious, thoughtful, and kind. Anyone thinking about staying here should not hesitate. And don't be dissuaded by the fact that it is not in the very center of Ubud. It is a short drive or a lovely walk along a path through rice fields and along a scenic ridge into town. In fact, that walk left us with some of our most memorable impressions of Bali. Sometimes the photos on a web site overpromise and unnecessarily raise expectations but not in this case. The one exception, of course, is that the photos don't capture the spirit and generosity of those who work and live at Villa Vajra.

Villa Vajra is a dream spot. The combo of dramatic jungle beauty and peaceful abode is perfect. The staff are lovely. They are there when you need them; their presence is non- intrusive and very helpful.
We were able to have a sacred retreat when we wanted, and if we wanted to see Ubud and surrounds all was close by.
The food was fresh and wonderful.
This place was blissfully quiet which was not always the case in Ubud area. The pool is crystal clean and simply gorgeous.
It is clear that alot of care goes into providing paradise for guests. -

Left on 04/28/2011 for a stay in May 2010
From the moment I arrived in Bali, I was whisked around in a cocoon of bliss. I was able to relax and be taken care of for my every need and wish.
It was beatuiful to relax in solitude and to have a full staff that attended to my needs, from coffee early (very early) in the morning, to the lovely feasts, set out in the evening.
I also enjoyed the clean rooms, beutiful outdoor bathrooms and small private pool to lounge by. The facilities and their condition were really top notch. They ascetic was beautiful, all of which contributed to a very relaxing and blissful trip.
Villa Vajra is a treat and the managers are great and willing to make your stay extra meaningful and comfortable, at least they did for me.
