Magical Home and Plush Garden was Superb!!

Left on 04/04/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Our family of 5 stayed at the villa and it was very comfortable and the setting was magical. We had 3 teenagers with us and the layout worked out beautifully. We were very looked after by Made and the breakfast was delicious. Still in awe that Made put our luggage on her head to walk us through rice fields. Just steps away is a restaurant Yellow Flower that we highly recommend if you stay here. Barbara was very helpful in pointing us in the right direction for activities and she always answered my questions very quickly. We loved it here and hope to go back some day!!???

We rented both the main house and the separate bungalow. Nice for 6 persons and the privacy is guaranteed. The place is well kept, good furniture, beautiful garden, small but nice pool.
The maid was perfect and made our stay a success.
The location is good, but difficult to reach for older peoples or guests with a lot of luggage.

A wonderful villa - and even better hosts!

Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in March 2013

We had a great stay here during our 4 days at Ubud. We stayed in the private bungalow, which was separate from the main villa house and felt like our own private cabin in the middle of a beautiful garden. While the bungalow is a separate building and thus affords good privacy, it is not totally cut off from the rest of the compound. The owners, Barbara and Henry, and staff made us feel right at home during our stay, and we loved the well-maintained grounds and great location. They were very helpful with tips and suggestions on things to do and places to eat in Ubud, and helped make us feel like family or old friends during our stay.

As part of our stay coincided with the Balinese holiday of Nyepi, or Day of Silence, it meant that we had to stay inside the villa compound the entire day. This was no problem at all, as we had a whole day to enjoy the extremely refreshing pool (very welcome after a hot day) and garden. Barbara and Henry opened their house to us, lent us plenty of Dvds to watch, and even cooked lunch and dinner for us! (we chipped in to help cover expenses, of course.) They were wonderfully hospitable during our entire stay and even gave us a ride into town the night before Nyepi to watch the Ogeh-Ogeh parade throughout downtown Ubud.

The rest of the week was great as well - as we were out most of the days sightseeing and shopping, and this was a great place to come back to; to either take a dip in the pool, or take a nice relaxing shower in the private outside shower. The breakfasts were top-notch, with fresh fruit and eggs alongside delicious homemade bread accompanied by homemade jams and preserves. Fantastic! Our only regret was that we weren't able to stay for longer!

I can't recommend this place highly enough, and we are already looking forward to our next chance to visit Ubud and stay again at Villa Semu Suka.

      Wonderful , Simply wonderful

Left on 03/05/2013 for a stay in February 2013

We spent 4-5 days in the Hibiscus suite, which is the upper level of the main villa. It turned out to be the best 5 days of our month in Bali.
When people say that Henry and Barbara treat you like family, they really do.
You feel like friends, because you are treated like friends.
We fell in love with Pia the main cook and housekeeper. A true Balinese sweetheart.
Please read the other reviews because what everyone else says is so very true and not exaggerated at all.
I am a little hesitant to write a review, because this place might become so popular that it might not be available the next time I visit- it's that nice!!
      A true hidden gem.
      Thank You, Henry and Barbara.

      Paradise in Bali!

Left on 02/28/2013 for a stay in January 2013

What an incredible house! Pictures did it no justice, it was like out of a fairy tale! The pool was a welcome relief from the heat every morning and afternoon. Made made us fantastic breakfasts every morning and smoothies and treats halfway through the day. The house felt very private and had incredible views from all sides of the house. The supermarket is a short 5 minute walk from the house and there are some great spas just 5-10 minutes away as well. We got massages every day for less than $10 each time. I've never had such a relaxing vacation! There is some fabulous beaches on the coast (about 30-45 min drive), but we really loved Blue Lagoon which was about a 40 min drive north. You can rent bikes or motorbikes just up the street, and the house recommended a driver named Blue that was able to plan lots of excursions for us at a great price! We went rafting, rode bikes through rice fields, went to the Luwak coffee plantation, snorkeled, and more. I have already recommended this house to friends and family alike.

      Wonderful

Left on 01/12/2013 for a stay in December 2012

We loved our stay at the Villa Semua Suka. Be prepared for the walk to the villa. We arrived near dark and the stairs and path to the villa made me wonder if I had made a mistake. It turned out to be the opposite. In the light of day the pathway was beautiful. There were small beautiful offerings, green rice fields, flowers, chickens, locals and more! It was great. We enjoyed being away from the main town. We found out that many of the local restaurants would deliver. We preferred to eat in the comfort of the villa rather than fight all the tourists in Ubud. Every taxi driver knew grocery store where the path to the villa starts so we never had a problem returning from a day out. The location turned out to be a huge plus.

The villa is beautiful. We felt safe and just plain comfortable. We rented all the bedrooms so we had the place to ourselves. Our kids (4 of them) loved the pool and the villa grounds were beautiful. Each morning, Pia, the local girl who runs the villa made us a great breakfast and helped us with other questions. My kids beg me to make Pia Pancakes now. Somehow, pancakes taste better in Bali.

If you are traveling with small children be aware there is no railing on the staircase. Our older kids did not have a problem, but smaller kids might.

I know there are a lot of places to stay in Bali but I can't imagine a place better than the Villa Semua Suka.

Thank you for a wonderful stay...

Left on 12/31/2012 for a stay in October 2012

We had the most wonderful stay and fell in love with the villa, not only did we not want to leave but would have loved to have stayed permanently!

There was a slight hiccup with flipKey when we booked, saying that our reservation may not be secure but Barbara very kindly phoned me, even though she was away on holiday herself, which I really appreciated. We also ran out of water one day, but again a phone call to Henry and it was instantly fixed.

The location suited us perfectly. With no vehicle access, it was peaceful and relaxing in among other villas and rice fields, away from busy roads and traffic, but close enough to walk (15 minutes) to the bustle of Ubud; although the steps up from the main road may not be suitable for everyone. Small restaurants and supermarket are close by.

It really did feel like a home away from home, the owners beautifully furnishings, just giving that extra personal touch. The villa and garden were immaculate, not a thing placed without thought.

Made Pia, was so lovely to have around and made wonderful homemade bread and jams for breakfast.

We also really appreciated having use of the separate bungalow, which is ideal for a single or couple to have a little added privacy and time away as needed.

We would definitely stay again and keep day dreaming of when we might be able to return!

Thank you, we had a memorable stay.

friendliness, quality, tranquillity and access to the action

Left on 10/09/2012 for a stay in October 2012

I had a great time at this place. The house and garden are just beautiful - it's actually all quite new, but it feels so well established - garden feels like it's been there a long time, and the house is beautifully and very comfortably furnished and decorated. Owners Barbara and Henry felt like instant 'old friends' and were incredibly helpful with all matters about staying there and with information about what's happening in town - particularly, during my stay, in relation to the Writers Festival, but also on places to eat, markets, music and other events going on. Manager, Made Pia, was exceptionally obliging and lovely to have around. She makes a fabulous breakfast - with a selection of home-made jams and even home-made bread. Truly delicious.

Great neighbourhood - really close and convenient to the Writers Festival action, and walking distance to town via a pretty walking path and the Campuhan steps. Couple of great cafes close by, and a yoga studio just a couple of minutes' walk away. Also really close to the supermarket and other shops. Not sure how you'd go if it was pouring rain, as it is pedestrian access only (at night, you need a flashlight - which is provided) - but that means glorious quiet.

I stayed in the upstairs room, which is spacious and airy. It has two large balconies, one on either side, with views over traditional tiled rooves and rice-fields - it felt very private, while at the same time there are the benefits of convivial company downstairs. Wonderfully peaceful - the sounds at night are nature sounds: birds, insects, flowing water - life! Everything feels fresh and clean and well taken care of. Quality sheets and towels provided. All these little touches make staying here something special. And really good value for the price.

I enjoyed it so much I have promised to come back and stay at the owners' other house on the north coast some time (I'm told they do the same breakfast up there - my mouth is watering in anticipation).

Loved Bali - Great Vacation Home away from Home

Left on 10/08/2012 for a stay in November 2011

We stayed at Villa Semua Suka November 2011. We had such a wonderful time, we are considering a trip back this year. We stayed at Semua Suka, in Ubud, a magical, beautiful property. We stayed both in the charming guest house and the lovely main house (after return Villa Sunrise, Tejukula, North Shore, Bali - owned by same couple - also amazing place to stay). The Ubud home is filled with beautiful Balinese art, pool, koi ponds and lush gardens. We were very comfortable, with the creature comforts of Western culture, and the delightful charm of Bali living. It was perfect to be situated in Ubud, amid the rice fields with so much culture and arts available to see & experience. We were treated to daily fresh fruit, amazing breakfasts, and attentive service from both the staff and the owners, Barbara and Henry, who were there part of the time. They were super fun, friendly and full of knowlegde and suggestions to help make our visit to beautiful Bali, one we will never forget.

We stayed at Villa Sunrise in January for 5 nights. I spent 5 days in Villa Jepun. The whole property is beautifully designed and maintained. The two Mades and the gardener were daily visitors (breakfast is the best I've had in Bali!) and kept everything immaculate.
This was my 'relax' part of a business trip and I had time to properly wind down in quiet and privacy.
The pool is superb and I used it several times a day. The main house was occupied for a couple of the days I was there but the design works to ensure everyone has enough privacy.
All in all a splendid part of this visit.

      A slice of heaven

Left on 04/20/2012 for a stay in January 2012

Semua Suka is a small slice of paradise on earth. A 15 minute walk on the main road from Ubud, this 2 bedroom 2 bath main house plus 1 bedroom and 1 bath separate bungalow nestled in a bejeweled garden is a pleasure to inhabit. My husband and I spent 5 glorious weeks here and would have stayed longer if the owners had not insisted upon returning. On arrival with our 6 suitcases we were somewhat daunted by the set of rather steep stairs that faced us at the main roadway leading alongside the wall of one of the major supermarkets just outside Ubud. We were heartened by the warm welcome of the staff who had come to greet us and carry our luggage and lead us to the compound. We climbed the stairs and began what seemed at the time to be a long walk along the high wall of the market and then between the walled compounds, across a waterfall made by the irrigation canals from the nearby rice paddies, along a ridge where a cock crowed every time we passed whether day or night to a beautifully carved wooden door which when opened revealed an etched glass waterfall fountain. Beyond lay our home for the next 5 weeks, Villa Semua Suka. Just behind the fountain is a perfectly proportioned swimming pool with the main house on the left and down a few steps directly to the right of the gate the bungalow, each in its own garden. The gardens are thoughtfully landscaped overflowing with the verdant vegetation of Bali both flowers and foliage -- All lovingly cared for by a very talented gardener who also manages the pool water daily so it never has any odor and stays crystal clear. Although the garden around the house and in front of the Bungalow manages to look natural, there is never a leaf out of place. Two large lily/lotus ponds reside in front of the bungalow, one full of active koi who love to be fed and the other housing an enormous catfish. Graceful Lotuses rise regularly from the upper pond and bloom gloriously to be seen from the front terrace of the main house and the bungalow. Not to be outdone, the main house has a small koi pond between the living room terrace and the master bedroom terrace with a small fountain. The large living room-dinning room-kitchen is comfortable and spacious for easy living with large windows-french doors all around. The furniture is comfortable to sit and lie on while the beds are new and very good. This is a blessing if you have rented homes before and know how uncomfortable rented house furniture and beds can be! The master bedroom opens onto a terrace right on the pool with a large open bathroom that includes an indoor and an outdoor shower. We never used the indoor shower. The outdoor shower has lovely plants and a beautiful fountain that looks like a giant beehive and runs constantly making lyrical water-music. The upstairs bedroom and bath has two balconies – one looks out over the garden and pool as well as the far off mountains and from which you can watch the weather coming, an exciting extra attraction, and the second has a view over rice paddies. The Bungalow has a beautiful bath which includes an outdoor shower and outdoor bathtub. Its garden is quite private from the main house. If all this isn’t enough the owners have decorated the house tastefully with excellent Balinese art and crafts. Finally the staff is superb. Pia who is the head housekeeper takes care of everything, speaks excellent English and can arrange many things for you. Her assistant Made is lovely and takes care of the spiritual well-being of the property so that you feel like you are a part of the spiritual life of Bali while you are staying there. Nyomen the head taxi driver who is available for guests knows the Island and its affairs intimately and will assist you in doing or finding anything. The Bintang Supermarket is a 6 minute walk and has everything you might need. A multiple of restaurants of many cuisines are ready to deliver food in 30 minutes and Pia is an excellent cook and bakes fresh bread and other wonderful goodies for your breakfast (I recommend her pancakes) which comes with the rental. Just to the right of Bintang is Sedona, a reasonably priced Spa, that provides all the amenities with a beautiful new facility in the back including outdoor massage enclosures with tubs and salon – again less than a 10 minute walk from the house. Up the main road from the house within walking distance are a set of fine restaurants including many good Indonesian, a world class continental (Moziac) and a fine Japanese. We rent houses all over the world every year and I cannot recommend this compound more highly. I am sure that 3 couples or a family with children would all be happy here. We, as one couple, loved having it all to ourselves and plan to return. There is a part of me that did not want to write this review because I want to keep this little slice of heaven a secret so it will be available to me whenever I want it but I know that would be unfair so please enjoy it and treat it with the love and respect it deserves! By the way, the original walk from the main road that seemed so long when we arrived is really very short and we would laugh after the first couple of days at what we thought was such a trek and how that short walk took us to such peace and quiet just steps away from everything.

      Felt like home, but better!

Left on 08/04/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Villa Semua Suka was within our budget, very new, spacious, clean, great pool, within walking distance to Ubud and far enough away from the crowds to feel secluded without being remote. We arrived about 2 hours late due to flight delay & it was quite late at night, the staff were waiting to help get our numerous heavy suitcases out of our car from the road 150 meters walk by foot. We were greeted with warm welcoming smiles!

Due to some heavy rain earlier in the day, the power was out to the house when we arrived, but the following day the electrician fixed the problem. The staff apologised and did their best to help us feel comfortable.

The house was great! Our daughter are under 4 and 2 and we were concerned about the rail-less staircase to the upstairs bedroom, however this was never a problem. We felt quite safe. We could hardly keep our daughters out of the lovely pool that was maintained daily! Sometimes 3 or 4 times a day they would jump in for a swim.

Made P and Made R did an excellent job of serving delicious breakfasts and were excellent house keepers. The home made bread and jam tasted great and always served with warm friendly smiles.

The only thing that wasn't perfect was that one time our laundry was left in the washing machine for a day or so. The hot humid climate can make your clothes smell damp and musty, even after they have dried. Problem was easily fixed by talking with them and it never happened again.

The other little Bungalow on the property is very close by, but we barely noticed the other guests, who were very nice people.

The owners might give you some simple directions to find the property, it's not that straight forward. Ask them for the written directions & map I prepared, you still mightn't find the property straight away, but you'll get there pretty soon!

Overall, we would easily and happily stay there again!

What a Fabulous Vacation! Thought I had died and gone to Heaven!

Left on 05/15/2011 for a stay in April 2011

Just stayed at Villa Semua Suka for 2 weeks. Rented both the large 2 storey house as well as the bungalow. There were six in my family and our grandson. We had a great time visiting museums, eating out every night, and lounging by the pool during the day. Made made us some wonderful breakfasts. My favorite was her vanilla french toast with fruit salad. Everything was brand spanking new! The Villa had just been completed to Western standards. Every comfort and convenience has been thought of. The house was in a neighborhood of ex-pats and Balinese. Our grandson got to play with the child next door and even learned some Balinese words. It was the best and most stressless vacation I've ever experience. All our need and desires were met. We'll tell all our friends and family about Villa Semua Suka and hope to come back again!
