We recently stayed at Devi's place for 9 nights and can thoroughly recommend it. Our villa was really comfortable with views over ricefields giving the feeling that you're far away from the madding crowd when you're only 5 minutes away from the centre of Ubud.
The villas are set in beautiful gardens and there is a lovely pool to help you cool down.
Janny and her staff are very welcoming and do everything possible to make your stay a pleasant one. Don't leave without trying Murdi's cooking -it's delicious.
This place is a real gem! -

We don't really want to reveal how much we loved Devi's Place because the rates will increase and it will be booked out when we next want to go there: however, the Villas are in Penestanen (SW of & adjacent to Ubud). Our Villa overlooked the open vista of padifields and we watched the farmers at their daily work.
Twice we walked into Ubud (I'm 67), though scooters and helmets are available for rental and we enjoyed the use of a scooter for transport.
The staff (managed by the esteemed Ketut Dirta) were all angels and we wanted for nothing. Each individual gave of their best and showed genuine interest in our comfort.
Our self-contained villa had an air-conditioned bedroom with the best bed. The salt water pool was a daily heaven.
This is not so much a place for kids who want all the latest electronic glitz and glamour; but for us, it was heaven-on-earth!! -

I have had the pleasure of staying at this villa a few times and I found it so relaxing. You feel yourself slipping into the Balinese rhythm after a few days.
The staff at Dewi's Place are delightful and I would say that word cannot due the place justice you just have to experience it yourself.
I have been to Baki before and stayed at many hotels but after staying at Dewi's Place I fell in love with Ubud all over again.
Miss it already, and will be heading back there soon

This idyllic corner of Bali can only be described as paradise. I loved everything about it, the food the staff the tranquillity and best of all was the atmosphere.
Nothing was a problem for the staff all you had to do was ask. The house was awesome, totally self-contained. If you wanted to do any cooking of your own it was right there. You could just relax on one of the many day beds or take a private dip in your own pool.
Can't wait to get back there again this month.

Still as good as last year
Left on 03/03/2013 for a stay in February 2013
Was here same time last year and loved it. Had to return to stay again this year and as before we were so happy we did. Everything still as great as the last time except the garden is even prettier. Wonderful owners and lovely staff. We shall return again. Thanks so much. Make sure you hire their driver. He is reasonably priced and a great guy as well and that way you will have no trouble finding it.

Gold CoastAn oasis where we felt like we lived in Bali.
Left on 12/11/2012 for a stay in November 2012
We have stayed in many places all over the world and Devi's Place is one of few that exceeded our expectations. We chose Devi's Place in the hope of a quiet, relaxing stay close enough to Ubud but far enough away to be a bit quieter, and this is exactly what we got. Our cottage was situated right on the boundary of endless rice fields. The lush, tropical gardens throughout the property offered us both privacy and also the feeling that we were the only ones staying there. Janny and the Balinese staff could not have been friendlier and more helpful. We have already decided that when we return to Bali we will most certainly be staying here again.

ManlyJepun Cottage-beautiful!
Left on 12/01/2012 for a stay in November 2012
We stayed in Jepun Cottage which was perfect for a couple and lovely overlooking the rice paddies. The bed was a little small and pillows big and uncomfortable. However, the villa itself makes up for that! Pool is 5 metres away and the gardens are absolutely beautiful and well maintained. Scooter is available for $5 a day. Janny and Ketut friendly (owners). Breakfast is only very simple, so might be worth going to the supermarket and getting some extra food. The kitchen is fully equipped.

I had a great 10 day stay in Jepun Cottage. Great scenery, great local sounds, great people. Janny was an outstanding host and was so helpful during my stay. When I didn't want to go out to eat Murdi cooked the most fabulous home meals. All around it was the perfect place for me and I wouldn't hesitate to revisit.

We enjoyed being out of the hustle and bustle of Ubud and overlooking rice fields - it felt very rural. The service we received was excellent - nothing was too much trouble. The house was well equipped and very private. It was within easy walking distance of some very good warungs and about 30 mins walk into Ubud.
The best thing about it was the feeling of homeliness and comfort and I thought it was very good value for money. -

Left on 07/08/2012 for a stay in July 2012
If you can keep a secret and don't tell anyone else I'll tell you about a very special place to stay just outside Ubud at the end of Penestanan village. Look for a pair of red fluttering Bali flags and the name Devi's Place is signed on the gate post.
Once you enter a very tranquil location awaits you. There are actually four villas in the gardens but because of the clever placement of pretty shrubs and plants each villa is very private.
I've stayed in two - Lotus and Jepun.Â
Because of the green rice fields seeming to surround it with views and constant Balinese life taking place right beside you (farmers tending their rice fields, chirping bird life and the joyful chatter of young children flying their kites), Jepun would have to be my favourite with a large comfortable bed, snowy white sheets and a semi outdoor bathroom right next to a rice field! Also the soft couches and daybed just invite you to slow down and chill out!
Janni and her staff, Ketut, Murdi, Rastini, and aris really make you stay so very special. Not intrusive but you are aware that should you need anything at all they will go out of their way to make your stay one to remember very fondly.
Now that I have told you about my secret little 'shangrilar' spot in Bali try to keep it a secret won't you? I need to save it for my next holiday in Bali. -

We stayed in Jepun Cottage for 10 nights and did not want to leave. The cottage is comfy, clean and well furnished with fabulous views over the rice fields. The pool is clean, cold and deep - which was so refreshing. Everyone at Devi's place is so lovely and friendly. Every day we came home to freshly cleaned room and bathroom, which can be forgotten in the big hotels. My favourite time of day here was early morning. Waking up and making a bali coffee, checking to see if the mountain was visible from the cute kitchen, then sitting at the table and watching the colours unfold over the rice paddies. An early morning visit from Janny's 2 gorgeous little doggies (who we both fell in love with) always bought a smile and then a long and leisurely breakfast, before heading out to explore on our scooter. A perfect Bali day! Jepun cottage weaves it's own type of magic. Don't say I didn't warn you (-:

I loved every minute of my stay in the Jepun Cottage at Devi's Place. The tropical gardens were well planned, colourful and uplifting.
The very comfortable accommodation and service couldn't be faulted. Looking out at the beautiful vista of the tranquil rice fields from bed was a real treat with the pool only a few steps away.
The management and staff were very nice and helpful. I didn't want to leave and would love to return sooner rather than later. -

Jepun is a very comfortable, bright and open cottage with many places to seat and read, relax, rest and watch the world go by. With the pool right there it easy to pop in anytime of the day for a cool dip. Even though there are other cottages Jepun is very private with the garden sheilding you from the other places. From the balcony you are able to look over the rice fields right down to the coast. We were there for a month and couldn't believe how fast it went. Jani and Ketut were fantastic helping out in numerous ways and making us feel very welcome. It was like a home away from home. The staff were brilliant always with a huge smile and ready to do things for us at a drop of a hat. We would recommend anyone to stay here, it is close enough to Ubud and far away to have a very peaceful stay. We hired a scooter for the month which was great getting us around. It was lovely staying there as you got to meet local people and we were invited in homes and family celebrations. We felt very honoured to be included. We had a wonderful time and have many lovely memories of our stay.

My husband and I stayed at Jepun cottage for 3 nights this past March. Let me begin by saying it lived up to every review we read about it! Our flight got in very late, but Ketut was there to greet us and welcome us into the cottage. It was our first time to Bali, so we weren't sure what to expect. The next morning we woke up surrounded by beautiful rice terrace, lush garden, and sparkling pool. Simply wonderful. Janny greeted us in the morning, and had our breakfast of fresh fruit, smoothies, coffee and toast prepared for us right on the veranda. She was there to answer questions, offer suggestions, and familiarize us with the area. She was so helpful and patient with us as I had many questions! The cottage was very clean and in a very quiet area. We rented the motorbike for all 3 days we were there, and it was so much fun (and cheap!). The motorbikes were in really good condition, and made it so much easier for us to get around. Things in Ubud were quite spread out, so I would recommend using the motorbikes. Ketut was also available if we needed a ride out for dinner as well. Overall, everything was perfect at our stay. Lovely location, great service, and unbeatable price. We will definitely be back as soon as we can! Thanks for everything.

Having read previous glowing reviews before booking we had high expectations of Jepun Cottage and we were not disappointed. In fact our experience exceeded expectations.
The cottage, the pool, the situation and the delightful staff all contribute to making it a wonderful place to stay.
Janny, Murdi and Ketut were there to greet us on arrival, to make us welcome and explain about the accomodation and the area. A perfect introduction which, incidentally, did not always happen at other Bali villas we rented on this holiday. This care and attention by staff continued throughout our five day stay.
We liked the open feel of this comfortable cottage and we enjoyed the views over the rice fields from the open terrace and from the bathroom window. The exotic and prolific planting in the garden gave us a feeling of privacy as well as being a delight to the eye and a haven for insects and bird life.
For guests who, like us, enjoy walking it is an easy and interesting 40 minute stroll from the cottage into Ubud, passing through the village and on to a footpath which ends at the steps down to the main road into Ubud. Janny will give you directions.
Thank you Janny, for treating us like friends and making us feel at home. And thank you Murdi, Ketut and Ketut for looking after us so well. We are planning to come back and have also already recommended Jepun Cottage to friends. What more can we say?

I stayed in Jepun Cottage for bout 11 days. The breakfast, the staff, the manager Janny, the gardens, the ricefields, the village all were fantastic. It made for a wonderful introduction to Bali for a first time traveller. I recommend getting their driver to pick you up though, street directions are almost non existent, you need to local to show you around. Very safe & secure, if you have young children, they cannot get out of the property, although would need to keep an eye of them around the pool- that is unfenced but always easy to keep an eye. For me, as a single traveller I found it a bit too big, but there are various sizes of villas on the property. Gardens were beautiful, and well kept. Pool extremely refreshing after day of sightseeing, or just doing nothing but relaxing!

We stayed here while attending the Ubud Writer's & Reader's Festival. It was the perfect villa retreat that was reasonably priced & with very easy access into Ubud -- whether a leisurely walk through the rice fields & villages or motorbike or taxi. Local restaurants a great discovery & the staff couldn't be friendlier. The pool is shared between 3 villas but if staying with friends it's all yours.

My boyfriend and I stayed in Jepun cottage for our stay. Our cottage felt completely private and was literally in the rice field. Everyone at Devi's place was so so helpful and happy. Our first day we were greeted by everyone and shown our villa. Janny sat with our and explained everything about the area and the villas. We took them up on the offer of ordering in for dinner at a local restaurant and picked out a couple dvd's for our stay. We also rented one of the mopeds that they have available for only $5 a day. This place is heaven and we loved everyone moment of being there. Thank you Ketut, Ketut, Janny and Murdi for a relaxing time.

After 11 months of travel in SE asia, this beautiful place stands out in my memory. It is special and so are the people involved there. It is tranquil, private and has beautiful surroundings. It is located on the edge of the rice fields and also has a volcano view. The pool was large enough for swimming laps. I loved this place more than any other we stayed at during the whole trip.

I booked this beautiful villa after seeing recommendations on Tripadvisor. The location and villa was above and beyond all expectations.
From the moment we entered the gate we just felt so welcome and the garden setting is stunning.
Our villa beckoned us as we were welcomed with a cooling drink from the owner, Janny who was only to happy to answer our many questions. We spent a very relaxing week here and were so sad to have to say goodbye.
The villa itself was very clean, beautifully furnished and the bed was extremely comfortable. I am very fussy with beds and pillows and I could find no fault here. My head hit the pillow each evening and I slept very soundly(even better than at home in australia).
Murdi the housekeeper is an absolute gem of a lady. Her beautiful gentle nature and warm smile greeted us each morning as she prepared our breakfast which was a very healthy start to the day.
We hired some bikes whilst staying at the villa, and this provided us with transportation to get around and explore the absolute paradise that is Penestanan, Ubud, Bali.
The saltwater pool is so cooling and refreshing at any time of the day. The postcard views of the rice paddies are something to behold. You can walk through the paddies and this experience is highly recommended.
To sum up all I can say is that we felt so at home in a completely different culture and were so sad to have to leave at the end of our week.
Jepun Villa is heaven on earth. Thank you,Janny, Ketut, Murdi and all who work so diligently to make this stay such a wonderful experience.
Jepun Cottage has left indelible memories and we will definitely return as soon as it is possible. Terima kasih!!!

Left on 08/02/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We decided for our first Bali visit to find accommodation close to Ubud and that had a kitchen for easy self cooking and so we could do day trips by car without relocating accommodation. This worked very well when staying at Jepun Cottage in Penestanan just west of Ubud CBD shops. We did not want to go to the popular places such as Kuta not stay at resorts.
Ketut arranged our daily car and driver requirements and we had very clean cars and good English speaking drivers who knew the places we wanted to go to. Just so fantastic. Jepun was very handy with a great salt water pool adjacent, was clean and tidy and had all we wanted for a wonderful holiday although the kitchen was more a basic kitchenette.
The views over the rice paddy fields were good and later in the afternoon it was wonderful to see the sky filled with children and youths flying kites. Jepun is adjacent to the local community and so you can feel and witness the locals going about their business.
You can even have in-house cooked meals and these all proved good and mostly better than going out to restaurants allowing us to spend more time doing what we wanted to do.
We can recommend Jepun Cottage for those who do not want to stay in resorts. The last place we wanted was a resort and its regimented approaches. Jepun is easy going and laid back and fits around your needs.
Some day trips we did were to the volcano, elephant safari, elephant cave, bird park, reptile park, Kuta, and, of course, Ubud markets, palace and shops. Goods in Ubud that I priced were well below those in Kuta (eg. Rp1500 instead of Rp6000) so just spend some time bargaining at the Ubud market.
One of our aims was to have massages and we went to several 'spas' and had excellent massages to make the holiday away from hard work at home so great to experience.
Make Jepun a consideration for your holiday and talk to Janni and Ketut about your needs.

This cottage is the nicest I have stayed in in Bali. It is peaceful, safe and private, with a beautiful outlook over the rice fields. I particularly enjoyed relaxing on the couch/daybed on the veranda looking out over the fields with a cool breeze and cold drink. The swimming pool is only a few meters away and is warm and inviting to have regular dips. The garden setting is beautiful and like a tropical oasis after the hustle and bustle of traveling in Bali. The staff are friendly and very informative. Would definitely recommend.

Not only is the cottage and surrounding property (built in the traditional Balinese family complex manner) stunning and well kept-up, but the people who own and run the cottages are some of the most caring, wonderful people. You'll feel like you have a family away from home.
Though there are multiple buildings on the property, each cottage feels as though it is its own private retreat. The decor, atmosphere, open air living style, and beautiful surroundings make the Jepun cottage a true gem.
Directly on the rice paddies, within walking, motorscooting, or biking distance to the quaint town of Penestanan, and within motorbike or driving distance of central Ubud, you can't ask for a better location. There are walking trails that take you far into the rice fields, and the surrounding area is full of wonderful shops and wayans. -
