The villa met and exceeded our expectations.

Left on 05/13/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Four of us recently spent 5 weeks at Villa Tatiapi and loved every minute of it. Agung and his staff were excellent. My partner has mobility problems since a stroke and agung went above and beyond in assisting him. He truly was a gem. The location was excellent for walks in the village or rice fields and the included two daily trips into Ubud made any eating or shopping trips more than convenient. The pool was maintained beautifully and well used and appreciated by us. The fact that we could hire agung and his a/c vehicle, very reasonably, to take us anywhere on Bali and act as out quide and interpreter made the whole vacation so effortless. Our dealings with Darren were always pleasant and prompt and he answered every single question we had prior to our stay. We had an itinerary of places we wished to see and he forwarded this to agung prior to our visit for his perusal and suggestions. Every effort was made by them to ensure we had a wonderful vacation and at Villa Tatiapi we certainly did.

Stay at Villa Tatiapi, Ubud - unsatisfactory experience

Left on 03/29/2013 for a stay in March 2013

Villa Tatiapi experience was not very satisfactory. Pictures shown on the net are deceiving. Villa lacks security and hygiene. Bedroom doors have no latches and locks and lack privacy. $400 went missing from our bedrooms on last day of our 5 nights stay. There are snakes around the swimming pool and mosquitoes in abundance. Car provided is in extremely bad shape.Think twice before booking.

Response from Darren Leaver - 04/07/2013

      Darren Leaver

      Owner

We are saddened to see you had such an experience. We've never had any guests express this disappointment before so it comes as a shock. We try to be very realistic with guests about the villa as they go through the booking process, and most would agree the photos reflect what exists at the villa. This cottage-style 2-bedroom villa with private pooI was booked for $99/night plus tax (low season) and this price point reflects very good value for the villa, especially since all net proceeds fund a local school program. I have contacted the guests who stayed immediately before you and the guests who checked in afterwards and they indicated none of the same conditions you describe. In fact, the guests currently at the villa tell me they wouldn't change a thing. It is true that the bedroom doors do not lock but we have not seen this as a problem before because the entire villa is rented to one family and the exterior doors all lock from the inside. Mosquitos can be a problem in the wet season but there are screens on the tops of the windows so the Mosquitos should stay outside if the doors are closed at dusk. Since the villa is located near rice fields there are animals that come and go at will, all we can do is make sure there is no permanent habitat for unwanted wildlife within the villa property and that the staff chase away unwanted critters.

I have communicated with the manager to insist he looks into all these issues and takes them seriously, most importantly the missing money. We do have a safety box inside the villa and encourage guests to use this, though I must add we have never had a report of losses in the past. I take this very seriously indeed as this type of incident can not be allowed to occur at all. I requested specific details on the circumstances from you when you contacted me and after one week there has been no reply, so my hands are tied in terms of formally and fairly resolving the issue. In the meantime we will add another safety box to the villa and locks to secure the bedroom doors. Again, we all feel terrible that your experience at Villa Tatiapi was not what you had wished for, and I will do all I can to make sure future guests have a better experience.
      Sincerely,
      Darren Leaver

      Tranquil place in Ubud

Left on 11/15/2012 for a stay in November 2012

Villa Tatiapi is one of the nicest places in Bali we stayed. We (parents and two teenagers) spent there five charming days exploring Ubud and places of interest in north and east of Bali. Although this is not a five-star hotel it has undeniable charm due to the surrounding rice fields, swaying coconut trees, garden and pool arrangement as well the Balinese style of the Villa itself. Villa is located about 10 minutes drive from Ubud but the drop off and pick-up services performed by the staff made the distance unnoticeable (free of charge) :-) Mr. Agung who takes care of the villa is a nice person, very helpful and his assistance in arranging transportation and all the thing related to our stay is highly appreciated. Mr. Agung, his family and staff are taking everyday care of the villa and the guests. The served breakfast is simple but very fresh and tasty (toasts, scrambled eggs, fresh fruits, juices and coffee or tea, jams, honey). For small additional fee Mr. Agung can prepare lunch or dinner in the villa (fried rice, smoked duck, etc). Nearby villa you can make quite long walks in rice fields, small roads and wonder among the villages and local temples. The villa is a perfect place to stay for people looking for relaxed atmosphere, country side tranquillity - crowing roosters, ducks and wild birds :-))) For us it was just The Place! Booking was very simple and quick - just exchanging of few emails with Mr. Darren - the owner. To our surprise we found even a safe- box for our usage in the villa and we had got a mobile phone to communicate with Mr. Agung.

      Villa Tatiapi

Left on 08/22/2012 for a stay in August 2012

I am departing Villa Tatiapi today, onto a new destination in Bali. I had the pleasure to have dinner with Darren and Laura as they were departing back to the USa on the day after I arrived.

Agung and his family and staff were as all others have shared, remarkable, gracious, kind, with true balinese charm.

The villa is very comfortable, functional, clean, and close to most everything in Ubud. The daily transportation service into Ubud by agung was complimentary and convenient.

Take the morning hike to Mount Batur. If you have any health limitations or are out of shape, this trekk is not for the weary... But wel worth the view from the top of the crater at sunrise.

Thank you for a wonderful stay. I will return.

A Slice of Heaven in the Ricefields

Left on 06/27/2012 for a stay in May 2012

We stayed for one month at Villa Tatiapi in May/June, and we left feeling very grateful for our time there, to have a place of our own in the rice fields, and at the same time, be so close to Ubud. Making arrangements was flawless, working with Darren via email. Off the bat he seemed to want to make sure that we'd have everything we would need while we were there. He even ordered pool toys for our 4-yr-old!
The villa is lovely, comfortable, very spacious and clean. It can easily accommodate a family of 4 or two couples. The queen beds are very comfortable (that was important to me) with gorgeous mosquito netting. The kitchen is pretty basic, but fully functional with a full fridge. My favorite part, however, is the fabulous, pristine porch that overlooks the pool and the gardens. We spent lots of time on the porch, reading, watching our daughter swim, gazing out onto the beautiful scenery.
Outside, the gardens are meticulous with flowers, plants, coconut trees, a pond with fountain, and a little gazebo in the corner. The pool, well, let's just say it's the cleanest, most beautiful pool we've ever swam in. The rice fields are steps below the villa and on any given day, you can watch the workers in the field, see a duck or a chicken waddle by, or see kites in the sky, flown by the local children.
What we appreciated the most during our stay at Tatiapi, was our gracious and very professional host, Agung, and his staff and family who were there to help make our stay easy. They lived down the path, were never in our way, but would always be near if we needed them. Agung was available to drive us into Ubud (less than 10 min away) when we needed. It was truly the perfect way to experience Bali - away from the bustle of Ubud, amongst peaceful rice fields, and close enough to hop into town when we wanted. This is my 3rd visit to Bali, and Villa Tatiapi is by far my new favorite place to stay.

      Fabulous place to stay

Left on 03/14/2012 for a stay in February 2012

We stayed here for 5 nights in late Feb and were most impressed. The villa is simple and clean and the kids spent tonnes of time in the pool. It'The villa is just outside a small village, backs on to rice fields ans is less than 10 minutes drive from Ubud. Agung, who lives next door, can run you in to Ubud whenever you want. Agung and his family are super friendly and go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Agung also acts as a very releiable driver if you want to take any day trips from Ubud. Breakfast every morning was a great way to start the day. I also have to say that dealing with Darren, the owner, was a real pleasure. If you're thinking about a villa in Ubud then don't hesitate to put this at the top of your list.

      absolutely perfect!

Left on 01/25/2012 for a stay in November 2011

It was my first time staying at my own personal villa, and this place did not disappoint!!! A little outside of Ubud, a ten minute scooter ride, and nestled in between rice paddy's. The view every morning was amazing as I drank my morning coffee and took a quick swim in my own private pool. The place was very clean, decked out in classic Balinese decor, and a lot of room so my friend and I had our own space when we needed it. I am a chef so I was really excited to shop at the local markets and then get to cook at home in our own kitchen, not only does it save on money but it also makes for a wonderful quite evening at home, and really this place felt like home instantly. The staff was wonderful, sweet, and helpful, whenever I needed anything they were there to help me. What else can I say, it was perfect, great price, great people, and lots of space! I would recommend this place to anyone with a family, loved one, or people just looking to have their own space and a little serenity from the usual craziness of traveling.

      Best of both worlds

Left on 11/24/2011 for a stay in September 2011

My wife and I and two children lived for 84 days at Villa Tatiapi. We still miss it!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I highly recommend it. I liked it for two main reasons. Firstly it was nestled right next to a very traditional Balinese village full of the daily cultural life of Bali. If you chose, you could walk out the fence and be part of the real Bali with chickens and ducks and religious ceremonies. This includes a magnificent walk through the rice paddies where you would not see a soul beyond the duck and rice farmers and temples. If you choose to stay inside the fence, you can be secluded in privacy with modern amenities like WiFi (excellent), TV, Stereo and superb swimming pool etc.
The second major benefit was its close proximity to Ubud - from which you could receive the benefits of large tourist city but not be part of the daily hustle and bustle of suburbia.
In regards the house. It is not five star. The two bedrooms rooms are large and clean, both with aircon and ensuite. Both ensuites are not luxury but recently renovated and very functional. The kitchen was large and we cooked many feasts. However it took some time to master. If you are staying for a short time it will be great. The kitchen has great dining room attached to it. The front of the home has a large veranda and we lived there. It was great and we got the tables and chairs out and swam in the pool overlooking the rice paddies and it was fun. The garden is very large with places to play for children.
The man next door agung speaks very good English and if you have the slightest quiver of a concern he will send the world running to solve your slightest whim.
We thoroughly enjoyed Villa Tatiapi and we will happily return.
