Description from the owner
From Kedewatan Ridge the view of the Ayung River valley, Ubud, Bali is breathtaking: a contrast between carefully tended Balinese rice fields and the fast moving, wild river below, between open sky and steep slopes covered by tropical jungle. It is a magical and emotional experience, a feeling as if thousands of years of cultural and natural heritage were unfolding in a huge, panoramic spectacle. This view, one of the most spectacular in the island of Bali, perhaps in the world, is hypnotizing, continuously changing throughout the day, revealing new layers of light, space, color, texture. Sitting atop this ridge is Umah Tampih, a unique mode...Read more

Perth, AustraliaWowww- so fantastic we had to extend our stay
Left on 04/20/2013 for a stay in January 2013
On this 10 day trip to Bali, we planned to spend half our time in Seminyak and half in Ubud. We had been to Bali before, but this time we were going to try villas instead of hotels.
The place in Seminyak was lovely, and I really liked the staff there, so I was sad the day we had to leave our beautiful pool villa in sunny Seminyak for the transfer to Ubud. The driver of the new resort was nice and he stopped to get me a coconut on the way, then we made the all important stop to feed ourselves at Ibu Oka before arriving at the villa.
At first we just walked around and around, not believing the fantastic selection I had made!! :-) Imagine four seasons, ritz carlton, ...that is how this place felt and looked, and was.
The view...you could sit all day looking at that view- of terraced rice paddies in a very long river valley. The sound of the river was so relaxing, occasionally you would hear the yell of rafters going by in that river down below...
The buildings... had concrete walls, you would never think concrete could be so beautiful. We talked alot about how they might have constructed this place. There was minimalist furniture, with such unique pieces. The deck was our favorite spot...didn't really want to leave it. The pool was our other favorite spot...where you could continue gazing down and around the valley, and all that green.
The staff were amazing...something like 7 of them (just for us) who were well trained not to disturb. They were very sweet and we really liked them all. A couple of them gave me rides on their scooters (because I really like riding on the back of a scooter in Ubud, and I asked). The driver was friendly, good english.
We loved this place so much i tried like crazy to change our return tickets to stay a little longer and everyone including the manager tried to help...I eventually found a way to do it that a staff member helped me with. Really, really Great staff!!! The ladies also taught me how to make those green/pandan pancakes wrapped with coconut inside. My BF took a walk down into the valley and he enjoyed that.
Overall we loved this place very much and hope to return...thanks to the staff for being so nice and buying me mangosteens and pandan essence. Terimah kasih banyak!!! Sampai jumpah lagi! -

New YorkUmah Tampih is an outstanding contemporary villa in a beautiful
Left on 03/06/2013 for a stay in February 2013
The most beautiful feature of Umah Tampih is the setting and the breathtaking view down into the valley tiered with verdant green rice paddies. It is a wonderful private oasis away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Ubud. The striking modern buildings are arranged around a landscaped courtyard with a wonderful balance of indoor and outdoor living. A stunning swimming pool juts out over the valley. The rooms are tastefully appointed with ethnic and contemporary art. As an architect, I appreciated the attention to design and the meticulous details. The staff where attentive and professional. It was a treat to stay there.

New YorkStunning and spectacular
Left on 06/26/2012 for a stay in June 2012
I have lived around Ubud for over year, and so I can say with some knowledge that this house enjoys the most stunning view anywhere in the vicinity and was build by arguably the best architect in Bali. I am not a big friend of modernism, but in the jungle and in the hands of the right architect it works brilliantly. The staff is kind, talented and discreet. We spent what might be the happiest week of our lives there.

Kuala LumpurA true slice of blissful heaven
Left on 05/11/2012 for a stay in April 2012
This is truly an amazing place to stay, with the sound of the raging river, the priceless view and the impeccable service, I never wanted to leave the villa!!
This is a space that makes you feel immediately at home and truly welcomed - a beautifully designed villa that seems to embrace its surrounding. The gracious staff were attentive and definitely went out of their way to make my stay truly special.
Sunrise swims in the pool while watching the morning sky colour the unique Bali scenery was definitely the best thing of my stay... you hear so much about the magic of mother nature in Bali and this is one place where that magic truly resonates.
I had such an amazing blissful stay here and will definitely come back. -

This was my second stay at Umah Tampih and it just seems to get better and better, which I didn't think possible. The food is first class, the staff are gracious and accommodating and the architecture of the place is more interesting than some of the more stunning homes I've seen in Malibu. The views overlooking the ridge, rice fields, and river rapids below can only be described as breathtaking and there is always a gentle breeze to relieve any mid-day heat. I enjoyed my private morning swims in the stone pool which felt natural and volcanic. Everything felt heavenly. At night I took a gazillion sunset pictures that seemed to be taken from some celestial artist's palette. I definitely plan on returning. Situated on the outskirts of Ubud (the real sacred Bali), this is a place not to be missed.

PanamaOne of the Best Family Christmases Ever!
Left on 03/23/2012 for a stay in December 2011
It was the perfect place to spend our holidays! The architecture is stunning - located on a cliff, it overlooks rice fields, the rushing waters of the ayung River below, and the cliffs across the way. The design is truly unique, blending in rather than overwhelming its surroundings. The sunrises as well as the sunsets are awesome - we took so many photos. Our family absolutely loved it! The rooms are elegant and the beds extremely comfortable. The grounds and gardens are well maintained. Service is excellent and very personable, from the variety of food and drink choices to the attention of your rooms. Located near Ubud, it is easy to get to the main center for other activities. We will definitely visit again!

San FranciscoLiving in an architectural magazine
Left on 11/04/2011 for a stay in August 2011
This is but a quick 'place holder' review which I will update as soon as I am finished with my big deadline.
Suffice it to say that, as an architect, this is what it feels like to experience living in a house that belongs in an international caliber architectural magazine. The materials, attention to detail, and spacial experience is second to none. The location is fabulous, and while so close to Ubud all one sees is rice terraces, jungle and the river. Even traffic noise disappears drowned out by the sound of rushing water. So soothing.
The service is exemplary, the in-house dinners magnificent, the lap pool was a real pool (not some giant kidney shape tub), and the outdoor covered living space luxurious (as was the massage on the deck).
This is a splurge we will come back for again.
Ps. The photos on their website do not do it justice ... it has to be experienced in real life. You will not be disappointed.
