This suite was perfect for our family. It was well appointed and decorated, quiet, very clean, and very kid friendly. We had tons of room for 2 adults and 2 kids and Mike and Jennifer were terrific. We are looking forward to our next opportunity to stay

Nanaimo, BCConsistently excellent!

As a frequent business traveller to the area, I regularly choose this suite for my overnight trips. Always spotless, the well appointed suite is a steal of deal compared with other accomodations in the area...don't let the low price confuse you, its worthly of double the nightly rate as is commonly found with other accomodation providers. Very rare to find 2 bedrooms with a kitchen in Ucluelet for nightly rental (all families take note, this is one of the best family friendly rental units on the entire West Coast)!
After several visits, I can say with confidence that your stay will always be comfortable. Thanks to Jennifer and Mike for your generous hospitality and a business you can be very proud of...
Important to note...certainly no mosquito issues during any of my stays, you won't have any either as long as you don't leave your door open (remember folks, you are visiting the rainforest)

Bellingham, WAVery clean, comfortable, and convenient
Left on 08/14/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We would highly recommend anyone staying at this great vacation rental. The owners are very accessible for whatever you need. They were very clear upon check-in with all the details we needed for our stay. We have been going to Ucluelet for years and would stay here again in a heart beat. The previous review is the harshest critique of a vacation rental that I've ever seen and frankly, makes no sense. All the information you need to know about this place is listed on their website. No surprises. Super clean and comfortable for our family of four! We loved it, thank you!!

HawaiiArbutus Guest Suites in Ucluelet
Left on 07/30/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We rented this vacation rental for 5 (long) days, not realizing we could do all we needed to in probably 3 days.
Location - This vacation rental is pretty close to the end of the town, and although the town itself is quite small, I would guess this place is probably the farthest away and a bit remote. If you're looking for a quiet place to rest and relax, this would be it.
Not aDa friendly - the photo on Tripadvisor and on the arbutus Guest Suite website shows the front entrance of the home, where the owners reside. I did not know there were 17 steps in a row to get to the vacation rental, which is not visible in the photo and to the side of the house. On this trip, my sister has a knee problem and has difficulty ascending/descending stairs. Had I known there were so many stairs, I would have looked elsewhere. I mentioned this to Jennifer Rhodes and suggested they note there are stairs to enter the vacation rental for those who may have difficulty, since the photo misleads you into thinking there are just a few steps to the rental.
Interior - despite my disappointment with the stairs, this is a very clean place to stay with the family. The furnishings look exactly as they do on the website, and we thoroughly appreciated having a kitchen to prepare breakfast and dinner for our family, although we also ate out at a few places in town as well.
The bathroom was well stocked with supplies (although we ran out of toilet tissue and paper towels during our stay, and replenished by stopping at the local grocer) and towels; there's even a laundry basket in the hall closet for soiled towels and trash.
It is a beautiful place indoors. She provides all the linen, dishes, silverware, cups, pots, cooking utensils, etc. you need. There's even a BBQ grill on the deck (although we did not use it).
Suggestions - I would have rated this place higher if there were (1) less mosquitoes in the area, which I suspect are from the heavily forested lot next door for sale; I'm not sure how they came into the house, but we caught a few of them and suspect they came in through the screened window); (2) instead of wireless internet, I was unable to log onto my computer and needed a modem, which was not available; instead, Jennifer suggested to stop at the Blue Whale where internet was available for 10 cents per minute; not convenient for me as a guest to have to drive there when I needed the internet; (3) washer and dryer is needed for any vacation rental. This would have been so much appreciated since the weather was pretty gloomy/overcast most of the 5 days, rainy, and there was only 1 laundry mat which was very busy (but good to have).
The duvets were great - but the bed a bit too firm for me in the room I was staying in. Since there were 4 adults and 2 kids, they opened up (1) an air mattress on the ground; and (2) a folding bed. My total cost was $975 for the 5 days ($195 per night) - I think the air mattress needs to be upgraded to a folding bed/cot for this price.
Overall, it was a very clean place and I was happy for that. But not having internet access did not make my stay there very enjoyable. I would probably not stay here again, however if anyone is looking for a quiet place to visit and find their way to Ucluelet, this is a very nice and clean place to rest and I would recommend it , even though it did not meet all my needs and expectations.
Note: The owners went out of town Sunday through Wednesday, however informed us if we needed any help, she had family in town that we could call. She herself would be available by leaving a voice message on her phone. A nice gesture, but my feeling is the owner should be onsite to attend to my needs, instead of me having to call her when needed. Ucluelet has a short tourist season during the summer so it would appear reasonable to "take care of your guests" instead of taking a short trip yourself during this time. -

From check in to check out it was a wonderful experience. Mike and Jenifer are the friendliest hosts you will ever find. The suite was well appointed with all the amenities.
The area is a nature lovers paradise with the wild Pacific ocean and little hidden coves within minutes of your front door. Nature photograph at its best from early morning sunrise to late night sunset. Pacific Rim National Park/ Long Beach/ Tofino are all within a short drive. Whale watching is a must do. We will go back for a longer stay. -

AnnapolisA bit nicer than "just like home"
Left on 07/21/2011 for a stay in July 2011
This accommodation was gracious, comfortable, well equipped, spacious, and very nicely furnished. The proprietors were pleasant and easy going. All it lacked was an ocean view, but that was within walking distance.
