We were warmly greeted by owner, Sue, who gave us a tour of this small property. She'd brought us milk and fresh bread so we'd have stuff already in for breakfast next morning and told us we were welcome to use any stuff in the kitchen cupboards. A great start to a wonderful stay!
On the outside the property looks a strange shape, due to it being a larger dwelling split into smaller ones, but inside it was spot on for a couple. Beautifully decorated, comfortable furniture (bed was so-o-o comfy!), well appointed bathroom with bath and shower and a well equipped kitchen. We love self-catering as we like to use local ingredients so the kitchen was perfect for us. The cottage has storage heaters which, on wet, chilly days makes the place feel very cosy but you have to keep an ye on the weather forecast to know when to set the heating the night before.
The bedroom was our favourite sitting area during daylight as, in the bay window, the two easy chairs gave a great view over to Place Fell - wonderful!
The property is easily accessed (and all at ground level) down a small lane and there are 2 small village shops, various tea rooms and a couple of pubs 10 mins walk away in Glenridding and a pub, shop and hotel with restaurant 10 mins in the opposite direction in Patterdale.
If you,a walker or a Wainright bagger, the cottage is ideal as a setting off point. With one exception, we started all of our walks from the door. Public transport is also useful to carry you off to a walk's starting point so you can return, at leisure, on foot, via the pub!
My husband and I had a great week and we'll definitely make a return visit.
Best: location and amenities in the property
Least: that we only stayed a week! Read more

This is sa very well positioned cottage. We were able to do some bird watching as we sat at our table by the bedroom widow. Beacause the cottage is halfway between Patterdale and Glenridding we only used the car twice during the week as most walks started from where we were. The facilities were excellent and the wood burning stove fun to use, it reminded us of our 1960s childhoods. We would highly recommend this cottage and intend to book it again. Best thing, he central position, worst thing, can't think of one.
