Our second visit to Glen Cottage

Left on 04/19/2013 for a stay in March 2013

Glen Cottage was like the first time we visited immaculate. We stayed in March and there was surprisingly lots of snow but it was lovely in the cottage, the underfloor heating easily kept the place warm, we did not even need to light the log burner even though there were logs supplied.
I would recommend Glen Cottage to everyone what ever age.
You will see Helen the owner but she will not bother you, She'll be busy keeping the gardens lovely or as when we were there in March clearing snow.
Nice views with lots of local walks and Ulswater just a 5 minute drive away.
As for pet friendly, yes its great we can have a couple of dogs with us, best of all you would never know the visitors before had dogs there as the cleaners do a great job and theres no trace of a pet.

      Perfect Retreat

Left on 03/28/2013 for a stay in March 2013

We've stayed in many holiday cottages throughout the UK and this was by far the best. The setting, the ease of access, every commodity you could need was provided including the washing machine and dishwasher and the detergents too. The views from every window were amazing; we went early March and had snow covered mountains every day. A short drive takes you to the start of many walks of various difficulties and the people were extremely friendly. We took 2 large German shepherd dogs and this accommodation were perfect for them and us. Despite the fairly isolated setting and freezing conditions, the property was always warm due to the fabulous under floor heating and the wood burning stove. The kitchen has everything you need to eat as you would at home - no 'making do' here.
Lovely pub/restaurant about a mile walk at the top of the road by the junction; served fabulous food and had a warm and cosy atmosphere. Other amenities were just a short drive away and fuel for the fire can be picked up at most petrol stations en route to anywhere.
We were not troubled by either the neighbouring guests nor the owners; even the feral cat kept its distance!
Have no doubt we will return at some point and have recommended already to family and friends. Excellent all round.

      nice property

Left on 06/22/2012 for a stay in May 2012

lovely property with great views from every angle. From a dogs owners points of view the garden is not attached to the house so we couldn't just let the dogs out as the surrounding fields had sheep and lambs in them and our dogs could easily jump the fences. The property was more like a flat in that another properties bedroom was above ours and the noise created depended upon the other guests. Saying that the property it's self was very nice and lovely walks a short drive away.

      Great first time Cottage Rental

Left on 06/13/2012 for a stay in April 2012

Booking the Cottage on line was very easy with the minimum of fuss.
The Cottage was described as 5 Star and lived up to this Grading. It was immaculate throughout with everything including the kitchen sink provided.

It is located in Troutbeck above Ulswater about half a mile from a Caravan Park which has a small shop (a very small shop) and the nearest Pub is The Troutbeck Inn about 1 mile away. Good quality food can be found there.

There are several Pubs around the area within a 2to 3 mile Radius that serve good food and are Dog friendly.

The scenery around the cottage is lovely and the atmosphere tranquil with very little ambient noise.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this Cottage to our friends.

Facilities that were beyond our expectations

Left on 04/16/2012 for a stay in March 2012

We experienced a very comfortable stay at Glen Cottage. The cottage met all our needs and we would highly recommend staying there. In particular the underfloor heating and shower were luxurious. We found the location very convenient for walking the peaks, but it was also a quick drive into both Penrith and Keswick.

peaceful, restful with enough to do if you want to do it.

Left on 01/07/2012 for a stay in December 2011

the cottage is well appointed and easy to find, very nice area of cumbria with all amenities close ish to hand.
the cottage was well equiped but as the cottage is self catering then a small welcome pack would not go amiss.
we had a few issues which we could not report as o2 has no coverage by the cottage.
the back door was opened to expel rubbish acrued and the living room window catch broke as the wind blew through.
so had to do some running repairs.
also unfortunatly for us the upstairs accomodation over the bedroom was occupied by a family with small child whom took to waking and crying through most of the night, we were supposed to stay for seven nights but after one reasonable nights sleep we vacated a day early, in much need of sleep. noise from both accomadfations is an issue.

Comfortable, well equipped cottage with excellent views

Left on 08/24/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Fantastic cottage, well equipped & fitted out. Dining room/sun lounge is fantastic, the views are great. Outdoor centre next door meant a bit of noise from quad bikes for short periods of time some days but this didn't detract from our excellent stay.
Owner really helpful when we arrived.

      Our puppy's first holiday!!!

Left on 08/22/2011 for a stay in July 2011

A fantastic time was had by all!!! Glen Cottage was very well appointed (kitchen fabulous) and beautifully clean. It's location was perfect with easy access for the rest of the Lakes and some great walks on the doorstep. We were slightly apprehensive as it was our first time away with our then 5 month old labrador puppy but the owners have made it very dog friendly, especially with the rope system in the garden where we could tie her out and feel that she was safe and secure. We could hear the family in the adjoining cottage when they were upstairs but it didn't cause any problem as such and should be expected in a conversion of a building of this age. We would definitely recommend Glen Cottage and will be returning ourselves in the future (if we can find a time that it isn't booked up!).
