      Disappointing on many levels

Left on 11/03/2011 for a stay in October 2011

If you want a charming cottage with lovely Lakeland views, this isnt it. If you want a hoiday camp like Centre Parks with great facilities, this isnt it either. Our property didnt look like the picture above (thats the property next door) - ours was a characterless white painted building with a view of the bins. There was no dedicated parking space - in fact my elderly parents often had to walk 150 metres over the puddled car park if we could find a space - less drudgerous that the climb up and down stairs every time they wanted to be out or use the loo in this "upside down " house. This feature wasnt clear to us (its right at the bottom of the text in the description and not on the confirmation email - we hadnt seen it and my 78 year old father really struggled all week. We asked to change as soon as we arrived but after initially saying no problem at reception they had to retract as they said the company who booked us, Cottage Holidays, only had access to that one property - something which turned out not to be true.
The pool was great, but we were turned away at one stage becuase it was too full. Crazy golf and games rooms good for the kids. No wifi at all in the cottages, only the reception where 21st century visitors huddled and pretty much no mobile reception anywhere. This place is probably good if you have a very young family and its wet as the cottage is very clean and cosy warm, even if a little institutional in its decor.
Also good for those who like to be at home when they are away.

Response from Cottage Holiday Group - 09/07/2012

      Cottage Holiday Group

      Manager

Thank you for your recent review on No 12 Kirkstone Cottage.

As the owners of No 12 Kirkstone cottage I would like to reply to the comments you made.

This property has never been marketed as a Centre Parcs type property, as the name suggests it is a holiday village, suitable for all ages.

The cottages are terraced and it is very difficult for one property to be so different from the next, the total block is a combination of stone and white rendering, giving the terrace a more pleasing effect.

You stated that his property had a view of the bins, there are three bins, all of which are enclosed in a wooden area. This property is located at the end and as such has more windows. From here you can see the woodland walk and many pretty views.

The lounge over looks fields and if you are lucky enough, may even have seen the deer, not to mention the red squirrels in the woods.

There are no designated parking spaces. This usually avoids arguments with other holiday makers regarding who has a right to park in what space. If you had contacted the site manager and discussed your situation regarding the age and mobility problems of your father I am sure he would have been able to arrange closer parking facilities.

The house is advertised as being upside down. The details are clearly stated on the website.

Wi-Fi is not advertised as being available in the cottages, it is available at reception. This is a very comfortable area which has sofa’s and chairs, if it is busy you have the option of using the upstairs lounge area.

Unfortunately due to the rural location of this property and the fact that it is situated inside the Lake District National Park we cannot erect modern day telephone masts. You will find this throughout the National Park.

It is an amazing part of the country to visit, with fantastic scenery, many outdoor pursuits and is enjoyed by thousands of visitors every year.

Please do not hesitate to contact Lakes Cottage Holidays if you require further details or you have any questions or queries regarding this property.
