      Terrific Place

Left on 04/04/2013 for a stay in March 2013

Booked this as a last minute getaway so got an extra £80 off the usual price. Our party consisted of 2 parents (wrong side of 40) and 4 grown kids between 18 and 26.From start to finish we had a fantastic weekend.
The check in was easy with helpful polite staff. The accommodation was superb very clean, very warm and everything in there you needed for a long weekend, the master bedroom has an ensuite which was a bonus with 6 adults there. The small bedroom is a small bunk bed not for adults, so we improvised and put the mattresses in a spare U shaped area in the lounge upstairs, if your not prepared to be a bit flexible this could have cast a shadow over the accommodation however we are not and did not spoil our weekend.
We all used the pool, sauna and steam room which along with the changing rooms were very clean. The Bar was a pleasant area and we enjoyed a few drinks in there, I cant comment on the food as we eat out elsewhere on an evening before returning. There is entertainment in the bar, but out of season this was not up to much, however other people in the bar seemed to be enjoying it so each to their own.My main gripe (and I hope the management read these reviews) is the awful music they played in the bar.I am not old fashioned but the music was horrible even our kids complained about it,I observed people leaving the bar due to the music. It appeared the music was the choice of the young bar staff(who were all very nice and professional)but when you have a room with paying guests in you adapt and play what you think they would like. The site is well located for Penrith and Keswick its easy to find and there are lots of walks and things to do close by.
I found the whole site clean and well maintained. I would definitely visit again and highly recommend this holiday village.

great cottage- shame about the hard sell!

Left on 12/30/2011 for a stay in December 2011

We had a very enjoyable stay overall, the cottage was very comfortable with all the amenities we required, set in a nice quiet location.
However t.v stopped working in one of the bedrooms after the first night, much to the kids disappointment. When we reported this to reception we were told as it was a private rental there was nothing that could be done.
Prior to the holiday I phoned lakes cottage holidays to find out exactly what was supplied by the cottage so as to avoid having to pack too much stuff, we've got 4 kids and 2 of them are under 2 years old, this creates a lot of luggage. I was told that there was no high chair supplied and I needed to bring my own towels and had to pay extra for travel cot.
Much to my annoyance there were 2 highchairs supplied, along with towels and a travel cot! So this meant unnecessary additional luggage.
However these things were minor irritations in comparison to our final day there when seasons holiday sent a member of their sales staff to stork us and do a hideous hard sell to try to get us to buy a membership/timesheet costing five thousand pounds! When we said we couldn't commit to this financially without at least going away to think about it, he was very rude, expecting us bizarrely to sign up to it there and then!. It almost spoiled our stay and made us feel we wouldn't want to go back there! Which was a shame considering we had enjoyed the rest of the holiday. I don't think seasons should be allowed to operate in this manner considering the holiday was booked with lakes cottage holidays and not seasons.

one eyed one horned flying purple people eater!

Left on 08/25/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Superb accommodation, staff at Restaurant very helpful, friendly and keen to cater to our every whim - they put the chandeliers on for us. Didn't need the children's entertainment (as our children are in fact teenagers), but it certainly entertained us.
We felt that the check-in arrangements were muddled; it would have helped to have had clear instructions for all able-bodied people to park in the main car park then walk throught to the Reception area, and perhaps staggered arrival times would ease the situation further. This was the only part of our holiday when we were aware of the large number of people also using the holiday village, and led to concerns that we would suffer a crowded week, when in fact this was not the case.
