Pura Uluwatu (Uluwatu Temple)

Looming high above the Indian Ocean on majestic cliffs, the well-maintained temple at Uluwatu is a spectacular sight and allows a stunning sunset view. Belonging to the Sadkahyangan group of temples, Pura Uluwatu is one of the holiest places in all of Bali. According to legend, the temple was once a ship which was turned to stone, and it pays homage to the sea goddess Dewi Laut.

Beaches, Surfing & Swimming

(The word for beach in Indonesian is ‘Pantai’)

- Pantai Uluwatu

Pantai Uluwatu is the close to villa JohnPaul, this exotic beach is set in a sort of cave with cliffs looming above. Uluwatu is famous for its waves that can peel perfectly for hundreds of meters over reef, and are reserved for expert surfers only. Swimming here, however, is inadvisable. There are warungs (local cafés) for basic drinks and local snacks.

- Padang Padang

Towards, the north, just down the road from Uluwatu is Padang-Padang, which is another enchanting beach nestled into a pocket of lava-rocks, with an entrance to the beach though a cave crevice. This small cove offers famous world-class waves that attract surfers from all over the world. The water is also safe for swimming and snorkeling. The beach is small but the setting is enchanting and memorable, and, like Uluwatu, has warungs for drinks and snacks.

The Impossibles

Further north down the peninsula from Padang Padang, this long stretch of white-sand beach is free of warungs and people, and still maintains its original natural make-up of flora along the towering cliffs. The Impossibles are a set of waves off shore, so named because most of the time they break neither right nor left but all at the same time.

Unfortunately, at high tide the beach is all but disappear under the waves, and for this reason Impossibles is not an ideal place for relaxing in the sand, although it is a great setting for a sea-side walk at low tide. Swimming is not advised here, and the waves are for experienced surfers only, as they break over a reef.

- Pantai Bingin

Within paddling reach of Impossibles is Pantai Bingin, but this beach totes an extremely different atmosphere. It is still very natural and quiet, with few people, although there are quite a number of bungalows and a few warungs in the vicinity. This white-sand beach is pockmarked with rock and reef, forming pools in low tide, while at high tide the beach is almost completely consumed by the sea. Experienced surfers love to come here as the waves are near perfect and often form pristine tubes.

- Pantai Dreamland

A few hundred meters up from Bingin is Pantai Dreamland, which overlooks every other Bukit beach all the way to Uluwatu. Because of its beauty, with white sand and cliff outcroppings, it has become the chic beach of the day. It is a great beach for swimming and surfing, as it offers a sand-bottom break, but often has a strong current.

- Pantai Balangan

Just around the corner from Dreamland, this white-sand beach is absolutely idyllic, fringed by cliffs and clear water. Relatively quiet, with a mix of locals and tourists, there are only a few warungs near the tree line. The water here is fabulous for surfing and is safe for swimming, as the waves break over reef one hundred and fifty to three hundred meters from the shore.

  This serene villa was as pictured and is very well kept. Made the driver is a gem and he really sets this villa apart from other accommodations. He drove us up to Ubud a couple of days and stopped at quite a few places along the way. We certainly appreciated his patience and knowledge of the island and tried to be mindful of how much we were troubling him.
  
  There were a couple of things that were a little surprising. First, there was no Internet, and it didn't even occur to me during our search for a villa that such a nice place could not have Internet. I understand that many people go on vacation to escape their normal lives, but some people do not so I just wanted to point this out. The upstairs bathrooms are laid out awkwardly and results in a very wet bathroom when you shower.
  
  It is not really walkable to anywhere so you really have to rely on Made. No problem as he is very patient and will take you almost anywhere. It does take quite awhile to get to most places off of the Bukit peninsula.
  
  Overall, we had a private and relaxing vacation! I'm not sure if I would stay down in Bukit again as it just took a long time to get anywhere and the roads were very congested. I do think that this is an excellent option for many families and would highly recommend this if you are looking for something quiet.

  The villa itself is amazing. Definitley 5 star. You won't be disappointed. It's secure and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The driver, Made, is an absolute gem. He alone adds so much value to the experience. Stay here, not at a resort, the experience will be so much richer. This is a no-brainer. We highly recommend it. Taxi to Kuta is less than $10 us. 10 min. walk to a stunning beach.

  The Villa is modern and spacious with everything needed for a self contained holiday. The pool, gardens and outdoor areas are delightful. It is in a tranquil setting, free from the hustle of Kuta but close enough to make freqent trips for shopping, dining and the night life. There are also good eating places closer to the villa and self catering is also an option. Having the driver there makes life easy and he's a mine of information and a great tour guide. We'd recommend this to anyone looking for a care free real holiday that would suit all ages.

  Wonderful, private, well appointed, spacious villa in an area away from the main tourist precinct yet still close to excellent restaurants and everything great Bali has to offer.
  Everthing ran smoothly from start to finish. Made' the driver was very helpful, more like a personal tour guide with an intimate knowledge of everything Bali.
  Great having your own kitchen and being able to do your own thing at breakfast. Only minor complaint, which did not detract from the experience was the kitchen did not have a microwave.
  Stayed in hotels in the past great to have so much space to yourself.
  Highly recommended.

  In april 2012 we stayed at Karang villa for 10 nights. It was absolutely perfect! Of course we had seen the pictures on the internetbefore booking but when you are actually there, behind the big doorsyour completely wowed!
  
  The villa is so spacious, with three large bedrooms all with beautiful ensuites. The beds were perfect! Very big, with great pillows. Our bathroom was beautiful with a big marble tub and an amazing outdoor shower, which is an experience itself! Everything was very clean, thev illa was serviced daily and the staff were very friendly.
  
  Our Driver Made was brilliant so friendly and helpful especially with restaurants to try.
  
  The views from upstairs were amazing and without going on and on this was a perfect place for our family to just sit back and relax. The area of which the villa is located was perfect we felt safe with the security and high stonewalls.
  
  I could not fault this property in any way and would recommend it to anyone. In fact we are hoping to return shortly.
