      Excellent villa

Left on 01/29/2013 for a stay in January 2013

We stayed here for 4 nights, with another family - including 4 young children, aged 2-5 years. The villa was clean and safe, with a good outside area for the kids to play in, and a lovely terrace upstairs for the adults to relax. Lovely view across to the sea, with a Buddhist temple next door. 5 minutes walk down to the beach (probably 10 with the kids!) and Unawatuna village, or an easy tuk tuk ride up the hill. Great food available on site. We were made to feel very welcome. Would highly recommend.

      MangoHouse Villa is a dream

Left on 12/17/2012 for a stay in December 2012

We spent our honeymoon in this charming, spacious and really well positioned villa. It feels as if you are living in the jungle but with the modern amenities that you are used to at home. Unless you have maids at home then Bandu and Varuna do a very good job of looking after yourself and the villa.
If you are lucky enough to obtain a booking then you are in for a very pleasant surprise indeed. The view is nothing less than spectacular and you are only 5 mins walk from the beach. You can eat out, pick up food or buy from the grocery store. The beach is beautiful and sea blissfully warm. The fact that you are not on the beach is a big advantage as the propensity for frequent, loud, youthful parties can disturb a good night's sleep and sleeping on top of them is not fun.
Shaun and Becky's local knowledge is invaluable and very convenient, you will meet numerous characters from their cannon. Nearby Galle is an interesting place to visit and I would highly recommend a trip to Marrissa to go whale watching with 'Raja and the whale'. You get to see the big blue one and Raja's knowledge and care mean that you learn a lot about whale behavior.

      Excellent town and Villa

Left on 11/30/2012 for a stay in November 2012

Excellent place to visit and i'm talking about the villa and the resort.
We stayed an extra week, three in all.
. The luxurious villa is set away from the touristy buzz of Unawatuna beach . We loved waking up in the morning and walking out onto the spacious veranda surrounded by trees with a gorgeous view of the sea and temple grounds. We spent a lot of time spotting monkeys and other wildlife from the veranda by our room. The short walk to town was past a temple and beautiful temple grounds , down the steps, across the road and straight onto the wonderful beach.

Shaun and becky were wonderful host and were very knowledgeable about the area and were very very helpful and friendly. The maid, Bandu, was fun and she washed our items when requested. She couldn't have been more attentive and willing to help, catering for our every need.
The location was great and the views from our balcony were also. At night a short tuk tuk ride was needed if you were to lazy (like I was) to climb the steps.. just a few rupees.
Rooms were spacious, clean and tidy. Beds were very comfy and I will return.. I recommend the villa and resort to anyone, anytime..

      Great!

lovely stay at the Mangohouse Villa.

Left on 02/03/2012 for a stay in January 2012

We stayed a week in Jan. 2012 in the Mangohouse Villa with another family. We had four children (from 3 to 8) with us. The house was great. There was plenty of room for everyone. The verandah upstairs was lovely. Bandu, the maid, made our stay comfortable, nice and easy. The children stil miss her and the delicious breakfasts and snacks. We got all the information we needed from the Villa or staff. Thank you, Shaun and Becky, Bandu and Karuna! You made our stay in Unawatuna a dream come true.

Beautiful Beach, lovely people and perfect secluded villa.

Left on 01/29/2012 for a stay in September 2011

We loved our stay here so much we extended it from 4 nights to 5. The luxurious villa is set away from the touristy buzz of Unawatuna beach giving it a tranquil and secluded feeling, yet with the restaurants and bars only a short walk away. We loved waking up in the morning and walking out onto the spacious veranda surrounded by palm trees with a gorgeous view of the sea. We spent a lot of time spotting monkeys who were very funny and great to watch. The short walk to town was through a temple where we had to take our shoes off and cover up in respect, giving us a taste of the real Sri Lanka.

The maid, Bandu, was lovely and we got to know her well over the few days we were there, I still have the bracelet she made for me! She couldn't have been more attentive and willing to help, catering for our every need. The manager, Caruna, was often there too and able to give us plenty of good tourist info. We had excellent food and yummy breakfasts which were healthy and authentic.

Becky and Shaun's contact Gg's Tours gave us an excellent service, planning our ongoing trip. The night watch man was ready to light the path for us by shining a spot light when we were walking back from town late at night.

We felt like we were in the lap of luxury staying at the villa and sometimes found it difficult to drag ourselves away to visit the beach. We have recommended it to friends and family and hope to return there one day.

      Lovely Place

Left on 08/12/2010 for a stay in July 2010

I spent 3 weeks in Mango House with 3 children, my husband and one other adult. The house and views are beautiful and Karuna, the manager and cook, was lovely and very helpful and is a great cook. The owner Shaun also provided us with plenty of helpful information and contacts. The wall around the garden and the security guard made us feel very safe and secure at night. The kids loved the abundant wildlife - they saw lizards, toads, squirrels, monkeys, and lots of other insect life daily that really fascinated them. Perhaps it was the season but I could have done with a little less fly and mosquito life. Unfortunately the good quality mosquito netting on the beds and insect repellent didn't seem to deter the mosquitoes. Overall our stay was very nice and we all loved walking to the beach everyday from the house.

      Wonderful holiday in Mango House

Left on 08/02/2010 for a stay in February 2010

We had the most wonderful 2 wk holiday in Mango House - our first visit to Sri Lanka. The house is fabulous and in a great location above the village and beach. The house is really large, so plenty of room for families or friends holidaying together. We especially loved the large covered terraces outside each of the 4 bedrooms from where there are lovely views to the sea. The kitchen is well equipped, but if you don't want to cook then Karuna, the manager, will cook wonderful dishes for you. We went on a full day cooking course with Karuna which was brilliant. The house is 10/15 mins fairly steep walk through the temple grounds down to the beautiful beach and village. If you don't fancy the walk, you can get a tuk-tuk at a reasonable price. We found Unawatuna to be a beautiful unspoilt resort, the local people are very friendly and welcoming, there are plenty of places to eat and drink, get a massage, and the ocean is invitingly warm. We rented a tuk-tuk for a day (with a driver!) and visited one of the tea plantations nearby and also saw the stilt fishermen and went market shopping in Galle, just up the coast. A great experience. We had a fabulous holiday. We loved Unawatuna and we loved Mango House and would certainly go back again.

One of My Best Holidays ever at Mango House Villa

Left on 07/28/2010 for a stay in March 2010

Our holiday in Unawatuna was a joy from start to finish. The owners of Mango House promptly answered all of my e-mails before the trip which allowed us to plan our visit. The staff at the villa were very helpful and friendly and the night guard made my wife feel secure and happy.
The villa itself made a great home from home, was comforatbly furnished with a good kitchen, though we never needed to use it thanks to the delicious sea food restaurants and bars dotted along the beach.
The villa is a few steps away from the beach which was ideal for relaxation. One of the things I liked best about this place is that we were able to relax on a beautiful secluded beach when we wanted peace, could swim, snorkel, go for a trip on a katamarran, or even try leaning how to scuba dive when we wanted to be active or take a trip to the nearby town when we missed city hustle and bussel.
I throughly recommend Mango House Villa and Unawatuna to anyone who needs a great holiday.
